  • A quick visual video of the supertarp and paratarp by each other and going over the size differences real quick. I made a mistake talking about the weights for some reason but I fixed it in the video! Back from guiding now and going to get back on posting some videos and photos!

Good timing! Thinking of making a ParaTarp clone but maybe sizing everything up 20% or so as it does seem pretty tight.
Can I ask how tall you are? Or even better, do you know how far apart the poles are on the ParaTarp when it's pitched? Can you get a full-length sleeping pad between the poles?

So I'm 5'7. If I angle the short pole back I can fit between them but I'm touching. I can probably get a legit measurement next time I get them pitched!

@@ampedarcher9426 I'm pretty sure that the length of the Paratarp is dictated by the width of the fabric they are using rather than by the size of an actual human being! A bit more distance between the poles would make it a much more useful shelter.

I mean I understand your meaning but it is a shaped tarp. It is built with tapered edges and lengths and sides. Can you adjust widths and pole lengths to get more head room or more width yes but only to a certain point before you loose the "strength" and taught-Ness needed to handle weather. If it's summer and beautiful then go ahead and tweak but when things get western you will want that tight perfect pitch more than anything

@@ampedarcher9426 I agree that slanting the poles won't work well in hairy weather.
What I was trying to say is that Kifaru should have made the tarp a little longer.
They chose to go with a seam that runs across the tarp rather than the more typical seam that runs the length of the ridgeline.
This design saved them a little in fabric and construction costs, but limited the length to 2x the width of the fabric. That's the only reason I can think of for having the poles so close together.
In the great majority of other trekking pole A-frame shelters, such as the Yama Cirriform, the Trekkertent Stealth and the Tarptent Protrail the poles are far enough apart that most hikers can easily lie between them. These designs all use the ridgeline seam.

@@tullochgorum6323 I see what you were saying now for sure but also you have to consider the sizing. The sheep tarp is an emergency single person type of shelter, Para is single person and some gear and not much more, the super tarp which I use now has plenty of room between the poles and fits me and my gear and weapon and space to do stuff and the mega is even larger. I don't think it was a mistake or attempt to save material. I think they built it to the specifications they were after for the size they intended it for.

Still holding onto it while I debate.... really thinking about keeping it for a back up or summer overnighter scouting.
