+Troy Musson Yeah, that's just the way Ableton's routing works when you want a 3rd party plugin to receive a signal from a track other than the one it has been placed on
+Troy Musson You don't have to, just set the input from the original kick track in the SC track and set it to "in" in the IO section. However, with a copy of the kick as audio you can process it for signal reasons with envelopes and what not to influence the SC effect in the device taking the SC input. This might give you more detailed control over how the SC is used beyond how you could affect this in the device taking the SC input.
Really useful tutorial. Couple of questions here. 1) Why don't you feed the original kick track to sidechain the EQ directly? 2) Is using a dynamic EQ better or a dynamic compressor better on the bass? Thanks a lot.
1) I don''t remember, I haven't used Ableton in years. 2) What is better depends on what you a trying to do, what material you are working with and what sounds the best to your ears
+Timothy Henderson Thank you. I use Action! to record the screen, it is decent. I use Power Director to edit but is a terrible piece of software, crashes every few minutes, that I wouldn't recommend anybody wastes their money on!
Hey! First I'd like to thank you for your way of showing me some really cool stuff and helping me to get a better struktur and workflow. It is great fun! I have a big problem, though. If I want to sidechain the way you did I can not select anything in the second drop down menu. If I for example Have a kick track and want to send it into the sidechain input of a bass track - be it within the vst or an outside compressor such as the waves c6 - the second menu stays grey and I can not chose anything. Do you have any ideas on that? Do I have to change something in the preferences? I have no clue....
This is a great tutorial. But if you do the sidechaining like this, don't you now need a sidechain track for everything you want to sidechain. That could mean ten or more seperate sidechain tracks in project instead of just one sidechain track that can be used by all tracks like most people use. Or am I missing something. Thank you.
joeyxl3456 I'm assuming you are talking about sidechain compression!? This is a technique that works on a similar basis but with a different outcome. I am just using the EQ to cut the bass at the frequency where the kick hits. The other elements in your track should'nt be interfering with your kick too much frequency wise so it would be rarely, if ever, you would need to set this up on anything other than the bass
Best sidechaining kick and bass issue tutorial i've ever seen!!! Big one mate...thanks and keep it up with the good work!!!
Best kick/bass tutorial I've come across, great stuff man, thx for sharing this!
Interesting. Finally obtained Melda plugins now after viewing your video. Will use your tutorial as a guide. Thanks.
Wow thank you ! Melda plugins are soooo cool ! Sub is really coming out a lot in the mix !
You have really nice tutorials..Keep it up.
Great video, one question is there any need to duplicate the kick track!, why not just send a sidechain from the original kick?

you can even use the "harmonics" section of mautodynamic for a more powerful effect !

Great video! What are you using for screencasting software?

Sönke Padeken Sorry mate, the Waves plugins are well outside of my price range mate
Cee Lopez Tutorialism
Yeah but even with other plugins I can never directly adress one effect in a chain.
Sönke Padeken I'm not sure mate. If I'm using sidechaining with third party plugins I just set it up the way I did in the video

Ok, your just making a dynamic cut at the kick frequency. Cool thanks bro.
