While watching the video, she reminded me of my own black GSD, Sophie! They are so smart and I don't think the eye contact was bothering her, it looked like she was weirded out by trying to figure out who you were talking to because you were the only one in there and looking off into a corner where she couldn't see anything or anyone. She even did the head tilt like "what is this goofy guy doing". Mine does the same thing when I tell her that our black kitten is her actual birth baby. She tilts her head like, "wait, what?"

Oh poor sweet gorgeous Dutch Shepherd & Blk GSD mix! Highly intelligent & loyal to owner -- needs structure, training, & exercise activity. Your male doppelganger is sitting on couch next to me watching this on East Coast. Fabulous breed X for scentwork, obedience, therapy work, etc. They want to touch you/lean into you and be right next to you day & night. Those observant eyes. Lovely. ❤ Mix appears Dutchie because white chest blaze & slender muzzle with GSD calm watchful demeanor. Wishing her the Best home. Lucy is heartbroken but it can be turned around.

This black Sheppard is absolutely beautiful. Not only that , but SMART! Her attention to every detail is unbelievable in her circumstance. I've never seen such intelligence actually oozing from a dog before. She is so, so sad. She has no idea what she did wrong 😢. I would love to love her so much. She's full of love you can tell. Good luck Lucy!
I wish i could take all these babies home… I’ve never bought any of my babies.. All strays .. cats and dogs off the streets.. Makes me cry to see these poor dogs going through this
...she'd already endured the bewildering changes and "chaos" that accompanies a death in the family and as a puppy must have been so painful: that in itself, but then to lose her "buddy," the deceased gentleman and then be returned to the shelter and abandoned by the widow... all too overwhelming... such a pretty shepherd...
She is such a beautiful soul. Reminds me of my service dog who was all black. The difference is she was Akita / Wolf cross. I adopted her from a shelter back in 2005 as she was only 8 months old, and was on the E-List. She lived to be almost 19 which she passed last year (2023). The most beautiful soul in the world.
Rocky, do you go back and visit with the dog afterwards? I just wondered bc once the dog opens up, then you leave, maybe the dog will get sad again, thinking that they lost you too.😮😢
Lucy is just gorgeous! I wish my husband wasn't allergic to dogs because she is exactly what I would go for. I currently have an all bllack cockapoo that needs a buddy. I prefer the black dogs honestly. There are gorgeous dogs of all colors, but black ones just steal my hear. Praying she get s adopted to her forever home much sooner than later. You're a good girl Lucy!
She was already starting to change (her body was relaxing, ears were calmer) while You were sitting there just talking. Having company seems to have helped a lot
Yes! There were so many times in my younger life where I wish someone had told me I was a good girl, this wasn't my fault, and I was loved. It would have saved thousands of dollars in counseling sessions.
I drove over 2 hours to rescue my shepherd by Chicago. Zara. Such a beautiful girl. She was with me for 12+ years. When she passed she was almost 14. I miss her so much 😔
@user-xg1zp6lw5u grief is the price we pay for love. Thank you for rescuing a dog. You are a kind soul. When you're ready, please look for another dog to rescue and give a good life. There's a loving dog out there waiting for you to give him/her a chance. ❤️
Kendall…Yes, love and trust! This is thee best documented session I have ever seen of sitting and reading a dog and finding out so much about the dog! I am so glad to have seen this. How dogs need love, trust, purpose, and affection! And that they need to be reminded of these things. Wow, in this video, Rocky made all this so very clear!!
She is beautiful and I know that you are helping but now she has gained your trust and you will leave her also and I believe that will make her sad again and have to go through the trust process again (I feel so sad for her and the owner) it's like gaining the trust of a human, hopefully you will continue to visit her every once in a while to uplift her day until she is adopted. Thanks for all your support and have a wonderful Day.
I think she's already adopted...I just tried searching for her again to show my family. She was there earlier in the day but is gone now. I'm glad...I hope she found a family that will love her forever.
As I'm sure you know, dogs mourn the loss of their owner deeply, Crying is not unusual. I feel for Lucy, hope you can get her adopted. SHe is soooo beautiful and loving
I ❤ Lucy. I am so sad for her owner. I had a family member in a similar situation - husband's sudden illness and death. She had to move very soon after he passed, too. It was devastating. I am thankful that Lucy was able to come to Animal Friends of the Valley. She WILL get another loving home now.
My friend has a black Shepard service dog. They have such a wonderful bond. When I call her, he comes running to say hi too! I can always tell when they’ve been “fighting” (he didn’t do what he should and got in trouble) well… he starts barking away like he’s telling me his side of the story! It cracks me up!
What an extraordinary animal. Young, alone, and likely confused about its circumstances, yet calm and well-behaved. I pray Lucy finds the home such an obviously good dog deserves.
'Scared and stoic'... reminds me of our beloved Jenny, black and sable GSD. She was last littermate, one year old but not socialized. Our beloved Jenny who became our beloved fur gal who graced us with her dignified/focused presence for 16 yrs. ❤
I have a friend that rescued a male pitbull from a shelter. The dog was in the shelter for 2 years. They both were perfect for each other. We drove our friend to pick up the dog and the drive was an hour to get to the shelter. It was well worth it to bring them both together.
Kids should be raised with animals. Dogs are so special !! In the beginning wild dogs watched humans and learned human facial expressions over time before humans had dogs. Wolves don't have facial expressions with eyebrows !! ALL ANIMALS ARE AMAZING !!
Lucy was perking up her ears listening to you talking about 15 min after you entered her room. She felt your kindness and leadership. You got a friend!
Oh yes! Lucy, such a great doggie. Through watching this video with Rocky and Lucy, it is so clear to see the wonderful companion and dedicated friend Lucy will be! I hope the new owner will see this video!
Pretty Lady! You're so lucky to have met Rocky because, Lucy, he can help speed up the process and get you into the home of your dreams. The number of people who get to see you and hear your story is unlimited, and everyone will fall in love with that gorgeous face. 😍
She has been watching and listening to you Rocky since you entered her space. She ate a piece of the treat a long time ago. You just could not see her. She has been listening to you just like you are talking to her all along Rocky. Oh, oh Lucy is such a Sweetie pie and she is a wonderful dog Rocky. She is so beautiful and I already love her so much. I wish my husband would let me have her so much but he won't here of it and neither will my bossy 14 yrs. old kitty. I had a Shepherd, pure white named Lady. She has been gone over the rainbow bridge over 25 years now but I miss her so much still. Thank you so much Rocky for sitting with Lucy.
A friend of mine lost her father and her mother was having hip issues and had to move in with her. The dog belonged to the husband who passed away. They wanted to rehome the dog because mom couldn’t care for her with her bad hip. He was very sad, but we took him in and he is loved and cared for. This is always a bad situation for the dog but also heartbreaking for 5he family giving them up. Thank you for what you do.
My last three dogs , over the last 25 yrs, have always been the sad ones in the corner. The best dogs. I dont know how you leave the shelter, I would be blubbering like crazy because I cant take them all home.
To the adopter of Lucy: Please be the forever home Lucy has always wanted and needed. Be kind to her, love her unconditionally as she will love you. Make life beautiful for her and she will do the same for you. You have a precious treasure worth more than gold. I wish you and Lucy abundant happiness and love for a lifetime. Thank you for being there for Lucy.
I hope you know that its not only tge dogs your bringing happiness to. I get such a wave of joy watching your videos from just knowing that your out there helping these poor dogs who have had a crappy life. I end up in tears too. But thats a temporary reaction to what the dogs have gone through. The joy lasts for long time after watching. Thank you dude. Your such an amazing person. Peace, love and prosperity to you.
I want to tell a short story about sadness. In February of 2021 my husband died. I knew that I would be sad but I didn’t want to just sit and dwell upon losing the object of my affection. So I adopted a tuxedo kitten. He belonged to my stepdaughter and when she was holding him he was whining and complaining and two other ladies tried to soothe him but he didn’t want to have anything to do with them. But when she brought him to me he curled up in my arms and went straight to sleep. When I brought him to sleep in my bed he came up to my face and gave me kisses for a good 30 seconds on my lips and I knew that God had made him for me. He made my grief a lot easier to handle.
Have to put my 17 y/o puppy to rest today in about 2 hours. She was diagnosed with a brain tumor 5 years ago and given 2 years to live. She beat her odds by 3 years with medication but she is now almost deaf and blind and has become incontinent. She was 7 when we got her and has given our family 10 long happy years. Please I implore anyone thinking of getting a pet go and get a rescue dog as you will not regret it. Thank you Rocky for what you are doing, you Sir are a hero to these dogs and to me. 💖
I'm so sorry 😞. It is heartbreaking 💔. It's the part of being a pet owner , I dread . All my cats lived to 17-20yrs old . They will always be in my heart ❤️ Hugs 🫂
It's so hard to have to say goodbye to our friends. You did the absolute best for her and helped her to thrive for far longer than the veterinarians expected. She was blessed to have you just as much as we are blessed to have our dog friends in our lives.
Lucy is such a beautiful Shepard.. I grew up with shepards, and still to this day (am 63) have them. I so wish I lived closer as I would adopt her in a second. Thank you Rocky for sitting with Lucy and showing what a special and wonderful pup she is!❤❤❤❤
The poor lady. My parents gave my dog away when I was nine years old. Sixty one years on, I still can't quite forgive them. It is still the saddest thing that ever happened to me. To lose her husband and then her dog must e dreadful for her. Please Rocky, do a pup date when Lucy is adopted, her Mom might see it and feel better about giving her up. Wish Lucy could cross the ocean to move in with us.
I'm so sorry that happened to you. My parents didn't care about my or my brother or sister's feelings and got rid of our pets several times. We were heartbroken every time. They were horrible people.
Me too. I was about 10 and my dog just disappeared. I looked everywhere for him. I am 87, years old now and it was only about 15 years ago my brother told me what happened to my dog. My father had taken him and had given him to my uncle. His brother, who lived about 50 miles away. We rarely saw him. He was like a hermit. Now that I know what they did, i'll never forgive them for that. But truth be told there are many things I'll never forgive

Me, as well
All my pets were strays.
I’m so sorry for Lucy, not understanding why she was abandoned. It sounds like it was a painful decision for her owner.
...she'd already endured the bewildering changes and "chaos" that accompanies a death in the family and as a puppy must have been so painful: that in itself, but then to lose her "buddy," the deceased gentleman and then be returned to the shelter and abandoned by the widow... all too overwhelming... such a pretty shepherd...
That poor woman lost her husband and now she has had to lose her dog too. My heart goes out to her, and to Lucy. May they both find comfort and love.

I just wondered bc once the dog opens up, then you leave, maybe the dog will get sad again, thinking that they lost you too.😮😢
Lucy is amazingly calm and quiet for a puppy.
That's true. Her head is resting her head on her paws.

Watching you sit with Lucy made me cry. She is such a sweet soul. So grateful for your work and for her being adopted.
Wow, she's beginning to trust you. She becoming affectionate. I'm so glad you're helping her.
I'd love to see everyone show the kind of empathy Rocky has for this lovely Shepherd. To humans and pets alike.

To see her put her chin on your leg was EVERYTHING. What a sweet girl...she just needs love and patience and someone she can trust.❤❤❤

I ❤ Lucy.
I am so sad for her owner. I had a family member in a similar situation - husband's sudden illness and death. She had to move very soon after he passed, too. It was devastating. I am thankful that Lucy was able to come to Animal Friends of the Valley. She WILL get another loving home now.
Shepherds are so loyal , so smart and so emotional. You will always know how your Shepherd feels. They can’t hide their emotions.
Can confirm...my girl is amazing but so attached and so complicated.
100%, mine is always attached
My friend has a black Shepard service dog. They have such a wonderful bond. When I call her, he comes running to say hi too! I can always tell when they’ve been “fighting” (he didn’t do what he should and got in trouble) well… he starts barking away like he’s telling me his side of the story! It cracks me up!
What an extraordinary animal. Young, alone, and likely confused about its circumstances, yet calm and well-behaved. I pray Lucy finds the home such an obviously good dog deserves.
She is watching the people because shes looking for her mom. So sad. Shes so beautiful. You did a great job.
She’s so alert. And I think she’s coming around quickly. So beautiful…
'Scared and stoic'... reminds me of our beloved Jenny, black and sable GSD. She was last littermate, one year old but not socialized. Our beloved Jenny who became our beloved fur gal who graced us with her dignified/focused presence for 16 yrs. ❤
That is a long time for a GSD. We have had 4. Ours made it 11-12 years. They are a blessing.
She's beautiful
I have a friend that rescued a male pitbull from a shelter. The dog was in the shelter for 2 years. They both were perfect for each other. We drove our friend to pick up the dog and the drive was an hour to get to the shelter. It was well worth it to bring them both together.

❤❤❤

She's already been adopted.
Nice thought she s Beautiful😊
