I sold my Sheraton ii to buy a "proper" 335 in wine red, it just didnt have the magic, I bought back my original sheraton last Friday, it feels like having a body part returned to me, such relief and happiness!
A word of caution before getting a Sheraton. For 15 years I was happy with my Heritage 535. Then I got a 1962 re-issue Sheraton - Frequensator tailpiece and Gibson Mini Humbackers, just like the original Sheratons. Suffice it to say it is a great guitar. Playing the Heritage, I began to think I would rather play the Sheraton and eventually sold the Heritage. Two years ago I had some spare cash and bought what I thought was my dream guitar - a Custom Shop Gibson ES345 - Cherry Red like Freddy King's. Great guitar, but playing it I could hear the Sheraton telling me "I sound better than this thing. I play easier. Get rid!" So, I sold it for £500 more than I paid. Last year, inspired in part by this channel, I got an Eastman T386. Superb guitar, but the Sheraton is telling me I to leave it alone. So beware, the Sheraton is a jealous guitar, with powers, and will not bear any rivals.
If you don't mind be asking, do have any issues playing @77? I'm in my late sixties and fear I'll be forced to stop playing. I'm heartened to hear that you still play. No offence intended.
If everyone in the entire world owned and played a Epiphone Sheraton there would be world peace. Especially if we all played them at the same time. This is my favorite episode of all time because the Sheraton II is my favorite guitar of all time. I thought I knew everything about them but I learned even more on this episode. The Sheraton is a better guitar than the 335 in my opinion. Especially the earlier Korean made ones - although the Korean made does not coil split. I have 3 Sheratons - including a modified one with 3 humbucker pickups and 6 push pull pots so each pickup gets it’s own volume and tone - plus it has a chicken head veritone knob converted to a custom pickup selection dial switch that allows me to turn on/off any pickup and knock out of phase. The toggle switch was converted to a “blend” knob that allows me to scroll through all 3 pickups to find the sweet spot when all 3 pickups are on. It is the most versatile sounding guitar I’ve ever owned. The guitar has been refinished very light sonic blue (nitro paint and lacquer) and you can see the beautiful maple wood grain underneath - I had this done so I could see the 5 ply neck backside. I plan to get 2 more Sheratons to keep in alternate tunings. They handle open tunings like a Champion. Thank you for this episode and your AWESOME RUclips guitar channel. Helplessly addicted to it and loving it. I’m going to go eat a big Dagwood sammitch now and then play my Sheratons. And smile.
I don't have the basis for comparison, not having played the relevant Gibsons much, but the Epiphone Sheraton Pro II is my current guitar - I will say that for a week before the sale started I was keeping track of the one I liked the most of the four 'identical' ones in the shop in Canberra: I'd tested them all and this one stood out, for tone, and especially evenness across every string and fret. With a Carvin tube amp it's just so warm, and clean, and even.
i had one of these korean ones (i guess from 1990 around) and it was a very well made guitar that sounded very warm and rich. especially the neck pick up sound was great. overall i wasn t so much in that semi hollow body sound at that time so i sold it later to buy my first sg....:)
I have the same one and it is amazing. 2020 inspired by Gibson line..$550 bn and got the epi lite hard case for 150..played 15 guitars that day..all in 1000 dollar range..epi crushed them all
I also have an Epi 339. The pickups on it are Alnico Classic PRO not Probuckers, and in my view are nowhere near as good. Having had Epis with both I would take Probuckers every time.
@@QuantumGamingUploads No I have had both 335 and 339, sold the 335 because it was just to big. They both have probuckers in them and I couldn't tell the difference.
You are all in trouble with my Mrs! Because you’ve reminded me that I’ve wanted a 339 for years and now (thanks to you all talking about your Epiphone 339’s) I’ve found that Sweetwater has them in Cherry Red or Pelham Blue, my two favorite colors. I hope you’re all proud of what you’ve done….You’re all deserving of the title Guitarista!😊
This was my dream guitar and I was finally able to buy one last year just like the one you hace on the table. It does. EVERYTHING. Quack country to the hardest of hard rock and delicate jazz in between. Great to look at, great to play. Thanks for the review!
Had mine for nearly a year now. Great guitar for the price. Headstock is a bit of a cricket bat but, otherwise, top notch. Looks gorgeous too, I think. Thanks very much Colin. What a really great channel this is.
Another great review. Not a fan of that style guitar generally but now I am. You got some sweet tones out of it. Definitely going to check one of those out. Thanks for the hard work putting these videos together.
Great review! I think the coil split thing could be a real plus for a lot of people - never occurred to me that a 335 style guitar would go for that option . . . you learn something new every day, doncha!
I coil split mine. Makes great "new" sounds, but not quite single-coil strat sounds. I think the hollow parts make the single coils sound fatter than normal.
I have this very model and I LOVE it… very versatile and plays beautifully… mine is a bit hefty though. As an aside, I recently just bought the Epiphone Noel Gallagher Riviera and can’t rate it highly enough, although this Sheraton does it all. Great video as always 👌🏻
@@colhutchins The biggest difference is the pickups, then the tailpiece. Tough call, all of the Epi semi hollows are cool af. I had the same short list, I went with the Riviera in Royal Tan.
I have a vintage sunburst 90s Sheraton made in Korea and its one of my favorite guitars. I took the pickgaurd off, added some 57 humbuckers and through a blackface Super Reverb with flatwounds makes some sweet jazz tones. Don't forget Graham Day played one and I believe a black one as well! Cheers.
Bloody hell Colin, now you've got me gassing for a Sheraton.😂 I've had a couple over the years and had to let them go when times were tight. Brilliant guitars. Might have to start looking at them again.
My 98 Epiphone Sheraton blonde has served me well for dozens of pro studio sessions over the years great guitar. No issues whatsoever. Perfect workhorse for all genres. Beware of any tuning problems which arise from a sticking nut or neck flex.
Sweet guitar! I had the Epiphone 'Lucille' which was very similar. Liked it, but sent it away in a trade. You make me want to pick up a Sheraton! All the best!
I bought this model (ebony) about a year ago. I love the playability and versatility. Tried the 335 and the Swingster at the store and they were ok but something wasn't clicking. Got this in my hands and it was game over. Neck is super comfortable for me and the Grover tuners are quality I got it plek'd along with a post purchase setup and I'm in my happy place. I will replace the PuP switch - it's a little cheap and flakey. I haven't given much thought to changing out the pickups (yet). Thanks for the review - great channel btw😁.
Very nice! I’ve never played one, but back in the 1970s I had a late sixties Riviera that I bought because it was half the price of the 335s next to it in the shop. It was really good. I’m liking the Sheraton now.
I have a '77 Gibson 335 with the coil tap switch on the lower horn. It's a brilliant addition. It makes the guitar so incredibly versatile. You can make her sound like anything you want. l much prefer a toggle switch than push pull knobs to tap the pup's. It's easier to see what state the pup's are at. I'll never understand why Gibson only had the coil tap switch as an option for a couple of years. They're quite rare so have increased in value nicely but more importantly they sound great! Another great video mate! Cheers!
Colin ahhh at last you did it. The review I've been waiting for. I've had mine for 3 years now and it's my favourite instrument. I prefer the sound to my LP Standard which also plays like a dream. However, I just love the neck on my Sheraton, just love it. I did find at first that the weight was surprisingly heavy as I remember my 335,s I had in the past not being at all "weighty ". To add to this I've put a Stetsbar tremelo system and that's made the thing quite a bit heavier. It's well worth it though as along with the coil tapping this makes the Epiphone Sheraton Pro II the most versatile guitar in my arsenal. Everything, including you suggests that swapping the pickups may be a good idea. Got to say to anyone reading this and considering buying one, just don't bother, save your money and get a hard case instead as once you see this beautiful instrument, you'll want to keep it looking just the day you got it. The pickups are superb, well for me at least and I like the sounds I get more than my Gibson LP and that's a fact. I have the wine red version which unfortunately at the moment at least they are not offering but who knows that may change in the future. I have it stood up in my mancave come home studio and whenever I walk in that room the look of this guitar just stands out from my others and my heart lifts and my mood too. I use this guitar on many of my recordi, well most in fact as same as you, I found the coil tap useful for Strat type stuff, funk, Hendrix (yea like I can play like him....God) but you know what I mean, I hope. To sum this up,my opinions of this instrument are as follows: Beautiful in construction, visual, sound, playability. Apart from these criticisms, it's nigh on perfect for me. The only reason I don't gig with it is that my Strat and LP are lighter, have similar sounds and I really don't want to mark it up. I've been wanting to drop it down to you in Southend to review as that's where I hail from but just didn't want to be without it....ahhh! Loved your review as most of us who follow you love all your stuff. So pleased you have your mits on one again at last. Hang on to it buddy.
Amazing review as always. I recently picked up the same one and it's an amazing guitar and sounds incredible. I was a little skeptical about getting an Epiphone but this is an excellent quality instrument from top to bottom. For as good as it looks on screen it looks even better in person. I absolutely love mine.
Epiphone has really picked up their mid-range game! The sustain is unbelievable and with gain high there is no howl where you would expect it to have to back it down a tad. Those Pro- Buckers are excellent and with the coil split, you can get a rich twang like with a Tele a , sparky but round sound. I would love to have one, but the wife is already wanting to know why I have 5 guitars.😂😂😂😂😂😂
I have a Sheraton II (non pro unfortunately) and it really rocks with just a Cry Baby wah and overdrive. As you say, it's ultra versatile, and really needs to be heard when cranked up to the hilt.
I got one today, so hard to put down gotta admit. I originally got the 335 because I ve always wanted a cherry red 335 but the neck was too wide for my wimpy old man hands. I think the difference is like the 335 is 1.69 and the Sheraton is 1.68 I think lol. So the only upgrade that matters to me is the sixties neck and I'm sure I made the right decision because I really didn't wanna put it down once I started playing it
Couch picker here. I picked up my Sheraton II Pro in 2021. I went with the vintage burst. There's so much to dig with this guitar. The versatility, the Pro Buckers giving that PAF like sound, the feel and playability, the solid construction and build, and the quality hardware. For me, I've had it 2 years and still love playing it everyday.
Huge Epi 335 guy, the Sheraton II pro is a fine guitar. I'm a bit partial to the old custom alnico pros rather than the probuckers used today. I also find the bridge pups are usually the primary go to. Word of warning, if replacing the harness the holes for the push pull pots are smaller and will need reaming. The 335 platform is simply the most versatile body style out there.
I managed to get the pots through the f holes without widening them. You have to drop all of them and the switch into the body in order to move the volume pots around to get the right angle to get them out. The tone pots are relatively easy to get out.
I love your reviews, the way that you point out the things we want to hear, no flashy “I can play better than you” solos. Nice Ian Dury reference and for me, you summed it up perfectly, “ it’s got mojo”.
I own a Fender 2003 American Strat and a 68 Gibson SG, but my Sheraton is my favorite in terms of the way it feels in my hands, the tones I get out of it, that I use it more than the other two. It just does it all. Given the choice of just being able to have one guitar, this would be it.
Colin.....you did one for just me. Yep, i got one in 2017. Same everything as yours. The gold bling, to me, is just fantastic to my eye. Its gets played the most, in my pile. I usually mod something on any piece i buy, but not this one. It's great just the way it came. Thanks from way accross the pond. (Texas USA)
You made my night. I absolutely love my Sheraton II Pro. Mine looks exactly like the one you reviewed. I picked it up about a year ago as a demo sale from Sweetwater. You have this habit of reviewing guitars that I own. I have one of those "pink" Squier Telecasters too. Never saw it as pink until you mentioned it, and now that's all I see, pink. Had that guitar for 2 years never saw it as pink. Until you. LOL. You are fantastic Colin. You always make me laugh.
I have a 2008 Sheraton II in Natural that I bought off a guy who used to play guitar in Taking Back Sunday and it’s my favorite guitar. The stock pickups and electronics weren’t that great, so I swapped them out for a Seymour Saturday Night Special in the bridge (with a series/parallel switch) and a Phat Cat P90 in the neck, and I got better quality volume and tone pots, and it became a whole new guitar. Incredibly versatile. The neck feels incredible and its got such a cool vibe about it.
I bought a Epiphone Firebird last month when I opened it the nut was loose I contacted the shop they said I could fix it without voiding the warranty it’s a easy fix then the volume knob was loose like yours the shop contacted Epi to send me one. When I opened the package I found a Adam Jones artist series back plate. I just ordered a set of Gibson amber knobs I like those better. You should contact Epi for a knob maybe they will send you a set of pickups 😅love your vids Collin I do enjoy watching them no time skipping for me
Very comprehensive review. 👍 I have had my lefty Sheraton vintage burst for about 10 years now. Replaced the pickups with Parsons Street Humbuckers and changed the wiring to have independent volume and tone control for each pickup with the switch in the middle position. Also polished the back of the tortoise shell pickguard to give it a translucent look. Very cool. Haven't looked back since. 🙂
A year ago, I was looking at the Epiphone 335 at the Gibson Garage in Nashville. One of the sales staff steered me to the Sheraton II Pro, explaining it was a much better guitar for not much more money. I tried it and loved it. They only had display models and none for sale! It took me several weeks to find one, and it's definitely a keeper. Thanks for your great review of something I already own!
As an 80s shred / 70 rock guy and everything in between, I've owned or have owned literally every type of guitar, basically at some point . I maybe got a diamond in the rough. I recently got an older 99 epiphone dot a few years back that has easily become my favorite guitar . The resonance and acoustic loudness is amazing even for playing super fast gained out shred stuff or the heavy chuggy stuff , along with everything else of course. It makes you feel so connected to it while playing it. I own/owned strats, teles , les pauls, high end jacksons, high end ibanezes, charvels, wolfgangs, ect ect. Now I got the semi hollow bite big time! Ive been looking at the ibanez am93me , the new epiphone 355 in white or a used Eastman 386/486
The best thing about these Sheratons is that Epiphone's been making them for decades at this point. Guitar definitely has mojo, there were some changes throughout the years and it's always been affordable meaning you can take your pick from the used market for a relatively low price. Great guitar!
Best mate in the early 80's. Both got our first guitars. I had a "Quest" & he got one of these bad-boys! Slim yet hollow Epiphone. Starburst fade to brown. Mental illness eventually stole him away from all of us as we grew into High School but years later I was able to put that same guitar in my skilled hands and totally understood the raw power it possessed. Tossed blues into the corner, distorted it and rocked it out for a solid hour or more. It's raw power really cut through the distortion; it was crisp, distinct & admirable. Truly a great guitar to have in one's arsenal! Glad to you see got another as I'm sure you already know what I'm talking about! And as always, as I sit here with my morning coffee, you're time well spent, good show mate!
I have a 90s one from Korea, with the smaller headstock and larger bridge. I love it, but it's heavy. Keep up the good work, for all the working folks!
I've had my natural for over 20 years. Made in Korea in the late 80s. Wonderful build, upgraded the pickups several years ago and have had other high end guitars come and go, but the Epi is still here
I always loved that Headstock, I had an Epiphone Emperor Regent, that was a great guitar too! My mate had the Epiphone Zephyr Deluxe with the 3 P90's, that was a great guitar too with the same headstock!
Not sure why I torment myself and watch these videos. The Sheraton does not fit my playing style at all but I'm finding myself wanting one now. Thanks for the G.A.S. Colin!
It's a beast of a guitar and wow, can it scream. It's got range, from blues to metal. The feel and look of this guitar are my favorite. The pots do feel like they may need some love after time but its nothing that cant be fixed. Great review. Cheers!
I appreciated learning more about the Sheraton, thanks for reviewing! There's just something special about Epiphone semi-hollow and hollow guitars. Although a bit different than the Sheraton, I love my Casino and the sounds I can get from it.
nice to hear the volume and tone controls demoed , I find it so useful as Im old school and use them a lot , so many other guitar reviews seem to forget the controls ... Excellent review ... thanks 😊
335s are all over rock, blues and likely every other genre. They sound great, and and can do whatever you want them to do. Personally and aesthetically, I don't like guitars with mouse ears 🤫 I prefer my ES-235s. Gotta have the Florentines. The Edge gets a lot of flak for his delay, but without him, Bono is a solo act in a Dublin pub 😁 Great boogieing today, Colin!
Love that you called-out the "mojo" on this one. Hell, would be super cool to add a mojo-scale to the reviews! Oh, and speaking of cool, the Edge is definitely cool.
The edge is not cool, you were right there. As I bought my first Epiphone/Gibson guitar and love it. I am on the look out for the next one already, so am very interested in this.
Dear all I bought one Sheraton second hand from 1989 in a France paw shop for 200€. I put Gibson pickups and it’s a fabulous guitar and I agree regarding the quality line came from samick Korean factory and I compare with new version and others including Gibson and I will never let go this Sheraton. Thanks Collin for you review really great and always interesting.
The profile of the neck was one thing that really grabbed me when I first picked mine up to test. I love it and it is one of my all time favorite guitars.
I've owned a Sheraton exactly like this for about 2 years or so. I absolutely love it! Although mine is a little bit brighter than this one on the video. But man, those pickups sure are quite hot! I actually got it almost on accident. I was obsessed with the Epiphone Riviera Custom P93, I still really want one of those. But exactly at the time when I had the money to spend on a guitar, the Riviera was updated to the one they sell now, and the Customs were out of stock everywhere. Well, in my local guitar store of choice they told me that they were supposed to receive one soon, and basically that was the last one available. At this point, x-mas was very close, and I can't remember why I couldn't get to the store the day they called me that it had arrived. So I get into the store a few days later, and lo and behold, they hald just sold the Riviera earlier that day. I was heartbroken. But I was already there, it was very close to xmas, I had the money, and they had just received a big shipment from Epiphone. So half an hour later, I walked out of there with my Sheraton as a sort of consolation price. But I really love it! Actually, the Sheraton is such a versatile guitar that I can easily do anything on it. I even play metal on it! Looking back, the Riviera would have probably not been as useful as the Sherry has been. My only problem with it is that the pickup switch often gets dirty and the neck pickup cuts out entirely sometimes. It just needs a vigorous session of switching between pickups for a few seconds to bring it back to life. And that happens almost everytime that I stop playing it for more than a few days. Also, I changed the knobs to some LP Custom vintage style ones, and took off the fugly pickguard, and it looks so sexy now. Everytime I catch a glimpse of it I go "Aww yeah!!"
I acquired a Limited Edition, Custom Shop Epiphone 335 DOT from 2004 and the original owner had replaced the pickups with gold Gibson classic humbuckers, I would say this would stack up to this Sheraton, it definitely stacks up to a Gibson, it remains as my favorite guitar, oh yes it is also Ebony!
Haven't got a sheraton or 335 but I finally recieved my Noel Gallagher riviera and that is a proper kick arse guitar, I've always liked epiphone semi hollows over gibson semi hollows, they have that brit-coolness about them. Glad you brought up Noel as the sheraton if you can't get the riviera signature was also used a hell of a lot through Noel Gallaghers career so offers a cheaper alternative with all the history still with it.
The Guitaristas host; Colin is IMHO one of the best guitar reviewers on YT, though I have 3 others I look to as well in making a decision to test one myself. Colin is factual, breaks down each guitar that he reviews/demo's and has a fun and jovial / fun side to his assessment. Throughly look forward to all of his reviews. While I may not completely agree with each of his reviews, he gives me pause to think about whether my original opinion is valid or if I need to research the guitar I have on my radar before purchase.
I mentioned on the comparison video that I bought a 335 then tried a Sheraton II and wished I'd bought one of these instead. I didn't replace the 335 with a Sheraton because I didn't want to make the same mistake twice. Going by your price guide that's another regret as they were around £350 at the time. The curse of the guitar collector.... Sounds great, looks great and a thorough analysis.
Loved your review brother! I have my 2nd Sheraton 2 pro. Gave the 1st to a friend that fell in love with it. Was looking for a red wine colored when I came across another black one which I got for $300. I love that it is quite versatile. A close friend played it through a Mesa Boogie I picked up in a trade and being a shearer he fell in love with it. Hanging on to this one.
Hi Colin - nice episode again! I had a Sheraton II (not Pro - I HATE Coilsplitting!) in a dark sunburst for years AND I still own a 1986 Gibson ES 335 Dot. I loved playing both because in the end they were very different! As known the Sheraton is an Epiphone original and no copy of the Gibson version. The Pickups of the Sheraton were surprisingly good and I gave up the plan to swap them against Classic 57 very fast. So the Gibson has the wonderful Tim Shaw Humbuckers in it - and so both guitars are sounding very different! In the end I sold the Sheraton last year, because I am the "Les Paul"- guy and one ES-335 style is enough for me and so I keep the Gibson. BTW - there is a Epiphone ES 339 Pro with P90(!) in my collection - great affordable guitar and very rare I think - never noticed another again. Plays and sounds amazing! Keep on rocking! More than 40.000 subscribers now! GREAT! Greetings from Germany!
I had one of these, but it had a slightly twisted neck, so I got refunded on it. It was a great sounding guitar though, and I will probably buy another one at some point. Thanks for the review.
Great review!! I have that exact guitar. I put Seymour Duncan SH-2N Jazz in the neck and SH-4 JB in the bridge, and it KILLS now. More clarity and it ROCKS. That JB in the bridge...wow. It went from being a "nice" guitar to a beast. Still plays Secret Agent Man very respectably too. I also put a Duesenberg LesTrem and TonePros roller bridge on it. So that's very solid now as well. The pots - not sure they're the best CTS pots, and they use their own special brand of quick connect, so a pickup swap is what I believe you'd call "fiddly." But I love it. However I'm not going to play this video in front of the Sheraton, because she'll say "Why don't you play ME like that???" Great playing, sir. Thanks again!!
You're a dangerous man Colin! I'm not sure that I'm drooling over this guitar yet but damn it seems to do what I like my guitars to do & it seems to do them well. I'm brand spankin' new to the Hollow Body & Semi Hollow- in fact it was your review of the new Epi Casinos- mine's the Worn Ebony. & it looks like you may have done it again- the rich, warm feedback at what I can only assume is a low volume is magic. & as I've found out, one should love some feedback if you want to play one of these or one it's cousins. I'd love to hear this thing cranked- let this serve as a warning to any one of my local guitar shops! Great job as usual, Brother!
Hello, nice review like always, informative and entertaining. Thank you. I have a 2010 Sheraton 2 also in Ebony Black. I love it. The sound is nice and the look is great. Also the build quality is super. Would always recommend it👍
Looks and sounds great! I am still not 100% convinced on my standard Epi 335. its ok I got it cheap secondhand but prefer the feel of my Gretsch. This version though does look and sound damn good though, maybe will try one. Great vid as always mate.
Nice one Colin, only ever played a Sheraton once and i was really impressed with it, now you've got me gassing for one. A fantastic guitar for gigging i think...
Another fine review. Sheratons are generally a bit gaudier than I prefer, but that is still a good looking guitar. One thing I find interesting is the difference between the sound of that guitar and the tones I perceive coming from my 335 Pro. In this video the Sheraton sounds great with higher gain settings, better I think than my 335. The interesting part is that when I hear direct comparisons there doesn't seem to be that much to it. Maybe the difference I hear is partly because I'm playing through my Tube 15 with no pedals rather than your signal chain. Anyway, I still love my guitar and am happy you got one that you like. Thanks.
@@dimitris70 I was just getting back into guitar a few years ago and didn't want to spend much. I decided I wanted a semi hollow and the 335 was on sale for $400 new, and as I said I prefer the more normal looks of the 335 to the fancier Sheraton.
I get my Epiphone Sheraton II Pro Wednesday. Same as yours. What a beast of a guitar. So beautiful and has the perfect Bluesy tones I love. Thanks for the review and further exciting me! I can't wait till Wednesday!!! 😍
I was think of having this as my 'forever semi-hollow', so was excited to see this review, enjoyed it. Subsequently, I'm buying a Pro II VS with GFS Dream 180 Pickups installed, and a Les Trem. I have tappable Probuckers in my Epi LP, they are quite nice. Wondering what the GFS Dream 180s will work like.
First of all, thank you for covering the Sheraton II. I have had one for…. Oh, 15 years. It’s a 2001 from the Korean factory. I put some 57 Classic Pluses in both pickup positions and upgraded the pots and caps. Bone nut, switch and Jack replaced. It’s a fire-breathing monster, yet has a tender, soft side. As for the sustain section in your video… I played my Sheraton primarily when I had a 5 piece (keyboards and Sax) and playing Bluesy Rock n Roll. The sax player would tell me how jealous he was when I would find a note to hang on during a solo. I could literally stay there forever. I have a lot of guitars, but my Sheraton is my “what would you grab if your house was on fire” guitar.
I’ve played Sheraton II guitars for twenty years in a world touring rocknroll band. Sturdy, reliable, looks great on stage. The sound is rich and versatile. I put bigsbys on them and play a variety of sounds. They are superb working musicians instruments! I drain the wax out of the pick ups using a hair dryer much to my wifes dismay. It gives a more resonant sound. I love your channel and I have to tell you I have just got my first SG…
I finally got my hands on a good one after having to return the first one. This one came set up with no discernable flaws. I can't put it down and I can't stop staring at it. I love the way it smells too. I have a new Figured Gibson ES-335, an ES-355 in mint condition and a new Gibson Les Paul Modern. The triumvirate has been collecting dust since I got this baby. It sounds absolutely wonderful, it's perfectly balanced and it's playability is beyond mere words! It plays better and smoother than all my other real Gibsons. I love this guitar!🥰
Love this Col!! Can't wait for the 'John Lee Hooker" new Sheraton Frequensator models coming out soon! The natural wood colour one is mind-blowing in the 'Wood' (seen and heard it on a Indonesian guitar shop channel on RUclips) 🎩🌹🎶
Hi Colin! This week's episode was a little bittersweet for me. I used to own an Epiphone Sheraton II that I got in 1993. I no longer have it and I miss it very much. I traded it for my Telecaster. This Tele is a favorite of mine and I don't regret doing the deal, but even so I miss the Epi very much. It's like an old friend that I wish I could reconnect with. I played my first ever show with that guitar. It was sunburst and without the E on the pickguard and truss rod cover. No coil spitting either. This one was from the time that they were making them in Korea. I didn't comment when I saw the video on Friday because I didn't know what to write. Also, I had tickets to see Band-Maid and I wanted to get to the venue as soon as possible. So the comment had to wait. Even though it was a little bittersweet watching the episode. I still enjoyed it. I enjoy everything that you put out. Thanks for the deep dive on it. Cheers Colin!
I had but, it weighed a ton !!! Had to sell it ....I replaced it with an Inspired by Gibson ES 335 Blueberry burst and it is much lighter !! Love your channel man !!
First guitar I bought was the Sheraton II in natural blonde color. Mid 1990's and I still have it. HSC, the guitar, and a small Peavey amp for about 150-dollars US. Always have like it.
I have a 1994 epiphone sheraton, which is brilliant and recently bought one of the 86-88 series with epiphone by gibson on the headstock for a friend. Both feel great and sometimes I want a es335 but I remember my black sheraton and I am happy ❤️. I just added a bigsby and changed the knobs to fender amp style top hats. Hardware has nice patina on it. Found it in a second hand store with the case for about 300 euros back in 2012.
I have the same Sheraton II Pro in ebony & love it. It's a very nice playing guitar and sounds sweet. I owned a Korean-Sammick natural finished one for years. But it wasn't as well made as the Pro II. The Sammick one's gold hardware became tarnished and the neck joint wasn't sanded very well. The ebony finish on the Pro II is a looker, it's a keeper. I also have the 59 Limited Edition Epi Les Paul; Epiphone has really upped it's game! 😀
Loved your rendition of the soundtrack from the Netflix series "Weeds" (18:24-18:27) when you were accompanying yourself. I just ordered the Ebony Sheraton Pro II about 20 minutes ago should get it manana.🙂
I gotta tell you- I just absolutely love your videos. You are the mister rogers of guitars, but can rock like Hendrix and funny as hell. Thank you for the channel and all your work and dedication to us fans!
My favourite guitar! It's my go-to amongst a Gibson Les Paul Studio (1994) and the Yamaha Revstar (P90's, 2022). And.. it was the cheapest of the 3. My only gripe is that the frets got flat spots relatively quickly. But it's still my fav.
Hey! I managed to get the pots through the f holes. Sheraton II Pro (bought the Sheraton last summer). I put in Seth Lovers. I made my own quick connects on the end of the new pickup wires. Happy New Year. Sheraton is one I wanted for a long long time, since the first time I saw one. Saw a guy at a jam named Floyd Murphy, cousin to Matt Murphy (who used to say his cousin was a better player... I knew a friend from the day to Matt) and boy was he good). I told him I was just learning and he made me want to play more, to which he said come jam. They were beyond me at that point so I begged off saying I didn't bring my guitar. He held up his guitar and said here play mine. It was a 60s Sheraton (that's the connection from the pure rambling). Always thought about buying one for the longest time, since. The difference between the old blues guys was that they didn't get uptight about who played their stuff as long as you could play. Anyway, I still had to decline. Now... now I'd be in there like a dirty shirt. BTW, not long after I got to play with a bunch of master bluesmen.
I had a Sheraton II that I stupidly traded a few years ago, the neck was fantastic and it had Seymour Duncan pickups. About 3 years ago I saw a used sunburst Pro for sale and got it for €450. Couldn't be happier, the Pro is definitely a step up and the ProBuckers don't need to be upgraded. I also have a Gibson ES-335 and the Pro compares very well indeed. However the Gibson is also a fine guitar, mine is a keeper! So's the Pro!
Jealous… and it must be bloody good to tempt you away from an Eastman! 😁👍👍
I'm 77 years young and keep watching this video over and over again, and every time I watch it I learn something new.
Thanks for supporting! 😁👍
And smile.
Nice one man ... I am on board with the campaign for world peace!! 😆👍🎸✌️
With a Carvin tube amp it's just so warm, and clean, and even.
i had one of these korean ones (i guess from 1990 around)
and it was a very well made guitar that sounded very warm and rich.
especially the neck pick up sound was great.
overall i wasn t so much in that semi hollow body sound at that time so
i sold it later to buy my first sg....:)
I have a Epiphone ES-339, the downsized 335 size. What a fantastic guitar. Only paid $450 US. Epiphone ProBuckers are excellent.
Now I am gassing for a 339 too! 🤣
Cheers Eamon!
Cricket bat! lol!
I’m with you on the headstock
Another great review. Not a fan of that style guitar generally but now I am. You got some sweet tones out of it. Definitely going to check one of those out. Thanks for the hard work putting these videos together.
Gotta check one out dude!
Nice review and nice playing. I have the Midnight Sapphire one and love it. What a great guitar. The tones it has are outstanding.
Great review! I think the coil split thing could be a real plus for a lot of people - never occurred to me that a 335 style guitar would go for that option . . . you learn something new every day, doncha!
Great point, if you want a 'Stratty' single coil tone there it is, makes it versatile
I coil split mine. Makes great "new" sounds, but not quite single-coil strat sounds. I think the hollow parts make the single coils sound fatter than normal.
I believe the 335 Pro has split coils
I have this very model and I LOVE it… very versatile and plays beautifully… mine is a bit hefty though. As an aside, I recently just bought the Epiphone Noel Gallagher Riviera and can’t rate it highly enough, although this Sheraton does it all. Great video as always 👌🏻
Hoping the Gallagher one turns up here in HK - I'm happy with my Casino, love it in fact, but would like to give the Riviera a shot!
I have the non sig Riviera in Royal Tan, it is flawless. It does feel big playing it but not so big as to be uncomfortable.
I saw a video from epiphone with Noel G talking about how he worked with the company to give them his input, etc. I miss my old Riviera a lot.
So how does the Riveria compare to the Sheraton? I'm tossing these two up right now :-)
@@colhutchins The biggest difference is the pickups, then the tailpiece.
Neck is super comfortable for me and the Grover tuners are quality
I got it plek'd along with a post purchase setup and I'm in my happy place. I will replace the PuP switch - it's a little cheap and flakey. I haven't given much thought to changing out the pickups (yet).
Thanks for the review - great channel btw😁.
Got one. Best value for the money guitar I've ever owned. Surprising coil split tones.
Fantastic guitar for the price, and sounding great through the Princeton. Thanks for another excellent review!
Very nice! I’ve never played one, but back in the 1970s I had a late sixties Riviera that I bought because it was half the price of the 335s next to it in the shop. It was really good. I’m liking the Sheraton now.
Love the Ian Drury riffing too!
To sum this up,my opinions of this instrument are as follows:
Beautiful in construction, visual, sound, playability.
Cheers Col! 😎👍
Yes agreed... my first one was a natural Sheraton II and it caught me by surprise how much it loved high gain 🔥
I could listen to you play this guitar for hours!!! Bravo on the video, it’s a great guitar bought one last May!
Great video as always. Never knew this model existed, but it looks pretty sharp and sounds just as good!
Cheers! 😁👍
You should contact Epi for a knob maybe they will send you a set of pickups 😅love your vids Collin I do enjoy watching them no time skipping for me
Thank you for making time to create this for us. Very much enjoyed your review.
"lets get stuck in"......awesome phrase mate!
sweet guitar and great review as always!
Yes, it's a better 335. I've had mine since Feb of 2002 and still loving it!
The Edge gets a lot of flak for his delay, but without him, Bono is a solo act in a Dublin pub 😁
Great boogieing today, Colin!
Cheers Doug! 😁👍
Love that you called-out the "mojo" on this one. Hell, would be super cool to add a mojo-scale to the reviews! Oh, and speaking of cool, the Edge is definitely cool.
One gorgeous instrument, Colin! And a little Ian Dury at the halfway mark does the job as you say. Versatility to the max. Cheers!
A sample of simple finally understood - thanks brother. You're a jewel - you're da' best
I think that worked out pretty well for you! 😁👍👍
What a great review! I think i may have found the guitar I've been looking for to do many different styles of music. Thanks. Keep uo the great work.
Hi Michael how are you doing 👋😊
Haven't got a sheraton or 335 but I finally recieved my Noel Gallagher riviera and that is a proper kick arse guitar, I've always liked epiphone semi hollows over gibson semi hollows, they have that brit-coolness about them. Glad you brought up Noel as the sheraton if you can't get the riviera signature was also used a hell of a lot through Noel Gallaghers career so offers a cheaper alternative with all the history still with it.
I love the sheraton II pro. I swapped the bridge for a gotoh & put gibson 57 classic humbuckers in mine & it sounds amazing. Great vid.
I just picked one up (this exact one) and I love it so far! Super solid and sounds great. The most "pro" feeling guitar I have ever owned.
Very pro. And hilarious. Always joyful to watch your reviews. Love it.
Love my II Pro, had it for a little over a year and so glad I got it!
Thank you Collin - again for all your great work!!
"Oh my God, what have I done?" Love your work, sir.
😆👍
Another great review Colin and some nice playing too… really enjoyed it. Thanks!
Thanks Charles!
Hi Steve how are you doing 👋😊
Thanks.
Jeff did you went straight for the epi 335?
Didn't you had thoughts about sheraton?
@@dimitris70 I was just getting back into guitar a few years ago and didn't want to spend much. I decided I wanted a semi hollow and the 335 was on sale for $400 new, and as I said I prefer the more normal looks of the 335 to the fancier Sheraton.
I get my Epiphone Sheraton II Pro Wednesday. Same as yours. What a beast of a guitar. So beautiful and has the perfect Bluesy tones I love. Thanks for the review and further exciting me! I can't wait till Wednesday!!! 😍
Nice one! 😁👍
As always, a great review. I always feel like I took away a lot of valuable info after your videos. Keep up the good work!
😁👍
I’ve played Sheraton II guitars for twenty years in a world touring rocknroll band.
Sturdy, reliable, looks great on stage. The sound is rich and versatile. I put bigsbys on them and play a variety of sounds.
They are superb working musicians instruments!
I drain the wax out of the pick ups using a hair dryer much to my wifes dismay. It gives a more resonant sound.
I love your channel and I have to tell you I have just got my first SG…
I love the hairdryer tip! 😆👍 cheers man thanks for supporting!
What a beautiful sound! Warm yet transparent.
Nice one!… yes there’s definitely some great mojo in these! 🔥
Yeah get behind me in the queue brother! 😁👍
@@theguitaristas I am!!! I'm not gonna be able to deny myself of the natural one!
I'll just play it sat down 😂🎸👌🎶🎶🎶
Cheers Rafael, maybe time to get another??
I had but, it weighed a ton !!! Had to sell it ....I replaced it with an Inspired by Gibson ES 335 Blueberry burst and it is much lighter !! Love your channel man !!
Nice looking guitar bro. Looks pretty big though.
That feedback you got at around the 20 min mark was music to my ears 👍
Cheers from NZ 😎🎸🤘
Great Review as I Love mine also. So helpful as a total, Great Personality & experience. Thank you
I have the same Sheraton II Pro in ebony & love it.
Nice one! 😆👍
I gotta tell you- I just absolutely love your videos. You are the mister rogers of guitars, but can rock like Hendrix and funny as hell. Thank you for the channel and all your work and dedication to us fans!
Cheers Mike that’s really appreciated! 😁🙏
Great video per usual!!! I've always wanted a Sheraton.
Nice work! 😁👍👍
Great playing . Got a real cool 60's vibe your riffs today. And that note didn't want to Quit.
Nice video Mr Guitaristas'.
Cheers mate!
Rolls with butter -whiskey. Merry Christmas🎄 and a Happy New Year!
Nice one! 😂👍
