    I noticed this set when browsing and am happy you’ve reviewed them. Yes, the grays peeked my interest but as someone else said here if they had been released in a limited edition I may have purchased them. The orange looks “thin”, like it really should be more pigmented and is feeling its loss. Actually, to me they all seem to be like that. The grays also seem weak, and with their release it seems like W&N are jumping on the bandwagon grays are currently enjoying. Your reviews are always thorough and enjoyable to watch. Thank you.

    Hi Elisabetta, I wondered when someone would notices these. I bought the same set to add to a little set of greens and neutrals I was building from Marc Jackman. It fits in perfectly and adds a secondary colour selection to the rather idiosyncratic primaries I included. I love the entire collection, 21 very unusually colours that granulated and behave in their own way. These are not all the best lightfast but honestly they are as good as I need. I LOVE the ultramarine ash and Ostwald grey, lovely light neutrals. The other grey, darker is also lovely. The W&N go very well with the jackmans with very little surface gloss which I really like. I did I’d not even think to mix with this set yet, my principal reason for getting them was to complete this special set which as a lot of granulating colours. All that enjoyment yet to come. Thanks for showing me the possibilities. I really loved this set, more than my other way back sets from Schminke I think, maybe because I was actively looking for muted options.
    Hope you are having a good summer.

      @@lindyashford7744 thank you Lindy for your long comment. I’m really intrigued by Jackman…. Should I have a go? Also Wallace Seymour has very interesting neutrals…. PS I find lightfastness not always so important for my needs, I doubt my sketches are bound to be hanged for centuries 😂

      @lindyashford7744 2 месяца назад

      @@WatercolorElisabetta I like what I have seen of the Jackmans so far, initially I bought a little selection of seven greens, rather than buying the far more expensive DS or Schmincke granulating colours. They rewet easily, have a heavy pigment load when dried in pans, and when painted out have a pleasing Matt finish, no shiny surface. They are affordable enough to take a chance and their non granulating colours have some unusual pigments. Couldn’t resist!

    So I've thought this in one of your previous videos but I wasn't sure so I didn't say anything, but it almost looks like the sizing on your paper has gone bad. Paint shouldn't stain and "stick" there quite so much (on your swatching paper). What do you think? I loved seeing these colors and your painting.

    • @WatercolorElisabetta
      @WatercolorElisabetta  2 месяца назад

      Yes, the paper is not the best, but usually it behaves better! Maybe this unbearable heat doesn’t help (I hate AC so i don’t use it). On the other hand that’s the paper where I collect all my swatches and I would like to be consistent. Thank you for your comment Miranda!

    What an interesting way to make convenience mixes based on history. Is there a vermillion hue? It would be nice to see some separating mixes but I don’t know if there are any historical ones that separated.

    Winsor and Newton's permanence ratings on these seem way off. A mix of PG36 and PY138 is AA while a mix of PV37 and PR202 is B?? All four are lightfast organic pigments that should be an A. And then Ultramarine ash, a mix of two inorganic pigments is just A? The "old" Winsor and Newton would never give a new mix of two organic pigments an AA rating. As far as I am aware, this would be the first AA rating for an organic pigment, much less a mix, from Winsor Newton in their history.

      I thought it was a bit odd too, I admit. However, having worked for many years in a large food company, I know that big brands can’t afford to lie on labels. It’s a matter of reputation…so I make an act of faith and decided that I trust Winsor & Newton! It’s a brand I completely trust. But I agree, I had my doubts too! Btw, why do you say “old” W&N? I guess there is some information I miss. Have they had a change in ownership? I will check it out!

    • @WatercolorElisabetta
      @WatercolorElisabetta  2 месяца назад

      Hi! There could be more reasons..try putting water on paper and stop paint before the edge so it will naturally diffuse…or it can be the paper. When it’s hot I get more hard edges because the paint dries fast. Just experiment! Try working wet on wet anyway…
