- I finished Shadowbringers MSQ and lost my sprout :'( It's now time to react to Endwalker! I still have plenty of instanced content to do before moving on to Endwalker MSQ such as UWU blind solo cook, E9-12S solo cook, Alliance Raid solo blind cook and all extremes blind solo cook.

The shot of that WoL zooming out from the moon always gives me goosebumps
When the trailer first dropped (and sometimes still) the full back with the moon had me BAWLING. I’m tearing up writing this now. This game kind of changed my life, so that shot really just hit me.
Edit: I legitimately started playing Paladin before EW dropped just because of the trailer and went through EW as PLD. It is, to this day, one of my favorite classes ever and before that I only had DRK as a tank.

Not a FFXIV spoiler, but this expansion has lots of throwbacks to FFIV. You see it in the new mount, the minions, lots of in-game content, and of course the whole PLD going to the moon thing.

Urianger is the best on both heals and DPS with his insta murder mob spell whenever he gets impatient. (Redacted) is by far the worst healer, though.

"PLD, they're the worst." You say...
I hope you meant that like aesthetically or something. If you meant that they're literally bad as a tank, then I'm afraid you're sorely mistaken. All tanks are well balanced damage wise at max level. But as things stand right now, PLD is probably the best designed one (it's the tank with the most recent rework as well). It's as good defensively as GNB. It has nearly as good self-sustain as a WAR. It suffers from none of the drawbacks that make GNB/DRK awkward as tanks (such as cartridge issues for GNB or busy burst for DRK), while still being more involved than WAR. It's the only tank with two party mitigations instead of just one. And it's the only tank that can maintain uptime at range. It's also the only tank who can max out both their personal short CD and mitigation on their co-tank at the same time for double tank busters, due to the oath gauge, or even use their short CD twice in a row back to back for the selfsame reason. Clemency is generally a meme because it's a GCD, but it can have great utility in downtime mechanics, especially during prog.
Dude, PLD is actually nuts at max level. They have it all. Their utility is undeniably the strongest, while also remaining as powerful as other tanks damage wise and defensively. The only issue with PLD in its current iteration is the invuln. The invuln does indeed suck. But it's far from being the end of the world when you consider everything else PLD has got going for it. You can just coordinate with your co-tank and the invuln won't be an issue. There are only so many mechanics that require invuln cheesing in a single fight.
If you've had bad experiences with PLD as tank, chances are you were doing old 70 content (where job balance can be quite messy), or it's an issue with the player not knowing how to properly make the most out of the PLD kit, not an issue with the job itself.
To top it all, PLD will remain practically unchanged in Dawntrail, which is a good thing given how good they are in Endwalker post-rework (they're basically a GNB that can actually fully focus on maximizing their defensives and boss movement without getting cucked by continuation). DRK will still suffer from self-sustain issues and TBN dilemmas. GNB will still suffer from a really bad 1min setup (if you're a GNB main who got fucked over by phase pushes that were too fast or had to AOE combo to set up your cartridges on time, you know exactly what I'm talking about) and from insanely high potencies that make crit variance disgusting. WAR will continue being a reliable tank, but it's far too simple to the point of lacking depth, which can be off-putting for some players.
TLDR; you're selling PLD way too short. It's not even my favorite tank. That would be GNB (despite it being pretty crappy design-wise). But objectively, PLD is incredibly strong as a tank due to its utility and insane flexibility that doesn't sacrifice any damage or personal mitigation.
I agree with everything here, except one part. Why do you say the invuln sucks? Personally I'd rank it the second best after Warrior. GNB is def the worst, followed by DRK. At least DRK's rework is loads better than before, but if a healer isn't paying attention and doesn't let you die, it can get a bit crazy lol
@@rialto8587 Invulns are primarily used to cheese tank mechanics, not to avoid needing to heal. Since all invulns are equally capable of letting you survive any tank mechanic without using your other CDs, what matters the most is how often you can use them per encounter, not how low your HP would be after the fact.
PLD is generally the only tank who struggles to use invuln more than once per Savage fight. And in Ultimate where it's typically needed multiple times, you generally have to plan around PLD having this very long 7 minutes cooldown.
The only real advantage of a "true" immunity is that you're typically also immune to damage downs when the damage is supposed to be avoided. So when you have no other need for the invuln for the rest of the fight, you can just "sit in the bad" for the sake of uptime. But that is extremely niche to parsing runs for very specific encounters. It definitely doesn't offset the obnoxious 7 minutes CD. That's just way too long. The 6 minutes of GNB is the maximum length you can go before compromising the second usage (and it actually retains the main advantage of PLD since GNB's bolide is also a true immunity).
Typical tank invulns ranking would be as follow right now:
1. WAR best invuln (Holmgang is just too good)
2. DRK second best invuln after the rework of LD
3. GNB but interchangeable with DRK's 2nd place depending on the encounter
4. PLD by far the worst in any Savage or Ultimate due to the 7 min CD
Yeah the paladin hate is just a joke. It stems from playing WoW as a kid and Paladins being op and giving me trauma. So now I always dunk on Paladins in games as pay back??

DRK is the worst invuln. Like you get invuln only to need to be healed ti full to avoid dying
Also paladin is second worst. Like you get complete invuln without depleting hp but 640 sec CD is just too much of a wait to reuse during dungeon, trial, raid. Best invuln is war with his ,,cant go below one,, without depleting hp but still half the timer of paladin. DRK has like 380 sec wait and still after use needs to be healed to full to avoid certain death . GNB which is my main has like 380 sec CD but still does not kill you if invuln ends and you have plenty of regen to get hp back.

@@theprizewinningsquid yeah and did you count the CD of that invuln? That you cant use it every 30 seconds? That DRK is totally reliant on healer and if healer stops before boss and refuse to heal the tank is screwed because he cant do a thing? Even one YT creator said that DRK is on the bottom of the barrel. Even worse the barrel is on top of the DRK . Thats how bad DRK as tank feels in terms of self healing.

Not everyone is as nerdy about the dragons as some. Recognizing them by appearance isn't guaranteed for someone who isn't absolutely engaged with dragon lore.
On top of that, at this point in the MSQ, the only huge dragons on that scale we've seen are midgardsormr (no longer around in the same way, can't be him), nidhogg (now dead, can't be him), hraesvelgr (possibility, but hasn't been relevant since HW), and tiamat (literally just was relevant and central to the story as of 5.4/5.5)
I don't think it's unreasonable to assume it's the dragon that makes the most logical sense until you find out differently.
And for the fact that estinien calls him by the name "Vrtra", I honestly just assumed I couldn't understand him properly (I have trouble with verbal comprehension sometimes) or that he was using a random word of dragons tongue to speak to a dragon.
Because of 5.4, I reckon.

Nah it's just a joke, It comes from when I played wow as a kid and Paladins were op and traumatized me lmao. I get it a lot that people think I'm serious when I'm not. I have nothing against paladins in ff I just meme about it

I never played WoW, I played FFXI and hated Ninja in that game for the same reason, and actually hate Warrior in XIV because of the awful imbalance that SE did between PLD and WAR when HW was current material. So I can understand where you're coming from.
