We're very sorry to hear that Harry has died aged 100 years and 11 months. Our thoughts are with his family at this time. It was a privilege to have Harry share his experience as a Driver with us. 🚂 *Harry Wilson, 06 May 1923 - 07 April 2024*
Brought a tear to my eye. I hope Vandana was there at York Crematorium today, 3rd May, to wish him farewell on his final journey. Vandana, I wish you the very best 👌
this is why lner is the very best in the game. this was a legendary chat. im sure this will be looked at in another 50 years to look back. amazing historical content.
What a lovely gentleman, hope he can stick around for many more years- given he can put up with life’s natural struggles. Great knowledge and experience and good story teller lol God bless him and his family. #teamtrainz

It would have been very difficult for Harry to ease a 12 coach steam hauled express out of Kings Cross, greasy rails, then down into the drain of Gasworks Tunnel, and next the strenuous climb up Holloway Bank. Only another 285 miles to go non stop with an A4 on The Elizabethan. Although the footplate staff changed just North of York. Well done Harry.
What a wonderful interview! I always wanted to be a train driver, but back in the day when i was at school and uni, women train drivers were unheard of - and now I'm too old 😩
Wonder if in his 49 years on the job if he would've met my Grandad as he worked for BR as a Guard from the late 70s to early 80s on the ECML York-Glasgow
Magic. Harry, thanks for the memories. Vandana, keep it up as you have met one of the best. I'm surprised he didn't mention his favourite Deltic though, 55013.

RIP Harry
I was amazed to learn he had drove my favourite steam loco the A4 Class.
What a legend. The first issue of Rail, then known as Rail Enthusiast, features a cab ride in a Deltic from York to Kings Cross with Harry driving.
I saw on Twitter today that Harry has sadly past away. May he rest in peace ❤
Rest in Peace Harry ❤ 🕊

@@squaresphere2864 yes, really. no need to be so condescending.
Harry, you were awesome. Rest in peace ❤
Harry is a legend I remember reading his stories in the railway press and the stories of his beloved deltic locomotives a true legend 😊
That was superb. God Bless Harry. All the best for the future too Vandana.
This is a fantastic interview - two very different (but I'm sure both excellent) drivers!

Harry is a legend.
I second that
Absolutely he is. She was clueless to most things he told her. She had a rudimentary grasp of what this man did and his achievements.
@@squaresphere2864 rubbish. no she didnt.

This man reminds me of my grandad so much
Harry really knows his stuff , a proper passionate man
There's another centurion train driver in York who still with us. He's called Reg Turner and started on the railways around the same time as Harry.

LNER loved the video R I P Harry . LNER could you not name 1 of your locos after him
Wow, good old Harry! Hope you get Harry back with LNER and show him the new trains and Vandana to the museum to see a deltic.
Good old Harry, tell the youngsters about The Deltic's, legendary locos.
while it’s good to look to the future it’s also best to look to the past as well. What a great conversation
