  • A pretty comprehensive detailing of what I pack for my trips on Jolene. (And also mostly for fun)
    “For Americans, it’s unnatural. This level of open ended discomfort, died long ago”
    -Robert Patrick 21 DAYS UNDER THE SKY
    On most trips, the hardships really do make the end result that much more special and rewarding! I don’t look to suffer, but there is always some.
    I’ve honed down my kit to make it easy to transport on a motorcycle, and not leave me wanting.
    Coffee in the morning is always an issue, but it’s always found at some point!! Haha!
    I hope you enjoy this video. I’m open to hear your opinions and recommendations. I’m always learning and I hope this helps someone else.

    The choreograph with your hands when you said ‘in this wide open world” was spot on!

    All good for fair weather camping, but you gotta think in terms of weather so bad it makes you wanna cry. That’s where a good tent comes into play. And I’m not talking about a big ‘Woods’ Prospector Tent. Take a page from the ‘lite gear’ hiker and/or mountaineer. Throw in a foam or inflatable mattress, and a lightweight hiking stove with disposable fuel cartridge, and some basic comfort food, i.e. coffee, ramen noodles (and set of canteens of course)... something to hold you off while the bad weather passes. And I don’t know if you’ve mentioned it, but THE absolute must have : a Headlamp! ...for those times when you’re broken down by the side of the road and need good lighting. And bring a big, fixed blade hunting knife, and learn the fine art of batonning a log to make small firewood. Happy camping! p.s. fishing rod and tackle perhaps?

      p.p.s. Toilet paper! ...unless you’re ready to use tree leaves 🍁 😁

    The cup is a nice touch that too many people overlook. I carry a little mug with a built-in french press and a ziploc full of coffee grounds.

    Throttle cable (just the inner cable, coiled inside your headlight bucket). Great video, makes me want to get out and explore on the bike again. thanks!

      Good call! I had a couple I had gotten from Ruly in Mexico a couple of years ago. Definitely need to grab another and stash it on the bike!
      Thank you for the suggestion!

    Awesome set up! Mines a bit different cause fuel injection but more and more I find I need less and less. Safe Travels!

    Good stuff. A lot of the standards of chopper camping came from the military. Most of the guys who founded the "biker movement" in the 50s 60s & 70s were all soldiers.

    I would love to see more on the knife sheath. I like the placement, and ease of reach

    • @Knivesmadebynick
      @Knivesmadebynick  8 месяцев назад +1

      That knife and sheath are my “Buffalo Skinner” and a horizontal carry sheath.
      I move my belt buckle to the side and put my sheath in the center of my pants.
      It is so comfortable to carry this way I sometimes forget I have my knife on.

    Great info. Not a lot of good videos about this, and folks definitely usually pack way more than is needed, and forget the important stuff.

    This is so cool, I pack pretty much the same stuff but change a few things depending on the weather. I love using just a tarp but mosquitoes and other nasty things (scorpions, snakes, spiders) have been a problem in the past: how do you deal with that? Ride safe man, have fun!

    I don't know what kind of tent stakes you use but I've found that giant nails work great. I've have bent a couple but I've never broken one.

      I use several kinds. I find them at campgrounds all the time and just continually upgrade as I find better ones!!

      The canvas I have was waxed, but also old, so I waxed it again myself before using.

    • @Knivesmadebynick
      @Knivesmadebynick  6 месяцев назад +1

      Yes! My buddy Dave and I have both added fishing gear to our bikes. I put a kit together using all “found” implements. String,weights, hooks, swivels, etc.
      Thanks for the comment Steve!
