    Andrew!! If you read this comment, pls know that I can’t thank you or bless you enough!! A single mother with no man in the house, I plucked up the courage to finally refresh the walls. That in itself was such a learning curve. Then I saw countless video to learn how to dismantle the radiator to paint behind. While all of them were useful and I learnt something from each one, I still struggled to dismantle it... So on the right side union screw I kept trying to loosen it by pushing downward. It worked in the left, so I figured that was the correct thing to do on the right.
    When it wouldn’t budge, I was losing hope and panicking thinking I am damaging the pipes in the process. Your clearly mentioning that we need to push up on the right to loosen the Union screw literally SAVED my day!! 🙏🙏🙏 I have finally managed to dismantle the radiator and recovered a modicum of self confidence in my DIY skills. I thank you from the bottom of my heart. May you live a long, happy life!! 🥰😍🙏🙏

    Good top for you use 15mm compression stop ends on the rad tails makes it much easier and no water lost on carpet or floor

    If it’s a TRV do you need to then cap the valves on both sides after you shut off?

    Hi Andrew, good video, easy to follow, I especially like the tip about checking the bleed screw before unscrewing everything. I've followed the steps to remove a rad for decorating but have run into a problem, one or both valves appear not to be shutting off. One side has a lock shield valve, I've turned it up and down a few times and it still come to rest in the same position when shut, I've even tapped it on the top and side with a hammer lightly and I've removed the cap from the thermostatic valve to check the valve is moving and that appears okay but I'm still getting a steady flow from the bleed tap. Cheers, Tim

      Hi Tim, unfortunately, this can happen in very rare circumstances. The valves can pass slightly. If it is a vented system you can bung off the feed a vent pipe to give enough time to cap off the valves. This can be awkward though some times though.

      Hi Andrew, thanks for your reply, I've taken rads off before and had no problems so I thought it would be a bit of an issue, think I'll leave this one to a pro. Cheers,

    hi, so when you are undoing the nuts is it always from the left that the nut goes down to the floor and the right hand side goes up to undo, thanks, mark.

      Hi Mark, just remember, righty-tighty and lefty-loosey.
      Always remember to hold the opposite direction when tightening the valve as this can cause the valve to kink and damage the pipe and fitting.

      hi andrew, i mean the union nuts to remove the radiator off the wall, one loosens up and one loosens down ,which is which and does it apply all the time, thanks, mark.

      The same principle applies, you can only tighten or loosen the same way. I suppose it just appears different as the nuts are sideways on.
      The union/nut on the right side of the rad, you would apply pressure upward (to remove) and the opposite way for the union to the left side of the rad .
      Just remember to hold against the valve though. Hope this helps.

      thanks, so undoing the nut is always the same on the radiators left hand side down to undo union nut and right side of radiator would be up to undo the union nut.

    Is it the same process for a radiator that’s doesn’t have a thermostat? The radiator I want to take off is the one that controls the other radiators in the house

    • @HomeglowLtd
      @HomeglowLtd  4 года назад

      Hiya, how do you mean controls the other radiators in the house? If its just two lockshield valves (Not thermostatic) then you would need to turn both valves off by turning the stem to the right until they are off. just open the bleed to make sure the radiator is isolated.

    Hi can you turn on heating with the radiator off the wall?

    • @HomeglowLtd
      @HomeglowLtd  6 лет назад

      Hiya, definitely. just make sure the valves are water tight once turned off and the radiator removed.

    When you take the radiator off and put the boiler back on will it leak from the water from the valve?

    • @HomeglowLtd
      @HomeglowLtd  3 года назад

      If the valves work good then they should not leak but as a temporary measure tou could get some 15mm blanks that will screw over the end of the open radiator valves.

    I’d just count the number of turns on the lock valve in case you throw the system out of balance.

    So with taking this radiator off can I use my central heating still with this radiator off the wall?

      Hiya, sorry for late reply. Your central heating system should work absolutely fine by removing your radiator.

    Search for "Radshifter", now available to move any size Radiator , with ease.

    Just thought I`d like to make a comment here, Those brutal dogs to hold the Radiator valve? Those valves were not really tight and I can see a mark on the chrome already ! Now it is ok to "thumb" the radiator and invert it, if its is a smallish rad, what if its a larger Rad? have a look on ABD tools site for an alternative to doing it this way.

      Radtubeclamp Everything you said is right about the radiator been taken off before. This video is only there to educate people so needed it to be a simple video. I don't see the need for any fancy tools to just take a radiator off for the occasional time to decorate behind.

    Too much preamble, too much irrelevant and repeated detail and poor camera work. That's why professionals rehearse first and use a script.

      I appreciate your comments and will take some of it onboard. I do waffle lol. But I am not a trained camera man neither would I do a script as I am a busy tradesman
