The manager's right to criticise him. The player's allowed to be upset with it no matter how much he's paid, because he's not stone. However it's up to him to prove it wrong, to change the manager's assessment or to leave. He's done none of those successfully for whatever reason.

At the moment the problem is that I feel the EPL teams have learnt Pep's tactics which involves doing much of passing and scoring through crosses or going through the pockets. But now I have noticed that most teams have learnt how to just use a 5-4-2 formation of which even some 2 in the mid will be defending in the box while the other 2 in front just wait for a counter..

How do you come back overweight and not expect to get called out on it. Pep publicly called Aguero over weight, Nasri too.. players that are a class above Phillips. Pep probably told him privately before making it public. Personally i think he's full of shite. You came to city and felt out your depth and didnt put the work in to make yourself feel like you deserve to be there. The guy won a treble and played f all part in it. Using pep as an excuse is what i expected from Phillips..he cant account for his own actions. He will be on talksport in 10 years blaming pep for your decline still.

I find it VERY interesting Pep’s input on De Bruyne moving deeper as he ages. Part of me expects Kevin to play a bit deeper before he retires, he’s the kind of technically gifted player who may lose his pace and a bit of physicality but will always contribute. I suppose he doesn’t have the attributes that Pep values in a DM. The things I would do to have a tactical discussion with Pep 😭

Pep thought a lot of Mr Philips. That's why he bought him for a lot of money. Mr Philips needs to realise that some will try and make a mountain out of nothing. Pep said it in a light-hearted way. The comment is over a year old and people are still going on about it. Maybe Pep looked for a quick cover to cover more serious failings. On the tiles too much.

He probably only ever intended to use him fleetingly, to stand in for the departed Fernadinho, but Phillips is not a player i would have bought, if I had been manager ... his injury record was never particuarly good at Leeds, and he wasn't really City quality.

To meet the English quota or homegrown quote. He also wasn't a bad player when he first signed and if Rodri ever got injured he would have had his chance but sometimes timing is everything in football and luck either goes for you or it doesn't.
