The Terminator Model T-800 is capable of motion tracking, search modes, facial identification and recognition and has extensive vision enhancement capabilities including long range "zoom" (the T-800 can snap-magnify an image by around x15), motion analysis and night vision. While Terminator model T-3000 displays superior physical strength to a T-800, being strong enough to gradually overpower an attempted front choke hold from a T-800, as well as lift a T-800 one-handed and throw it a significant distance with minimal momentum or leverage. It is capable of shape shifting at much more rapid speed than the mimetic poly alloy terminators, though it is still limited by complexity or mass, its transformation abilities are such that it can dissolve itself into a cloud while falling head-first through the air, reorient itself to land on its feet.

The second T-800 was sent back by John Connor to protect his younger self from the T-1000 (shape-shifting cyborg) sent back by Skynet to kill him. So, neither T-800 (played by Arnold) from the first two films had a mission to terminate John Connor directly, although one could make the argument that terminating Sarah Connor before John could be conceived would be achieving a similar effect.
This is where Terminator went off the rails. To reboot John Connor as a Terminator was crass.

After all these years, self learning chip of the T850 was the biggest achievement of the skynet, no advanced weapon is stronger that near human improvisation skills of the T800 and T850
the t800 and t850 were reliable the simplistic and overengineered design was not a drawback but actually an advantage because as engineers know less parts means less problems means the machine can take a beating and keep on ticking add the fact that its self learning chip learns like a human does it makes for a machine that might not be built for efficient and swift versatile missions but designed to enact the same task in different ways repeatedly until it eventually fails

my number one gripe with action movies is the zero recoil guns. the walking dead is mostly a fantastic show but people popping off head shots while running with no recoil and shooting 20 times from a revolver makes my eyes roll out of my head

TX has a bunch of different built-in weapons and also consists of metal skeleton covered with liquid metal, and as we know when damaged T800 falled into liquid metal he had only 1 arm and no legs... Last proper T-movie was T4: Salvation. Yes, yes, I know Arnie wasn't in it (he was). That one managed to stay true to the idea and tell a great story about the darker future where everything happened.
Besides, Bale made a great John Connor and Yelchin was good as Kyle Reese. The terminator choppers, hunters and the A-10s were all spot on!
Anytime there's an A-10 and a movie it's a win.

I think Terminator Salvation was the last one for me at least, I liked that you got to see the bits and pieces of the future that you didn't in early movies. Plus it was cool to see different forms of Terminators

From trying to kill Connor's mom to Connor becoming the villain & a cyborg himself. The entire franchise has been 💩 on beyond cleaning the stench out.
I honestly believe if they were done properly with good stories and production, the concept was actually very good. Skynet uses a final trump card and turns the "savior" into the ultimate terminator. It's grim for the legacy of sarah conner, but it could have worked. The issue is that they kept dicking around with the timeline stuff and told incoherant stories.
