- Intro to the original release of Myst, by Cyan, distributed by Broderbund. This is the 8-bit version of myst released in 1993 before the 24-bit masterpiece edition released in 2000.
Little message at the end ;)
#Myst25
25 years of MYSTery and worlds we all want to get lost in.
Thank you Cyan for these fantastic games :)
Still one of the greatest, if not
Ah! that Cyan intro still gives me chills.
I know the actual sound quality is low, but i do prefer this version of the Myst theme. It has subtle differences to the newer version, the most obvious being those first few drum beats. They're far more haunting, and have a flange effect on them which just adds to it.
A great intro. I didn't realize until many years later that there were myst novels, and that this intro was word for word the end of the Book of Atrus, when Atrus escaped Riven, trapping Ghen.
The ending has not yet been written. Love that part!
I’ve listened to the intro many times, and I only just now noticed the teleportation sound when Atrus disappears. So many memories. :)
Myst 93 Intro- watchers know how to live life!

I had no idea what Atrus was saying in the beginning when I was a kid. But the atmosphere the music and art created absolutely gripped me. Never beat this game until I revisited it in my 20s. But dang, I played the heck out of it as a kid.
You did the intro properly! Most cut off before clicking on the book!
The myst intro has creepy and mysterious music
250 cc pure nostalgia straight to the vein
I remember getting this for Christmas back in 1993. Not long after getting our CD-Rom equipped Mac.
I HAVE THIS.
I'm still working on Myst! Not many kids know about it. They should! (I'm a kid and I love it but the Mechanical Age is kind of creepy.)
To think this was done all in Hypercard.
Still a masterpiece!!!!
This game and it's soundtrack defined my childhood. I recently created an alternate music track for the classic Myst 1 intro sequence that features an epic orchestra, feel free to check it out:
No matter how many times they remake it, the Myst flyby never matches the music like the original.
Great!!!
