Integrity always wins! ... We'd all be sat there wondering the flip-side, "Man, imagine if I hadn't done that 'hit' single?!" Hindsight 20/20. Great interview, great chemistry - all chill, and flow. So amazing to listen to Josh Rouse's story (or any musician's) outside of the typical circuit media - with Joseph Arthur interviewing, it's always an intimate invitation into his Universe with such authentic exchange (& music knowledge!!!). Both these guys' music have accompanied on important life moments - in cars, in my ears, at the cabin under the stars. And now here - together - plaid in stereo, man! Terrific guest!
Ah! The Cameron Crowe fact - thanks for that! It explains his "Aloha" movie on Netflix! Fell off my sofa when I heard Blue Nile, Kurt Vile, NEIL HALSTEAD, Josh Ritter, VANCOUVER SLEEP CLINIC, and a shit tonne more fabulous others on that soundtrack.
You can imagine smoking a doobie with Josh and Joseph and the creativity that would flow ! Man that would be a dream come true . You guys should def collaborate man.

"I was talking to Mark Kozelek the other day..." .... (as you do). Had no idea he was in the Crowe movies! (True story: My guitar teacher passed on teaching me Red House Painters songs, he said - this song [Japanese to English] doesn't go anywhere. And focused me on my Joseph Arthur and Josh Rouse tunes!)

Ha! Comment about Mark Kozelek's Bill Hicks/swearing 'comedic' interludes between songs - yup. A bunch of folks at the Ottawa (Ontario, Canada) Folk Festival were totally turned off by it - and I actually went for a piss during his old set at Bluesfest in Ottawa years ago cuz I thought he was deranged (lol!) But he's not unlike Joe Jackson shouting out at the crowd, last time Jackson played our Bluesfest, he accurately questioned the sea of bad-fashion ball-caps in his audience. Then he inhaled a fly. True story! He sorta sang through it - but maybe it was torture for making fun of people (even though he was spot-on).
