    Awesome video. Helped my 7 year old understand what a sleeping bag is and how to use it! Thanks!

    1) Never sleep inside the sleeping bag without a liner. It helps you keep the bag clean from perspiration and maintains temperature. As it is easy to wash a liner but not the bag
    2) instead of folding in half and permanently creasing your bag always squish and stuff it directly in the compression bag.
    These two things will lengthen the life of the bag.

    you should also add that you can compress the size of the bag using the compression straps.

    Could you please suggest some good brands for sleeping bags. And what are the important points one should keep in mind when buying a sleeping bag?

    • @Ujjwalis
      @Ujjwalis 3 года назад +4

      Depends on your budget , extremity of cold you are going to use in, and criticality. You can begin with Comfort Temperature rating of +5 to -5 Degree , "Poly" Filled Forclaz/Simond brand Sleeping bags from Decathlon ( +5 if you are sure you will never do treks with Snow camps, -5 if so) they will come for anything from Rs 5-11K based on . If you are serious trekker, plan to always carry your Rucksack yourself, and plan to do moderate to difficult treks with camping on Snow/Glaciers/ Winter , go for -10 to -20 Degree Comfort rated "Down" fill Bags from Northface, Colman, Marmot, Mountain Hardware, etc and set you anything from USD 200 to even 1200 (Are you going Mountaineering ??) ! Down bags are extremely warm ,light and compact, but need maintenance and once wet (sweat, rain/ snow ) , its hard to dry them unlilke Poly fill ones.

    Only compressed sleeping bag when you're going hiking trips. Otherwise, leave loose by hanging at your home, so that it can maintain insulating quality.

  • @privsoft6836

    You should never pack like this... It will leave a folding crease & spoil the layers of synthetic fibre in it.
    Just gather from a corner and start pushing it in the bag and rotate the sack till it gets full on one side.. Much faster.... Increase the life of your trekking partner...

      @swathichatrapathy9347 6 лет назад +6

      If you can find one, pick one up that can withstand up to -10 degree celcius. That will work even on winter treks.

    • @rohank9292
      @rohank9292 6 лет назад +1

      Swathi Chatrapathy Thank you so much for that info, I'll definitely look for one with a -10 degree rating. Any pointers as to where can I find one?

      Rohan Bora consider comfort temperature and extreme temperature. Go for -10 C comfort. Décathlon is an option.

    • @Indiahikes
      @Indiahikes  5 лет назад

      Go for simple foam mats, they are inexpensive and work really well to insulate the tent. They are easily available too. You could also buy rubber mats, they insulate better but are heavier to carry! You could take two foam mats instead of one.

    Hi Swathi hope you are doing great. Just one thing - the way you roll the bag is actually wrong and might damage the bag by time. Instead you can make another video showing how to squish and stuff it directly into the compression bag.

  • @arungan24

    I guess the packing part can be done a bit simpler by just pushing the bag in its cover and compress by pulling the straps..

      Hi! If you are talking about the sleeping bag, they are custom made for Indiahikes trekkers. Can't really put a price on it! But if you are looking to buy a sleeping bag that can withstand -10 degree Celcius, it would cost you around Rs.7,000 or Rs.8,000.

      @@swathichatrapathy9347 actually stuffing in the bag gives it a longer lifespan. Folding will crease the bag and cause the inner filling to part which will lead to temperature leak.
