I question really any nutrition advice from anyone. You really need to test some of the diets and macros etc and see what works for you. Honestly every diet I have tried has worked. For myself when I've eaten a carb heavy diet with not as much protein I get much stronger. I think it may come down to gut bacteria as well. Everyone is different.
I have a super slow metabolism and I got ripped at age 21 and had to go down to 900cal for last 4 weeks of pure hell. I say hell because while I was walking home from work and having cars filled with young girls stopping to ask me to lift my shirt and getting hit on when I went to strip clubs by the dang strippers I felt so death door like I quit. I did all that work to look so amazing and I quit cause of how bad I felt at 900calories. No idea what dieting hard for long time means if you never tried it. Dieting hard with shitty metabolism is way worse as you now have nutrient deficiencies to contend with. I was a true believer in this nowadays unheard of isocaloric theory. You basically eat equal amounts from all 3 macro nutrients. 75gms of protein max for 4 months and not a bit of strength loss. Going down to 75gms protein meant I was eating so little that just my breads and oats filled a good portion and so my sandwiches had maybe a thin slice of ham and thin slice cheese. There is a video going around by a protein doctor saying its crazy how little we actually need. The pros like Layne though still push this high protein.
Carbs are not a macro humans need to consume. Without modern farming his low protein diet would not exist . The body turns over around 400g of protein a day for maintenance alone, there is a recent study out that says carbs actually blunt muscle repair.
@@willcook403 Any at all, your body can and does make glucose from protein and that way it’s titrated not thrown in causing the insulin to spike several times a day , and sugar in the blood stream is toxic in large amounts causing glycation . We do well on ketones and fats with just enough glucose.
What amazes me is there is no mention in these studies of eating meat exclusively, it’s always they added meat and gained weight. Well meat has fat, eat that with carbs and the carbs/ sugars have to be lowered in the blood stream, so if there’s no room in the muscles or liver into fat cells they go. Meat isn’t the problem, mixing carbs with fat is.
Key thing he misses in terms of weight loss cycling is that it appears mostly this is water loss. People think they lose water, they are losing weight really as fat, which is not the case. People come into my gym with the sweatshirts on and hoodies up to sweat as much as possible. They drop out in a month or two.
My RMR is 2700, add to that the 1300 calories I burn during HIIT, Strength and Cardio training, and I need around 4500 calories a day to gain any weight.
