@@DSan-kl2yc not my personal experience, but there's a channel called Nekojitablog, it's from a couple of a Spanish man and a Japanese lady who currently live in japan. Their content is mostly in spanish, but they often talk about how Spanish and Japanese cultures are very different. An opposite aspect in demeanor is that spanish people tend to speak loudly, be very expressive and frequently use cuss words in casual conversations, which may come as rude or boastful to japanese people who are extremely polite and modest in public. This modesty for spanish people may seem distant or too reserved. The food in another good example, spanish food comes in big portions and has lots of spices while japanese food portions are light and rather sober in flavor. I really recommend that channel, it gives a good insight on what japanese culture is like and how it is to marry a person from a very different background.

That was way back in 1917 when mixed couples were almost unheard-of. I'm so proud of their courage to not let bigotry stop them. Especially in that era.
Same! Except I'm American and my grandmother was 100% Japanese, she met my white grandfather during WW2 when he was stationed in Japan. They lived there for a few years before they moved back to America. My grandmother was scared and essentially erased our heiratage from us due to fear of being bullied and prejudice. They only moved back after America ended their Japanese internment camps (i.e., American version of concentration camps). I'm only 25% Japanese but i want to learn about my heritage that my grandmother was too scared to share. Edit: I'm not suee when they moved back but i do know it was sometime in the 50s as my dad was born in michigan in 59.
@@samanthajade3782 That's amazing You should definitely research more. Your Grandparents must have met sometime after the United States military established its first base in Okinawa in April 1945 as American forces fought for control of the main island in the closing months of World War II. The Japanese portion of my heritage is from my moms side and by WW2 my Japanese great grandfather and English great grandmother had a family. Unfortunately like the US Canada also detained its Japanese citizens. They were detained under the War Measures Act and were interned for the rest of the Second World War. Their homes and businesses were sold by the government to pay for their detention. Sadly that included that side of my family. In 1988, our Prime Minister at the Brian Mulroney apologized on behalf of the Canadian government for the wrongs it committed against Japanese Canadians. Your Grandparents were very fortunate to find love in such a time of confusion and horrible hate. Its very sad that ignorant hate like that still exists against many people today. Good luck on your heritage journey.

Im also in relationship with a Japanese man ❤ the key of success any international relationship is as this British woman said ,,it’s pretty interesting every single time we discover a new cultural difference 😍
Contrary to dozens of comments, her accent is actually Welsh 😝 It’s common to see people getting confused or mixed up when it comes to Britain, so though _most_ of this isn’t directly related to your comment, hopefully people reading my reply will have some of their common misconceptions cleared up 🥰 British English and a “British accent” are a bit different: British English is a *language* and is the most widely spoken language in the UK (there are actually multiple native languages spoken here like Scots Gaelic, Welsh etc.) but the way we actually _sound_ when we speak it, is an accent 🤓 Lots of people, especially Americans, say they love a “British accent” but there’s really no such thing 🤓 Britain is just the term for the land mass (aka. the physical island) but it has 3 of the 4 countries of the UK standing on it. Our official “country” name we use is “The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland”, UK for short, because we aren’t really a single country. We’re a political union made up of 4 separate countries; England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Contrary to popular belief, it’s NOT similar to the USA because the USA is one country made up of multiple states, it’s not a union of separate _countries_ haha. The term “British accent” would refer to ANY accent of Britain: remember, Britain is just a land mass not a country, so referring to the island means England, Scotland AND Wales. Most international people can hear a clear difference between those accents 🤓 I’m Scottish, so technically I have a “British accent”. However, since my accent is SO different to an English person’s, most foreigners wouldn’t typically describe my accent as “British”. When people say British accent, they actually mean to say _English_ accent, which is more accurate 🤓 To round it all off, studies show that in the UK, there’s a noticeable accent change every 25 miles 😝
I recently visited Japan for the first time and loved it. My favourite thing was how people keep to themselves. In the UK, so many people stare. I felt so relaxed in Japan!
The way this women speaks and carry’s herself just in this short clip shows how classy and calm she is. There’s more spice in international marriage but it ain’t easy😅😊
Just like a lot of people in the comments agree with her, I do too. Patience and open mind are very important, and that's why international relationships can seem like too much work for a lot of people but it's honestly the best kind of relatinship. I'm in the same boat like she is and I would never exhange it for anything. We randomly passed each other in the middle of the day on a busy street and could have easily missed a long happy life together had we not caught each other's eye, taken a second look and stopped to say hello.

As someone in the same boat I can say patience and open mindness is very important as is forgiveness. Because the cultures and languages are truly opposite you will be hurt by your partner sometimes and have to work through that together. Japanese and western couples aren't an easy thing to make work but you can do it if the person is worth it. ❤
Any examples you could offer about opposites, just out of curiosity?

I'm Canadian and I want to learn more about the Japanese side of my family. My Great grandfather was Japanese and married my Great grandmother who was English.
That was way back in 1917 when mixed couples were almost unheard-of.
I'm so proud of their courage to not let bigotry stop them. Especially in that era.
Learn about it, you won't regret it. Interesting history

You should definitely research more.
Unfortunately like the US
Canada also detained its Japanese citizens.

British English sounds so classy, clean and intelligent, if you know what I mean
Contrary to dozens of comments, her accent is actually Welsh 😝 It’s common to see people getting confused or mixed up when it comes to Britain, so though _most_ of this isn’t directly related to your comment, hopefully people reading my reply will have some of their common misconceptions cleared up 🥰
British English and a “British accent” are a bit different: British English is a *language* and is the most widely spoken language in the UK (there are actually multiple native languages spoken here like Scots Gaelic, Welsh etc.) but the way we actually _sound_ when we speak it, is an accent 🤓 Lots of people, especially Americans, say they love a “British accent” but there’s really no such thing 🤓 Britain is just the term for the land mass (aka. the physical island) but it has 3 of the 4 countries of the UK standing on it.
When people say British accent, they actually mean to say _English_ accent, which is more accurate 🤓
To round it all off, studies show that in the UK, there’s a noticeable accent change every 25 miles 😝
I recently visited Japan for the first time and loved it. My favourite thing was how people keep to themselves. In the UK, so many people stare. I felt so relaxed in Japan!
