    Most people look at St Maria Goretti as a poor victim and this ends up discouraging people to follow her.
    Br. Vincent shows us the true side of this fascinating saint which actually attracts us to immitate her!
    How could a little girl’s strength be a model not just for women but men and soldiers?
    ----------------------------------------------------------
    PRAYER TO ST. MARIA GORETTI
    O St. Maria Goretti who, strengthened by God’s grace, did not hesitate even at the age of 11 to shed your blood and sacrifice life itself to defend your virginal purity, look graciously on the unhappy human race which has strayed far from the path of eternal salvation.
    Teach us all, and especially youth, with what courage and promptitude we should flee, for the love of JESUS, anything that could offend Him or stain our souls with sin.
    Obtain for us from Our Lord victory in temptation, comfort in the sorrows of life, and the grace which we earnestly beg of Thee (mention intention), and may we one day enjoy with Thee the imperishable glory of Heaven. Amen. (Pray an Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory be.)
    St. Maria Goretti, pray for us! (Feast day on July 6th.)

    I am so grateful that Father is retelling this tragic but inspiring story, in an age where the young people of this world are being bombarded with evil, and inundated with false teachings about chastity, celibacy and abstinence.
    I know it will inspire people to be courageous in their pursuit of holiness, and strengthen them to call out to the Lord and All of the Saints to pray for the grace to remain pure, and to stay faithful and obedient to our good and loving God.
    Thank you and God Bless You!
    Pray for us Saints Maria Gorretti and Mother Mary.

    Her absolute forgiveness was stronger than any evil or her own death! I know that I'll never have it. I'm a coward. I think if I forgive, they'll just stomp all over me again. You see, I run on fear, and I'm never at peace. That way, I know, I never will win. Sad. I'm obstinate. Pray for me.

      Pls don't give up trying... think about the words in the Our Father: "forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us." Practice saying the words, "Bless them, Lord, I forgive them. May they forgive me." It won't feel genuine at first, and you might have to repeat them thousands of times, perhaps, but eventually, a little at a time, they will become more real and immediate. Peace

    • @brothernimishcoelho
      @brothernimishcoelho 2 месяца назад +5

      In a certain sense she was a victim. But Br. Vincent is showing us that she was not a mere victim. She was a warrior and a lioness. In as much as she was a warrior, she was not a victim. Br. Vincent was trying to show how she won the fight for her virginity and chastity. She did not come out as a loser, in spite of her death.
      A soldier is honoured by his death because he fought valiantly and did not desert the battle.
      In the same way, Maria was honoroured by her death because she did not give up the fight. If we look at our fight for virtue this way, and not as poor victims, we will make much more progress in our spiritual life.
      Becuase, unfortunately the concept of a victim in today's language is often confused with self pity and depression, and both of these are detrimental to authentic sanctity and virtue.
      Hope it made sense.

    Is rape also the sin of the victim?! It can't be! Please Father, explain how she fought to 'save her soul'.
    God can't possibly put the rapists' sin on the victim...

    • @brothernimishcoelho
      @brothernimishcoelho 2 месяца назад +2

      There are degrees of perfection. St. Maria gorretti acted in the most perfect way.
      A victim of abuse may or may not be guilty and technically speaking they could even be saints. But it is very difficult both for the victim and for the the Church to be sure of that. But God knows and judges the heart.
      We should encourage people to be like St. Maria Goretti but offer hope and mercy for victims. Regardless of consent in the act, everyone is in need of mercy, and a victim should not dwell on the past, but get over it and look ahead and Trust in God's goodness and mercy.
      I don't think it would help for the victim to worry about defending his/her innocence. God is not a detective, he is a Father, and he doesn't care about the past as long as the person is willing to own up and receive HIs love and Mercy.
      It is enough to mention the episode in confession once without trying to justify one's position and then leave it to the priest to decide whether there was sin or not. The penitents attitude should be of meekness and should be ready to accept that he/she might have been guilty.
      And after that, forget it forever.
      What are your thoughts on this? Does it make sense to you? Interested to hear your opinion.

      Being a martyr is an incredible grace and nigh on sure to confirm God's love. Saving one's soul is a work we have to do every day, every moment. Fighting for Jesus and against sin, whether your own or of another, and laying down your life in that struggle, is an incredible act of love to God, as an antecedent to sin. Saving one's soul doesn't only consist of avoiding sin, for St. Maria Goretti that was not the issue as the sin wouldn't (or maybe in a very minor part) be hers. She was fighting for God, which is an incredible and powerful act of purification

      Saint Augustine was very clear (speaking to the distress of many Christian women who had been raped during the sack of Rome). He wrote: "We assert, then, that when the body is overpowered but the resolve to remain chaste stands firm, unaltered by any consent to evil, the crime belongs only to the man who took the woman by force and not at all to the woman who was taken by force, without her consent and without her will” (City of God, 1.19).

      Saint Maria Goretti is a saint because she not only fought her own soul, but her rapist's soul as well.
      Had she not fought against the rape, but relented, then Allesandro could have gone to Hell.
      So it's less about sin assigned, and more about Maria's soul fighting for the love of her neighbor's soul. If Allesandro raped her, and got lynched for doing so, he would have gone to Hell forever. But since, miraculously, her martyrdom caused him to return to his senses, God gave him the grace of repentance to his soul through Maria's will to fight.
      Maria's fight saved Allesandro's soul. That's why she's a saint.

    Every time I hear about Maria Goretti I feel sick thinking how this story must add more suffering to victims of sexual assault. While I know it is NOT people’s intention, but it no doubt sends the message to victims that they aren’t holy if they didn’t fight the attacker until it caused the attacker to murder them. Since something like 1 in 5 girls & 1 in 8 boys are assaulted, many repeatedly for years, there will always be victims present to hear this story. Abusers will often use the fear that causes most victims to freeze during assaults as supposed “proof” that the victim “consented” to get away with their crimes. How do we use Maria’s story to help victims heal & help children tell someone & get help if they are being abused like that by a family member, close family friend, teacher, coach? We need victims, Christian counselors who have experience helping victims to answer these issues. I can only say to victims: “Your abuse is/was NOT your fault & remember how much God loves you”.

    • @jackaubrey7990
      @jackaubrey7990 2 месяца назад

      Yes, you do have a point. 👍But it is also very important for these victims to get over the trauma. And Self-Pity is the worst enemy to overcoming trauma. Self pity makes a person more introverted and introspective and enslaves the person. Don't you agree?
      Looks like the objective of this video is to take the attention away from self-pity. With Mary's help and St. Maria Goretti, I think even abuse victims can find encouragement and a person to admire in this video.
      A message like this: "Resist your aggressor, but if you can't resist, then don't worry, it's okay to be violated"
      might cause more harm than good. Don't you think?
      But still, I think your point is very valid and should be addressed. Maybe they should find another story to do so...
      Just my two pence 🪙🪙. I hope the Fathers who made this video agreee with what I am saying. 🫰

      You have written well on an important point. It is evident that we must stress the beauty of chastity to our young people, but it is wrong to couch the story in “purity or sin.” If Alessandro had prevailed (grown man against an 11yr old) it would NOT have been a sin for her. Tragedy, yes. Horror, yes. Degradation, yes. But not a sin. In that regard, she could have joined her suffering to the Passion of Our Lord, in being exposed and degraded in the Cross.
      Many pious women who have suffered from sexual assault struggle with this story, and thus it needs to be explained in a way that shows the great value of chastity, and the grievous sin of assault, without imputing guilt to those who survive.

      @@MrsAngelala What is the point of not feeling at fault? Isn't God's forgiveness for that? It's not the end of the world if we make mistakes... Ask for forgiveness. But please don't water down morality because of that. We MUST prefer death rather than sin or cause others to sin. Because in sin, GOD is offended, and God is infinetely deserving of love. Of course it is hard, but we must aim for sanctity even though we are weak. I think it was in this book I once read by Mary Ann Budnik, You can become a Saint. If we aim for sanctity we might at least make it to purgatory, but if we aim for purgatory, we might end up in.... you know where.

      @@Aslaner001Yes, but we should only "feel at fault" when we have actually committed a fault (or sin). What sin should a rape victim confess? Fornication? Adultry?
      Sexual assault victims feel guilty because of the intimate nature of the violence against them. This guilt is misplaced.
      SA survivors need healing, they even need to forgive their assailant (NOT the same as having any sort of contact or relationship).
      Part of what makes Saint Maria Goretti a saint is her incredible forgiveness of Alessandro.
      With God's grace, we must forgive those who treaspass against us and heal.
