Have you ever wondered how the James Webb Telescope could take a photo that's 13 billion years old? Or how light can reveal secrets from billions of years ago? In this video, I'm exploring the fascinating concept of the Doppler effect as it applies to light, known as redshift. By understanding redshift, and the expanding universe, scientists can peer almost 13.6 billion years into the past, observing the universe when it was just 2% of its current age.
I'll also be giving away an awesome Space Shuttle Lego set, so be sure to stick around until the end of the video to learn more about how you can win! Enter to win at the link below.

I know for a fact there are other lifeforms out there. There was even life on other planets in our own solar system millions of years ago. I have an image taken by the curiosity rover when it was in the Gale crater on Mars of a large reptile's fossilized remains. The wild thing is NASA employees know of it too because the Curiosity rover took a rock sample of one of it's fossilized vertebras and found it contained organic compounds. Indicating it was once a living breathing creature. It should have been front page news but they kept silent. I believe it's because they wanted to go back to Mars. I believe if they had proof the red planet once contained life there would be no other reason to fund future missions. Mystery solved. But, as long as there's a mystery to be solved there will be future grants available for more studies.
That's why so much funding goes to looking for dark matter and dark energy. They are the biggest mysteries to date that need solving. I believe they don't really want to solve them mysteries either. Well, as long as the money flows to them they'll keep dodging the solution. I solved the dark matter and dark energy mysteries many years ago. Wrote and published several books about them. I know they're dodging the solutions because it wasn't that difficult to figure them out.

Yes, tho it wont be very similar to us humans. They will be different to us depending on what kind of environment they live in, even possibly what kind of technology have they discovered. And their intelligence may also be different depending on their genes/evolutions. in simple words, they do exist but their appearances are adapted from their own environment. As well as their intelligence are merelt based off their genes.

If the universe is continuously expanding, there must be a spherically solid wall surrounding it. And how thick is the wall? There must be space outside this wall and another wall containing the space and so on?

I think that there is definitely life in our universe. The universe is big, very big and there are so many galaxies out there, so many possibilities. Life is not something that only happens once, it happens because of certain conditions being present and since the universe is so huge, there definitely is a chance of life happening in other planets. They (beings of other worlds) might be far away, young or dumb but there always is space for more life in the universe other than us.

The evolution of life on Earth from non-living matter to humans is a staggering feat with odds of 1 in a billion. And yet, we are still searching for life on other planets. This makes me believe that there must be some form of life beginning, ending, or growing somewhere in this vast and expanding universe.

When you zoom in on DNA, you realize that life is nothing more than complex physics and the nature of the universe. life is a product of the laws of physics and the forces that govern the universe. while it is true that DNA is made up of molecules that are governed by the laws of physics, life is also a product of evolution. Therefore, it is not accurate that life is "nothing more" than complex physics.

Just a small criticism on oversimplified assumptions with respective corrections in this awesome video:
    1. We [DON'T] know the expansion rate of the universe yet.
    2. We [DON'T] know if the Hubble constant is constant.
    3. We [DON'T] know it's inevitable to have life out there.

    I had a few questions:
    - first, Is the wavelength used to compare the redshifted one coming from a specific source, or is it just any wavelength for reference.
    - secondly, what exactly is being stretched in our universe? Is it matter (ie the space between atoms) or is it in fact in the void, the absence of matter (which I assume would make more sense?)
Thanks for your replies, keep up the amazing content!

    • @smeeself
      @smeeself 10 месяцев назад

It's not matter. The "space between atoms" is held together with greater force than the expansion of space. In fact, even the very very weak gravitational "force" is stronger in some places than that, which is why galaxy clusters can stay together and even individual galaxies still attract one another eg Andomoda and the Milky Way.

What amazes me is how people discard the fact that we still don't know if it is infinitely big or just extremely big. If it is infinitely big, then it can be implied that there is also an infinite number of planets that potentially hold life. The variations in each form of life can range from being very similar to completely different, which for me is mind-boggling. Additionally, I find it unsettling that as a species, we are not advanced enough to thoroughly explore and engage with other potential life forms before they vanish into uncharted territories.

Cosmic mysteries and the question of whether we are alone in space have always stimulated the human imagination. Maybe someday we will find out if we have space neighbors or if we are a lonely island in the ocean of the universe. It's both interesting and frightening at the same time.

Great video with excellent animation! 🙌
I think that it is very probable that life exist somewhere else than on earth but I also think that it's not probable that we will get in contact any time soon or ever. I mean the civilisation or even humanity has just existed for a glimpse on the timescale of the universe and the region of space that could detect our presence is very limited. Also, I like to think that other forms of life would be so different, that we would'nt even identify as such, considering that we already struggle to find a definition to life itself.

i feel like its like the problem which came first the chicken or the egg. there is a definitive answer to everything in the universe but we don't have enough knowledge/advancements to get to that answer

I am very intrigued by the idea that there would be advanced life in similar conditions as on land, but underwater. After all, one of the breakthroughs for man was fire, so it would certainly be fascinating to find out how they evolved.

Life is like, you know, this crazy roller coaster ride, man. It's like, you never really know what's gonna happen next, and it can be totally mind-blowing, right? Sometimes, it's all fun and games, and other times, it's like, a total bummer. But hey, we gotta keep pushing through, learning, and figuring stuff out, because that's what it's all about, bro. And, like, connecting with people and finding those good vibes, man, that's where the real magic happens. So, yeah, life's a wild journey

What is most shocking about all this is just what we can't see, and will never see. We talk about if there's life on mars, but looking at the sheer scale of the universe we can't even see, it seems completely inevitable that life exists somewhere out there

It’s definitely a possibility that life is out there in those far away galaxies is scary. But luckily as said in the video, everything is moving with the expansion of the universe. Space is amazing and also so scary.

The possibility of life formation anywhere in the universe is super low entropy. However if space is infinate, then the possibility gets greater and greater. We are evidence that life can exist, so even if in a form of bacteria, statistically life should exist somewhere in universe as well

the question of life in other galaxies remains an enigma that continues to inspire scientific investigation and philosophical contemplation. While our current understanding is limited, the exploration of exoplanets, the search for habitable zones, and the advancements in technology provide hope that we may one day uncover evidence of extraterrestrial life.

We actually had about this subject in school this year, so I knew most of it, except the cosmological redshift. But it was cool to see this video now about it, a good refresher.
And yes, I believe there is life out there and it may be closer than we think. It must surely be life in another galaxy, and that they could be as advanced as us. Which would sugggesst that they also would have a hard time finding us. But it could also be as close as on the moon Europa, but they are likely more primitive

You guys are absolutely amazing. I've always loved astronomy, and I have learned so much thanks to you! This redshift effect is spectacular! Huge support from Serbia! 🇷🇸❤
As for life in space, I believe it could be found. Scientists have already detected frozen bacteria on one of Saturn's frozen moons, Europa if I'm not mistaken? I want to imagine our space is something like Star Wars, and that we as a human race won't dissapear. We'll be able to develop and peacefully interact with other species, once we discover them.
    Everything is possible! I'm optimistic!
