As people rather new to the hobby we haven't had any of the bad experiences mentioned in this video. We even started with the avata and the worse comments we got were "wait until you try a real fpv drone". After trying one we had to agree 🤣. Community has been great so far, even had a few big yters answer questions in comments.
That's just the thing though, the avata isn't viewed as a "real" drone by "real fpv pilots". There's definitely some super helpful people in this hobby, but there's also a lot of gatekeeping knowitalls!

If you want something truly RTF out of the box, that's reliable, beginner friendly (albeit very pricey), and has top tier video, go DJI. But if you want to rip a bando and smash into walls at 30mph, go the opposite of DJI. Its all about what you're looking for.
Not bad, but you're dead wrong about the FAA and RID. The FAA, with the CDA at their side, lobbied congress to introduce RID at a congressional hearing long before they were actually directed to make it happen. This *was* an FAA/CDA initiative. Keep it factual.

I don't publish illegal things either but if any of your videos ever gets a lot of views, people will come out of the woodwork to figure out something illegal that you did.
This was a good video, as someone who started out with a Tinyhawk II freestyle RTF kit, and crashed it and then had to learn to fix it, I feel inspired to make my own video for anyone looking at buying their own RTF/BNF quad explaining why they shouldn't be afraid to do so.
Definitely. I have zero videos on my channel. I build my own FPV quads, have PNP quads, and BNF’s, fly whoops. Even have an Avata. I build balsa gliders and fly foamies. I don’t need to post on social media, which sucks. Great job on the video. 👍

About six years ago I was watching “Blue Falcon” videos and built my first analog 5 inch and several builds followed. But I couldn’t learn how not to crash so I gave up. Later when DJI came out with the fpv I knew it was my chance! The funny thing is I never once used the “panic button” but just knowing it was there gave me the confidence to start flying manual mode. Now I’m having so much fun buying a new prebuilt quad every month (practically) that I haven’t even attempted to build with the new “easier” kits they have available. Haters? They make our fun that much more enjoyable! lol!!! PS, I still have my Avata too! Ooooooohhhhh!!!!! 😭😭😭😭😭😭
I made a video of why i bought a RID module and only got support. Most comments were, we understand for commercial use and part 107 pilots without an option. I was expecting lots of negative feedback but i was embraced by the community.
Great video. I've experienced some of this, and I think a lot of people can relate. To your point about praising the FAA, you don't even have to praise anything they've done to literally get death threats. Just showing any compliance will do it. I have held off on making any Remote ID module videos for now because I do not want to deal with the barrage of hateful comments about "supporting the FAA." Too many idiots who literally will not even watch the video and immediately get mad at anyone who purchased it. Some of these individuals have been misguided into thinking that Remote ID is going away if we make a lot of noise. We did that years ago already, I helped to be a part of it -- and it failed. Unfortunately for all of us, RID is staying. And, not everyone has the option to "not comply" so content about it is needed. Creators should not be afraid to post about it due to backlash. It's also important to be knowledgeable about laws so that you don't incriminate yourself because people are out there looking to get you. I've had attempts to cancel me on tiktok videos in particular, "where's your spotter" they ask as they see a flight in a field in the middle of literal nowhereville. The answer: all flights are conducted in accordance with FAA guidelines, and my "co-located" spotter is not on camera. The FAA is welcome to contact me about any video, but I will not answer any questions further about the flight to comments that are obviously looking for a "gotcha." The community is its own worst enemy, and this behavior makes people afraid to post ANYTHING out of liability.

Still running my X9D+se with a Crossfire module. My problem with DJI is they are the bullys of the airwaves, I cannot fly with any DJI pilots around or they knock out my video.
Great video haha! So I fly LOS planes and FPV. I use an Spektrum IX20 with Crossfire on the back.. Dude, my first Fpv meet up people kept asking me what do I need an IX20 radio for, I told him I wanted the nicest radio for my one quad copter. ( I have meany quads and planes), but the hate I got was sooooo funny.
I must admit ive been the problem when it comes to some of these topics. though i was coming from a good place of trying to teach not to tear down. i can say the vast majority of big content creators out there in FPV are some of the most toxic and selfish people i have ever met. you keep hitting the nail on the head! would you be interested in coming on the podcast?

That's like how PC's and graphics cards were a couple years ago. I bought my gaming PC because it was actually cheaper than the standalone graphics card in it!
I didn't have any of those experiences.. I will say I've been in the RC community for the better part of 35 years and have almost exclusively built my rigs. When I started FPV I've built my quads. But I've also bought the Avata. I've since torn down the avata and upgraded it with the axis flying 3.5 kit but. I have no problem with buying rtf. It's room for everyone in the community.
I started FPV with the Avata, then quickly accumulated more quads with the O3 system. The Avata still rocks, for many reasons. I might not choose it over a gopro mountable quad, but for long duration and SAFE scouting missions, what else can do that?
So were having this oproblem in our local group. The deal with building your own shit in freestyle fpv is that, you need to know how to repair your stuff if you plan on flying some sort of proximity or freestyle. chances are you will crash and need repairs and it dosnet take long before all the people around you are tired of rebuilding your shit because you buy premade and refuse to learn how to repair or build. If you just cruise and crash a drone a year then fine, but if you wanna juicy flip through a gap, learn to work on your shit;.
Here I am. My Avata brought me here. Bought almost a year ago, flown it more than 6 month ago the last time. But, I have been into several, "exclusive small" hyper connected scenes. This behavior from only some loud people is kinda normal as well as frustrating. Some few ruin the calm enjoyment and make a competition from barely nothing. Like RC remotes. I still do enjoy my dji remote controller. With all of my 6 quads. The system suits me. Sure the gimbals are small and you dont have that plethora off switches and screens and stuff. I did not miss a thing. Oh and I loved the Avata for beeing that nice to me with 0 skills and 0 simulator hours. I would not have sticked if my first copter would have been an iflight bnf. Let alone a frameset and some electronics to jerry rig together. I for my self do not give a shit about what somebody likes or uses as long as I see them enjoying their stuff. I have seen people doing amazing things with mediocre equipment and not blinded by religious believes. Thanks for your thoughts and pointing out such a sensitive topic. I agree with the comments on the 03 air unit... I have HDzero , i havent tried walksnail.. but the 03 AIR UNIT really is a solid unit. i have trashed em bigtime.. i even broke two... but then realised i could split the bottom off of one .. and the top off another and put em together and i still had ONE working unit out of 2 broken ones lol I LOVE the 03 air unit , they are tough.. ive drowned em in mud.. everythin and they hold up. The ones that broke were literally dented n fked up.
O3 is the best. Nothing is close right now, and the ONLY weakness compared to other products is latency. But tbh most pilots can't tell a difference anyway.
I've flown many hundreds of hours on analog and I honestly can't tell much of a difference at all in latency. Even if I could, I doubt my reaction time is quick enough for it to matter 😂
FPV is fun but building RC craft is too. I don't believe most hobbyists rip on beginners who by BNF or RTF but they soon will if you ask somebody else to fix your quads. It's a hobby if you build but it's just a game if you buy and brake.
Are the points you've made in your video based on your online experience of the fpv community, or irl experience? My irl experience of the fpv community is very different from what you've described. The keyboard warriors tend to be a winging bunch of c..ts though.
We are from NZ me an my sons fly fpv an have 6 quads between us we do it for fun an to jus see the views up there an i gotta say its something else when your the pilot we also never put anyone down if u fly normal drones for fun who cares cos as long as u are happy an having fun thats what its about to us chur
I am sorry but I aint gonna stop enjoying my tinyhawk 2 freestyle. It just made my life better pls idc if it is frsky or whatever. I can already do inverted yaw spins, split ses, juicy flicks and I never crashed once or had a failsafe. I will get an elrs quad but pls I just wanna be happy flying it. It must be because I have only 200 Subscribers AND the best 200 Subscribers cuz I've experienced no hate from anyone in the hobby yet. And I'm a guy who's still running Anal log (no aftermarket VRX) & Crossfire. However, I have seen MANY videos, comments & live stream chats containing evidence of what you speak of. Same with Reddit...but Reddit is like that on every Subreddit, regarding every topic/hobby. This video was great man. Nothing like some Professionally done sarcasm & whit. If you fly everyday dji turns out to not be that good. Quality looks nice but the quality of their products on durability SUCKS. Go walksnail BTW Roma f5 v2 will go 130 mph with the right props. And tinyhawk freestyle bnf is nice for the price
That is definitely how it seems sometimes. A lot of old-schoolers look down on drones, but I'd like to see them rip one like Alex Vanover and navigate their way through PID tuning.
Tou need to know how to build your quads period because your foing ro crash when a new fact FPV is impossible to fly and not crash, so you will need to know how to report them. That's a fact

I love my bnf drones cause when my pre-built drone are down my bnf is always working. I still use my dji black remote so I can buy the old gear to fly at ease. But I do prefer my boxer and quadmula drone by far but then again my baby hawk 2 HD and alpha A75 are wonderful when my other drones are broken or not working. Screw what other say. Just fly for yourself and not with a gopro for everyone else. I hate gopro. Too expensive and too much weight. I post every thing dvr only. Gopro is following the wrong crowd. Gopro doesnt make the pilot a better pilot it just makes to hobby more expensive
Part of what I love about this hobby is that it can appeal to creator types that get use out of GoPro/other action cams, as well as old fashioned RC heads that just like pure flying. The hate on pre-built is incredibly dumb. I didn't have the slightest clue what went into a drone, what components are needed and what connects where. Even for weeks after getting my first drone, the nazgul5 v2. Even after taking a motor off to fix it after getting a dent i didn't know shi. But then I took it apart to conformal coat my stack nd now I know how to build one. It's not even relatively complex as a little dirtbike. Hell it's 10x simpler than a frigging lawn mower 😂 why are people so snobby about this lol Also who's got spare money to find out they suck at soldering or you just make a mistake that ruins a board or something. My drone goggles n radio cost over 1000$. My car cost 2000$ 🤔

I didn't even know until I took it apart to conformal coat my stack. I'm posting a picture of it rn on my community tab so you can see the lil black chip/box that's swolen. Any idea what happened? How can I prevent this from happening to another 50$ESC? Is a more expensive ESC less likely to fail this way? And mostly: do you think my FC is also about to fail? I only know one person into the hobby and he told me my esc is bad that I shouldn't fly it anymore or it might catch on fire, and that I should buy a whole new stack cuz my FC is probably about to go out as well?
Hmm, interesting. I'm no expert with the intricacies of electronic components, but I definitely wouldn't continue to fly that ESC if that component is swollen. I'm not sure its fair to assume the FC is about to go, i'd probably just get a new ESC for now.
You defenatly dont need a degree to build a fpv drone. Yes its a learning curve but its not that hard. Second the dji o3, hdzero walksnail are competely diffrent systems. They are desihned for different purposes. You can't just say dji o3 is superior to everything else and I can give examples why It's not. The dinamic range of the o3 camera is bad, it performs sooo bad at night, the vtx is big, you can't replace the lens, you have to buy a whole new camera and give dji even more money. The latency is so bad in comparison to hdzero and its worse than walksnail, not by a lot but it's still worse. I hope that is enough😅
The average pilot (and even a lot of racers) cannot tell the difference in latency of an o3 and hdzero, I can assure you of that! If they say they can, they're probably lying. But even if they can, they're likely not skilled enough to be able to capitalize on the extra ~20-30ms of speed considering the average human has a reaction time of ~200ms. Dynamic range and low light do leave something to be desired I'll give you that, but hdz and wokesnail also don't record in 4k, OR have anywhere near the range and penetration. Yes the O3 has its issues and I won't dispute that, but the video quality, and penetration AND the possibility to use the same camera as an action cam blows everything else out of the water right now. I'd love for that to change though, because that would mean competition is driving improvement.
There is no point in recording 4k because I don't want motion blur in my fpv feed. About the latency- here we aren't talking about reaction time, it,s hard to explain but when you do fast turns and fast adjustment you expect the gate to be in position x and when it's not there on time it's desorioenting and that hurts consistancy. The other thing is size-way to big for a racing drone. Immidge quality-its the pritiest but I can't get over the dynamick range. I dont need more detail than what walksnail or the vista cameras give me. I will agree that the range and penetration are the best but thats all. At the end it comes down to what you want but that's why I'm so triggered. You can't just say dji o3-best withoutout mentioning all off this
If you're saying that O3 isn't fundamentally the best choice for racing, I'm not going to dispute that because you're right- based on the data. But in practice, I maintain that most pilots wouldn't be able to tell a difference, much less capitalize on that difference. Have you tried the O3 at the highest fps/lowest latency settings? If not, give it a try and see how you like it! Give Alex Vanover an O3 and he'd still smoke all the competition in any given race vs hdz fanboys. At the end of the day its all what you want as you said, and I want in this order: best video quality, best penetration, best range, lowest weight (bc i don't need a gopro anymore), and durability. O3 has all 5 of those things.

I didn't have any of those experiences.. I will say I've been in the RC community for the better part of 35 years and have almost exclusively built my rigs. When I started FPV I've built my quads. But I've also bought the Avata. I've since torn down the avata and upgraded it with the axis flying 3.5 kit but. I have no problem with buying rtf. It's room for everyone in the community.

The Avata still rocks, for many reasons.
I might not choose it over a gopro mountable quad, but for long duration and SAFE scouting missions, what else can do that?

So were having this oproblem in our local group. The deal with building your own shit in freestyle fpv is that, you need to know how to repair your stuff if you plan on flying some sort of proximity or freestyle. chances are you will crash and need repairs and it dosnet take long before all the people around you are tired of rebuilding your shit because you buy premade and refuse to learn how to repair or build. If you just cruise and crash a drone a year then fine, but if you wanna juicy flip through a gap, learn to work on your shit;.
Sounds like this person is just too lazy to learn to fix things themselves!
Here I am. My Avata brought me here. Bought almost a year ago, flown it more than 6 month ago the last time.
But, I have been into several, "exclusive small" hyper connected scenes. This behavior from only some loud people is kinda normal as well as frustrating. Some few ruin the calm enjoyment and make a competition from barely nothing. Like RC remotes. I still do enjoy my dji remote controller. With all of my 6 quads. The system suits me. Sure the gimbals are small and you dont have that plethora off switches and screens and stuff. I did not miss a thing.
Oh and I loved the Avata for beeing that nice to me with 0 skills and 0 simulator hours. I would not have sticked if my first copter would have been an iflight bnf. Let alone a frameset and some electronics to jerry rig together. I for my self do not give a shit about what somebody likes or uses as long as I see them enjoying their stuff. I have seen people doing amazing things with mediocre equipment and not blinded by religious believes. Thanks for your thoughts and pointing out such a sensitive topic. I agree with the comments on the 03 air unit... I have HDzero , i havent tried walksnail.. but the 03 AIR UNIT really is a solid unit. i have trashed em bigtime.. i even broke two... but then realised i could split the bottom off of one .. and the top off another and put em together and i still had ONE working unit out of 2 broken ones lol
I LOVE the 03 air unit , they are tough.. ive drowned em in mud.. everythin and they hold up. The ones that broke were literally dented n fked up.
O3 is the best. Nothing is close right now, and the ONLY weakness compared to other products is latency. But tbh most pilots can't tell a difference anyway.

I've flown many hundreds of hours on analog and I honestly can't tell much of a difference at all in latency. Even if I could, I doubt my reaction time is quick enough for it to matter 😂
FPV is fun but building RC craft is too. I don't believe most hobbyists rip on beginners who by BNF or RTF but they soon will if you ask somebody else to fix your quads. It's a hobby if you build but it's just a game if you buy and brake.
Are the points you've made in your video based on your online experience of the fpv community, or irl experience? My irl experience of the fpv community is very different from what you've described. The keyboard warriors tend to be a winging bunch of c..ts though.

If you fly everyday dji turns out to not be that good. Quality looks nice but the quality of their products on durability SUCKS. Go walksnail BTW Roma f5 v2 will go 130 mph with the right props. And tinyhawk freestyle bnf is nice for the price

As an old school rc pilot. Drones are not really considered part of the rc world. It isn't really flying.
That is definitely how it seems sometimes. A lot of old-schoolers look down on drones, but I'd like to see them rip one like Alex Vanover and navigate their way through PID tuning.

I love my bnf drones cause when my pre-built drone are down my bnf is always working. I still use my dji black remote so I can buy the old gear to fly at ease. But I do prefer my boxer and quadmula drone by far but then again my baby hawk 2 HD and alpha A75 are wonderful when my other drones are broken or not working. Screw what other say. Just fly for yourself and not with a gopro for everyone else. I hate gopro. Too expensive and too much weight. I post every thing dvr only. Gopro is following the wrong crowd. Gopro doesnt make the pilot a better pilot it just makes to hobby more expensive
Part of what I love about this hobby is that it can appeal to creator types that get use out of GoPro/other action cams, as well as old fashioned RC heads that just like pure flying. The hate on pre-built is incredibly dumb.
I didn't have the slightest clue what went into a drone, what components are needed and what connects where. Even for weeks after getting my first drone, the nazgul5 v2. Even after taking a motor off to fix it after getting a dent i didn't know shi.
But then I took it apart to conformal coat my stack nd now I know how to build one. It's not even relatively complex as a little dirtbike. Hell it's 10x simpler than a frigging lawn mower 😂 why are people so snobby about this lol
Also who's got spare money to find out they suck at soldering or you just make a mistake that ruins a board or something. My drone goggles n radio cost over 1000$. My car cost 2000$ 🤔

I got the nazgul5 v2(blitz f7 FC, blitz e45 2-6s 45a ESC)
Something happened to the ESC. I didn't even know until I took it apart to conformal coat my stack. I'm posting a picture of it rn on my community tab so you can see the lil black chip/box that's swolen.
Any idea what happened? How can I prevent this from happening to another 50$ESC? Is a more expensive ESC less likely to fail this way?
And mostly: do you think my FC is also about to fail?
I only know one person into the hobby and he told me my esc is bad that I shouldn't fly it anymore or it might catch on fire, and that I should buy a whole new stack cuz my FC is probably about to go out as well?

Hmm, interesting. I'm no expert with the intricacies of electronic components, but I definitely wouldn't continue to fly that ESC if that component is swollen. I'm not sure its fair to assume the FC is about to go, i'd probably just get a new ESC for now.
You defenatly dont need a degree to build a fpv drone. Yes its a learning curve but its not that hard. Second the dji o3, hdzero walksnail are competely diffrent systems. They are desihned for different purposes. You can't just say dji o3 is superior to everything else and I can give examples why It's not. The dinamic range of the o3 camera is bad, it performs sooo bad at night, the vtx is big, you can't replace the lens, you have to buy a whole new camera and give dji even more money. The latency is so bad in comparison to hdzero and its worse than walksnail, not by a lot but it's still worse. I hope that is enough😅
The average pilot (and even a lot of racers) cannot tell the difference in latency of an o3 and hdzero, I can assure you of that! If they say they can, they're probably lying. But even if they can, they're likely not skilled enough to be able to capitalize on the extra ~20-30ms of speed considering the average human has a reaction time of ~200ms.
Dynamic range and low light do leave something to be desired I'll give you that, but hdz and wokesnail also don't record in 4k, OR have anywhere near the range and penetration. Yes the O3 has its issues and I won't dispute that, but the video quality, and penetration AND the possibility to use the same camera as an action cam blows everything else out of the water right now. I'd love for that to change though, because that would mean competition is driving improvement.
There is no point in recording 4k because I don't want motion blur in my fpv feed. About the latency- here we aren't talking about reaction time, it,s hard to explain but when you do fast turns and fast adjustment you expect the gate to be in position x and when it's not there on time it's desorioenting and that hurts consistancy. The other thing is size-way to big for a racing drone. Immidge quality-its the pritiest but I can't get over the dynamick range. I dont need more detail than what walksnail or the vista cameras give me. I will agree that the range and penetration are the best but thats all. At the end it comes down to what you want but that's why I'm so triggered. You can't just say dji o3-best withoutout mentioning all off this

If you're saying that O3 isn't fundamentally the best choice for racing, I'm not going to dispute that because you're right- based on the data. But in practice, I maintain that most pilots wouldn't be able to tell a difference, much less capitalize on that difference. Have you tried the O3 at the highest fps/lowest latency settings? If not, give it a try and see how you like it! Give Alex Vanover an O3 and he'd still smoke all the competition in any given race vs hdz fanboys. At the end of the day its all what you want as you said, and I want in this order: best video quality, best penetration, best range, lowest weight (bc i don't need a gopro anymore), and durability. O3 has all 5 of those things.
