I'm pretty sure he said "Coffee Crisp". It's a really popular Canadian chocolate bar that apparently doesn't exist anywhere else. Super tasty but yeah its crumbly, way more than Toffee Crisp
@@turalyawn no. It was toffee crisp. I don't remember if he talked about coffee crisps but it was definetly Toffee Crisp because there was a picture of a giant Toffee Crisp bar on the screen during our assembly and he had a multipack to give to those who guessed Toffee Crisp.
35.05 this is my favourite bit of the interview! I love the fact she declined the calls and he arranged with NASA for her to receive the call as “SPACE”. Amazing story
Chris describing what it’s like to sleep in space spoke to my insomniac soul. I’ve never wanted to go to space more than imagining what it would be like to sleep without feeling sore in the morning.
it's really not that uncommon. the soviets regularly flew bombers close to american airspace for reconnaissance or practice runs. So this sort of stuff happened all the time during the cold war.
I mean, he was just doing his job. A hugely impressive job for sure, but it's not like he stopped the Russians bombing the US or something, which is probably how it sounds to some. For context: "Hadfield finds the bombers humming in the darkness, miles above the Atlantic, floods them with light and then escorts them on a course out of Canadian airspace. Hadfield would go on to repeat this multiple times in his career. And that’s because it’s a game-military powers like Russia and the U.S. routinely buzz each other’s boundaries to test reaction times and thus prompt similar responses. It’s occurred dozens of times in the last decade in Canada’s Arctic. In 2009, CF-18s intercepted Russian bombers 190 kilometres northeast of Tuktoyaktuk, NWT."
"You can write me a letter, I like recieving them. And if you send me one with a nice picture in it I'll put it up on my fridge" 🥺 I never really had a grandpa but I think Canada is letting me borrow theirs.
the fact that he kept his perk and hilarity about him after however long it took him to actually answer thru all of these (& probably even more questions that didn’t make the video) just shows how awesome he is. Loved it!

Why is no one talking about, ‘what is chris Hadfield most famous for’: “....I intercepted Soviet bombers off the coast of North America during the height of the Cold War...” and then just casually moves on ?!???!!
No biggie right...? I mean he got over the red scare and had a couple of Russian room mates, in freaking space.
@@insaincaldo You're both absolutely right. AND Although Chris touched on this mentioning getting over the red-scare I want to really hype this up.....The fact that he can so easily give up war-bred xenophobia and truly see the planet as what it is, borderless, is a beautiful thing that we absolutely should talk about! If he can do it, we ALL can.
In the time of global climate change and a worldwide pandemic we have got to start realizing we're all floating on this beautiful little blue ball together and we really need to act like it. ♥

I remember when Chris came to our school in the UK to talk to us about his experiences as an astronaut and in a 1 hour session, he spent 15 talking about how you shouldn't bring Toffee Crisp into space because they are the only 'candy bar' that explodes in space.
BigRandomUn why tho? why does it explode?

The way he talks about falling asleep in space is my favorite part... so wholesome...,almost like it was spiritual
Chris describing what it’s like to sleep in space spoke to my insomniac soul. I’ve never wanted to go to space more than imagining what it would be like to sleep without feeling sore in the morning.
"I intercepted Soviet bombers off the coast of north America during the height of the Cold War" was not something I expected him to say
I laughed at first, thinking it was a joke, then realised he was serious and was so impressed
wonder how he communicated that without Nicolai next to him hearing.
Going right into the danger zone. Take a ride into the danger zone!
@@cachin366 he was born in 1959…
it's really not that uncommon. the soviets regularly flew bombers close to american airspace for reconnaissance or practice runs. So this sort of stuff happened all the time during the cold war.
8:07 "l intercepted Soviet bombers off the coast of North America" He said that like that isn't a big deal. Love this guy.
He acted like “oh I was just doing my job” in a humble, not bragging way
I mean, he was just doing his job.
22:32 love how he says "there's a guitar up there", like it's totally normal to have a guitar up in the space station as in some attic

Chris is a great communicator and storyteller. Loved the story about his wife and "space is calling" bit.
When he said "space is calling" that made me smile
the fact that he kept his perk and hilarity about him after however long it took him to actually answer thru all of these (& probably even more questions that didn’t make the video) just shows how awesome he is. Loved it!
Being in space is so different than being on Earth. Did anyone else notice how many similes and metaphors he uses to explain what it was like? It really helps us to understand the experiences.
