Ok, my opinion on Odile: I find her a cool character, she is not the average anime girl. She's more of a villain than her father who is quite a weak villain compared to her. Usually, she's portrayed as not so bright and only a side kick to a villain, but here, we see a character with a potential, to bad she had to die in the end. Also, when I was a kid, I always thought of her as more attractive than Odette. Odile seems like a fourth member of the Trix girls from Winx Club, which means she's pretty cool character. Also, very relatable. Her conversations with her father, reminds me when my widowed dad started using dating apps XD.
Because of her, I always thought Odil is more interesting than Odett. Compared to the other version of her she have personality, even in the ballet version, she just vanish from the ballet after the ball scene.
I actually really love these old movies, its hand drawn really rare in todays 3d animated world. This is why i love Studio Ghibil(i butchered the name sorry) and Ozamu Tezuka's styles. In terms of the audio, the old vcr sounds adds something to it. I cant really tell how ngl
I think the Rothbart on the swan princess was a better villain he wasn't whiny and lovesick like this one he was using Odette to take over the kingdom.
odile and rothbart are the best part of this movie, they both really stole the show when they were on screen, at least in my opinion. i was really enjoying the movie until they ended it with their deaths, i thought it was unnecessarily intense for characters who barely did anything "evil" throughout the runtime. like maybe if they did more evil onscreen i would be more ok with it but as is they were just the best characters who got sniped for practically no reason still a very fun little movie, but i wish the ending was different edit; i rewatched this movie again and came back here to see if anyone else had any new thoughts, and wow, i'm surprised to see people who think this rothbart is whiny/annoying. i thought he was really cute and fun the whole way through! then again, my friends tell me i have terrible taste in men, so i'm probably biased
@@JD-el9eo exactly, i totally agree! in most swan lake adaptations they try to give rothbart some kind of malicious intent (usually tied to wanting to overthrow the rulers of the kingdom/become king in his own right) but this rothbart kind of just seems like he wants company more than anything; he just seems to lack the means and proper social skills to get what he wants, which is honestly less evil in my eyes and a lot more sad. odile, who is definitely the more socially adept of the two, still seems to lack the ability to really engage with human social structures without being misinterpreted/misread as malicious, when really she just wants exactly the same thing that her dad wants, company the comparison to wild animals is a great comparison, bc i have just about as much dislike of them as i do any wild predatory animal; what they do isn't *great* when compared to human standards, but it's not like they work in the same framework. for all we know, the underhanded tactics they use to "gain" love is the exact kind of thing that would be totally normal in their own society! it only becomes a problem for the other characters when they encroach on human ideals and systems i think a lot about how, in the original japanese audio, odile sounds genuinely shocked and hurt that siegfried would imply that she's unloveable for being a sorcerer's daughter, and it makes me think that neither of these characters really think that what they're doing is in any way bad at all; they're just doing what they know how to do, and i personally think it's sad that the narrative ultimately punishes them for it. then again, this movie is 40 years old this year, so even our own society's standards on what counts as a happy ending has changed; it's probably not fair of me to judge it based on what i would have wanted to see now

@@JD-el9eo Well, perhaps Odile was never permitted to interact with anyone other than her father? I don't know her age, but she seems to be in her late teens, so all her life she has been as much a prisoner of Rothbart as Odette has. I think Rothbart, out of loneliness and resentment, kept Odile isolated from others as well. Both so that he could have company in his solitude and also to ensure she suffered the same misery and loneliness as he did. I think Odile fell in love with Siegfried (although it's doubtful she does actually love him) simply because he is the only man she has ever properly met other than her father. It was the original 81 dub we were used to in the UK on home media, will have to watch the celeb one one of these days, hopefully some of the awful dialogue lines have been improved too. What amazed me about this, being Japanese Anime was the ending, I half expected the heart with sword in it and the empty crown to the the ending as Japanese animation can be unsubtly melancholy at times...
