I'm 70 yrs old and I would take a GW any day over a Spyder. A GW will last a lot longer than a Spyder but you gotta maintain it. You know, change the oil, all the fluids, etc. You can't just get on it and not check anything. I'd say you have to maintain a Spyder too. I've ridden both and the GW is just a lot smoother than the Spyder. It's the GW for me anyday. Don't be knocking 70-year-olds that are still riding. We like to have fun too and one of these days you're going to be there.
The goldwing is much smoother. However the newer spyder with the bigger engine has improved over the older 990cc

you got a stripped base model f3 in the review with the lower power engine and softy suspension against a loaded gold wing. Get the F3-S which is the sport model or the F3-L for the loaded model. Better comparison.

Newbies, don’t fool yourself about not using gear because you have a third wheel. The third wheel will not offer protection. Wear all the gear all the time so you survive to become an experienced rider.
Jack McDaniel what are you talking about? A third wheel is much more safe than a 2 wheel motorcycle. Its fine to say you should still wear gear because you should, but dont fool yourself into thinking its on par with 2 wheel bikes.

Please educate yourself before you question someone with decades of experience and study. Go on the Internet and look up David Hough because I’m not the one to educate. Second, I have a can am Spyder available for me to ride at any time, and I have. Youre right, conpletely different experience, but your wrong, not more challenging whatsoever, thats foolish to say. Going around corners with a sport bike, you need pure knowledge and skill to complete the corner right, where as a spyder, the only challenge is keeping your body in check as it tries to throw you in the opposite direction. Dont insult my intelligence as I didnt yours, im just throwing my experience with them out there.

Enjoyed the vlog. Interesting that I just came across it today, because later I’m going out to try out a Goldwing trike. Last week I tried the Harley triglide. So it’s getting close to decision time. Oh I have also for fun tried the slingshot.
For younger people definitely they can am, for older people the gold wing is the way to go

randy beard That’s not necessarily true. Guys are getting 100k kilometres on their Spyders with only bare basic maintenance. Only major difference would be belt drive versus shaft drive really. Time will tell the longevity of the Spyder engine, but they are pretty darn reliable machines.

These two trikes! are incomparable. Both are built on totally different concepts. The steering alone is completely different, especially when turning on corners. Secondly these trikes are far too expensive for what they are compared to a good motorbike.

I'm 85 and just traded a Can Am RT Limited for a Goldwing trike. I took the curves on Tail of the Dragon, Triple Nickle and the Whole Hog on the Can Am as fast as the guys on their Harley Davidson, but I don't believe I could take the curves that fast on the GW trike. The steering is noticeably different on the trike vs the reverse trike. But, IMHO, the Can Am is under powered. I will stay the the Goldwing even though they cost twice as much as the Can Am. The GW technology is considerably superior to the Can Am but still not as advanced as an Indian trike.

The Goldwing is for old guys? I'm just turned 80 and I'd rather ride the Can Am any day. I don't personally own one but I've had good opportunities to ride my daughter in law's Can Am and I love it, except for that danged windshield distortion. Watch this video and notice how the yellow lines on the highway are all distorted.
I have found that the windshield distortion tends to throw me off on sharp bends at times and makes it hard to place the front wheels in that perfect line going around some sharp curves. That distortion can also throw you off when going over the tops of rolling hills, etc.
Some riders will say, 'doesn't affect anything since you are supposed to look OVER the top of the windshield.' True, but you can't always do that. There are times when you have to look through the windshield, such as topping a hill, etc.
Outside of that, the Can Am's stability is the thing to have. I have nothing against the Gold Wing, I love that six engine, but the version I prefer is the two 1998 Valkyries I owned. I also owned a Slingshot for two and a half years. The main claim to fame in either the Can Am or the Slingshot, and yes, the GoldWing TRIKE, your woman can be on there with you, in relatively safe comfort, much better than on a two wheel bike.
My main ride today? A 2017 Victory Octane with 105 HP and only 525 lbs. Supposed to be a cruiser but runs like a crotch rocket. The thing hauls, and I can back it uphill in gravel with just my feet. No need to hold the brake on a slight up or downhill at a light. I can do it with my feet. (Notice to other riders, if vehicles coming up behind, always hold the brake on so they see you stopped, just in case)
The Octane is light and fast, Oh yeah. I've already gave some youngsters on crotch rockets a surprise at the light.
I want a Goldwing with two front wheels like the Can-Am. Honda should really make one reverse trike Goldwing. I would buy it if I was a rich old Goldwing guy.

The windshield on that Spyder is horrible. The distortion of the lines and road is a big negative imo.
You need to go to a drag strip and run a quarter mile!
There's such a vast difference in price, they fall to 2 different demographics, that's the greatest driver of choice over anything else.
Driving threw urban areas and neighborhoods with lots of traffic is not a comparison video. The guy driving the spyder had his knees way up in the air. Not fitted for him at all. Get out in the country twisties and do curves at double the suggested speed. Do some straight races. I own a 17 F3 limited and would love to watch that!

Cool trikes, but too expensive for my budget. I'd probably get a used Wildfire WF650-T motorcycle and swap in a similar-sized Honda engine someday. I bet that'd be a reliable and cheap machine.

I'll take the Wing any day over the Spyder. For the main reason that the Wing can carry much more than the Spyder ever will. Plus you have a tried and true motorcycle (GoldWing) under you.

First when you make these videos all sorts of people view them. Some are experienced riders and some are new to bikes. Your modelling of riding in shorts with no gloves and thongs (I think you Yanks call them flip flops) is a poor example. The protective clothing is an option but not an option one should decline. Whilst these two machines would of course be much more stable than any two wheeler there's never any room for complacency. Two wheels up front especially with all the safety and stability features included on the Spyder is no comparison with an after market trike kit attached to a Goldwing. The suspension set up for the two front wheels is different from the two wheels on the back. Because of that the handling and riding characteristics are different. The Goldwing has an electronically operated reverse designed for the two wheel version so that the chance of a spill when reversing is reduced. In the case of the Spyder this is not an issue but even so reversing at slow speed is best and mostly what is needed. Enjoy your ride on whatever it is you are riding. One machine is not better than the other it is a case of what ride suits you. I repeat model good behaviour for all riders in your videos

The issue I have with the gold wing and Harley trikes. Why one wheel in front? It’s not a stable platform and was proven back in the late 80s. If they had 2 up front like the spyder I would consider if I had to get one.
My harley trike is very stable
Had a Can Am Rtltm for (4) years.First year 8,200 miles.Next 3 years total 4,000 miles.Reason multiple breakdowns (2) times 6 weeks in shop,several times 3 weeks and several 1-2 days.When I finally traded for a Harley triglide the dash instruments were not working.Surprise in the mountains 2 vs 1 front wheel was no different.Spyder Ltm was better equipped ,faster,carried more cargo,and warranty stated if you used a CanAm trailer ok.Loved the semi automatic shift.Harley better gas miliage ,seat more comfortable and no butt sweat,got 8,000 more miles on front tire vs CA back tire.And the BIGGY better service.
Add to my post 18,000 miles on Triglide and only oil changes.

Hey guys, we were on a trip two weeks ago and the trike in our group had a crash. He went off the curve and into a tree lined little gulley. His wife was with him and they both got banged up real bad. No major injuries, marks on the helmet from trees and riding jackets torn and obviously damaged. If not for the gear don't know how much worse it could have been. You gentlemen are a real bike dealer and your advice really shocks me. You tell riders to go to the darkside, rim contour and tire contour wont match, now no gear if on a trike. I just hope one day this lack of safety considerations dont bite you in the backside. As for us OLD Guys, I hope you will have ridden as long as I have, 50 yrs. I will no longer watch your channel and your flippant attitudes. Hope you don't get sued, yall seem like God fearing young men, just be more responsible.

Being that can am is so new its not feasible to see one with 800k, but I have seen one with 230k..don't act like Goldwings exist service free..they are definitely the gold standard for touring bikes, but I wouldn't say Spyders are trash either..

@@southpawsgarage Goldwing to Spyder apples and oranges...Goldwing trike to Spyder Honey Crispy to red delicious..let's face it they are both designed to do the same thing...carry 2 people without the need to balance in comfort with room for cargo...given the choice I would take the Spyder and you can't say a trike is more stable than a spyder because it's not. And reverse would be a big deal because unless you can park nose out the Goldwing trike would be a nightmare to maneuver out of a parking spot let alone if it were parked nose in on an incline. You can't push a 1k# trike around with ease. To each his own, but I stand by my statement of Can Am offering of their RT version is definitely a more viable option than a traditional trike for less $$$. The model in this video is not the model I would compare to a touring trike.

Bleh!!! I think I aged 20 years just watching 2 minutes of that video. I just cannot get in to these trikes. While the Can-Am will certainly out maneuver the Goldwing Trike, neither are even remotely appealing to me. There is a very limited market for these vehicles....I say vehicles because I can't call them "bikes". I suppose if I had a disability or too frail to balance a 900 pound bike, then maybe I'd consider riding one, but honestly by that point, I'd probably just stop riding altogether and look forward to spending my days watching old episodes of Golden Girls on cable.
Drove up to Quebec from Pennsylvania this summer, once past the border you couldn't throw a stone in the highway without hitting one of these 3-wheelers.
I have been riding two wheelers since time began, used to be the editor of motorcycle magazines in California back in the early 70s, but my recent opportunities the past few days has gotten me enthused by the Can Am. The one I put 300 miles on last week has the auto and I even like that. No, not going to give up my Victory Octane, but just to ride and relax, and put a woman on the back like I did with my wife, the Can Am is pretty nice. I notice in the video they say the Gold Wing can haul more. Did they know that the Can Am can be had not only with the storage under the hood in front, but THREE saddle bags in back? I'm pretty sure that with the front space, the Can Am can haul more.
