I'm glad they at least listened to me and made the Generations nacelle greeble removable. You shouldn't include it on your model if you are making the TNG version of the Enterprise D. You'll just have to fill in the area and make sure to get the nav light working. The scale nerd in me wants this too. In fact, I wish all the Enterprises C and later were in 1000 to match the Polar Lights/AMT ships. It's hard enough living with WWII aircraft in 1/32 and armor in 1/35.
The D is nice in 1:1000 scale. The only kit currently available, and only on the secondary market, is not a kit for the faint of heart... there's a lot of work to do. So a better kit would be wonderful.
Indeed, and that seems to be the go to for most builders as the 1:1400 scale does not include them molded in, and the 1:1000 scale Shoko kit, though molded in, has no way to get light to them.
@@CanadianStarships I did manage it on my 1000 scale D but was hit and miss so didn’t open up many. Had hoped the same coverage would work for nav lights but that wasn’t successful. They gave the model a full refresh for Generations. They didn't think it was good enough as it was for the big screen. Ironically, they then went and added stock footage of the ship from the show in a couple of spots!

Opened mine up, some similar issues: top of the neck's spine where it meets/overlaps the saucer is missing/cut off at a weird angle (may have happened during sanding - though with the way the saucer is designed I should be able to use some sheet styrene to replicate that bit of "spine"). The deflector insert is a bit of a mess on mine, its missing the detail on about 40% of it, like a bad casting. It has a bit of warp as well - but not enough I couldn't fix it. Not sure what I'll do there yet but may reach out to them and see if I can get it replaced, otherwise it will need to get commissioned through a 3D modeler and printer All the negatives aside, this is an incredible bit of kit. Super smooth, details in the right place and so far I hadn't spot things that seem way off. I'm very happy and given the "garage kit" nature I was expecting a couple speedbumps. I'm very curious how people will handle the windows - on their builds they just backed them, but given the deep nature of the resin framing and casting, that means giving up off-angle transmission of light. Hopefully I can work out a way to fill them with a clear/diffuse material to help get the look of the original model (which had its windows done in a similar way to how we've done them on the old 1400 kits)
I know someone else has the same deflector dish issue as you do. Looking at my kit, the part on the spine is very thin, may have snapped off during transit. Contact Helios and let them know your issues. I'm sure they will do their very best to help.
@@CanadianStarships they definitely are - already replied and they’re on the deflector issue. One thing that has really stood out is how they treat every customer like a partnership, collaborative and invested. Really refreshing and I know that will go a long way into the end result.
@@CanadianStarships I’m starting the notorious AMT 537 scale now, and not only is it poorly engineered, but I can’t really seem to get the details the way I want it. For example, such a small scale I have to manually put in the running lights for the dorsal section and the pylons attached to warp nacelles. I can imagine such a beautiful ship as the refit would look excellent in this scale.
@@CanadianStarships oh, I know. I’m doing it because I had a ST:VI version for Christmas as a kid that drove me nuts and I never finished it. I’m finally going to get to built it right.
Looks great - thank you for the video! I'm part of the 2nd run, so I'll report on the lower saucer window gaps and small things like that, as well as the deflector dish. I'm as pleased as you were to see how they engineered the pylon and secondary hull join areas, and keeping the saucer rim intact as one piece
I think that it's too late for those corrections on the second run, but I think they will correct those issues for the third run, but I would very much like to see how the second run kits look in comparison, so please do post!
The kit looks really well designed, other than those few teething issues you've already mentioned. Interestingly, Helios have designed the upper secondary hull almost exactly the same way the original filming model casts were designed - cast as one piece. The only difference is the upper surface of the nacelle pylon wing was also part of the originals, rather than being separate as Helios have done, and the deflector housing was separate.
I do like how the saucer edge is all one part. Much cleaner than some other kits. The 1K kit was a nightmare to get the saucers to go together. I've wondered if I could create some sort of way to use screws and a lighting gadget to secure the top saucer down to the lower saucer so it can be opened if necessary. I'll have to think that one through.
@@CanadianStarships the originals were/are fixed to internal armatures with counter-sink machine screws, the heads covered with small pieces of painted vinyl to hide them. The size of this kit does make that a viable option. As for painting the aztec and hull markings, I think re-scaling my 1/1400 masks might be do-able with some key measurments to reference from the physical kit. Let me know if you want to discuss 👍
I'll be watching when you start putting this behemoth together. Would be fun to see a comparison of the 1/650 TOS Enterprise saucer next to this one, just to see how much bigger the ships grew in size.
@CanadianStarships thank you! I didn't think CA glue would be good enough. I'm also considering putting support in the pylons and the saucer and replacing the center support with something aluminum flavored.
@@KillerLSXZ If you are talking about the 650 D, also remember that there is still a metal plate that is to arrive along with your decals, that is somehow meant to work as part of the support structure. Not sure how that works yet though.

My wife is very happy they don't stay here too! I know that the final home for this one is a big open space!
You mentioned a could parts were for the nacelles for Generations. I know they used the 6' miniature for that movie but I didn't know they changed the model.
They gave the model a full refresh for Generations. They didn't think it was good enough as it was for the big screen. Ironically, they then went and added stock footage of the ship from the show in a couple of spots!
What a beauty! I did not know that the company sold a kit this size. I can only imagine the cost and wish I had the money to buy. Look forward to the build!
Thanks, I'm looking forward to getting started on it in the new year.
what company ?
HUGE!!!
Yes, yes it is! And you can't really appreciate the size of it until you see it in person!
So how would one order something like this?
Do you mean the kit?
@@CanadianStarships yes
@@normanbeaulieu4204 I'm not sure if they are still available but you can contact Helios Models and Lighting for information. Their email is on their website or you can contact them via facebook.
@@CanadianStarships thank you
Opened mine up, some similar issues: top of the neck's spine where it meets/overlaps the saucer is missing/cut off at a weird angle (may have happened during sanding - though with the way the saucer is designed I should be able to use some sheet styrene to replicate that bit of "spine"). The deflector insert is a bit of a mess on mine, its missing the detail on about 40% of it, like a bad casting. It has a bit of warp as well - but not enough I couldn't fix it. Not sure what I'll do there yet but may reach out to them and see if I can get it replaced, otherwise it will need to get commissioned through a 3D modeler and printer
All the negatives aside, this is an incredible bit of kit.
This looks amazing! Where can I get one!?!?!?!
They are made by Helios Models and Lighting. You can contact them through Facebook.
Phaser strips gonna light up?
LISTEN THE WHOLE WAY THROUGH, IDIOT.
Yes they will!
Is there a 1701-A in this scale?
There's a TOS Enterprise in 650 but I'm not sure about an A or Refit.
@@ammosophobia The 350 Refit would be bigger than the 650 scale. It can be a tough one to build but is a really nice large size!
Omg! Where do I get one?😢
Enterpice?
You can contact Helios Models via either there website of Facebook messenger for pricing.
where you get that beauty from?
Helios Models & Lighting, you can contact them through Facebook or their website for more information.
about 750.00 ?? or more ??
More. You can contact Helios Models through their website or facebook for pricing.
Looks to be half the size of the studio filming model.
It's half the size of the 6 foot studio model and right between the other two filming models.
Yeah, we can chat in pm about all of that!
Are there not saucer rim windows? 10 forward - etc?
No. They will need to be added.
I'll be watching when you start putting this behemoth together. Would be fun to see a comparison of the 1/650 TOS Enterprise saucer next to this one, just to see how much bigger the ships grew in size.
I do have a couple of those kits in stock so I could make that happen.
I've taken a photo and posted on Facebook (Various groups) and on my Canadian Starships Instagram.
Where are the Lifeboats ???
They will have to be added.
They're decals on the 6' studio model, so this is one omission I can live with here
What brand of epoxy glue do you use?
Right now I'm using JB Weld ClearWeld 5 Minute.
OMG! Wow! Huuuuuuuuuuuge!!!! Looking for up coming updates on this!
It is huge. Although I've just seen comparisons between this and the molds for the 4 foot filming miniature, and that's even bigger!

Some time in the future, I want to build one of these at a 1:500 scale. I want to build all the Enterprises at 1:500 scale.
That would be even bigger... I'm not sure I'd have the room to build it! Good luck!
@@CanadianStarshipsI will have to wait until I have more room also. lol
Try Marshall Models " new"!/350 Excelsior & Enterprise B the same in 1 / 537 , Mask Design 1 /650 masks for the Enterprise E also coming is lighting for the Enterprise E .
I've heard they have those coming out, and I now Mask Designs been working on the masks for the E. Lots of stuff for us modelers to sink our teeth into!
@@CanadianStarships , I am concerned about pylon sag , caused from the all up weight from the nacells , has this issue been addressed & of course fully tested ?..
@@garywood1973 The pylons look very solid and are one part, rather than add on's as the 1000 scale kit was. There should be no problem, however, being a new kit, there isn't any long term data.
@@CanadianStarships Question is this a movie style build or from the TV show ?, with what I have seen the movie version had a lot more detail .
@@garywood1973 It is going to be the movie version, and in fact, I've just made an agreement with Motion Picture Miniatures to have a full paint mask set made for it.
How do I order one
You can contact Helios Models via their website or Facebook Messanger.
@canadianstarships. Can this model be easily fortified with adding a couple of layers of fiber glass in the interior? Even the Nacelles looks like that modification can be done.
Of course you could do it, but you'd have to be very precise about avoiding the windows. Wouldn't do much to keep the nacelles from sagging with no support in the pylons though.
You could, but the resin is quite good and I don't think that it will be necessary, but we shall see!
is this as big as the 4 foot tv filming model from TNG or bigger?
It's about 3 feet long assembled... so halfway between the 4 and 2 foot filming miniatures.
@@CanadianStarships oh wow didn't realize the the four foot was that big! Lol!
Where do you get this?
Helios Models & Lighting. You can contact them via their website or facebook messenger.
What in the world? Please don't tell this costs a thousand dollars. This is beautiful...
Ok, I won't tell you that!
This is badass. 😎 If I had the money and time and choice of either this one or the Eaglemoss/Fanhome one, I’m picking this! Could probably get it done in under 2.5 years too. Lol!
Always go with the build you do the work on yourself! More satisfying.
So we get an unboxing & that's it !! , I want to see how many ways this kit will fail "boring ".
Well the unboxing is the first step. There will be a build series on this coming in the new year. I'm getting some pre-prep done... working with some aftermarket venders on creating some products for this... ie mask sets and bridge/conference room parts. If the kit fails in any way, it will all be there in the videos.
I'd like to see a 1/350 scale Enterprise-D so it's in scale with 1/350 scale Tamaya USS Enterprise aircraft carrier.
That would be big... 1,831 cm or 72 inches.
Could you please leave links to the kit manufacturer in the video description? Thanks in advance 🖖
I don't have links, but you can contact Helios Models via their website or through Facebook Messenger.
So how do you get one of these? Personally, I'd be more interested in the Enterprise-E. I checked the website for Helios Models. No sales information. Just a photo gallery. So is this basically unobtainium for us mere mortals?
You should be able to get their contact from their website, or you can contact them through Facebook.
