I have actually been to Svalbard (back in 2018), and it is my favorite place I’ve ever been. Truly a remarkable place.

Winters where I live, in New Zealand have also changed, I can remember when I was at age 8, in 1977 we used to have snow, I have not seen snow at all since then...

@@reuireuiop0 History didn't begin the day you were born. Floods and droughts are all within historical norms. Even the IPCC makes this claim. And if people are dying from these calamities today, the issue, as always is poverty, not climate. That's why people die in Africa and not New Zealand.
Data proves, easily verified, that deaths from natural disasters *including every single climate related disaster* has been in precipitous decline for the last hundred years. This is even more remarkable when one considers the population of the globe in the 1800s was only 1 billion and technology was seriously limited.
As far as 2030 or 2050 is concerned, it's aligned with the endless climate mantra: "Just you wait, it's going to be bad, you'll see, better be afraid". Repeat decade after decade in perpetuity.

No West Antarctica glaciers sliding into the ocean just yet, but lately an article been published the first small land glacier breaking (Hektoria on W.A. peninsula) That still be minute mm rise. Serious stuff will arrive when big ones like Thwaites or Pine start moving.
As for your history lesson, your don't look back far enough. Before Pleistocene Ice Age, Mid Pliocene warm period with similar (slight bit lower) carbon dioxide Atmos concentration, comparable ocean geography and plant life, sea levels were some 30-50 m higher than today. Better go watch them cryosphere videos instead of typing pre meditated

it's not that easy in the west. We have the illusion of choice and vote based on that. As a resident of the Gulf Coast of Florida with daily access to the shoreline for decades I have watched the ocean rise, take the beaches, invade properties and overtop sea walls built decades ago.
And you know that the ocean has never rose or topped those sea walls before?

29:35 - We always take our shoes off when we are inside in the Nordic countries. It's not just a Svalbard phenomenon. We do the same thing in mainland Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Iceland. All year, not just in the winter. Keeps dirt outside where it belongs.

32:54 are they using pumped hydro? Or just the flow batteries (I assume those batteries are flow batteries)? Or producing hydrogen? There's got to be a way of storing the massive amounts of energy available in the summer months for us in the winter.
Thank you! Cars, factories, and from producing oil and gas -- yes, that's right. There are other sources, but they're minor compared to those (except buildings: that's the other really big single sector, along with steel and cement).
Ghg's from thawing permafrost will produce 100-1000Gt of CO2e emissions by 2100. The upper limit is roughly 30 years of our current emissions.
And recent studies says that similar lids that pushes methane from one place to another can be found in the oceans leading deep methane to the surface and to the atmosphere. If this happens in a large scale, then these emissions can be even bigger than permafrost thawing. If ocean floor methane is released in deep water, it hardly reaches surface due to soaking in the water column and due to bacterial eating. But in shallow areas, there is not enough volume nor time to act and most of the methane is released from the ocean to the atmosphere.
Some of these ocean methane layers can be released in a huge eruption that would ruin entire planers weather and climate. (Some extreme estimates says that one 50Gt release of methane could lead up to 16C warming with other forcings.)
The wonderful thing about the poles is that the very top atmosphere is full of gases that migrate from top towards the bottom around the whole world those are the ones that have heating and cooling affected but the currents of space shadowing the earth literally gets super shadow and then super light these waves have a lot to learn about how we are all affected by them sometimes space dust and multiple gravity practical information is collected from the beginning but impossible to complete the process of creating a model of orbital that is around us

Had 3 years of Soldier time at IT leader in the German Hill Soldier School I also was training avalanche rescue and so learn it depends on the kind of snow levels.
So on an older a bit melting and refrozen layer a fresh dry snow is dangerous = as there is no grip together.
Then you have the steep of the area ...
Our avalanche people had to dig inside the snow layers to see that.
Hope you get the change to take part of this 'education' I just have seen beside my main work, but as I ski walked up and waited that report in the morning I was aware of it well - for my own security been single. Beside I always dropped a tour plan onto them in my military post - if something happen.
And how do the avalanches they prevent effect sea ice?

Climate change is a huge issue, and dealing with it is overwhelming. Humans will likely cope inadequately, and there will be much conflict due to resistance to climate refugee migration. It's estimated there will be 2 billion climate refugees. This is a number that is hard to grasp.
True power is... information, is knowledge and education, is about sharing informations in order to take decisions, only united we can change things, saving the balance that is the proper climat saving this paradise on earth before we lose everything 😢😢😢
Well,.... there is good news. The melting of the ice stopped about 17 years ago according to the IPCC!! The level it is now is probably the "normal" level. In 1979 there was an exceptionel amount of ice because a pretty cold period ended then! Antarctica has become significant colder the last 40 years. That's amazing, isn't it? Breaking record after record cold.
The neighborhood is going nowhere people just be assured, it's going to be here we aren't so assured to be here to see it though.
Just think of the upside, all that multi million dollar beachfront property becomes fish habitat.
Imagine if Ancient diseases and viruses were to be reintroduced into the air after melting.

Despite our puny efforts to reduce energy consumption, it is put off by what we use. Battery cars! Okay, but where does the energy to charge them come from? why drive a huge car? Why a four to 7 passenger car for one person to go to work? Why TV are getting bigger and bigger. Why are we having more and more TV. We are a spoiled society that will not change until we have no choice to change.
Everything looks brand new. Is it wise to keep building all our human crap everywhere???
I'd like to be optimistic, lime the woman at the end, but as of right now, all we have in the kit and the horizon is hopefully slowing things down. Which means there's inevitabilities. Reactive politics that want things to stay the same have a lot of literal and figurative purchasing power in the world. It's not that we're doomed, but some places in the world definitely will be before too long. Today it's "Oh but it's too expensive to transition at scale." Timorrow it will be, "it's too expensive to put in coastal defenses." And in basically 2 living generations, the year 2200, the people around at that time will be facing the imminent and global question of needing to migrate cities inland, and that could take up a huge portion of the economy. By 2300, 3 or 4 living generations from now, if we miss 2100 emissions targets, up to 6% of the global land area could be lost under the waves. From the loss of those cities alone, that's presently 1/3rd of the global economy. I'm sure they will move or figure something out, so the economy and economic outputs will move. But you're talking abijt a scale of impact that is akin to losing 1000 years of economic out put in the next 275 years, all hinging on the actions or inaction of the next 77 years. A lot at stake. It's a bit like Paul Revere alarming everyone that the British are coming, but not enough people listen or care. Or the scale of the destruction or disruption could be on the scale of the Mongol invasions and the black plague. In 200 or 300 years, it'll be the ancient underwater ruins of places like Miami, NYC, London, and the world over. 17 of our mega city regions and their economies today, gone. The people of the not too distant future are going to be rugged and going to have to deal with a lot, they're going to have to be very adaptive, whereas we have the luxury of our broader ignorance and complacency. Hopefully, optimistically, there's still time, especially for the foul and reactive politics to die off.
You need to research sea level rise since the last glacial event 25,000 years ago. Hint it's over 350 feet. And how did it melt without gas guzzlers driving around? Canada was completely covered in ice up to 2 miles thick. The northern US and Europe was too. Where did that go?
And when you change the wording from global warming to climate change, people get suspicious.
Land around the U.S. is sinking. Here are some of the fastest areas.
Imagine Earth’s surface is like a stack of pancakes. The pancakes, or layers of soil and rocks, may appear fairly evenly stacked and fluffy. Over time though, the stack can become compressed, thinner and shorter.
Scientists observe this downward motion of land, called land subsidence, across the planet. While some regions of land experience uplift, many parts of Earth’s surface are sinking - fast. Scientists are especially concerned for sinking locations near the coast, which are at a higher risk for flooding as sea levels rise in a warming world. Hurricanes and extreme rainfall events can also bring more damage to such low-lying areas.
But understanding this slumping land motion is not simple, scientists say. Even within the same city, some regions may be sinking at faster rates than other areas.
“If we look at the data, we don’t see a city as a whole, uniform society. We generally see regions of hot spots where you can see parts of cities subsiding depending on what is happening,” said NASA scientist David Bekaert, who has analyzed land subsidence in the United States and worldwide.
Some land subsidence, Bekaert said, is related to deep natural processes over long periods of time, such as responding to plate tectonic activity or to the retreating of the glaciers from the last Ice Age. Other sinking is linked to human activity, including extracting oil, water or minerals from underground. In cities, buildings can also add weight and push land down.
Many of the fastest sinking places in the world appear in populated areas in southeast Asia largely because of groundwater extraction, but the United States also faces substantial land subsidence. There, you may not notice land settling around you in your daily life, but scientists found that many places are sinking faster than global sea levels are rising - increasing flood risk in coastal cities. (Sea levels are rising at an average global rate of about 3.4 millimeters, or 0.13 inches, per year.)
Regions with the highest land subsidence in the United States are mainly located along the East and Gulf Coast.

@@oldballtango3844 What you said made very little sense. Overdevelopment is a huge problem because of our continued and increasing use of fossil fuel energy, that there are not sufficient vegetation to cycle CO2 into oxygen.
There's no doubt fossil fuels need to be phased out as a primary form of energy. US already spends billions every single year on disaster response, exacerbated by climate change. It's only going to get worse.

This indeed occurred. I have speculation delayed effect of all the smoke industrial and vehicle exhaust of the War. But regardless late 70s were one time the Alps grew since records started century plus before.

Well, we're looking forward to the melting of the Glaciers over land masses. We've been advised that this will raise the sea level about 60'. Well, is so happens that our home is about 60' above the level of a tidal waterway a 1/4 mile away. When the sea rises, we will have a highly desired waterfront lot. Keep the Global Warming (aka Climate Change) coming.

Melting ice turns to water enters ocean evaporates up falls as rain or snow. Global precipitation is up. Thus Antca gets more precipitation and still cold enough it sticks ergo that is water removed from hydrologic cycle to replace the ice melting and joining hydrology
