    At 20:20... In the Mennonite Culture, usually introductions include forming some connection between folks by tracing a family connection to an acquaintance. An example would be, if I have a cousin who is part of your Church. Actually, since I went to Bible School with Jon, It would be a little easier for us to begin a “normal” conversation with Jon and Annlyn.
    I appreciate this episode! It was an eye-opener for me.

      mike janecek , Correct! We do it without thinking. And we call it a “game”. I’m glad to have seen this video, to be awakened to what our actions FEEL LIKE to other cultures!

      Hahaha. My dad married a full blooded mennonite and hes not from that background at all. At all. Hahaha he calls this the "mennonite game". You meet someone and you try to find out how your related or who you know. He finds it highly annoying and totally useless

      @@AnabaptistPerspectives there's a lot more where that came from. It's just the tip of the iceberg. I think it's time we realized the church went astray many years ago. Let's forget what we think we know about church and go back to the Bible and start fresh. Mix in some Early church fathers writings, and start totally fresh. Holding onto this Anabaptist thing is kind of getting ridiculous.

      Yes. I found this page where I think you found the information about the 1940 policy: www.mennoniteusa.org/resource-portal/resource/african-american-mennonite-history-timeline/
      It's a timeline that charts many low and some high points on Mennonite history since the late 19th century.

    What Annlyn shared that she experienced was so disturbing I couldn't finish the video the first time around.
    It's a common falsehood that the ideal place between lived experiences of racism and a lived experience ignorant of racism is some kind of middle ground. How can there be?
    A passing thought is that Matthew 18, which Conrad Grebel held as the "rule of Christ" seems to indicate that the middle ground must be formed by repentance of the wrongdoer, not by acceptance of the victim. A victim whether of racism or abuse should never be asked to meet "halfway". Matthew 5:23-24 seems to indicate that God doesn't want our worship or gifts unless wrongdoing in our midst is resolved, so it's pretty important.
    In general, never ask people of colour to be understanding and tolerant of ignorance and racism.

    • @IgnatiusEmanuel

      We are all of one nation, the Kingdom of God. Our churches (all of God's Churches) are little embassies full of ambassadors living for Christ Jesus, our King here in this world. The evil one wants us to focus on color and discrimination, which is not for God's people. Racism and bigotry are not for our people. Yes, our people are made of every color, but everyone's identity comes from a Middle Eastern Jewish carpenter.
      Revelation 7:9
      9 After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands,
      Galatians 3:27-28
      27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's offspring, heirs according to promise.
      1 Peter 2:9
      But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;
      2 Corinthians 5:20
      Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.
      Our culture is predominantly colored by Christ and his teachings. If we look like the world, we are probably of the world. If we appear as strangers living in a foreign land as ambassadors of a different heavenly nation, we are probably a part of that Kingdom. If our identity is in the color of our skin and not Christ and his embassy (the Church), we need to reevaluate what kingdom we belong to. The Kingdom of God or the kingdoms of this world.
      The whole world lies in the power of the evil one. (1 John 5:19)
      Ephesians 6:12
      12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
      Shalom

      Everyone is ethnic.

    • @TornadoBub
      @TornadoBub 4 года назад +2

      There are no ethnicities in Christ. But the Anabaptist churches are predominantly of French/German descent and live in a distinct way, some even still speak German. All that falls into the standard definition of an ethnicity and is not wrong in itself. The problem is when Anabaptists try to force people to live the Christian life in their ethnic way and say it’s the only way.

    • @buffaloniceguy7823
      @buffaloniceguy7823 3 года назад

      @@IgnatiusEmanuel The problem is Christians of different ethnicities don't fellowship together or love one another. This is why Christians have supported slavery or Jim Crow in the past. This is why Christains of color, who have experienced hurt & racism from white Christians, have bitterness. We must accept and CELEBRATE the differences between us, because as you quoted from Revelation, citizens of God's Kingdom are from all races. Ignoring differences and past sins prevents us from learning to be better.

      @@IgnatiusEmanuel the pastor asked about Anabaptist folks not the ideal utopian vision for a perfect church as dictated by the scriptures. Yes the Kingdom of God is not ethnic specific but unfortunately Anabaptist groups are almost universally ethnic specific and very very corrupted in their thinking. What you spelled out in your answer to his question was what the church should look like however Anabaptist groups have absolutely failed at being inclusive and not racially biased and outright racist and hate filled. Just listen to this interview.
