- We see everything from Delaware Lackawanna Alco’s, Steamtown equipment displays, Electric City Trolley excursion on 1926 Brill car, and live steam on the Scranton Limited. There is something to see for everyone at this Pennsylvania landmark. 6/23/22-6/24/22
Love the broad smile on the woman in front of you on the trolley
Love the MLW M420 in action! The extra ditch lights give it a look unlike any other North American locomotive I've seen. Maybe one day you'll be able to take a train directly from New York to Scranton, if the Amtrak expansion plan is put into action.
very cool to see those old Alco's still earning their keep. excellent content as always
great video. Thanks for the tour......I must point out at the end of the video, the Baldwin Locomotive works 0-6-0 was not built by the competitor Alco! :) Love seeing the trolley stuff too. Fantastic. :)
9:40; I'm glad consider the GTW one of your favorite rail roads. I grew up near the Holly division in Royal Oak Michigan.
Very enjoyable & educational video!
Awesome array of diesel, steam and electric trains!! Love the electric trolley!! I've ridden a similar trolley.
Thank you RR for a fabulous review!! 😀💚💚
The dark red broad st subway when it came southbound coming to city hall was a scary sound in the 70s
Loved your railfan window footage through that impressive stretch of forest and the growl of the traction motors' gearing. Looks like a pretty steep descent!
Thanks for the trip back in time. We lived in Scranton in the 70's-80's and we saw Steamtown grow from a field of weeds to a railroad treasure. You did a great job on the video. Keep up the good work.
It's no longer a field of weeds but now looks like Naporano Scrap Yard. NPS is a complete failure. Can't get any locomotives running chase volunteers away. The current park superintendent is a complete typical government joke.
so nice to see 4012!!!! i grew up with that
Retired Railfan thank you for all the great videos . The grand and mysterious RUclips suggestion algorithm offer up this and I thought it might intrigue you.
Love those Reading FP7s! I live in the Poconos and need to get to Steamtown, haven't been there in a while. Neat that's it's a possibility that Amtrak could restore service between NYC and Scranton. The closest station to me would be Mt Pocono. Granted, this would be years down the road, but something to look forward to! Oh, that Lackawanna F3 was at the Streamliners at Spencer event in NC in May 2014. That was a great one of a kind collection of classic cab units in one place, probably never to be repeated again! So glad I got to make it. Enjoy your videos!
Rode that 1926 Red Arrow trolley a few years ago.
Thanks so much for the Steamtown video. Having grown up in Scranton, my grandfather would take me down to the station where we’d we watch the trains coming thru from Buffalo, and in the winter many of the cars still had snow. Left the area in ‘64 but always wondered how the place was doing, especially since we have no passenger trains here in Phoenix.
Great to see 759 looking sharp. Fondly remember High Iron excursions out of Hoboken in the early 1970s. 759 will likely never run again, but sisters live on in revenue (tourist) service.
Tim, I rode on those J. G. Brill center door cars many times on the Red Arrow. What you call "pumps" is the air compressor. Most of the sound you hear when the car is in motion is coming from the gears, not the traction motors. I'm impressed that the conductor gave the proper name for the "Add-More" seats. All Red Arrow broad gauge cars had them. In fact, SEPTA's modern double end Kawasaki trolleys on their Suburban Division have Add-More seats to this day.
You didn't mention the Brill patent "De-Denda Alarm Gong" operated by the motorman with a round foot pedal button on the floor. He strikes his heel on the button. They are mechanical, not electrical or air operated.
Traction motors sound just like CTA'S 4000 SERIES L CARS did in the subway as well as on the surface. The wooden CTA L CARS also sounded identical to these Scranton Museum cars.
Also the old Pullman -Standard dark green IC MUs sounded identical to these cars built 1926-1929. Likewise the Old South Shore Line Pullman -Standard cars built 1926-1929 the traction motors sound identical as well!
That’s funny,
I’m going there tomorrow!
It's hard to articulate how impressed (and appreciative) I am of your seemingly "infinite" knowledge of "all things" pertaining to railroads! Question: Do you know which South African Steam Locomotive had more traction power than the Schenectady NY ALCO 4-8-8-4's? Sorry if you already answered this. Anyhow, great stuff as usual (as with all of your videos)! I was wondering if it was the South African Class GL 4-8-2+2-8-4 (just to show I am not being lazy ;-) )
Whistle blowing in tunnel is to warn "visitors" of train's presence, right? Good tour.
I enjoyed that video👍👍
Do you remember The Milwaukie Road and Their Transcontinental Railroad From Avery In Idaho to Drexel Montana over St Paul's Pass Retired Railfan? That was home to the EF-4's Or Little Joes
Sure do
Did I hear this right that the old loco shops are nearby but used by another company/agency?
I got Bill Murray vibe also
I’m not crazy then 😂😂
5:47 If you happen to be local on the Island, you can totally honk my EX LIRR K5LA from a GP38. A day can be arranged for that to happen!
I am
awesome catch , new subscriber
What caused the Lackawanna Railroad to out of business?
Merged with Erie to become EL and then dissolved into Conrail
Cool
I do want to go. I missed train fest. Rain
I heard it wasn’t as popular as in years past. It was better years ago when they had lots of visiting equipment from other railroads attend. Nowadays either they can’t get the equipment or they aren’t aggressive enough to get it.
Wasn't 26 built by BLW?
Alot of power on the train. Why so much: heavy grades, heavy loads?
1.2% grade out of Scranton
Honk if you love trains!
Hey, you said my name my name is Kingston😂 but you might see the account saying Reva but that’s my mom‘s second account
Doesn't that bell irritate anyone!! Bugs me. Just because of a minority of very ignorant , irresponsible and impatient car and truck drivers.
