I came up with a deck with Well Prepared and The Necronomicon to +5. He's the only one who can do it.

Joe can make great use of any version of Extensive Research, and if you have a lot of draw cards then it can be really cheap to play ER, or maybe even free.

I recently finished a PTC run with Mark and Wini and we did well (until the end), so it can be done. Good luck!

TC? You mean TCU? I think getting Higher Education for Joe and including crack the case and a few other resource cards in his deck is the way to go. It isn't even in the taboo list anymore, 3 XP is nothing. As long as you have 5 cards or more in hand (which is not hard unless your basic weakness is Amnesia) you can spend 2 resources to test willpower at 6 whenever it is vital to pass.

Heya! I'm prepping to play a blind run of Path to Carcosa as my first real campaign with a friend (one investigator each). I've only played (and lost at solo) the scenario in the base box.\, and my friend has minimal more experience (never completed a campaign). Could you suggest a couple investigators and/or builds? I was thinking maybe Lily Chen and Carolyn F***ing Fern, or Rex and Mark, but wanted some input to make it fun and give us a chance! I should mention that we have access to everything . . . all the campaigns, the MPC-printed parallel cards, book cards/investigators, return tos, etc.
We will likely go straight into Dark Matter if we survive lol

I know Shortcut is arguably better in the main deck, but as a hunch I've always enjoyed having it- to me it's better to have a hunch deck you can always get use out of, and while Shortcut might be individually better in the main deck it is still one of the best hunches. It is an extra action and almost always usable. I also generally like positioning Joe on a clue at the end of the turn so that most of those hunches activate. Hunches that are fast and flexible take some priority for me because they can always be played. Having fast and flexible hunches means you clear the deck and see more of the best ones.
Hunches I really like that are most flexible:
    Working a Hunch (obviously) (fast)
    Preposterous Sketches
    Burning the Midnight Oil
    Deep Knowledge
    Captivating Discovery
    Shortcut (fast)
    No Stone Unturned
    Delay the Inevitable (fast)
Hunches for clue getting that are less flexible but very powerful
    Scene of the Crime
Extensive Research (only in a big hand build)
Breach the Door (probably for larger groups)
    Seeking Answers
A few I haven't tried that I think would be good:
Truth from Fiction (in a secrets deck)
The Truth Beckons (in the right campaign)
Vantage Point (again, in the right campaign) (fast)
Written in the Stars (for a skill Joe) (fast)
    Upgrades:
    Cryptic Research (fast)
    Glimpse the Unthinkable 1
    Stirring Up Trouble
    Seeking Answers 2
    Shortcut 1 (fast)
    No Stone Unturned 5

In the costs section about triggered a outities it says:
"An ability cannot initiate - and therefore its costs cannot be paid - if the resolution of its effect will not change the game state."
I've always assumed the same would apply for events, even if I could find anything about those.
But I guess it would work and removing the weakness from the game would probably count as a chance in gamestate anyways.

Joe Diamond can do so many things. This is a good overview for beginners (obviously) but man does he have a lot of depth and interesting builds.

Also: Joe loves tools, as he can hold them next to his 1911's. So he synergizes well with tool belt, you can rotate dissection kit, magifying glass and hawk-eye folding camera to suit the stats you need right now. And with the card from hemlock vale that lowers the required hand slots by one, you can add sledgehammer to that mix, giving Joe a means to do dmg without spending ammo.

You could, I've done it to great effect. It's a matter of preference, but if you're worried about horror, I'd rather have a 1/11 chance of seeing my horror healing as opposed to 1/15.
