1:46 Alternative headcanon: Yoshi's Island Bowser was too immature to understand that he *isn't* king, so everyone calls him "King Bowser" to avoid a toddler tantrum, despite him being only a prince, while PiT Bowser is matured and capable of understanding the title of "Prince"
That actually makes so much sense, especially the power struggle in Bowser Jr’s Journey. One of them definitely would’ve been next in line for the throne if Jr wasn’t born.
In Mario Party Island Tour, Bowser and Dry Bowser are separate characters. Bowser considers his Dry counterpart as a “close family friend”. I believe that this Dry Bowser is actually Bowser’s Brother who was disowned by his parents for a mysterious reason, hence is why Bowser doesn’t refer to Dry Bowser as his brother. Perhaps he’s also the father to the Koopalings and Bowser simply raised them in the place of Bowser’s brother, making him the elusive Morton Koopa Sr.
I like to think of the koopalings as like 3rd cousins to junior, we just don't see the adults. Them being a part of the royal bloodline in that way would make it make sense why bowser would call on them to help with his plans
I've also heard some treat them as adopted children of Bowser; that way, they can still be Bowser's kids but have Bowser Jr as the heir (since he's blood-related)
Unlikely they are never called causes or imply they are related to Bowser or Junior. The closest they've gotten is being called his friends which is weird for at least Roy.
@@BR-jw7pm Bowser Junior is called Bowser's only child not blood related child. This is basically confirming they can't be his children since well you are still someone's son if you are adopted, and Roy has attended Night School before.
I think an easy solution to all of this if Nintendo wanted to sort out Bowsers family tree: Reintroduce Bowser having a brother, who would be Morton Koopa Sr, as we know Morton the Koopaling is also a Jr. The Koopalings would be Morton Sr's children, making them Bowser Jrs Cousins. They're nobility as they're part of the Royal Blood, but not the heirs. Then the Koopa Kids from the Mario Party games could just be members of the same species and are hired Mercenaries.
Partners in Time is explicitly set after the Yoshi's Island games, the baby bros were just delivered by the Stork in Yoshi's Island, and the babies are a bit older in PIT, they can jump and attack enemies, they also wear clothes instead of staying in diapers, and Kamek references Yoshi's Island, he says it's been a while since he attempted to kidnap the babies
I don't know why people think Partners in Time isn't after the Yoshi's Island games just because Bowser knows who Baby Bowser is. For all we know, Bowser time travelled to the past AFTER PiT
A few more notes about Bowser's Brother: - The reason the guides singled out the Blue Bowser is because in two of the stages he appears in (8-4 and 9-4) he doesn't turn into an enemy when defeated. - Despite the blue coloration being a partial side-effect of Bowser not being at the bridge, Super Mario All-Stars apparently has an unused palette for Bowser that gives him the blue coloring, so they may have seriously considered keeping Bowser's bro around - The notion of Bowser's brother being a blue version of him sounds absurd, but remember: Luigi for the first few years of his creation was basically a Green Mario.
I actually really like bowser and bowser jrs relationship. Bowser had a troubled childhood with non supportive parents, so now he wants jr to have a good childhood experience while having a caring father.
Real Talk, Bowser's Brother would be a great plot anchor for Nintendo to use if they ever wanted to have Bowser himself be a playable character, or needed him to be aligned with Mario. Just have his brother challenge his right to the throne, persuade his subjects to his side, and banish Bowser from his own kingdom. Then his brother is way more organized and cruel now that he has power, and presents a huge threat to the Mushroom Kingdom, so Peach has Mario and Bowser team up to go get the less competent, but kinder and now-missed-by-his-subjects Bowser back on the throne, because he's annoying but more manageable. Bam, main plot thread made.
I mean, that kind of sounds like the plot of Bowser’s Inside Story 2, tbh 😅 It’d be approximately similar, just with Bowser’s Brother instead of Fawful, and a more overt alliance between Bowser and the Bros.
We already had the third party enemy tries to dethrone Bowser so he teams up with the Mario bros trope 2 times, doubt they'll do it again soon unless they run out of ideas.
Bowser’s Brother is such an oddity that I wish they brought him back. For all we know he could be the dad of the Kooplalings, which I guess would make him Morton Sr. It would be amazing if he made a comeback in a modern Mario game, in which Bowser has to call in his brother when his plan isn’t working half way through.
Austin: I'm imagining Bowser's brother as much more laid back and not all that interested in this conquering stuff (he wasn't the first heir to the throne, Bowser got the majority of the kingly grooming, and BB is perfectly fine with that arrangement), but he still feels responsible and wants to help his brother out when asked (rarely). He would come in and start having small talk with the mario bros before realizing "-oh wait! That's right! I was supposed to fight you guys! Yeah, sorry about this..." That would also go nicely with his original appearance: he was called in as a last-ditch effort to stop mario when he was tearing through the very last castle, was swiftly defeated, and hasn't been asked to help with anything for the next like 40 years
@@Eris1987 i dont think nintendo ever explicitly said the koopalings werent related to bowser, they just said the koopalings werent his kids. also, just because bowser's brother is the result of palette inconsistencies, that doesnt make him not canon. he could easily have become a reoccurring and indisputably canon character if nintendo wanted him to
The term for his family is essentially royal tribe. It is implied Bowser, the Koopalings, and other "major" members like Bombom are part of a more elite sub-species deonted by their distinctive shells.
I think they knew from early on that they wanted to give him a family member, but kept running into issues until they eventually landed on Bowser Jr. Bowser's Brother had an immediate gameplay issue of just being too similar to Bowser, so they decided on kids for Bowser so they could be weaker. The Koopalings stuck around for a while, but the problem was there were too many of them. The Koopa Kids were just sort of placeholders for the Mario Party games.
One thing i always think about when it comes to Bowser’s family tree- In an issue of the UK version of Nintendo Power, a character named “Clawdia Koopa” was mentioned. I believe this was unofficial, but for years, I remember Mario fans taking that and running, declaring Bowser Jr’s mom to be named “Clawdia Koopa”. I saw a bunch of it on sites like DeviantArt growing up
I see the Koopalings as Bowser's step children and the Koopalings as Jr's half siblings. Bowser married someone and became the step dad to the Koopalings and then had Jr, but Jr's mum died when Bowser Jr was delivered. When off work, the Koopalings call Bowser dad but call Bowser Bowser on work.
The Koopalings are not Bowser's children, Bowser Junior is Bowser's only son. You are still someone's son even if adopted. Bowser Junior doesn't have a mother and even if he did she wouldn't have died giving birth since babies excluding Yoshies and Piranha Plants are all delivered by stork. Also, Bowser is like in his 20s and Roy is attending Night School in one of the games so yyyyeeaaaahhhh. He also beats up Iggy for making fun of Junior something he wouldn't do to his son adopted or otherwise.
@@Eris1987why can't Bowser Jr have a mother, why can't she have died prior to the games? Miyamoto said Bowser is not married or divorced, so the other options are an ex, a fling or a dead wife unless Bowser Jr is a clone. Bowser Jr is not adopted in any way, he looks identical to his dad as a baby
@@KairanFarr well by the time of Superstar Baseball Bowser is in his 20s, so there really isn't much time for him to have had a fling, let alone after he developed an obsession with Peach. Bowser Junior probably wished for a son when he had the Star Rod, at least that's my hypothesis. Several months later a stork would arrive at the Koopa Castle with a Kuppa Egg. And since there was no wife in this process Junior looks just like his father when he was young.
@@Eris1987a baby would still need a mother and father. So either Bowser Jr's mum is dead, an ex girlfriend Bowser had or a fling Bowser had (since Bowser is not married or divorced) or Bowser cloned himself and Bowser Jr was born
Partners in time can't be before yoshis island because of the Mario brothers. The baby bros are already running around and "born" whereas the plot of island is that they're being delivered. And they obviously can't do anything for themselves Maybe baby Bowser is called king in island because he likes pretending. Maybe he demands to be called king in his younger years and nanny kamek is just playing along
I like to think that the Koopa Kids are adopted, because maybe Bowser saw them all alone and didn’t want them to grow up like he did, which explains their loyalty to Bowser as compared to them just being a “mercenary group,” and also why in early games they refer to him as their “father.”
They are just his elite troops and not his children. Bowser Junior has been stated multiple times to be Bowser's only son, and an adopted son is still a son. Also, Bowser is supposed to be like in his 20s and the Roy has attended night school.
@@Eris1987 None of the games are canon because none of them are made to make sense or have any sort of continuity that isn't incredibly minor or specific to certain series, Mario's Time Machine Deluxe is as much of a valid source as every other major release
@@rajkanishu The thing is many people are under the false assumption that the Mario games have no canon, don't make sense, and have no continuity when the exact opposite is true. There is indeed a continuity to the Mario canon and one that is fairly consistent and makes perfect sense in this high fantasy world. In addition to this, the existence of this canon is confirmed by developers referring to a Canon of Mario Tales in which some games are outright stated to not be part of the continuity of it. Meanwhile games like Mario's Time Machine don't fit into Canon of Mario Tales for a variety of reasons.
The Koopa Kids would be an interesting thing to see return. I guess their collective purpose has been filled by Bowser Jr. and the Koopalings, but it would be nice if they were at least in the Mario Party games.
I really want a game, Mario Party or otherwise, to feature Bowser Jr., the Koopalings and Koopa Kid all together. I know people hate that the Koopalings are playable in Mario Kart 8, for example, but I love them.
the Koopalings deserve to become regular characters on par with everyone else, they are the perfect antagonists and should've 100% replaced the weird rabbit guys from Odyssey
Ive always liked to theorize that bowser turned to cloning due to being too genetically different from a regular koopa to have children. That the koopa kids are the ones that came out wrong, and that he accepted them as his children until he made the perfect clone that is bowser jr.
Well Bowser isn't a Koopa(NokoNoko), he is a Kuppa aka the same species of turtles the Koopalings are. The Koopalings aren't Bowser's kids nor are they related. Also, Junior while technically a clone isn't a clone like most people think. I believe Junior was wished for by Bowser when he had the Star Rod and a stork would later arrive with a Kuppa egg, and since there was no mother involved Junior is a technical clone.
I genuinely wonder how you came ti the conclusion of PiT being before Yoshi's Island, when the Brothers are literally delivered by the stork at the beginning of the game and Peach likely wasnt even born yet.
It's a bit sad to think about, but it's possible that Bowser had adopted the Koopalings at some point before Super Mario Bros 3, but disowned them once he was able to have a son of his own by Sunshine
I think it makes more sense to place Yoshi's Island before Partners in Time; the first Yoshi's island game represents the delivery of Mario and Luigi as babies, and I can't imagine anything really preceding that that includes those two; the way I see it they were literally just born. Plus, They have their overalls in Partners in Time right? And they can walk and jump around, and talk a lil bit-- that's wayyy ahead of what Mario was capable of in Yoshi's Island & DS, in those games he's really treated like a newborn who can't even stand without the power of a star. This isn't meant to be criticism tho, just giving my input! Love the vid as always.
What if Bowser just cloned himself prior to the Mario games. He never needed a spouse and we have seen cloning technology in some Mario media. So about 5 - 9 years before the games take place, Bowser cloned himself due to not being able to provide a child and to want to keep the bloodline going. When you clone someone, the clone always starts out as a baby. So Bowser names his clone Bowser Jr and we go to today. An explanation for Bowser Jr being the result of Bowser having the star rod doesn't really make sense since we never get any proof that he wished for a son. But cloning would still work.
I've always liked the idea that Bowser's Brother is the father of the Koopalings, giving reason both for why they're close to Bowser in some way, and for why they disappeared for a while. (Bowser had his own son, he has less time to babysit). Also of note, while Blue Bowser was given normal Bowser colors in All-Stars, the blue colors have unused sprites in the game. As for the Koopa Kids, idunno. Maybe they're child actors.
I've seen a theory (I think it was from Lockstin) that the Koopalings could as well be intelligent and evolved Boom-Booms rather than Koopas, because they resemble the regular Boom-Boom more than Bowser (particularly noticeable for the three big guys, Morton, Roy and Ludwig).
They aren't really Koopas or Boom Booms. They lack any mention of being NokoNokos or Bunbuns However, they do have mention of the being referred to as Kuppas. Which makes sense they do have those traits of being decently large and able to spit fire for example.
My theory is this: Kamek took a koopa and made him into a prince, and essentially took over the kingdom and inserted a whole fake monarchy into the kingdom.
My headcanon is that Bowser somehow got a hold of cloning technology and cloned himself. That would explain Bowser Jr. looking identical to Bowser and not having any sort of features from his mother. Considering the plot line of Sunshine is that Bowser Jr. Is using the paintbrush E. Gadd gave to him and in the past Luigi also had the poltergust, E. Gadd. Seems to lend his technology to anyone who genuinely needs it and E. Gadd doesn't ask questions. I assume maybe he allowed Bowser to use some of his technology, and then Bowser created Jr. from his own DNA.
Bowser doesn't really need cloning tech, there are various ways to clone oneself in Mario's world. Whether be magic impostors to fight alongside you, eating Cherries or Flowers, whatever the Mini Kuppas are doing, and disguising enemies as oneself seen as far back as Super Mario Bros. Bowser Junior is not a clone made by cloning tech, but is probably a technical clone. I believe when Bowser had the Star Rod he wished for a son, and several months later a stork would arrive with a Kuppa Egg. And since there was no mother involved, Junior is technically a clone looking just like Baby Bowser. Junior probably used his Shadow Mario disguise to fool the Old E. Gadd, it was a disguise good enough to fool a whole island afterall.
Short theory Bowser’s Brother’s name is Morton Koopa Sr. And he’s the father of the Koopalings, but now he’s dead and became King Boo Explanation In king boos first appearance he tells Luigi that trapping the bros in paintings is his revenge “for all the trouble they’ve caused him” despite their being no proof of the bros causing him trouble. UNLESS THEY WERE THE CAUSE OF HIS DEATH. Now looking at bowsers brother, a character we only see once EVER. Perhaps the reason isn’t because he was retconned, but because he died and since he couldn’t be ruler while alive, the next best thing is ruler of the dead. As for being the koopalings father, well if bowser is the only living, mature member of whatever his species of Koopa is, then the only way the koopalings could be born but not be his kids is that they were born from a no longer alive member, which I just explained could be Morton/King boo, thus when he died his children had to be adopted by Bowser.
Super Mario 64 DS there is a King Boo boss fight. In addition King Boo is the king of Boos and is a minion of Bowser. As we know Mario and Luigi have fought Bowser's minion Boos countless times which would mean they have fought King Boo's subjects. Bowser's Brother was the result of a pallete swap glitch and the axe not registering the color changing keeping him as blue instead of green. The Koopalings aren't related to Bowser in anyway.
I’ve always thought that Bowser Jr was a clone of Bowser created by Kamek, but Bowser felt bad that he didn’t have a mother so he told him that Peach was her
Bowser and his family are actually same species as other Koopa sub species .. but I’d say they have total blood which makes them look different In terms of his family , I simply put it as : - bowser mom or dad died or was dethroned and banished - Kamek was bowsers father figure - Koopalings and bowser are all siblings from different moms ( sometimes the same mom) because he’s a king and got with some Koopa females. They carry bowser blood so they resemble him - blue bowser is bowsers brother who was killed or shunned or something or abandoned his post ( maybe turned into dry bowser ). And the Koopa kids are his kids . Thus bowsers hired nephews . Until they got fired and went on their way maybe back to their dad
So I wouldn't call them a subspecies of Koopas(NokoNokos), but their own species of turtles called Kuppas which is a seperate species from the NokoNokos. With closer turtle relatives to NokoNokos being the Nokobon, Eggshell Koopas, and Snortoise. While Mini Kuppas would be a subspecis of Kuppas, and Jr. Troopa might also be a type of Kuppa over NokoNoko. As for Bowser's parents, probably the former and the same goes for Peach, Mario & Luigi are lucky. On Kamek, I agree. The Koopalings are just not Bowser's kids, like at all, nor his nephews. There is also the chance they are as old as he is too. They aren't related either. Bruce is a pallete glitch and seems to be a mistake akin to the Bubble Dry Bowser localization error, and as valid of a character as the Mushroom King.
I feel Koopa Kids were like Mini-Mes from Austin Power where he's a miniature clone of Bowser and is like his Minions (yes, THOSE type of Minions)...the term "Bowser's avatar" makes this theory a lot more possible IMO.
Excluding the retcon that I won't consider, in the Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 tv show it's implied that Larry (called Cheatsy) is the heir to the throne This could have been still a thing if Miyamoto didn't retcon the Koopalings not being Bowser's kids at all, as they could have just been adopted, with Larry only being the heir temporarily until Bowser Jr. was born (hatched? idk it's a turtle).
Reminds me of a sketch I once wrote. It was meant as a joke, not a serious theory, but it fits here. We see a younger (but adult) Bowser having a war council with his generals, including a Koopa Troopa general identified as Morton Koopa (senior). Younger versions of the Koopalings play in the background. As they get too loud, Bowser orders General Morton "Tell you kids to play quiet!" and the general mutters under his breath "Of course. *My* kids." implying that they are actually Bowser's. (The idea here is that Bowser has an ongoing affair with General Morton's wife.) Now, is that plausible as a canon explanation? Hard to say. Nintendo would certainly not go for it. The explanation that the Koopalings' father is Bowser's brother is probably more in character. Speaking of Bowser's family, a different video about that topic mentioned an official comic where the main antagonist is a Magikoopa who claims to be Bowser's cousin. He is not indentified by name, but it is obviously Kamek. Kamek being part of the family would explain some things.
The way I see, and this is based off their most recent interpretations, Bowser is a legitimate king (he was probably called a king when he only spoke like a baby because of a mistake they made of telling him of his inheritance too soon, so he only understood the concept of a prince when he matured a little bit beore PiT) whose parents we have no idea about (obviously). The Koopalings were adopted at some point and became essentially Bowser's generals, leading smaller personal factions within his army. They were probably called his children for simplicity's sake but there being 7 of them, each with their own militia, would've led to a power struggle that Bowser would've probably wanted to avoid. This is where Bowser Jr comes in. We don't know *who* Bowser could've had an affair with (although tbf "she" probably wouldn't know "she" got a kid with him because, y'know, stork delivery and all), but he looks so close to how Bowser looked as a child that it's unlikely he lacks shared genetics with his "dad". "Bowser's Brother" was never real, he was probably called that solely as a failed attempt to intimidate the Mario bros back when they were facing off against the Koopa King for the first time. He most likely was always kinda sus. And the Koopa Kids are likely other orphaned children of Bowser's species, but because he already had the Koopalings and their power struggle, and with no way to make the then-singular Koopa Kid a legitimate heir without sparking an argument with them since that Koopa Kid looks too much like the adult Bowser to make sense. What happened afterwards is unknown, but they were probably demoted to grunt work somewhere down the line. They are probably lower level lieutenants than the Koopalings at this point, or were transferred over to somewhere else outside the Koopa Kingdom for them to have new lives. Who can say.
The Koopalings are not adopted Bowser Junior is Bowser's only son. Them being called his children in the 2 manuals has been retconned out of canon and they never were his children. There probably isn't a mother, Bowser is probably slighly over 24-25 by the time of Mario Superstar Baseball and would been younger than this when he had Junior. So this would have overlapped when he already developed his obsession with Peach. Bruce was a pallete glitch and is probably as canon as the Mushroom King is to Super Mario Bros. That's what is going on there, it wasn't to mirror the Mario Bros. The Mini Kuppas are weird and could be a subspecies of Kuppas. Keep in Mind members of the Koopa Troop while they can look different often take on a uniform appearance.
I always went with the Logic that, Bowsers true kid is Bowser Jr, the Koopalings are Adopted, and Bowsers Brother is Morton Sr the True Father to the Koopalings who’s either Missing or Died. Hence why we don’t see him anymore.
@@harizzafran7973 no he is specifically called Bowser's only son, not just biological son. We see it in Minion Quest. "King Bowser's only son." We see it in Bowser Junior's Journey "Lord Bowser's only son." And it is established in Bowser Jr.'s description on the Official Nintendo Website. "The only son of Bowser, the King of the Koopas." You are still someone's son even if you are adopted, and there is no language used to say Junior is the only biological son, just that he is Bowser's Only Son. This makes it where the Koopalings cannot be Bowser's children period. This makes sense because they never call Junior brother or Bowser father and only refer to them as lord or boss. Bowser also will beat up the Koopalings such as Iggy for making fun of Junior, something Bowser wouldn't do if they were his adopted children. Also, the Koopalings are probably near Bowser's age.
@@harizzafran7973 well more of fanon instead of a head canon, which there is nothing wrong with. In addition to that they are still his kids in the comics, I think one of the manga runs, and of course the Supershow.
I find it funny how much people go over who Bowser Jr’s mother is when we know the Mario world works with storks so their doesn’t need to be a mother. I like the head canon idea that the Koopalings are adopted but understand it’s not what official sources say. Never heard of the Mario Party Koopa kids being Bowser’s Avatars before, kinda like it, works with Bowser knowing Magic. Mario the lost level has been described as happening in a parallel world from the original game. So too me that could me Earth 2 Bowser has a Brother while main universe Bowser doesn’t.
I dunno if storks canonically bringing babies in the Mario universe means there doesn't need to be a mother. The whole "babies come from storks" story still has a stork bring the baby to a mother and a father, after all. :P Also where's that description of Lost Levels as a parallel world from, out of curiosity? I don't think I've seen that before, but it does kinda make sense.
Yeah wouldn't need it. I think Bowser when he had the Star Rod wished for a son, and several months later a stork arrived with a kuppa egg. And since there is no mother Bowser Junior looks just like Baby Bowser. Also, correct on the adopted thing not being the intention.
@@Idran They do, from a specific place, see the opening of Yoshi's New Island. The only exception to this is Yoshies and Piranha Plants. Probably the place called Parallel World and possibly the Special Worlds seen in future games.
@@Eris1987 Wait sorry I'm having a little trouble following, are you agreeing with me that the stork might still only deliver babies to a mother and father? I haven't played Yoshi's New Island, but looking up the intro on Mario Wiki it sounds like it shows a couple? But it also sounds like you're maybe saying I'm wrong, so I'm not sure if you mean there's some detail there that shows it doesn't _have_ to be a couple.
@@Idran the intro of Yoshi's New Island informs the player there is a place where storks deliver babies from. Yes it does mention a couple in this dialogue btw. However, Bowser might have gotten a son from here by another way which would explain why Junior looks exactly like Baby Bowser.
One theory I've heard before with Bowser Jr: There is no mother because Bowser reproduced asexually. Which is why Bowser himself as a child and Bowser Jr look SO goddamn similar. Some reptiles are capable of this in real life.
I like to think the Koopalings are adoptived children to Bowser and they might be orphens and they might not all share biological parents. Bowser just sees his only biological child worthy as the succsessor, he also pampers him abit extra because parents do often discriminate between genetic children and adopted children. As for all those mini bowsers i would say they are Bowsers "Avatars" or more like Humanculi made from his dna. Btw Bowsers species are Dragon Turtels
I'd like to note the Crafted and Wooly World games are can but didn't happen. The reason is because the are just the result of Baby Mario, Luigi, and Peach playing in a daycare. It could probably just be a localization problem. In addition Mario & Luigi: Partner's In Time can't take place before the Yoshi's Island series because Baby Mario and Luigi are already living in the Mushroom Kingdom with their parents and have been fighting Baby Bowser for a bit already. While Baby and Luigi haven't even been delivered to their parents in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. Also, Kamek in M&LPIT refers to having kidnapped Baby Mario & Luigi previously aka referencing the events of Yoshi's Island. Here's how I see the early timeline. Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island(Super Mario: Yoshi's Island) Yoshi's New Island Yoshi's Island DS Mario & Luigi: Partner In Time(Mario & Luigi RPG 2) (Past Sections) Game & Watch Gallery 2: Vermin Yoshi Story Yoshi's Crafted World(Yoshi Craft World) and Yoshi's Woolly World(Yoshi Wool World) Mario Superstar Baseball also acknowledges Bowser lied as well. I don't think Bowser Junior has a mother. I disagree with the usage of the term Koopa species. I'd say species of turtles. This is because they are all turtles, and not all koopas. Bowser or Kuppa is well a kuppa just like the Koopalings which were called little bowsers. Meanwhile the Koopa Troopas are called NokoNokos and not Kuppas. NokoNokos, Kuppas, Spinys, Lakitus, and Buzzy Beetles are all called Turtles. Do you get what I mean? You did forget games like Yoshi's Safari. The Koopaling retcon was easy since it was only mentioned in the manuals. But it is clear they are not meant to his kids anymore and only his elite troops who are friends of Bowser Junior and lead the Turtle Tribe. With Bowser Junior stated to Bowser's ONLY SON, thus making the Koopalings not related by blood or adopted. Just like how Walugi is not related to Wario. The Minikuppas probably need some translations from the Japanese dialogue to check and see what is going on there. He was a palette mistake to begin with, and in All-star remakes he isn't blue. Similar to how the underground Koopas have blue shells but green shells in the remake. But for him the palette mistake is because the lack of an axe nearby thus not loading the green color. Bowser's color is also blue until the axe loads in the green color. Source on axe info is 10 Things you've NEVER seen in Super Mario Bros. However, in the Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia in the Japanese version, it apparently calls him a blue bodied Bowser whose identity is unknown.
I know there's not much to support this, just a thought that I had while watching this, but what if the Koopa Kingdom used to be divided and Bowser united it, the seven Koopalings are just the used to be heads of these sub-Kingdoms? If Nintendo where ever willing to bring back the Koopa Kids, they could basically just be stronger Koopa Troopas but would stand to better show the difference between Koopa Troopas and whatever Koopa Bowser is.
So Bowser didn't unite a divided Koopa Kingdom, however Prince now King Bowser did conquer other lands and subjugate others such as King Boo and King Bob-omb and even conquered the whole of what is now called the Bowser Kingdom(Country). People always forget he is a conqueror. I do think there is some merit of the Koopalings joining under him has high ranking Kuppas given they do seem to be adults and SMB3's manual does mention members joining the Turtle Tribe. So if we take into account the retcon that removed them being his children, then they would be new troops or elite troops in this case. The Koopa Kids aka Mini Kuppas are not Koopa Troopas(NokoNokos). There is a difference between Koopa Troopas and Bowser just it isn't obvious in English. Bowser aka Kuppa is probably also his species name, this is because the Koopalings are called Little Kuppas(Bowsers). With Jr. Troopa and Mini Kuppas being some subspecies. Kuppas themselves are turtles and not a subspecies of Koopas(NokoNokos). Koopas(NokoNokos) are their own species of turtles.
@@Yamauma-No.10 I said Kuppa not Kappa. Yeah I get Bowser is based on a Chinese Soft Shell Turtle, the Shell Creeper, the Demon Ox King, and the Kappa. Bowser in universe is intended to be a turtle and not a dragon. Some turtles in the Mario World can just breath fire, like how turtles in the Mario world are bipedal and can remove their shells and even talk.
Just a correction Myamoto does infact know who bowser junior's mother is And it is infact shingeru myamoto himself Yes myamoto the mom of bowser junior
What I have found is that Morton Koopa Sr is the father of Bowser and Divili Koopa with Bowser being the father f Bowser Jr. and Divili being the father of Ludwig, Roy, Wendy, Morton Jr, iggy, Lemmy, and Larry koopa
I have many thoughts about the Koopa clan. And how things might be a BIT complicated but could work out. Koopalings is easy. They are adopted. Who are their parents and what caused Bowser to take them in or be their godfather? Who knows. Jr. is tough. Because literally there is no information besides the joke answer that Miyamoto is the mom just because he made him. I will say it’s magic, and maybe at one point Bowser made an egg with magic to create a perfect duplicate in Jr. Mostly because bowser as a child looks exactly like Jr whenever we see baby bowser. Brother is dead but I want to see him back because Mario and Luigi fighting Bowser and his brother is peak. And lastly the Koopa Kids. They aren’t random Koopa clan members since they talk to Bowser like they are family. We know there is a lot of them in Advance, up to 99 exist. And their original names are interesting. Being called Mini Bowsers in Japanese. So my best bet is that they are just clones of Bowser through magic. They are imperfect which is why they are so misshapen. And are temporary cronies he can summon unlike the proper one he does with Junior.
They can't be adopted since they aren't Bowser's kids, it's stated several times Bowser has only one son. We see it in Minion Quest. _"King Bowser's only son."_ We see it in Bowser Junior's Journey _"Lord Bowser's only son."_ And it is established in Bowser Jr.'s description on the Official Nintendo Website. _"The only son of Bowser, the King of the Koopas."_ And you are still someone's son if you are adopted. Also, the Koopalings are probably around the same age as Bowser, if not too old to be his kids. They also never call him father nor Junior Brother. I agree Junior doesn't have mom, but I don't think Bowser himself created Junior but I do think Magic was involved. I think Bowser wished for a son when he has the Star Rod, and several month later a stork arrived at the Koopa Castle with a Kuppa Egg. Bruce was a pallete glitch and seems to be as canon as the Mushroom King is to SMB, aka not at all. They could also be a subspecies of Kuppas hence the name Mini Kuppas. It would be worth looking into to see if they call him father or anything else like that in Japanese. They could also just be disguised hencemen.
I heard somewere that in one of mario & luigi games the koopalings refer to bowser as dad or father and that was after nintendo confirmed that the koopalings weren't bowser children, I honestly don't think it was a mistake by the writers so maybe they just are adopted, or they just treat bowser as their father.
The only game they referred to him as dad was Morton in the Japanese version of Paper Jam, where after he, Iggy and Lemmy got beaten by Mario, he said "Dad...I mean Lord Bowser.." (or something like that), other than that they called him "Lord Bowser" throughout the whole series, so I think that line could have just been a throwaway joke.
@@Eris1987 My bad, it was the German version apparently, not the Japanese. Morton says after the boss fight: "Forgive us... Father. I mean, of course... Master Bowser!". You can find it in the Mario Wiki about the Koopalings, in "References". I had heard from someone else that he said it also in the Japanese version, but I couldn't actually find anything for that.
I sometime wonder if Bowser is both male and female at the same time, it would explain why there is no mother in the first place, which means other than being the father, he is also a mother.
My thoughts summarized: Bowser and the Koopalings etc are a species called 'King Koopas', that are stronger and much rarer than other Koopa variants, so much so that most of them are closely related and/or know each other. Bowser, being Bowser, wants the fame to himself, and wipes his brother from the history books and refers to him as just another impostor. The Koopa Kids were hired help, the Koopalings are more closely related to Bowser than the Koopa Kids but are still ultimately just working for Bowser, and Bowser Jr. is Bowser's blood child. King Koopas probably reproduce in a special way only when they reach full adulthood so as to carry on the lineage, potentially asexually, and due to the rarity of King Koopas and the lack of parents in Bowser's life, he probably just doesn't know how King Koopas reproduce and genuinely doesn't know Bowser Jr. has no mom. I don't think Bowser ever had parents in his life, rather that the 'prince' title in Partners in Time is due to either Kamek declaring he's not fit to be called king at such a young immature age or that Bowser himself just went through a phase where he preferred to be called one or the other. I think Partners in Time definitely came after Yoshi's Island though
Probably Kuppas/Bowsers and not a Koopas because Koopas/Koopa Troopas are NokoNokos. Kuppas, NokoNokos, Lakitus, Spinys, and Buzzy Beetles are all called Turtles. So they are a species of turtles not Koopas. Bowser Junior is stated to be Bowser's only son, not blood related son. They don't need to reproduce on account of the storks.
4:20 there are couple of species of Lizards/animals that do not need a mate to reproduce and I hate that no one talks about this potential fact. Most likely Bowser reproduced Jr Asexually considering HE IS A LITERAL CLONE OF BOWSER.
@@cbfranco3307 Well the Paper Mario universe does appear to be a separate universe to the main Mario universe which was pretty much confirmed in Paper Jam, (even then it just might be only for the Paper Mario universe from Sticker Star onwards) although the Star Spirits do exist in the main Mario universe as confirmed by Mario Party 5 so it’s not an impossibility.
No matter what, the 7 Koopalings will always be Bowser's kids to me, even if adopted. Nintendo can't stay consistent so I'm going with what they first established, and nothing will change my mind lol
Nintendo is really consistent with it,. Since the Koopalings were only stated to be his kids in the manuals it was a really easy retcon. Since then they have made it clear the Koopalings are not Bowser's kids at all, and that Bowser Junior is Bowser's only son. Whether it be making the Koopalings too old to be Bowser's kids, Bowser beating up Iggy, the Koopalings calling Bowser boss and Junior Lord, or even calling the Koopalings Bowser Junior's friends. It is very well established and consistent and interwoven into several games. Now the Koopalings are only Bowser's kids in non canon comics and fan works.
@Eris1987 Why are you under practically every comment, are you like...living on this video ready to say something to anyone who mentions Bowser's kids lol
@@Eris1987 I never said there was an issue, just asking if you were living on this video because it looks like you keep coming back due to how many times you've commented to other people lol
That would make a lot of sense, seeing how spoiled he already was as a child.
I was thinking to same thing tbh LOL
That also ties into the fact that Yoshi's Island technically predates the "birth" of the Mario Bros, as the stork is intercepted while carrying them.
I’ve seen theories that Bowser’s brother is the mysterious father of the Koopalings, therefore also making him the elusive Morton Koopa Sr.
It makes sense. His name can’t be “Bowser’s Brother”.
Morton "Bruce" Koopa Sr.
This is my interpretation.
I think an easy solution to all of this if Nintendo wanted to sort out Bowsers family tree:
Reintroduce Bowser having a brother, who would be Morton Koopa Sr, as we know Morton the Koopaling is also a Jr. The Koopalings would be Morton Sr's children, making them Bowser Jrs Cousins. They're nobility as they're part of the Royal Blood, but not the heirs.
Then the Koopa Kids from the Mario Party games could just be members of the same species and are hired Mercenaries.
This has been my headcanon for years, so glad somebody agrees with me.
@@KairanFarr That's actually my personal headcanon, that he got the idea to do it after getting wrapped up in the shenanigans of PiT.
"We've never seen Bowser have a normal relationship with a woman before." Wow, don't let Bowser hear that one! 😂
A few more notes about Bowser's Brother:
- The reason the guides singled out the Blue Bowser is because in two of the stages he appears in (8-4 and 9-4) he doesn't turn into an enemy when defeated.
- Despite the blue coloration being a partial side-effect of Bowser not being at the bridge, Super Mario All-Stars apparently has an unused palette for Bowser that gives him the blue coloring, so they may have seriously considered keeping Bowser's bro around
- The notion of Bowser's brother being a blue version of him sounds absurd, but remember: Luigi for the first few years of his creation was basically a Green Mario.
A bowser game where he his in his shadow the hedgehog phase and becomes an anti hero
Imagine if Bowser's Brother shows up in whatever the Odyssey equivalent for the Switch 2 will be. That'd be cool
@@CalamitasCalliopethat would be cool. Maybe in a game called Super Koopa Bros, where bowser and his brother are anti heroes like shadow the hedgehog
Unlikely because the Koopalings aren't related to Bowser, in addition Bowser's Brother is a pallete swap glitch.
Though a cool idea for fan works.
Yeah, sorry about this..."
That would also go nicely with his original appearance: he was called in as a last-ditch effort to stop mario when he was tearing through the very last castle, was swiftly defeated, and hasn't been asked to help with anything for the next like 40 years
@@Eris1987 i dont think nintendo ever explicitly said the koopalings werent related to bowser, they just said the koopalings werent his kids. also, just because bowser's brother is the result of palette inconsistencies, that doesnt make him not canon. he could easily have become a reoccurring and indisputably canon character if nintendo wanted him to
The term for his family is essentially royal tribe. It is implied Bowser, the Koopalings, and other "major" members like Bombom are part of a more elite sub-species deonted by their distinctive shells.
In my headcannon, every instance of dry Bowser being separate from the normal one is bowser brother.
Yeah that's a common theory, as Dry Bowser in one of the last Olympic games said he considered Bowser as "somewhat a family member"
@@antoniopriego5660 which Olympic games and where?
It isn't, and it's always Bowser excluding the Bubble Clone.
I saw a bunch of it on sites like DeviantArt growing up
Yeah, Bowser Junior probably doesn't have a mother.
@@Eris1987why
How do you know Jr wasn't born before the games?
@@Eris1987a baby would still need a mother and father. So either Bowser Jr's mum is dead, an ex girlfriend Bowser had or a fling Bowser had (since Bowser is not married or divorced) or Bowser cloned himself and Bowser Jr was born
Partners in time can't be before yoshis island because of the Mario brothers. The baby bros are already running around and "born" whereas the plot of island is that they're being delivered. And they obviously can't do anything for themselves
Maybe baby Bowser is called king in island because he likes pretending. Maybe he demands to be called king in his younger years and nanny kamek is just playing along
Baby Bowser is legally a king, but functionally a prince. Kamek acts as regent in his stead.
You forgot to mention that Bowser's mother appears in the MS-DOS version of Mario's Time Machine Deluxe.
Yeah, how could he forget that!
It is a high likelihood that game isn't canon.
I still like to think the Koopalings are still Bowser's children.

They aren't, Bowser Junior is Bowser's only son.
The Miyamoto thing was a joke and Bowser Junior probably doesn't have a mother.

I like them. The koopalings NEEDED to be in more stuff.
Koopalings should’ve been in jamboree and if not as playable characters, then as boss fights
the Koopalings deserve to become regular characters on par with everyone else, they are the perfect antagonists and should've 100% replaced the weird rabbit guys from Odyssey
@@Eris1987nice headcanon, it's a shame storks only deliver to mothers or mother's and fathers
I genuinely wonder how you came ti the conclusion of PiT being before Yoshi's Island, when the Brothers are literally delivered by the stork at the beginning of the game and Peach likely wasnt even born yet.
He probably hasn't played one or the other when it comes to the games.
It's a bit sad to think about, but it's possible that Bowser had adopted the Koopalings at some point before Super Mario Bros 3, but disowned them once he was able to have a son of his own by Sunshine
He wouldn't have.
We all know that Shigeru Miyamoto is Bowser Jr’s canonical biological mother
I've always liked the headcannon that the koopalings are bowser's children, but they're adopted rather than being blood related like bowser jr.
It's never stated Bowser Junior is blood related, it only says he is Bowser's only son, this means the Koopalings can't be adopted.
Bowser is the perfect specimen
I've always liked the idea that Bowser's Brother is the father of the Koopalings, giving reason both for why they're close to Bowser in some way, and for why they disappeared for a while. (Bowser had his own son, he has less time to babysit). Also of note, while Blue Bowser was given normal Bowser colors in All-Stars, the blue colors have unused sprites in the game.
As for the Koopa Kids, idunno. Maybe they're child actors.
I always thought Bowser Jr's bandana was a bib at first when I was younger xD lol
They lack any mention of being NokoNokos or Bunbuns
However, they do have mention of the being referred to as Kuppas.
Which makes sense they do have those traits of being decently large and able to spit fire for example.
My theory is this:
Kamek took a koopa and made him into a prince, and essentially took over the kingdom and inserted a whole fake monarchy into the kingdom.
No the Kuppa monarchy had been a thing for awhile.
I feel like he takes these kids in and they grow up and then end up just working for him.
Bowser goes through relatives like tissues
Short theory
Bowser’s Brother’s name is Morton Koopa Sr. And he’s the father of the Koopalings, but now he’s dead and became King Boo
Explanation
In king boos first appearance he tells Luigi that trapping the bros in paintings is his revenge “for all the trouble they’ve caused him” despite their being no proof of the bros causing him trouble.
I’ve always thought that Bowser Jr was a clone of Bowser created by Kamek, but Bowser felt bad that he didn’t have a mother so he told him that Peach was her
Unlikely.
However, Bowser could have wished for a son when he had the Star Rod.
Morton koopa Jr implies the existence of a Morton koopa Sr
Bowser and his family are actually same species as other Koopa sub species .. but I’d say they have total blood which makes them look different
In terms of his family , I simply put it as :
- bowser mom or dad died or was dethroned and banished
- Kamek was bowsers father figure
- Koopalings and bowser are all siblings from different moms ( sometimes the same mom) because he’s a king and got with some Koopa females. They carry bowser blood so they resemble him
- blue bowser is bowsers brother who was killed or shunned or something or abandoned his post ( maybe turned into dry bowser ).
3 tv show it's implied that Larry (called Cheatsy) is the heir to the throne
This could have been still a thing if Miyamoto didn't retcon the Koopalings not being Bowser's kids at all, as they could have just been adopted, with Larry only being the heir temporarily until Bowser Jr. was born (hatched? idk it's a turtle).
No cause the Supershow isn't canon.
The way I see, and this is based off their most recent interpretations,
Bowser is a legitimate king (he was probably called a king when he only spoke like a baby because of a mistake they made of telling him of his inheritance too soon, so he only understood the concept of a prince when he matured a little bit beore PiT) whose parents we have no idea about (obviously).

We see it in Bowser Junior's Journey
"Lord Bowser's only son."
And it is established in Bowser Jr.'s description on the Official Nintendo Website.
"The only son of Bowser, the King of the Koopas."
You are still someone's son even if you are adopted, and there is no language used to say Junior is the only biological son, just that he is Bowser's Only Son.
@@Eris1987 ok fine sure, I’m still headcanoning them as Adopted
Also where's that description of Lost Levels as a parallel world from, out of curiosity?
I think bowser and the kooplings are just regular Koopas enhanced with kameks magic over time and that’s why u never see any other of them ever
Kuppas are not Koopas(NokoNokos) enhanced by Magic. Plus we have seen Koopas are enhanced by magic before anyways aka Hookbill.
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island(Super Mario: Yoshi's Island)
Yoshi's New Island
Yoshi's Island DS
Mario & Luigi: Partner In Time(Mario & Luigi RPG 2) (Past Sections)
Game & Watch Gallery 2: Vermin
Yoshi Story
Yoshi's Crafted World(Yoshi Craft World) and Yoshi's Woolly World(Yoshi Wool World)
Mario Superstar Baseball also acknowledges Bowser lied as well.
King Bowser Sr. , Prince Bowser Jr. , the Koopa Kids, Bowser's Brothers, and the Koopalings are all "Dragon Koopas".
No just Kuppas aka a species of turtles just like NokoNokos are turtles.
@Eris1987 Kappa don't breathe fire, Slick.
@Eris1987 He's a Dragon TURTLE
@Yamauma-No.10 what game, manual, or dev interview says that?
Or in other words, citation needed.
Just a correction
Myamoto does infact know who bowser junior's mother is
And it is infact shingeru myamoto himself
Yes myamoto the mom of bowser junior
What I have found is that Morton Koopa Sr is the father of Bowser and Divili Koopa with Bowser being the father f Bowser Jr. and Divili being the father of Ludwig, Roy, Wendy, Morton Jr, iggy, Lemmy, and Larry koopa
I just found this channel and I really like it! :)
Happy to hear that!
_"King Bowser's only son."_
We see it in Bowser Junior's Journey
_"Lord Bowser's only son."_
And it is established in Bowser Jr.'s description on the Official Nintendo Website.
_"The only son of Bowser, the King of the Koopas."_
And you are still someone's son if you are adopted.
Princess Peach is so much better than me because I would choose him.
I heard somewere that in one of mario & luigi games the koopalings refer to bowser as dad or father and that was after nintendo confirmed that the koopalings weren't bowser children, I honestly don't think it was a mistake by the writers so maybe they just are adopted, or they just treat bowser as their father.
They aren't, and they can't be adopted.
@@cbfranco3307 can you get a source for that for me?
In addition that is probably a joke about like the Bubble Clone Dry Bowser milk joke.

Lore of The Bizarre History of Bowser's Family momentum 100
I sometime wonder if Bowser is both male and female at the same time, it would explain why there is no mother in the first place, which means other than being the father, he is also a mother.
Irrelevant overall since Junior would have been delivered by stork.
Ive heard rumors that dry Bowser is actually an undead relative of bowser idk if its true or not
He isn't, that rumor is based on line that is a localization error about a Bubble Clone of Dry Bowser.
The one thing that I hate about modern Mario games (since Smash 4) is that they retconned Bowser's Brother.
My thoughts summarized:
Bowser and the Koopalings etc are a species called 'King Koopas', that are stronger and much rarer than other Koopa variants, so much so that most of them are closely related and/or know each other.
No need because babies int he Mario world are delivered by storks.
Peach is his mother.
The koopalings are children but they are bastards
With only Jr being legitimate
No, Bowser Junior is Bowser's only son.
Also, Bowser is like in his 20s and Roy has attended Night School.
@Eris1987 no as lemmy koopas mom I know bowser is the father
@@Eris1987 shut up about the night school, we get it
What if the koopalings are all half siblings
They aren;t
Bowser must have had a wife at some point. Did his wife die giving birth to Bowser Jr. or something? Because we have no idea what happened to her.
Kuppas don't give birth or lay eggs, their offspring is delivered by stork.
Storks: "-_- we really get no credit around here do we?"
@ Huh well I think I forgot about that involving the Yoshi’s Island series and all that. Still Bowser Jr. likely does have a mother.
@@Mario87456 My personal head canon is that Jr was created using the Star Rod, when Bowser had it in Paper Mario 1.
I choose to believe the Koopalings are related to Bowser, just not direct descendants like Jr is.
They aren't related
4:28 ai
My theory is that Bowser either cloned himself or he can reproduce asexually
Unlikely, storks deliver the Babies in the Mario world.

woot woot,
Freezeflame22 has a whole family tree and it’s so long check it out on his wiki
Hes literally called king bowser??
