- We welcome our Dear friend Duane onboard and venture out beyond Belize's barrier reef and visit some of their outer atolls.
On our first night we stay at Turneffe atoll where we are attacked by mosquitos and seek refuge in the incredibly clear water of Lighthouse Reef. At the lower southeast corner of the reef there is Halfmoon Cay an idyllic tropical island that is home to a bird sanctuary full of frigate and redfooted booby birds. Paradise again, we are finally back in our environment.

My responce to mossies is to point a big fan at me - they cant land on you in a breeze i found. Good for sleeping too...
If you get the chance, get a 30 magenta or even a 20 magenta lens filter to eliminate a lot of that bluish tint in underwater. Give it a try and I think you will like the results. Glad to see yáll sailing once again.

Peter, how did you get the clear tubing on the Dyneema shrouds, especially at the thimbles?
Sliced them and then re wrapped and cable tied. SPlit the bottom into 2 parts to follow each of the thimble sides

I've been watching several sailing channels lately and they all seem to include quite a bit of underwater excursions which is a bonus.
However, I've noticed that almost no one knows how to swim correctly with fins. Most every freediver I've seen bicycles their legs which is a huge waste of energy.
Keep your legs completely straight and scissor your legs in wide strokes. You will use muscles you're not used to but you will actually swim faster with less effort.

True but her blades are too stiff. We have no choice with fins because her feet are just so small. SInce they are too stiff she reduces the stress on the ankle by pedalling
If you watch most people who are experienced at finning they generally do a bit of bicycling, I agree that the straight leg thing is how people are taught and too much bicycling is inefficient but the most efficient finning seems to be somewhere in between (not to mention the frog kick).l
