Low maintenance relationships are just the best for me tho. My closest friends are all like this and once we met up for dinner in like once a year, the bond is still there and we have a lot of things to talk about.
You and your friends meet up only once in a year??
SJ Yeah... We work in different countries around Southeast Asia but we came from the same city which is Borneo. Low maintenance friendships, we don’t have to update on each other’s lives until we decided to come home for either Christmas or Harvest season (midyear festivities)

Just wanna say it is so refreshing to hear Ali say he had a trouble free childhood and can’t relate to molly in terms of her struggles. As someone who had a pretty difficult childhood, i really appreciate it when other people who haven’t had that can just listen and be honest about their own lives without trying to say they know what it would feel like ect ♥️

Molly is so great! I do think lots of the conversations they were having about self-doubt etc really highlight the difference in the way men and women are socialised. Ali never considers that he might be 'less-than', whereas Molly has to continually prove to herself that she's good enough. It's a pattern that I've noticed a lot in my own life/at medical school - interesting to see it presented in such a stark way!
p.s. I loved this video!
A child who was really loved and cared for by subconscious communication of parents/caretakers feels secure in adult life.
Thank you for your candid description of your incredibly challenging childhood, Molly. I don't know why I watched this whole thing... just a Q&A about two people sharing a flat, and really nothing to do with the usual "inspirational" angle of Ali's insanely productive work ethic. Love molly, I’m doing nursing now aiming to get into med afterwards (in Australia we have to do an undergrad first) and also spent loads of time in hospital as a kid. Really inspiring to see she made it! I’m sure it helps to have an understanding of the patient’s experience.
