One of the common misinterpretation of the story of Don quixote is that it is about a man who is unrealistically optimistic and overzealous with their ideals, and needs to be brought down to their senses and realise what they are asking of the world is impossible. The thing is, in this story, in this setting, in this city, it desperately NEEDS people like don. Even if it's impractical, even if it's foolish, or even just an act, that kind of childlike wonder and idealism is sorely missing from the world. The very idea of pure alteuism and heroism has been ground out of every single person in the city, to the point that it's outright alien to most people. Don is someone truly precious, and they will likely play a pivotal role in the grand scheme of making the city a better, kinder place someday.
I mean I'll we all yearn for someone to be a Don Quixote, a fool who will chase the dream we yearn. Kinda like why people love Bob Ross and Mister Rogers, Fools who gave us a dream that is foolishly ideal a loving figure that influence that wants the best of you and your admirance of little mistakes you have.
The original novella completely takes the stance that DQ is a madman who is a threat to himself and others. Most adaptions vastly downplay his insanity and violent tendencies. Limbus Company especially draws more heavily from the musical "The Man from La Mancha" which Cervantes invents the title character to embody idealism against a cruel and uncaring world (It's most famous song is literally "The impossible Dream"). Don't get me wrong. I adore interpretations where DQ gets to be genuinely good, but novella version of him is a public menace.
@@SeekSeekLest Dude assaults innocent people without remorse and calls himself a hero for it. @SeekSeekLest I mean the insanity and violent tendencies you pinted are also encapsulated in lamancha land and the Don Quixote (Sanjo) . so we the best of both versions
@@johnnywakeup5515 my theory is that is because in the time of original DQ it was the expansion of capitalism which reinforces logic and apathy, a focused exercise to profit, so the romantism in DQ mind is insanity. Something I especially like about this Canto is Sancho technically does prove that coexistence with humans is possible, just by all the adventures she has been on with us, not to mention she refers to the sinners as her family of twelve despite them not having a single drop of blood between them, she ignores blood, which is everything to her kind and still manages to continue on. Heck, both Don Quixote and Sancho were able to coexist with Bari. I don’t think Don Quixote’s dream was an impossible one, but maybe the scale was too grand and they tried to take things too fast. Sancho overcame the blood between her and Quixote to win the final clash which was a hopeless one.
That’s the biggest tragedy of the chapter is that Don Quixote was so close to achieving his dream So close if he could only see where Sancho was coming from if he could only have faith in her if only he wasn’t isolated for 200 years of grief seeing the worst of his people If any one of these variables shifted I feel the outcome could have been different And personally it’s what makes the chapter so compelling

However, she gets really bored until a little boy stumbles upon her home, telling her that she might be a creature called "bloodfiend". She's interested to learn more, so she follows the kid. Funny enough, the kid is the son of important folk in the city so the bloodfiend ends up protecting him until he's home. His parents are terrified at first, but she's legit a strong and powerful person (protect the parent too) so they come in agreement. She's getting paid with money AND fresh blood, plus she can always drink blood of any assassin or threat to her master. She ends up liking the new job because she loves human entertainment.
