I find horror themes that deal with mind altering hallucinagens far scarier than another common jumpscare monster. It's scarier for me because it can happen in the real world. But that's just me.

I just liked man of Medan it's crazy and funny how may endings and how people react to it I haven't watched one until dawn gameplay its like 5-10+ hours long and i dont have time
Little hope was good and it’s an excellent gameplay experience, just had a disappointing ending that was similar to man of Medan, but no characters are real only bus driver. I would of rather if they had all died on the bus and were stuck in a loop seeing their past lives. Hopefully the next one will be real. Would enjoy a good scary slasher story kinda like the movie Your Next style
@@duchessravenwaves2834 I honestly thought Little Hope was miles ahead of Man of Medan. More pleasant characters that had better chemistry, and a WAY more intriguing story, that made you care for the characters. I liked how it was about facing one's demons. Not quite as good as Until Dawn tho. Of course this is all my opinion.
I kind of wish it was a "both" scenario where the gas is culprit, BUT, there is legitimate haunting too. There could have been clever parts where things could not be hand-waved due to hallucinogenic gas, whether it be objects that truly moved or actual spectral entities. Maybe even helpful ghosts with very, very limited capacity to guide the criminals away from the innocent adults? Or attempting to help innocent people but could be 50/50 helpful/hurtful depending on characters' choices to weird movement, sounds, etc?
Emily his explanation is wrong, there is a supernatural part of the story, it was foreshadowed in the opening minutes of the game, reinforced by 2 military containment endings, the ending with that French guy approaching the pirate captains body and getting choked by the corpse, it was made clear that you can’t get harmed by the hallucinations, just driven to madness, suicide, or death by terror; he died from something outside those boundaries.
Emily I haven’t played myself so I’m still finding new stuff on RUclips, there is also a small section that takes place on the Medan mid story in which the setting is some fancy restaurant that should not be on a military freighter, what’s even more interesting is that the room contained demonic rituals on the floor and even a book describing a ritual.
The 'fancy ballroom' is Fliss' hallucination - she imagines a satanic ritual because she was already superstitious. As for the 'supernatural' endings, it's implied that the army kills them to keep the secret of the bioweapon, not because of anything supernatural (although that is admittedly silly) - as for the Danny/Demonic Olson ending, it's entirely possible that it's occurring entirely in Danny's head - whether he's imagining the strangling or Olson is actually choking him.
The Hidden Object Guru you’re talking out your ass lol, you’re completely ignoring that there can only be 3 causes of death from the gas and there’s loads of evidence for something other than the gas trying to kill them, there’s no way that he was able to get physically strangled or feel physically strangled, also there’s the fact that in the prologue you find like 5 soldiers that ALL died from terror, that is like a 1 in 30 chance that ALL of them would die from terror and not from suicide or getting murdered by someone who went mad.
Also, if Fliss isn't compliant when Olson demands she get a weather update from the cost guard, and she says SOS, why was there no response? Another point, why are there rats? I know that rats were probably on the ship when it left port, but are the rats just immune to the gas? Even if they are, what have they been eating for 70 years? None of the bodies we find on the ship show any evidence of being disturbed by rats, but we see later that when Olson dies, they're on him in minutes. Another point: the paper found on the ship (ESPECIALLY in the air plane) would have either disintegrated/ broken down, or chewed up by rats. It's a moist environment, and it's been 70 years.
You're right that the ship shouldn't even be there any more - you have to completely repaint ships every few years if you want to keep salt water from destroying metal hulls, so it's preposterous that it would still be around - one of the things that would make more sense if it was supernatural.
A little hope is about witches/ the Salem witch trials. Conrad’s shirt, the book Alex brings with him, the stick doll, hanging, etc. , I think, seems like it.
Between those clues and the painting, a supernatural theme seems guaranteed. Are we also going to get a game about some kind of ancient evil or mummy in Iraq? And what's going on with those murders back in America?
@@HOGuru The poster below me says that Until Dawn went from natural/slasher elevating unto the reveal of supernatural wendigos. Then Man of Medan went the other direction from supernatural premise to chem weapon hallucinogens. Will Little Hope be the middle path? Some of each/both?
i love how they added that the ship was the ourang medan, which was an actual ship where the crew were found dead. Each one of them were in some sort of horrified or shocked state when they died, but displayed no injuries to there bodies. Their bodies also decomposed much more quickly than normal, but before a team could properly analyse the bodies the ship had exploded and sunk when the recovery crew returned to their ship to tow it.
I think what goes most unaccounted for is the Multiplayer version. It gives you a lot more insight because of more dialogues, and different options to explore. And killing your fellows, who are controlled by another person, has a much more confusing momentum I believe. But I agree that the story is quickly revealed, with or without the notes and secrets. It lacked complexity which makes the later confrontations easy to dismiss and not kill your fellows.
Here’s my thing: at a few points in the game things physically move on their own (a door slams behind Fliss and the whiskey bottle/candle fly off the table when Conrad sets them down). I mean, they can’t just be seeing that, which leads me to believe there is an actual supernatural force on the ship. I was thinking it could be Patterson’s ghost following them around given his role in the comic, but it just wouldn’t make sense as another gas thing.
Actually it depends on the choices you made. I would’ve figured it out but the choices I made made it almost impossible to tell. For example found the gas mask so no one would hallucinate. 2nd I died on the heartbeat meter with Conrad before I could confront the monster. Choices like these made it tough for me to pick up on it. That’s why I’m glad I got this story. I would’ve figured it out and it would’ve been too easy.
Ive seen so many people not notice the green/yellow mist. A couple immediately catch on, but a few (Markiplier, RadBrad) took a lot longer to catch on.
@@davidwilson6577 why were they carrying it? was it supposed to be a chemical weapon for war? (i'm assuming bc when the game start there was a navy/army)
@@titiayuhirawati1738 It seems like that's what the writers want you to think, but I'm not sure how much thought they really put into it. A lot of the things in this game that are just there to be spooky and not to be thought about too deeply. Like the two headed body.
Brad's father or grandfather ( don't remember precise dialogue) was in the military and fought on war. That's how he got in to the wrecks and stuff. Maybe a relative was on ship or plane?
This game was so straight forward... at the end, i was like "that's it!?"..... it has huge potential, but It didnt reach the point. Overall a good game, but not worth like 30$... 20 is a max...... or 15..... I loved the opening and all, till they're like hostage and all...
I was really hoping to see the multi-armed creature and the other interesting spookies from the prologue, but too bad they went the hallucination route
The guy on the radio in the beginning also sees the two-headed monster. It also seems like it’s really the Captain (Captain is seen banging on a door, then the monster opens the door to the radio room, then the Captain is seen falling from the ship).
I saw that as a possibility based on some of the files, but that's an even dumber plan - exposing people to a murder/suicide drug in an uncontrolled environment, with no idea when the exposure would start, and no way to monitor what happened when it did? So I had to dismiss that idea.
@@HOGuru In the beginning, the soldier that was sent to the sick ward wakes up but gets sedated again. Plus, the other one gets sentenced to TEN DAYS - which is mentioned to be suspiciously long
@@corelei The weird part is that when he wakes up, he's surprised to find out that he's been sentenced to 10 days - which he wouldn't be, if he'd been in the brig for ten days.

I watched a streamer play this game and I was left clueless as to what was going on, which made any choices they made very unclear to me and made me unaware of what the correct choices were. This video helped clear things up for me though. So thanks for making the video!
the massacre didnt happen that night. they were sedated and sent to the brig for a while. or at least thats what i got from it. especially because the guy even asked about his time in isolation when freeing him on the ship.
It's strange, because there's no reason for Joe to be unconscious for more than a week, and when Charlie gets a look at the papers he's surprised to find that he's been sentenced to 10 Days in the brig. Which is a weird reaction if you've just spent ten days in the brig. It's not a huge mistake, but it's there.
Given that the goal of the series is to cover all the tropes of movie horror they had to make one where "it was all in your head". I don't like this trope too but I think that they had to include it.
I agree the it was all a dream or it was a hallucination is just lazy writing the game looks beautiful and i understand its using cliches to tell its story but thats no excuse for lazy writing
One game component they could've implemented a lot better was the relationship stats. It didn't matter if they were all on good terms or not, because none of your repercussions had to do with it. In Until Dawn, certain decisions or betrayals of other characters meant they left you out to dry. That couldve really helped the depth the characters and the decisions.
Reasons to prefer Until Dawn: -They spent ages making the animation look consistently good. -You get enough time to have a grasp of the characters, and then watch them develop. All of them. -If you collect enough clues in the right places and start putting 2 and 2 together, you can get off the plot rug before it's pulled out from under you at the halfway point. -Self reflection tea-breaks with the Analyst. Even better when watching your favorite RUclipsrs get honest on screen! -Longer story. Reasons to prefer Man Of Medan: -While Until Dawn was practically a straight-line story where characters can drop out freely after they're saved once (and subsequently become useless to the story as the other immune characters keep going), Man Of Medan tries to let their once-saved characters still be useful in decision-making and helping the others. -The Butterfly Effect can take different characters to different places, giving out a bunch of different scenarios. Multiple endings with different outcomes, too. -The two points above, simply put, give Man Of Medan more *flexibility* in the story as a trade-off for being shorter than Until Dawn. Considering the premise of "choose your own story", this is a trump card. -Two threats, and while neither of them are the supernatural sadists that everybody else seems to be wanting, they still are sensible yet lethal. -If you're paying attention in the beginning, you can figure out enough for yourself. But that might be a bad thing. -The ability to kill a character extremely early is coupled with the ability to save a character extremely early with a cut-and-run. Reasons to like them both: -Deaths are taken as far as logically possible, and nothing more. -Cleverness risks ruining the story for yourself, but you have a better idea of how to survive. -Supermassive Games have done what they can to make sure the plot makes sense.
Thanks for this video, and keep it up! Great analysis into the game's story and characters. I think you should make more content like these when you have the time.
OK. But can we talk about Fliss' fake license? Or the fact that half of the words on her boat license are spelt incorrectly? Or the fact that Alex sees the two headed creature and so does the radio guy but how can they hallucinate the same thing when the radio guy has never seen (I'm assuming) what's in those crates?
It's fake? I thought it was real just that Fliss is a nickname. I was also kind of bummed how they mentioned she was going to lose her ship because of money problems and that just ended up completely ignored.
I'm just confused about the coffins though, I know the smaller one was for a guy that had very little left to bring back, and I think the double head one was referenced in something about not having enough coffins, but what about the chained up one??
the sailors were getting paranoid they could have done it and it could be that on the night of the lighting strike they either trued to chain them up and died before they could do all 4 or they tried to remove the chains in there madness to perhaps stop the monsters in some way .
You forgot to mention (its driving me up the wall no one noticed) but the guy in the radio room attacked by the spider person (I'm gonna assume he was scared of spiders) actually got a response on the radio asking him for his location but he never responds.
The "spider-person" that he saw is that two-headed, three-armed creature that Alex sees in the coffin and later (maybe) hallucinates after the rat scene
Also, him hallucinnating the two-headed guy might be a way to throw us off from the beginning, or maybe it was just put there in order to not have to make a new model. This game seems a little rushed, don't you think?

Just came back, I was watching another streamer finish the game and there was a trailer for their next game in 2020 called "Little Hope" and the trailer was really cool. Showed a sign mid-trailer that said "Welcome to Little Hope" too
The preview of THE DARK PICTURES ANTHOLOGY: LITTLE HOPE that appears at the end of the game indicates a Salem Witch Trials setting. Game will be released in 2020.
I think Charlie is haunted by the Fortune teller and not the Martial Arts Dummy, because we never actually get to see the fortune tellers face and the fortune teller and sees bad fortune. So in a way Charlie thinks only bad omens are from evil beings i.e the fortune teller.
6:22 when you get up top in the navigation room, before the radio, there is a wall map full of pins showing that a storm blew the freighter off its projected course.
I think you forgot these... Danny living, wether drowned or stabbed, makes no sense. Connie going back on the ship without the coast guard is just straight up dumb. Saving Junior is barely coded into the game. Other than that, good vid! Subbed!
9:13 There is a simple explanation, Declassification. Take a look at the time line, 1947-2019 is 72 years. Within the US, unless it is specially classified, the information was likely declassified automatically in the late 90's (1997 was 50 years). The records about the plane being sent out would have been declassified by that time automatically. The information about the ship itself may have still been specially classified, but not the rescue plane. This would explain how he found it, why it was not found already, and why they did not know about the ship until finding the plane. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Declassification
That does make sense, except for one minor point - the plane was sent out on a search-and-rescue mission to an area of ocean, and was then never seen or heard from again - so it's not like you could just search the intended route and look for places it might have ditched. Because they didn't know exactly where the boat was when they left, and its location wasn't reported, so even if they headed straight back to base, you wouldn't know what heading they were coming from, which makes their path incredibly difficult to predict.
@@HOGuru you are right that they would still have little to no idea where the plane was. However this I could hand wave as luck. Records from the air control tower would have the direction the left and last known radar contact. With the plane records declassified in 97 you could easily assume others have also tried to find this wreck from previously classified records. That would help narrow the search area by process of elimination. Online forums would exist from previous drivers detailing their journeys. In the end they just got lucky or unlucky that they were the ones who finally found the needle in the haystack.

Prediction for Little Hope (which is a town name btw, forget what state it’s in) is that it’s in a catholic school. The guy yelling looks like he’s wearing a school uniform.
It has been confirmed that when they get jailed. Its not to keep it secret its to make them undrug (if thats the right word) because you can also hear Julia being affected by it and screaming. It takes a couple years to fully get rid of it.
Ha, I knew it was chemical hallucination! Thank you for this video. I honestly couldn't be bothered watching 4 hours of gameplay to find out if I was right... the game is beautifully made and I loved Until Dawn but Man of Medan is to be honest quite boring to watch someone else play. Unless you like watching characters pace around looking at paintings in a setting so dark you can barely make out if they're in the same room as an hour ago.
Watched a full let’s play, then watched all of the endings, and I’m currently following two let’s players go through the game. To me the best part is seeing how different each one can be. The one I watched all the way through, everybody lived. One of the two I’m following already lost Conrad, and the other hasn’t lost anybody but took Brad along on the kidnapping. I did have to go to this video to fully understand it, but I’m enjoying watching people. The first guy I watched didn’t even accept the proposal.
Kit Kat addict bro pewd is the most decent utuber on the planet, u can see how he revived the “considered Dead” Community of Minecraft =)) all in all whatever game he plays many will watch him with great joy
The next dark pictures game WILL be little hope because in the end the curator says this "until we meet again maybe in little hope" and he also said "it's inevitable", sprread the news.
I’m almost 100% sure it’s called Little Hope because the narrator says at the end of the game “we’ll see each other again maybe in Little Hope maybe somewhere else. But we will meet again. It’s inevitable” or something along those lines
I have a theory. Maybe the next game will focus on a religious cult. The 'little hope' could be the main protagonist of the game with the plot revolving around them trying to save their friends from the murderous group. Just a theory since painting is Religious themed and a suicide death seems too obvious.
before watching this video: this game is about ghost resurrected by lightning strike therefore that ship is haunted after i watch this video: unknown deadly chemical or "Manchurian gold" is the one causing this to happen
2:45 I actually think that the fishermen was just minding their own business when their boat accidentally got tangled in the wire thing. And after seeing the damage, they demanded money. Seeing how Conrad was just throwing money into the ocean, They came to the conclusion that Conrad's family is rich and they decided to kidnap him and Julia. This theory further gets more probable when they interrogate Julia and ask her questions related to her familys' wealth.
I think they were always planning to demand money - on the open ocean there's no reason to ever drive that close to another boat, especially at that speed!
I find it hard to believe that the gas wouldn't have completely dissipated by the time the group reaches the ship. If the crystals continued to let off gas for that whole time, it should have ran out long ago. Also that the military would have given up on looking for a high priority asset (chemical weapon) after one rescue attempt.
In 8:33 , you say they didn't have a good idea where SS Ourang Medan was, but I clearly remember seeing the co-ordinates of the ship that was found on the plane wreck. It was later used to reach the ship by the 5 friends. It was found during Julia's and Alex's dive. Can anyone explain how that's possible?
Simple - the co-ordinates on the ship were written by the ship's navigator in greasepaint pencil after they found the ship. The orders were under a plastic cover, and the co-ordinates were written on the plastic while in flight.
That is certainly possible! Then again, we never see the creature that's shadowed, so we can't say that it's really meant to be the same creature, or just the developers reusing a model.
You forgot the opening song, "A Conversation With Death", as a reference to Until Dawn. Albeit performed by a different artist in each game, this same song, accompanied by a montage of 'upcoming spooky images' that will appear in game, is utilized after the prologue chapter (and character deaths) in each game.
I considered listing the song in my 'Until Dawn' references section, but since it seems like that's going to be the theme song for the whole series, I decided it wasn't obscure enough to merit a mention there.
Thats cool you picked up the Little Hope vision and their new game is little hope. I saw Jevs playthrough where it was this white girl fall off a cliff when he had equipment to go down. Maybe thats the new one too because she's not a character in Little Hope. Big props!
I agree about this whole ship's electronic system. Including still somehow working generator and radio tower ( during not some 5-7 years, but 70!!! ). Devs made a mistake there. But it's ok, game still looks good and I really enjoyed playing it. Can't wait for the next "LITTLE HOPE" part ;]
You'd think she'd have their frequency memorized! An easy fix would be for the dial to be broken, and have it be stuck on the military frequency that the ship was last talking to!
What I find confusing is the dialogue seems unfinished. I haven’t been able to find a single example of alternative dialogue if the kids get away in the end. It’s all the same jargon about not understanding what they just saw and went through, even if you find enough secrets and they have the conversation where they figure it out together. Shouldn’t they have at least one set of alternative dialogue reflecting on the experience of the player unlocks enough of the right secrets to trigger that conversation?
I absolutely love this game but I wish there were some alternate events that happened Like one where Conrad doesn’t piss off the pirates & they all board it alone, but boarding alone means that there is a monster or some actual horror real aspect to it. I kinda wish Joe was a modern new character I liked how, I like a game with more characters and I liked Joe. In the curators cut I wish maybe we could of played as the pirate or in an entirely different mode maybe? Last thing I would of absolutely loved a mode which is not the story at all, it’s a mode where you can explore the whole ship in first person, it would be exactly like how the Krypt is in Mortal Kombat X, first person and a flashlight obviously this would be so cool since the ship is so massive and we obviously didn’t explore all of it, it would of also been cool to explore it back in 1947 as well as the modern rotted version But I still absolutely love this game to pieces and this is a great video
Doesn't something weird happen when someone says "Ourang Medan?" For example when they're trying to describe their location to the coast guard amd the engine suddenly shuts down. Sadly I can't remember the other scene. That kept me hyped for something supernatural
The ghost story has another reference. If Brad changes the murder weapon due to Alex saying axes are so cliche he states the man was hung from the rafters with a meat hook throat his throat. It might be referencing of Matt's possible deaths from Until Dawn.
7:30 I mean if you take into consideration how things were done around that time in the lack of knowledge of things yeah I can totally believe that the army would do that especially back in world war II times
tbh I thought when the fog came into the room with the cabins, the dead people in there would be alive again or etc. but finding out its was only hallucinations... made me sad idk. 😅
How has the ship remained floating for all this time? Ships don't float like that unless something keeps it so. I think a future game should have a supernatural reason for it.
I might just sound like an idiot, but who actually is the man you see everytime someone is hallucinating, the guy is in the background every scene someone is hallucinating
To me the biggest plot hole is that the Medan, a ship of several hundred feet was just floating 4 hours off shore for 70 years and no one came across it until now.
Well, the ocean's a pretty big place - I'm more curious about how it's still floating. You've got to repaint a boat like that every little while if you want to stop it from crumbling into a pile of rust.
I still feel like there's more to it... Why were the caskets so important?? How did the solder in the radio room see the exact same hallucination as Alex did?? There's something we're still not seeing
The two men were put in the brig for 10 days according to some reports in the medical room, so the storm happening the night they get out of the brig makes sense with the timeline.
The problem is created by the line reading that they give the guy in the cell - when he reads the report, he's surprised and annoyed to find out that he's been given 10 days in the brig. Which would be a weird way for a person who's just spent 10 days in the brig to react.
Its a simple copy of that movie where people went to search for gold and some how stumbled uppon a ghost ship ahhh what is called ohhh yeah GHOST SHIP 2002 exept from the some how logical explanation behind all the crazy shit and there is also the same caracters like the curator look it up maybe its inspired from there but still a fun game to play 6/10 for me
Gotta disagree with your explanation of Alex's fears.... He lifts the lid of a cooking pot containing stew, and finds human entrails. He lifts the lid of a coffin which we know contained the remains of a soldier, but sees the remains of a 2-headed monster, which he later can also possibly hallucinate. He sees some other body horror gore as well...because Alex's internal conflict is about his dilemma regarding whether or not to finish medical school. He's haunted by images of human gore and strange medical mutations as a result of being unsure if he's got what it takes to become a doctor.
Im still concerned about the coffins, one is chained up as if it was holding something from coming out, one is smaller than the others, and one contains a 2-headed skeleton
I feel like I should do a whole video explaining the coffins - the idea of the small coffin is that it's just a couple of body parts, the chains are because soldiers had been tampering with the coffins and trying to peek inside, and the two-headed body was the result of a bizarre surgical experiment - which is why one of the heads was stretched and broken as well.
@@deedarsarwar7283 Then I'll put together that video next week! Any idea what I should call it to make sure it's clear? Something like 'Man of Medan - The Four Coffins Explained?'

Its only gas. there is nothing scary about evrything. What is real and what isnt. In the teaser trailer for Little Hope after you complete Man of Medan it shows a monster claw. So people who love Until Dawn would love that one.
John Cena Agreed. Man of Medan did great using its horror elements, and it’s really up to you to figure out the mystery(whether you wanna believe it’s real or fake). I just liked man of Medan it's crazy and funny how may endings and how people react to it I haven't watched one until dawn gameplay its like 5-10+ hours long and i dont have time
Update little hope was shite
Little hope was good and it’s an excellent gameplay experience, just had a disappointing ending that was similar to man of Medan, but no characters are real only bus driver. I would of rather if they had all died on the bus and were stuck in a loop seeing their past lives. Hopefully the next one will be real. Would enjoy a good scary slasher story kinda like the movie Your Next style
@@duchessravenwaves2834 none of the games will be real in this series, they are all based on true stories

@@jerricklittle3306 Ooh I didn't know about either of those. That is fascinating! That leaves certain jump scares open to question, then!
@@HOGuru Right??? There was even flooding in one part, and its revealed that the ship was fragile in the first place. It should have sunk long ago.
I wonder if the scary story that brad tells about the light house could be something lol
Now this game seems, good to study some Past story or History
They mention Salem in the game too somewhere I forget where.
i love how they added that the ship was the ourang medan, which was an actual ship where the crew were found dead.
No, the developers just aren't consistent and care more about atmosphere than narrative.
why couldnt they just see that happen? are you familiar with what a halucination is?

Actually it depends on the choices you made. I would’ve figured it out but the choices I made made it almost impossible to tell. For example found the gas mask so no one would hallucinate. 2nd I died on the heartbeat meter with Conrad before I could confront the monster. Choices like these made it tough for me to pick up on it. That’s why I’m glad I got this story. I would’ve figured it out and it would’ve been too easy.

Just adding a bit more depths to the ending would have made it a lot better imo.
You know , I wished it was all real. That is was actually a GHOST SHIP, we had movies about that and this would be befitting story to tell
One ending in the game implies it was real but in a certain ending
Marvel: Spider-Man i prefer that it wasnt real cuz if it was it wouldve essentially a knock off of the 2000s movie ghost ship
I was really hoping to see the multi-armed creature and the other interesting spookies from the prologue, but too bad they went the hallucination route
Kaiden Carlson The story is real, but the ship itself is not. There is no evidence the ship exists. A classic Ghost Ship story as it is.
@@frost9041 The government doesn't want you to think it exists.
The guy on the radio in the beginning also sees the two-headed monster. It also seems like it’s really the Captain (Captain is seen banging on a door, then the monster opens the door to the radio room, then the Captain is seen falling from the ship).
Fliss said the radio itself got smashed up during the storm, not just the antena, so it wouldn't be usable.
The military didn't want to transport it and go through a long trip, they wanted to test it on their own soldiers before controling it for warfare.
I saw that as a possibility based on some of the files, but that's an even dumber plan - exposing people to a murder/suicide drug in an uncontrolled environment, with no idea when the exposure would start, and no way to monitor what happened when it did? So I had to dismiss that idea.

The only question I have is why the coffins had disfigured body’s in them.
Those were the bodies of sergeant Jones and his men who were experimented on at the water purification plant. They were brought back as a secondary objective when the troops stormed the plant.

Nice video this helped explain clear alot of things for me
the massacre didnt happen that night. they were sedated and sent to the brig for a while. or at least thats what i got from it. especially because the guy even asked about his time in isolation when freeing him on the ship.
What were they doing with the soldier from the prologue? He wakes up strapped to a table n then passes out again

I hate games with endings like this 😒
"It was all a gas" "it was a dream" "it was all in their head" WACK
Given that the goal of the series is to cover all the tropes of movie horror they had to make one where "it was all in your head". I don't like this trope too but I think that they had to include it.
Mermaid Pisces should’ve paid attention

If you ask me, this game was probably rushed.
@@Cyphyxia one ending makes it out to be all real imo
One game component they could've implemented a lot better was the relationship stats. It didn't matter if they were all on good terms or not, because none of your repercussions had to do with it. In Until Dawn, certain decisions or betrayals of other characters meant they left you out to dry. That couldve really helped the depth the characters and the decisions.
Reasons to prefer Until Dawn:
-They spent ages making the animation look consistently good.
Reasons to prefer Man Of Medan:
-While Until Dawn was practically a straight-line story where characters can drop out freely after they're saved once (and subsequently become useless to the story as the other immune characters keep going), Man Of Medan tries to let their once-saved characters still be useful in decision-making and helping the others.
Reasons to like them both:
-Deaths are taken as far as logically possible, and nothing more.
-Cleverness risks ruining the story for yourself, but you have a better idea of how to survive.
-Supermassive Games have done what they can to make sure the plot makes sense.
Andrew Reid thank you. This is by far the most balanced review I’ve seen.
I really like them both
Thanks for this video, and keep it up! Great analysis into the game's story and characters. I think you should make more content like these when you have the time.
That's the plan - just have to find games that warrant this kind of careful look!
OK. But can we talk about Fliss' fake license? Or the fact that half of the words on her boat license are spelt incorrectly?
Or the fact that Alex sees the two headed creature and so does the radio guy but how can they hallucinate the same thing when the radio guy has never seen (I'm assuming) what's in those crates?
my best guess is that he heard someone on the mission who saw the body being put in the coffin talking about it and it stuck with him.
@@Oceanman90 I mean I guess that could work. I dunno I have so many theories and there seems to be so few answers.
A lot of the crew had seen the two headed body, they kept sneaking in to look
His hallucinations must've tuned out the radio operator's awnser.
Also, him hallucinnating the two-headed guy might be a way to throw us off from the beginning, or maybe it was just put there in order to not have to make a new model.
This game seems a little rushed, don't you think?

It can be seen as a mixture of both, absolutely.
6:22 when you get up top in the navigation room, before the radio, there is a wall map full of pins showing that a storm blew the freighter off its projected course.
Good point!
I think you forgot these...
Danny living, wether drowned or stabbed, makes no sense.
Connie going back on the ship without the coast guard is just straight up dumb.
Saving Junior is barely coded into the game.
Other than that, good vid! Subbed!
Also the US military that come despite the ship being a few hours from French polynesia
Loved this exceptionally detailed and thorough breakdown - bravo!

Its based on the Witch Trials of Salem

I’m almost 100% sure it’s called Little Hope because the narrator says at the end of the game “we’ll see each other again maybe in Little Hope maybe somewhere else. But we will meet again. It’s inevitable” or something along those lines
Your read on what little hope is about is crazy SIR!
I hope you liked it!
I have a theory. Maybe the next game will focus on a religious cult. The 'little hope' could be the main protagonist of the game with the plot revolving around them trying to save their friends from the murderous group. Just a theory since painting is Religious themed and a suicide death seems too obvious.
Youre correct on it being religious except everything was all a freaking hallucination by the main character
before watching this video: this game is about ghost resurrected by lightning strike therefore that ship is haunted
after i watch this video: unknown deadly chemical or "Manchurian gold" is the one causing this to happen
Lolleepop yeah it’s weird how they hide certain things. You can find the chemical bags of “Manchurian Gold” as Fliss but it’s in an area with a timer.
The fact that he so accurately predicted Little Hope based off that one clip is amazing!!
Well, the painting helped!
@@HOGuru Fair enough lol
Holy shit your Little Hope speculation was spot on
Well, close enough anyway.
The two headed beast is the same creature that you see the silhouette of at 0:27, just saying...was it really all just a hallucination
That is certainly possible! Then again, we never see the creature that's shadowed, so we can't say that it's really meant to be the same creature, or just the developers reusing a model.
@@HOGuru What about the Meta-Horror? WHO IS the keeper of The Dark Stories Repository?
He's a personification of the concept of 'Death', which is implied throughout, and confirmed by his last line at the end of the game.

14:57 btw the Curator said at the end we might see him in a little hope, or not. But we will see him again.
Big props!
I'm making a video about that trailer right now!
That’s an interesting one with the Medan’s radio, why didn’t Fliss just call the Coast Guard if there only about 4 hours away?
You're right - if they found enough secret, there should really be something referencing that in the final dialogue.
Wait so why was there a second skull in the coffin, I know they had to use a smaller coffin for one guy but is the skull from him then?

Like one where Conrad doesn’t piss off the pirates & they all board it alone, but boarding alone means that there is a monster or some actual horror real aspect to it.
I kinda wish Joe was a modern new character I liked how, I like a game with more characters and I liked Joe.
In the curators cut I wish maybe we could of played as the pirate or in an entirely different mode maybe?
Last thing I would of absolutely loved a mode which is not the story at all, it’s a mode where you can explore the whole ship in first person, it would be exactly like how the Krypt is in Mortal Kombat X, first person and a flashlight obviously this would be so cool since the ship is so massive and we obviously didn’t explore all of it, it would of also been cool to explore it back in 1947 as well as the modern rotted version
But I still absolutely love this game to pieces and this is a great video
Them just exploring without the pirates would have been quite an alternate pathway!
Doesn't something weird happen when someone says "Ourang Medan?" For example when they're trying to describe their location to the coast guard amd the engine suddenly shuts down. Sadly I can't remember the other scene.
That kept me hyped for something supernatural
Wow, great breakdown.
The ghost story has another reference. If Brad changes the murder weapon due to Alex saying axes are so cliche he states the man was hung from the rafters with a meat hook throat his throat. It might be referencing of Matt's possible deaths from Until Dawn.
It would be wonderful if, when you see the hanging corpse in the store room, it had a meathook through the neck if you'd changed the story that way.
@@HOGuru Yeah
7:30 I mean if you take into consideration how things were done around that time in the lack of knowledge of things yeah I can totally believe that the army would do that especially back in world war II times
tbh I thought when the fog came into the room with the cabins, the dead people in there would be alive again or etc. but finding out its was only hallucinations... made me sad idk. 😅
needed this vid big time
Dam Tahiti nothing ever goes right when your talking about Tahiti
So does anyone know why Alex saw the two headed skeleton in the casket? Was it a hallucination too?
No, a file reveals that the skeleton was experimental surgery done by the Japanese.
How has the ship remained floating for all this time? Ships don't float like that unless something keeps it so. I think a future game should have a supernatural reason for it.
I might just sound like an idiot, but who actually is the man you see everytime someone is hallucinating, the guy is in the background every scene someone is hallucinating
ruclips.net/video/7Y_mrV1TX4I/видео.html&lc=Ugy_jAP9Z-0tIECQPl94AaABAg
To me the biggest plot hole is that the Medan, a ship of several hundred feet was just floating 4 hours off shore for 70 years and no one came across it until now.
Well, the ocean's a pretty big place - I'm more curious about how it's still floating. You've got to repaint a boat like that every little while if you want to stop it from crumbling into a pile of rust.
awesome explanation and timing
this game had so so SO much potential if they just revealed that the supernatural aspect was just hallucination from the start.
I'm still not sure how that boat could still be floating without supernatural intervention.
"they may be too stupid to live"
i damn near choked on a doughnut laughing at that
Thanks!
Your prediction for little hope is on point!
Well, there was no apocalypse, but it was religion-themed horror, so I was half-right!
@@HOGuru you don't think witch burnings are religious?
Can you explain the part where fliss can die because of a illusion
Where is that?
@@HOGuru when the hands come out of the floor and you miss the qte. You can find it on youtube
@@cezarysobczak3979 You can't get killed in that scene - she gets overwhelmed and collapses, then stumbles into the ballroom.
@@HOGuru sorry then. I found that clip in a 'all deaths video' so I got confused
Gotcha - it's an easy mistake to make, and because she collapses at the end, it can look like one of the heart attack deaths.
I am from the future and yes the game is called little hope and it tackles ptsd and sorta supernatural
Nice!
I think Charlie's fear was that creepy fortune teller
It's a combination of the Fortuneteller and the doll!
Its a simple copy of that movie where people went to search for gold and some how stumbled uppon a ghost ship ahhh what is called ohhh yeah GHOST SHIP 2002 exept from the some how logical explanation behind all the crazy shit and there is also the same caracters like the curator look it up maybe its inspired from there but still a fun game to play 6/10 for me
There was a curator in ghost ship?Huh it's been ages, have to watch it again...I was hoping this game would be like The Haunting (1999)
7:59 these are the same people who, when told the nuclear bomb could blow up the world, wanted to test it out anyway.
True enough!
There is a trailer for "little hope" right at the end of the credits of man of medan.
Makes sense! Also the rat skull, for the rat hallucination.
Damm this Channel is super underrated
Thanks for saying!
@@HOGuru a video on that would be great lots of people including myself are concerned
@@deedarsarwar7283 Then I'll put together that video next week! Any idea what I should call it to make sure it's clear? Something like 'Man of Medan - The Four Coffins Explained?'
@@HOGuru thats the best title right there, thanks man keep up the good work!
What was the two headed thing in the coffin then? They never explained that.
sergeant Jones, you can find an official document about the raid on the water purification plant that lists the secondary objective as rescuing private Jones and his men saying that they were most likely horribly disfigured and needed a closed casket funeral.
It was two bodies stuffed in one casket. The mini casket was because they ran out of regular sized caskets.
Thank you for explaining exactly what causes the monsters and what not to appear I was always very confused and I hope that you explained their new game little hope that looks a thousand times more terrifying
I'm super-psyched for the sequel as well!
People got spoiled by Until Dawn which in my opnion was not a really cool game. Monsters that kill people yhea we get it. But for me this is great. Its only gas. there is nothing scary about evrything. What is real and what isnt. In the teaser trailer for Little Hope after you complete Man of Medan it shows a monster claw. So people who love Until Dawn would love that one.
I agree. They complain too much.
John Cena Agreed. Man of Medan did great using its horror elements, and it’s really up to you to figure out the mystery(whether you wanna believe it’s real or fake).
Do you think it’s really a cursed ghost ship that makes people go crazy, or have you figured out the truth about the chemical weapon, the Manchurian Gold
@@croissant1949 You lose any tension when you realise that its gas. A lot of people seemed to realise that pretty early. Once you realise what's going on, there's no more tension. And its not that hard to figure it out.
Agreed. Until Dawn is one of my all time favorite games (if not my very favorite) but I still really enjoyed this game. I also didn't go in with too high of expectations since budget was smaller and game play was shorter. 🤷🏼♀️
Yeah. I honestly a bit getting tired with supernatural horror. And this game did something that never done before.
