      For sure! There is sadly so much misinformation spread due to peoples own opinions vs correct data. It’s so important to be able to make informed decisions when it comes to business!

    Loved this video, Kate! Personally, I don’t mind those who are sold on these myths as it just means less competition for me 🙃 the “it’s a marathon not a race” mentality has helped me to keep going and build momentum. Hoping I can attend one of your masterclass offerings! Thanks for the wonderfully helpful content as always!

      Yes, definitely a healthier perspective for long-term to look at it as a marathon. Burn out helps no one 😆 So happy to hear you’ve been able to build momentum in your shop- that is wonderful!! 🤗❤️

    I heard of a few of those myths. I'm still too new to really have thoughts on some of those. Though i will say, when i first opened my shop about in September-ish (I opened towards the end of August), Etsy was taking down listings that were completely legit due to someone claiming to be netflix and was just flagging listings.
    When me and some of the other sellers tried contacting Etsy, the response i got was aggressive towards the sellers because the fake netflix claim was a copyright claim. It made me feel like Etsy didn't actually respect the sellers. It ended up getting resolved/restored, but the immediate aggressive response from Etsy made me feel worried for the future.
    The myth of trying to create a bunch of listings is one i hear the most, along with renewing listings. The problem with trying to constantly create new listings is just like what you said, quality. Because like, not every shop/niche can just pop up a new design or product. And even if you can, how is the quality of those products going to be?
    On a lighter note, my shop is now up to 24 sales 4 reviews, and people are still favoriting items and my shop. I guess people really do like building papercraft animal skeletons lol. I've got a lot planned for 2023, and i hope those different plans will really help push my shop forward.

    • @KateHayes
      @KateHayes  Год назад +2

      I’m sorry you had to deal with that! It’s hard because there are so many sellers openly violating copyright/intellectual property policy with not even a second thought and Etsy is trying to do their best to keep up with managing/responding to claims, etc. So sorry to hear they were aggressive toward you though- that should never be the case!
      That’s awesome that your shop is doing so well, congrats on your sales so far!! Way to go! 👏👏🤩

    My shop currently has 7 or8 listings on a regular basis. As a single man shop making items out of wood - even with a CNC and some very high end equipment - it isn't really possible for me to have even 16 stock items. I've been working through designing some more larger project to list (first one as stock to sell, then custom order with long lead times), but I have had only one person order something like that.
    I try to keep one item in the $30 - $50 range (tea bag display), one in the $50 - $100 range (valet trays), one in the $100 - $200 range (serving trays), and then some $1000+ record player stands. The lower priced items help drive sales quantity in the shop, which I think/hope helps people trust the shop more. I feel good about where its going.

    • @KateHayes

      That is wonderful, Jeff! It’s definitely smart to have listings in several different price ranges. It sounds like you’ve put a lot of thought into your strategy which is awesome. Congrats on getting off to a good start!! 👏👍🏼

    Payment processing fees are the kicker. It costs very little to transfer a payment, so why the percentage? Because they can. It frankly should be illegal

    Should we have a different Etsy page for Svgs and digital prints and templates or anything digital is okay on one page?

    • @KateHayes
      @KateHayes  Год назад

      Hi Maisey! It just depends on if they’re all in the same niche/category. It may be best to just start with one product + shop and build from there. But try to avoid several different products, especially if they’re all different themes.

    I open a shop last week and within the first hours it was suspended! I am still waiting to here back from Etsy after their initial email and I’m really hoping my shop get reinstated.

    • @willtroy1986
      @willtroy1986 Год назад

      Unfortunately, I think Kate doesn’t address these issues, when I’ve read and heard of multiple people on etsy having their shop and listings suspended and either no reason given or an error on Etsy’s part that took weeks to correct.
      You’re not alone in this. Etsy sellers are getting more and more fed up, I hope Etsy takes action to change!

    Hi Kate, I'm a beginner and will soon start print on demand on Etsy store but there's one thing I'm a bit confused about.
    Should I dedicate my whole store towards one niche or is it ok to create something like a gift store where I can list different types gift items? Thanks :)

    • @KateHayes
      @KateHayes  Год назад

      Different types of gifts in one store is fine as long as everything works together to make sense as one brand across the board (similar style elements, branding, etc) :)

    Some parts of this video could be a bit more clear. For example, you say that the ad listing fee, plus the transaction fee, plus all of the other fees are nowhere near 50%. Which is true, but by using the 50% as an anchor point, it kinda glosses over the fact that you can pay Etsy up to 25% of your revenue, and this is NOT clearly spelled out. Yikes.
    25% is still alot, and it cuts into sellers bottom lines enough that people should make sure they can bake those numbers into their business model.
    I like the info in some of your trends videos, but I’ve got to be honest and say that the tone of some of your videos seems to gloss over or be apologist for some of Etsy’s flaws, and I don’t know if that’s going to help you connect with your intended audience.
    I see lots of new people in the comments being excited, but I would urge you to share the good and the bad so that they don’t feel manipulated later when they find out that there are some great parts of Etsy, and some really challenging ones as well.
    Good luck and I hope this makes sense.
