Which millennial movie is YOUR favorite? Let us know in the comments!
You guys should really change the title of this video or something. It's actually pretty insulting. As someone mentioned in the comments you're practically saying Micheal Cera is the face of our generation.... Like our generation is weird, we have trap rappers talking about dealing drugs but mention anime characters in their songs while remixing Micheal Bolton songs... And like I'm no genius but aren't other people in other countries like the UK part of the generation of Millennials?
@@soultakerx2 This channel is very US-centric.
Argo, Miramax studio, Bridge to Terabithia, Halloween 1 and 2 reboot films, The Book of Henry, Lions For Lambs, The Dark Knight Trilogy, Planet of the Apes 2001 reimagining, Redacted 2007 Film, Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer, Sucker Punch, and The Weinstein Company.
I like that movie where Micheal Cera plays an awkward kid in uncomfortable situations and slapstick humor
So all of them lmaoooo
Oh, I like that movie too. Remember when he said that quirky line?
And he had that one girlfriend. What was her name? Her? I don't know, maybe she was funny or something?
@@georgeprchal3924 Egg
Remember that series that was really smartly written and he played an awkward kid in uncomfortable situations and slapstick humour. That one really made use of his range
It seems as if Micheal Cera is the representation of a generation.
I was just about to put that here 😂
You know
Michael Cera is in like all of these lol
He has a portrayal of a High Schooler in any movies.
@@CamSiv996 I loved that half in the bag episode when they compared jesse eisenberg to him, and said Cera was like 45 now even though he is young than Eisenberg.
The god of millennials
Yup
Seth Rogan
Zach Galianfinakis
Emma Stone
Ellen Page
All are on par with Cera
What about shrek? Or even grinch who stole Christmas...
Its not millennials favorite movies, it's movies that define millennials... I guess
@@derfdilla how would Spider-Man fit that description?
@@DanielRodriguez-lp4xd Spiderman was a cultural phenomenon at the time.. spider man and xmen is entire reason we have the mcu now, those showed that there is a mainstream audience for these stories. They had a huge impact on millennials
@@derfdilla yeah but there supposed to show the culture in the movie itsself
Millennials are one of the most talked-about generations, and these films helped to define who they are.
Millennials are a generation who came of age with technology, from smartphones to social media. They have experienced world-changing events from 9/11 to the financial recession of 2008 and are supporters of equal rights and treatment for people of all backgrounds, regardless of gender, race, orientation, identity, or age.
And they will be the first generation to flip us into marxism.
wow, this is truly... pointless
@TheRapper10000 agreed. but I don't know if it's MORE problems or just ignoring all the existing problems
@Human Bean the educated class who supports socialism are always the first to be murdered by marxist regimes. Good luck comrade.
These comments are fucking hilarious after the storming of Capital Hill! Those were some old looking Millennials! Fucking everyone needs to calm down
Basically just Michael Cera being Michael Cera
Born in 1983. I believe Home alone, Jurassic Park, I know what u did last summer, 10 things i hate about u, never been kissed should be on this list..
100%. They have listed films for kids born in the 90s, not the 80s!
I definitely don't want to be thought of as a "Millennial." (Born in '84)
Born in 1992 and 100% agree with you. Most of these movies did nothing for me.
Napoleon Dynamite for example was pretty big in the US but not exactly worldwide. Not a single person I know has seen it, most probably never even heard of it, so I was surprised to see it on the list.
@@zzzmariana cant speak for people born outside of the US, but I was born in ‘93 and everybody I know has seen this movie and continue to reference it today
@@HenryPPMN yes, I've heard about it from an american friend and she loves it haha but I'm from Brazil, that's my point. Some of these movies didn't make sense because they're unknown outside the US, to define an entire generation I would pick a worldwide phenomenon. American Pie and Toy Story were better choices imo.
WatchMojo doesn’t get this generation....
Lists are voted on by viewers
@@PrivateJoker0119 I'm not talking about the list. I'm talking about the commentary
Nah the list sucked ass too. Lol 🤣
Still waiting for that “Top 10 Hentai” list WatchMojo
More like “Top 10 Censor Bars of the Century”
Take note that WatchMojo's lists are ranked by how famous something is,
So it would be safe to assume that the top 1 in the hentai list would be Overflow 🤣🤣
@@GioGio7209 You were expecting an agreement, BUT IT WAS ME, DIO!
@Jm Dromanah I try to be

Superbad was ahead of its time and is my all time favorite movie 🍿
No mention of Lion King? Literally every millennial I know says he/she grew up with that movie.
Yes!
Project X wasn’t even mentioned?
I know right
Ms Mojo. You forgot Parent Trap & Hocus Pocus as honorable mentions🥺 But the Hood Millennial movies, the Wood, ATL, R&H Cinderella, Lottery Ticket, Set it Off, Belly, THE PLAYER’S CLUB
Roll bounce should be here. But we know watch mojo is racist af!!!
I miss those days when Hollywood made great movies with original stories unlike nowadays most of movies that we have are sequels, reboots, remakes, live action adaptation. I can't even imagine what movies would look like in the next 10 years, I'm so afraid......😔😔
Isn’t it a little early for us Millennials to start doin the whole “back in my day everything was better” trope?
Don't forget the pushed socio-political propaganda, that's the worst of all
@@KnockManJo That was in every film since the start of the 20th century. The only difference is that those filmmakers weren't open about their intentions until the film came out. For example, Charlie Chaplin and Orson Welles made films critiquing the elites, fascism, nihilism, anti-unionism, Hooverism, and try to connect with an audience recovering from a world war. Thanks to a more social tolerance to a marketplace of ideas; ideas that I agree and/or disagree with; authorial intentions can now be openly mentioned.
@@GamingOptimist uhh yeah pretty much
@@rickardkaufman3988
That's not my point. There's was a period not too long ago where the art was put first and any kind of strong socio-political message second, if at all. Nowdays way too many movies and especially series put unnecessary political ideology first, regardless of it being conducive and of service of the art. This is an obvious tendency of the last few years, especially in regard to some precise political ideologies.
I feel like this list might be someone’s personal list.
I thought it was just me lol
So this is basically just “Top 10 Michael Cera movies?”
@Dizi Editleri sure, i saw u have Walking Dead and Mr Robot videos, my 2 fav shows
10 That Define Me as a Millennial: The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Accepted, Her, Thank You for Your Service, Kick-Ass, Knocked-Up, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Grandma's Boy, Before Sunset, and This is Where I Leave You
Mix your list with Watchmojo’s and you have mine :-)
Accepted. 🗣🔊
LOLOL. I’m so glad they used that clip for Easy A. I legit died at that part 😹
Superbad was the one I particularly felt was very true to being a teen in the 2000s and it came out a year or 2 after I graduated from high school so it felt really authentic. Gen X'ers have the best teen movies in my opinion but Superbad is one of my favorite films ever.
Being born in 1995 this video is pretty much spot on. Legit I remember having Woody and Mr. Potaetoe Head as toys. I remember every time I got off from highschool me and The guys would hangout and Just vibe out, doing stupid shit. Then the social network is legit asf. How all of us Millenials are strivng to survive and Make it to the top, regardless of how the last generation made living harder for us and How we can still manage to be the face of millionaire companies and Inspire the many younger generations to come. If anything I can honestly say I am proud to be part of Gen-Y. Gen-Y I also noticed is stuck between the Boomers and The Gen - Z kids 😂
GY/Millennials are between GX & GZ.
Amazing list. These movies are really amazing 😄😄
what a great list of movies. I remember this movies when they came out...this movies are still on my all time favorite list..I have such great memories thanks to this movies. Thanks for sharing this WatchMojo :)
Garden State is one of my favorite movies.
Harry Potter really formed a new magical spiritual uprising amoung too that has inspired magic as normal.
Nice list 💕 Michael Cera
Big smiles
I’ll never ever get tired of watching The Social Network.
Agreed. Always find something new every time
It’s my favourite movie of all time. Aaron Sorkin and David Fincher are geniuses. Superbad is also brilliant, they nailed the top 2 if you ask me.
That movie was a snooze fest
Also you are dead on about Spider-man being a massive moment for Gen Y. It blew me away when it came out and I never forgot it. I never got super into Garden State but it definitely was a HUGE movie for my generation as we went into our 20s.
"Mean Girls" is my favorite one from this Top 10 list. I watched it in the days leading up to my first day of high school. :-)
That uncle Ben quote always hits 🥲
I was literally watching Scott Pilgrim vs The World for the first time on Netflix when I saw this
Great list and movies
So every millennial is just like Michael Cera? Got it.
Perks of Being a Wallflower
A great movie but not the best
Quality film. I met Ezra Miller in London last year. I didn't remember his name so I asked if he was the guy from Perks of being a Wallflower. He was cool about it and gave me a selfie.
It's a very good movie, but most of millenials were already adults for a while when it came out. I personally couldn't relate to the characters because I wasn't a teenager anymore.
Maybe it fits more gen z.
@@zzzmariana Nah its definitely a millenials film came out around the same time the tail of end of millenials were entering high school
@@zzzmariana there's a film in the honorable mentions from 2017, five years after Perks. Perks was also only 2 years after the #1 pick.
Where's White Chicks?
Not here because it's incredibly racist.
I really liked this list 😊
I luv Scott Pilgrim vs the World it's a Really underrated Movie, but it's good
Yeah, I also love that movie and not just because it was filmed in my hometown
Yeah
That’s shit I’m sorry
No it isn't. It's a movie that tries too hard to be cool. It's just as bad as Ready Player One in terms of "member this?" call backs. It only gets a pass because the callbacks are for more obscure subjects. None of the people who love the movie had ever heard of the Clash at Demonhead game...much less played it. So esoteric = cool, in the world of hipsters.
I remember watching a few of these in various classes in school, aaaahh... Memories! :)
Born in 98' and I've seen all of these movies, most of them, during the time it came out
Same. Almost all of these movies played When Gen Z were either Toddlers or little kids. I was born in 2000 so I second this
They literally had a movie from 2017 on this list saying it defines their generation... but the movie was about a teenage girl.. no millennial was a teen when this came out. Lmao
But you were born too late ha
im born in 98 also, and i feel like there's a major cultrual difference in gen z. i think it is social media/smartphones which came out in the 2000's but didn't become popular until 2012, so i can defentiely remember a time period where people were not on their phones and i loved all these movies when they came out. i would say millenials should end at 99 instead of 95.
@@mightymallardz768that doesn’t mean it defines the generation z it’s the movies during your childhood not when you’re coming out of the womb lmao
this is basically my netflix account. born in 1986.
Sorry i can only agree with one movie these films only represents one demographic of American millennial
Love this list. Boyhood, Garden State, and (500) Days of Summer picks are strong. The Social Network at #1 is a slam dunk. Burning would be another great addition. It's like an updated Great Gatsby.
Great pick for number one!!!
I love Juno. When it first came out, I went to see it with my Mom. I wasn't a teen mom or anything but I related to Juno's character. I felt like they finally had a character that was like me lol. Also, the music was amazing, and underrated.
I still jam to Spider MAN Soundtrack!! HERO is still my favorite song! For all my youngins out there it's by Chad Kroeger ft Josey Scott!
I forgot about that song! 😄
So no how high?
Pineapple Express?
The Interview?
I got a notification for a video and right now is 5:39 pm and I just realized I accidentally clicked on notifications so that’s my bad gonna go back to sleep now
Arguably the best list they have made. Social Network and Superbad are both phenomenal movies in their own way.
Beowulf one of the many movies I saw but forgotten the same applies to Supercross the Movie
Nice movies that defined a generation
Indeed
Oh man, this list is so me!
whoa,I'm early. Superbad is one of my fave movies. Is fight club in here?
Nah, that was on the Gen X list. You are too young for that champ.
@@goldfishprime i'm born 1989 but I guess yeah i'm still too young by the time it showed. People my age loved it by the time we're able to watch it during our edgelord years tho,
@@PrivateJoker0119 I just joking with you. We grew up watching movies our parents gave us, or we thought were cool. I watched Star Wars on VHS tapes, not the official ones. Movies before I was born. We didn't wait until someone was making a movie about teenagers when we were teenagers.
@@goldfishprime i reckon i would say the whole "gen x/y" thingy depends on your country.. since gen y and millennials are the pussy kind do of generation in the sense that they were guarded from anything that might be considered dangerous..
when and where i grew up nobody cared or even bothered looking for ratings.. as a little child i was (say anything under 10 years old) watching old westerns from the 60s and horror + action movies during the 70s and 80s..
todays kids however are guarded from pretty much anything and there are even laws about wearing a helmet when you ride your bike.. like come on.. talk about going against darwinism.
@Human Bean a man's garbage could be another man's treasure lol. Yeah it's not the 'best movie' out there but I like it, I like dumb movies where I can turn off my brain after work.
Can you do top 10 movies / shows with the same name
Watchmojo: If you like what you're hearing...
Me: I never like what I'm hearing
Geeze, I've seen every one of these movies 😭😭😭😭 take me back!!!!
Definitely Spider-Man trilogy, dark knight trilogy, the first 3 pirates movies and walle, up, bolt & ice age first three movies
As a pure bred millennial I LOVE and approve of this list. 🥺😭 good times
Yes I agree🥺🥺
How come American Pie isn't in the top 10?
I really enjoyed 8 of these but I have literally never heard of Boyhood or Garden State
Garden State isn't bad. I'd give it a shot. Good soundtrack and good acting.
Good video
I wore a Vote for Pedro hoodie in 3rd grade after I got it in Christmas '05!
Movies that define only the last few years of Milenialls is a more accurate title.
I’m an older millennial 82 and Empire Records, Clueless, Jaw Breaker, and Drop Dead Gorgeous definitely define my teenage and fashion years.😁
Andrew Garfield should've won an oscar from Social Network.
I'm the only one who's glad he didn't win.
WatchMojo "mom's spaghetti"
Me remembering Unus Annus: "Nervous"
The movie Remember the Daze always hits home for me.
I have seen every movie on this list as well as the Honourable mentions
Most of these hit with the early 2000s kids
Yep.
I'm from 2003 and I really like most of them.
Superbad is my fav millennial movie
McLovin !!!!!!!
McLovin is still my screen name in every online game. McLovin!!
Random Fact:

Sounds fake
The fact that "Project X" was overlooked... and a lot of peole don't know about it is a SHAME 😢
Can’t take this list seriously without Step Brothers
That's not a defining movie because Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly are part of Generation X. And it's a terrible movie, too.
As a Gen Z I must say I have only watched Spiderman and the social network. I haven't even heard of the others
whats your birth year?
I’ve seen all except for “easy A” but mean girls was my millennial movie. I saw it was I was 16 and I kept saying fetch.
The hangover, back when everyone in middle school was getting their parents to sign their movie ticket to get into a rated R movie
Awesome
Michael cera took three different spots as a pretty major character on this list, I'm so proud 🥺
Finally some movies for my generations
So was Bigger, Longer and Uncut considered a Gen X movie? I'm right on the border so it's difficult sometimes for me to define the generations based on 1996-2004 media.
do top 10 Things people Want to See in hilda Season 2
uhm, sorry where is Borat??
Even though I was born in ‘83, I never identified with gen Y. But I freaking love at least half of these movies.
Scott Pilgrim is one of the most underrated movies. Its so good and should legit be considered one of the best comic book adaptation movies ever. IMO.
It's true. You mention Napoleon Dynamite or Tobey Maguire's Spiderman. You have my attention. Haha
Can you do "top ten man on the internet"
I connect with all these movies. Guess I'm a millennial now.
So is you born 1981 n after me 1978 generation x I like some movies on here
I'd add Project X to this list. Every millennials heard stories of "that" house party they didn't attend but whishes they did.
I heard the girl from juno is the same voice actress that plays ellie in the last of us
I like THE SOCIAL NETWORK and the honorable mentions of TOY STORY and 8 MILE and I love SPIDER-MAN!
It's good to see Napoleon Dynamite and The Social Network here, but Toy Story is only an honorable mention?! Are you kidding me?! That film was groundbreaking on so many levels!!!
This would have been a good list of the “Honorable Mentions” were in the list. American Pie (Franchise), 8 Mile, were defining and where’s X-Men.
I only like 8 of the movies mentioned, and almost half of them are in the honorable mentions.
Superbad is a thoughtful film about a bromance between two young men and their wacky attempts to commit date rape.
Kinda wanted to rip on the choices but like.. yeah... I like basically all of these. 500 days of summer would be an easy list topper for me. Would probably throw in American Beauty as well, though that focuses on both Millennials and those who were raising them and dealing with mid-life crisis's at the time.
Love Juno!! 🤩
As an elder millennial I would replace Spiderman, Superbad, and Scott Pilgrim with The Breakfast Club, The Sandlot, and Stand by Me
I loved the movie, "Kung Fu Hustle" because it crammed in every homage to American cinema possible while still celebrating the Asian world. I just thought it was fun! I loved Juno and a million ways to die in the west, but also requiem for a dream and grave of the fireflies. I just like different films from all eras. There is a great Lillian Gish silent film out there too, " Broken Blossoms" which really explored all kinds of love, natural and unnatural, and showed us the life could be cruel and short, yet beautiful. It's worth watching to see that even back in the early days, people were exploring "forbidden topics" ....
Ok. My go to millennial flic is Pulp Fiction, Requiem for a Dream and American History X.
Mean Girls was robbed...
"Scott Pilgrim Vs the world" is my favourite move of all time
Should be "Top 10 Depictions of Millennials" not "Top 10 Movies that Define Millennials", because the defining movies for Millennials are ones that influenced their childhood or teenage years or their young adult years. Stuff like the original "Batman" film from 1989, or Space Jam, or Jumanji, maybe the first Harry Potter film...."Toy Story" was actually a good fit.
Born in 1982 and never saw most of the movies shown in this video except Toys Story but back then I was a teen and 8Miles was already an adult . Wondering which generation I'm being part of really ?
