Why did the sea monster eat five ships that were carrying potatoes? No one can eat just one potato ship.
Ha ha ha ha that’s great
I like potatoes! Thank you. Stay safe.
Me too! Thanks for watching
Why not gas right away? Or mabye store at a cooler temp to prevent sprouting. We store seed at a cooler temps. Either way it's fun to see how different regions grow and store spuds. I dont get in the storing side of it but we keep spuds for eight months. And wet years dont help either.
We don’t want to spend the money to gas if they are going to be taken out fairly quick. It doesn’t hurt the potatoes to gas just the wallet.
Some years they have taken all of our cellars out before Christmas. Not this year they are just getting started probably on Monday.
@@idahofarmer I Understand. We grow some table stock and it has seemed slow. I mostly deal with seed and its all refrigerated at 38 degrees. Storage spuds is hard. Ive seen spuds melt because of lack of attention.
Do you have good fry color at 45 degrees? We raise Burbank’s and caribous for McCain’s but usually we keep everything between 48-53 degrees
Ours seem to be just fine these are all rangers. We used to sell them to lamb Weston and they liked them. Now they all get turned into potato flakes.
Your grandpa goes up and down stair better than I do and I'm 19 years younger. Are you going to the ag expo in Pocatello? I try to make it, would love to run into you there.
I will be there. I’m not sure what day. Agri service is taking our new Fendt combine to show and we will have some banners on it.
Cool! I will look for it. I think I will go Wednesday.@@RockyMountainFarmer
Thanks for an interesting video. The Farmers around Southern Manitoba grow a lot of potatoes as well but a person don’t not get to see a full potato storage as we call then where you call them potato cellar. Funny how different parts of the world call the same thing different names ah?
I’m glad you enjoyed it. It is interesting what things are called elsewhere.
@@RockyMountainFarmer For sure!
So when they pickup X many "sacks" of potatoes is that a unit of measure, or do you actually have to bag them for shipment to the processor?
Also, what is the normal percentage of spoilage in storage that is expected?
So a sack is 100 pounds. And we usually have about 5 percent that spoils.
Can’t believe you don’t check a potato storage for a month.
We check it fairly regularly
I used to walk the tunnel and top of the pile twice a week.
Why was your humidifier in that cellar that had the sprouting set to manual instead of auto? That probably caused the water problem.
Because that system has some issues and it wouldn’t run on auto
Are the taters sorted before storing them or when you unload them? What do they mainly go towards making?
We pick as much of the dirt, rot, and vines as they go into the cellar so they are pretty clean. These will all go to frito lay.
What is type of potato in first silo
By the way ı just discoverd your channel ı really love it (ı am small scale farmer and student )
Welcome! All of our potatoes are russet rangers
In the 3rd cellar why was there a dip towards the back of the stack?
It was how the piler piled it up I’m not sure why he did that
Out of curiosity, I know potatoes are essentially “ exempt “ from FSMA. And I believe you said most of your potatoes go to pringles? Do you guys maintain GAP certification or do they require higher? We sell table stock and our sweet corn goes to wal-mart, so we have to maintain Harmonized GAP plus.
Yes, we maintain gap certification on all of our potatoes
That’s sweet, harmonized gap is a pain , paperwork alone is ridiculous
Yeah, it takes a lot of time to stay gap certified
Wow, your potatoes are big.
Yeah they are. That’s how we do it in Idaho
It's those 8 or 9 inches that amaze me. Worked for Clawson and I loved it.
We had some this year that were 14 inches
@@RockyMountainFarmer WOW!
Have you ever had to destroy a whole storage container full of potatoes?
We did have a contract in 2000 with a processor that didn’t want to pay for the potatoes so they rejected the contract and we had to dump and destroy our entire crop that year losing millions of dollars.
What do you sproutnip with when sprouts this size are present?
There is one called smart lock that takes the sprouts off
How many kpa on the fans?pil soul be level at top, prevent air escaping,
I’m not sure on that we just set the temp and humidity and it adjusts the fan speed to meet the needs
Don t trust you comuterised fans
What type of potatoes do you grow? Looks like some kind of russets?
These are russet rangers.
3:30 possible opportunity for a drone to inspect the top of the cellar?
Yes, I do have a drone and I do intend on doing that, I just didn’t have it with me that day
Now you can make malt vodka
Haha I’d rather not
Do you spray anything foliar for sprouts
We sprout nip with gas
