A beautiful piece of Cork Railway history and the commentary including the staff names is very well done. Thank you very much for sharing this lovely film.
Billy Maher.
I grew up not far from here and have happy memories of seeing the train regularly.Lovely to have it preserved on film.
thanks for this , i was only 12 in 1975, now 57 i wish the old days were back.
great piece of film, the diddly eye music adds an air of authentic nostalgia to it all
That is a fascinating and unique piece of footage of a goods train negotiating it way through street traffic.
Thank you for uploading this.
Back in the day when we almost owned our country.
Great film, my late Uncle David O'Connor worked for CIE and took me around the yard when I was just 12.
Brilliant film. Year of my birth too
I am a driver with Irish Rail and I learned the road with Mick he was a gent. the day before he passed away we crossed in Cork with the Ammonia trains and that was the last I saw of him until I heard the sad news the next morning. There is photos of him on my facebook page and I one photo of Dan as well. Hope you are all well Tom Ryan.
Great video, delighted I found it, thanks Tom, not a vizzy in sight 😂

Brilliant thanks for sharing 👍🏻☘️
Beautiful film Tom, I have happy memories of going over to the Bandaon on a train with either my father Paddy O' Shea or Marty Donoghue. Mick Cronin (Monica) was a gent and his brother Dan was pure class.
Very nice footage and thank you for sharing this.
Great clip, seems like yesterday 😳
brilliant, thanks for uploading
Great video.
Yes I am still , I was an office messenger at Cork Goods and I used to have the Cine with me going to the Albert Quay Offices.
FANTASTIC VIDEO TOM WELL DONE
If we had digital that time it would be so much bettter.
Sad that those relatively young men have passed away.
Wow, this is one hell of a find. Can I ask, were you a CIE man yourself?
He did not Irish Rail was winding down the Freight anyway as there was huge losses so he was a handy scapegoat. The Freight now is been operated by IWT who lease the Locos and wagons from Irish Rail and do all the handling and in turn lease the wagon space to container customers.
I remember the train going through the city. Why the hell did they dig up the Cork/Bandon line and jam the place with cars and crap. Ireland really went backwards in the last 40 years and now look at the cost of a simple thing like motoring!!! Sickening!
All the closed railway lines throughout Ireland should be reopened to stop traffic jams, car accidents/road death and pollution. No further closed railway closed be converted into greenways there should be relocated to near the river's, lakes, seas, beaches and tourist points. After Christmas I believe that there should be St Stephen's Day trains or 24 hour trains in summertime only.
All permanent way is gone.
Is the permanent way gone completely
Brendan Ogle destroyed the rail freight in Ireland, he is some bollocks!
