I received answers from Bluesound concerning the USB Audio output: It will be both Class 1 and Class 2 with max 24/192. The update enabling this is probably due within two months. Doing MQA decoding (not rendering, of course) over USB will probably due later this year. As soon as a working sample is available, I will get a review sample on loan. As soon as a PowerNode is available for these, I will receive that too.
I’m watching this a second time several months after publication. Thank you so much for the color coded system setup visuals: they are invaluable for understanding the use and context of the products you are reviewing
Just got mine today. Plugged to an old Denon7200WA with a Paradigm Prestige 5.1.4 system. Sources are Amazon and local Synogoly. Setup was easy thanks to internet for Synology connection. App is used on old iPhone6s and I like the interface. Easy to use. DAC seems better than the Denon... listening to Molly Johnson - Another Day as I think it's a nice recording and this Summertime version is also one of my fav after JJ's. Thank Hans for your great videos... I m learning something each time I discover one of your post.
Great video to keep us up to speed Hans! In 2018, I researched Roon Ready and MQA DACs for several months before purchasing my Node 2i. I feel that the Node 2i has great quality, features and interconnects for the price. My Bluesound product has never disappointed me.
Good as always! It would be very informative to also rate the sound quality via the digital output, when used with a reference DAC of your choice, vs other streamers' digital output. Many people already have their DAC of choice. The Node 2i didn't measure very well on digital output, perhaps this new one is cleaner. But what matter most is what a trained ear can spot in the sound vs other streamers' digital out(s).
Great review (as always). I am glad it seems that Bluesound has taken on board two irritating issues that many users (me included) had. 1. They ditched the rubbery material used for the case of the unit. This rubber disintegrates over time and is impossible to clean it. 2. They changed the power supply, hopefully getting rid of leaky capacitors and other issues. And addition of HDMI Arc will be useful to many people. Thumbs up for the upgrade!!!
@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel It was the infamous constant red light problem. The streamer looks as it is in the upgrade mode. Usual procedures like resets etc. don't help, because the root of the problem is in hardware fault (power supply). Many people had this.
I’m another person who got the 2i a short time before this new Node was announced. I am glad to hear that the new node isn’t a big improvement on the sound and I will stick with the one I have. Thanks for the fine review.
So I did have a Node2i that I bought literally less then a month before the Node was announced. So I returned the Node2i and exchanged it for a preorder on the Node. And no, I didn’t have to do that, since the changes are minimal, but the giant difference it made for me, was the addition of the HDMI connection, as my main music system is doubled as the speakers for my TV in the living room. So it was the perfect center piece for my system, which is mainly old school analog, and the TV only has optical connection, which sucks. So being able to send audio over eArc, was a nobrainer.
I doubt anyone is going to trade up from a node 2i to the new node even without knowing about the lack of differentiation on the sound quality. Updates like this are as much for the manufacturers to redesign boards, change pcb suppliers etc to reduce production costs, etc as they are about enticing people to upgrade.
Yes I think that commentary on how well the Node works (and how it sounds) as a digital streamer, without using its internal DAC, would be very helpful to the legions of users using the unit in this way.
If you want a higher quality using the Node with an external DAC is an uncertain router. A chain is only as strong as the weakest link. Although the Node is great for the money, it's not the ideal source for a higher quality DAC.
First of your videos I’ve seen and I was thrilled to see you share and describe the internals which was my primary curiosity after doing much reading. Thank you from a new subscriber.
Thank you for this video. You are well informed on the product features and it's capabilities. your explanation is great. love the accent. I will stay tuned in to your channel. Thank You.
I have just purchased the node 2i that I'm really happy with. Then the 30 day return expires. 4 days later the new Node is advertised to be released in June. I was so pissed off until I saw this video. It doesn't seem like the new upgrades will be utilized for the way I listen to music, nor will it have a significant sound improvement. Thanks Hans for easing my tensions! You're awesome! :-)
I experienced the same with the NAD MDC bluos module. I contacted NAD and bluesound several times in order to know when the upgrade to the „2i“ version would come and wether AirPlay 2 would be implemented through a firmware update (as yamaha did for example). They just wouldn‘t spill the info, blaming it on apple. Then, just weeks later, the 2i version popped and I was left with my brand new, non AirPlay 2 module. I was really frustrated. Just knowing wether the new module would be released after 4 weeks or 6 months would have been so helpful…
I wish a quick comparison for the digital output vs the node 2i would have been made, lots of us out there with that setup… Love the channel anyways, keep up the good work!
Hans, your graphic is wrong. It clearly states that the output from the Node is XLR when it's RCA only. Otherwise, another detailed and informative review. Keep them coming.
Thanks Hans, I love my Node 2i, mostly definitely the most enlightening piece of hifi gear I've ever owned, great for discovering new music especially combined with the free access to Radio Paradise or using Tunein radio and access to the world!. No complaints about Audio quality either. Crazy value. I found connecting the coax out to a Schiit multibit DAC made little if any difference for me so sold the dac and saved the money. One thing I'd like to know is if once the USB output option is enabled will you be testing it with a couple of dacs at different price points to see if there is any added benefit over the onboard dac or a coax un-synced dac :-P Cheers!
@Homer, that is the same thing that bothers me, how reviewers skip to do a comparison on how it works with the built-in vs. external DAC. My experience with Node 2 (not even 2i) is that an external DAC improved things a lot in my case (NuPrime Dac-9). @Hans - you could simply do such a video with your 2i you apparently own in your setup 2. It doesn't have to be the new Node, as you said the sound difference is less than tiny, somwe can assume they're more than comparable.
@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel I agree with Homer it would indeed be interesting hear your insights with comparsion with 2i and other more expensive streamers using an external DAC. Bought my Node 2 in mint condition for €200. Connecting it to my Hegel HD25 DAC was a big improvement! Find the app fast, intuitive and stable. Thank you for a good channel and high quality reviews!
@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel Also does it do full MQA decoding or only rendering when used with external DAC? Or does it even stream MQA at all using external DAC?
I really like my Bluesound Vault with the CD ripper and 2TB storage to act as my music server, well one of them. I use my Plex App to access the 500 CDs I ripped with it as well as the DVDs and BlueRays I ripped from my computer. Plex can also control the Vault as well as my much larger primary server but Bluesound has a fairly decent app of its own
Ah ha, another plex user. Interesting...I was under the impression that bluesound didn't support plex at all - especially the node. It seems the vault is an exception. No plex support on the node has kept me from considering it. In fact, I haven't come across much that supports plex...
Sincere thanks for this very comprehensive & knowledge laden review! It certainly reinforces the tremendous value of the 2021 Bluesound Node. Although I immensely appreciate excellent sound quality & will buy the 2021 Node, I don't have the budget for a very high end system or interconnects. I own a 3 yr old Marantz SR7012 AV Receiver but not a dedicated DAC. In your opinion, would it be best to connect the 2021 Node via RCA cables to maximize the usage of the onboard Node DAC? If yes, can you suggest a maximum bang for the buck RCA Interconnect pls?
Thanks for getting the Node review out so quickly. I’m still using the Node 2 just as a streamer and a place to access my flac files via hard drive. I actually had a 2i for comparison but the 2 sounded better to me personally, so I returned the 2i. Since I’m only using the streamer and usb access the new features on the new Node (as well as the 2i) don’t interest me. Probably not what Bluesound would want to hear, but there it is. I wonder how many people use this the same way I do - a few people have said they do the same.
Hi Hans, I am using the node2i with my Hegel H390. Only using it as a transport from the digital coaxial out to the digital input in the H390. Using the H390 DAC. Will changing the node2i for this new one give any improvements to the sound quality in my case? In your opinion? Thanks for a great review! Br:Kris
Hi Hans, a little off topic, but I wonder if you could do a video on how - in general - to best divide your money between the different equipment? There could be some general ballpark "rules" for this, perhaps in percentage. For instance, if I own a E7000 integrated amp, in what range should I look for loudspeakers? Would E3500 do, or E7000, or E10 000 range or more be more appropriate? Would a E1700 DAC do, or would I miss out on the potential of that amp? What about cables? I know the only way is really to test for oneself, but it is hard and very timeconsuming, especially on heavy gear imported from abroad, without some general idea. Thanks.
Hi again, I just discovered you actually covered this in an earlier video: ruclips.net/video/3Atd-DQ2PlI/видео.html Thanks again, seems I will have to seriously save up some money to look for speakers...
Excellent video Hans. Looking at main boards doesn’t typically interest me but seeing that removable BluOS card and power supply less cluttered gives me confidence that Lenbrook is investing in BluOS from Hardware and Software fronts appropriately.
As I understand only downside for some people can be Node's internal DAC, but I guess it can be completly bypassed when connected to another external or integrated amplifier DAC via digital connection (Optical or Coax) am I right? Thanks
That's not the downside. The Node has a proper DAC for the money. But some upgrade the DAC and forget that, although fine for the money, the digital signal coming from the Node is the limiting factor. So they buy a DAC and only get a return of investment that - depending on the quality of the DAC, will be limited.
Great and very informative video, thank you for the review. Would you suggest the internal dac from this Node 2021 or external dac, in my case it would be Schiit Modius? Thanks again.
Very cool product! I'm interested in using this spdif bypassing the internal dac then running it through my holo spring kte dac. I wonder if apple's new high res streaming service will work with this no problems.
My question also. I want a nice quality Airplay receiver to output via the optical into an external DAC. Though I am only interested in the CD quality lossless not the high res.
@@adelkharisov I’ve read about that. I’m using an old Apple TV box which has opt out for Lossy but not sure if it will deal with lossless, it might. Otherwise I will try the Yamaha streamer which is 1/3 the cost of this one.
Excellent review. I just watched this as I am thinking of picking up the Node. I wish to use it with my Apple Music subscription. Most reviewers barely mention how the Node can be used with Apple Music. They concentrate on Amazon, Tidal, Spotify, etc. Can you give me your opinion of how the Node will work with Apple Music? Will I be able to enjoy the highest quality offerings from Apple Music and how would I use the Node to achieve this (Bluetooth, Airplay, ethernet,...)? Also, will the eARC input work my TV's ARC connection? My TV does not have eARC.
Hi Hans, thanks again for a great review. I saw a comment in another of your videos where you said the Node 2i's digital output is a limiting factor, when using it with the Ares2 and Pontius2. Has there been an improvement to the digital output of the new Node that removes this limiting factor? Thanks
Dear Hans, thank you for your wonderful content. I want to choose betweeb 2i and new node. Can I request your advise on 2 points please. I have a Denafrips Ares 2 DAC. If I chose to use it over the internal Dac's , does it matter which version of Bluesound i use. If there is no perceptible difference in audio quality, i might as well buy a 2nd hand 2i and save money. Can you please advise. Also if you have experience with Ares 2, do you think it may be better to get rid of it. Because the new node's internal DAC is atleast as good as the as the Ares 2.
The question should be if either the old or the new Node have digital outputs that do justice to the qualities of the Ares II. The difference between the two Nodes is rather small sound wise. But I think the Ares II can perform better if a better digital source is used. The problem is that the BlueSound user interface is very good. Perhaps you can find a second hand NAD streamer that uses the Bluesound technology.
Hi Hans, love the channel firstly! Hans and other readers, I have just been looking at the Bluesound Website and as of 26 July 2021, it shows the Node as being 'Roon Ready'...this may update readers and inform their choice...hope this helps! Hans would you recommend incoporating a separate DAC like a Denafrips Ares II to improve the digital to analogue conversion?
Very Helpful Hans, Thank you. I have a choice of the 2i for $440 US new or the Node 2021 for $550 new. I will be using a Denafrips Ares II as my external DAC. Will the improved power supply of the New Node be an improvement over the 2i. using an external, higher resolution DAC? Will there be any other Sonic improvements? What is your favorite Nederlandse Craft Beer? Cheers from California
@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel Thank you Hans, I've watched your video twice, carefully. Perhaps if I watch it a 3rd time I will understand more. However, as others below have asked about 1. Sound comparison / improvement with /without an external DAC, and I would still like to know about: 2. Power supply contributing to sonic improvement both with internal and external DAC may I ask that you indulge us and ask the distributor for another bite of the apple? (another test sample). This for the audiophiles you advise who must budget their hifi investment more carefully. Thank you again Hans, I truly appreciate your excellent presentations.
Very informative indeed. Have been contemplating on purchasing. Query...what capacity HDD can the Node handle i.e would it be able to read a 4 or 5TB external hdd connected via USB?
It's not the HD capacity but the amount of metadata that defines the capacity. So if you use very large cover pictures, that will limit the amount of tracks that can be indexed. My test HD has 30,000 tracks and they were all indexed. The capacity must be more, I guess.
@Hans - has it been indexing your hard disk connected to Node USB port, or on your Samba shared network drive? As what I remember from earlier on, it was not indexing directly connected USB sticks, and I never tried the actual HDD (I assume it's the same); only network drives were indexed. It would be great to know if that had changed or is it still network drives only. User manual could also tell that, ai believe a PDF could be found online @Roshan
Thanks for the prompt response. I have also come to understand an issue called "Red Light of death" on the node! Are you aware of this? Any feedback or thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.
Hello Hans! Thank you so much for what you do. I recently got back into listening to music in a way I did 20 or so years ago. I've watched this video a few times and I have a question that might be an easy one for you. I have a Bluesound Node, Apple TV 4K (2nd Generation) and a 2022 LG OLED evo C2 TV (as well as a Leak Stereo 130, and Wharfedale Denton 85th Anniversary speakers). All possible equipment is connected with Cat 7 Ethernet cables. Currently I have the following configuration - LG TV HDMI eARC port has an HDMI eARC cable connected to the Bluesound Node. The Node is connected to the Leak Stereo 130 via quality RCA cables, and the Denton 85 speakers are connected to the Stereo 130 AUX ports via high quality cables. The area that's unclear to me is if I should run the eARC cable from the Apple TV 4K (2nd Generation) to the Node. I use the Apple TV for 95% of my viewing (Netflix, AppleTV+, HBO Max) and I also like to use the Tidal app on the Apple TV so that I can see what's playing, which the LG TV obviously does. Given I don't use any native LG TV apps or use the LG TV for much more than a monitor, I'm wondering if I'm missing out on better sound by not having the eARC cable go from the Apple TV to the Node. I've looked far and wide on RUclips and watched some of the best RUclips Hifi people/Channels, and they get so close to addressing this, but I've not found the answer. I suspect I'm not the only one with this question. So, if time permits in your schedule, I'd be very appreciative if you shared your thoughts. Thank you so much in advance! Warmly, Dan
In priceable the sound of the Apple TV, when connected to the tv, should be relayed to the Node. Whether that sounds ok depends on the quality of the tv and the cabling used. Why not just try and listen.
Thanks for this review. Your work is ALWAYS super informative. I do wonder if Bluesound might eventually be competing with NAD, which is a bit of a "self own." The NAD C358 streamer has had some problematic quality control issues that aren't found with the Bluesound Node 2.1 (at 1/3 the cost). It's going to be interesting to see what shakes out over time.
Only started watching your channel recently, great content👍do you think that the bluesond node would work well with elac unifi reference bookshelf and iota pa3 monoblocks as a stereo only system?chat later
Hello Hans, Another excellent content! Thanks for which! What is your opinion about multichannel audio? Does it have any future? Have you planned to or reviewed that kind of equipment? Bests
I think that the majority of people will have problems having a decent 5.1 setup in the room. Not only aesthetically but also financially. In my opinion you better spend the same money on two speakers instead of 5 and the same goes for the amps. Bu that's just me. I have a surround setup for movies and TV but that is a lot simpler than my stereo setup and I never use it for music.
@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel Hello Hans, Thanks a lot for your reply! I have not considered it from that perspective but I agree with you. Limited availability and use of the 5.1 systems for audio listening would probably limit production of multichannel audio content. With my bests. Vencislav
Great video! In terms of indexing and general operation. How much is the difference between the NODE and Node 2i, given the much faster CPU. Also do you think getting a POWERNODE N330 would be a more musical amp compared to my Yamaha 303? Wonder about AB vs Digital amp. In fairness the 303 sounds great with my entry level Monitor Audio 200’s. Thank you.
In practice there is no difference between the Node dan the Node 2i. I have not reviewed the Powernode nor the Yamaha you mention, so I can’t say which one is better.
@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel Hi Hans, thank you. So you are saying in terms of the speed of operation when using say Tidal, there is no difference? One thing that also gets to me is how slow the Musiccast app populates the app with albums artworks etc. I guess given they are the same price, I would be best to still get the latest over 2i used? Thank you again!
Hello Hans. Thank you for your detailed videos. My question: I have an ELAC Discovery with Roon Essentials, but unfortunately it's becoming weaker and weaker. Since I don't want to be without Roon anymore: Can I operate and control the Bluesound with the Roon Essentials? Would be nice to know something... Best regards
I wrote this to Bluesound Support: I have the Node 2i connected through the Coaxial S/PDIF to my Denafrips Terminator DAC. Should I expect a noticeable improvement with the 2021 Node USB audio signal ? Will the Node 2i USB ever be capable of digital audio signal ? and received this: Hello there, Thank you for contacting the Bluesound Support Crew. Here's what we know about the new Node(N130); 1.) The NODE (N130) features a PCM 5242 Burr-Brown DAC, which has been implemented with a differential output design in an endeavor to cancel out as much unwanted noise as possible. In comparison, the NODE (N130) measures in at -113dB SNR and 0.002% distortion due to this change, a notable improvement over the NODE 2i's -110dB SNR and 0.005% distortion. 2.) As always, a faster processor means a faster brain - we continue to try and future-proof our products by over spec-ing them for whatever tomorrow brings - so that remains to be seen. 3.) We made some tweaks last time around and are very happy with the power supply in the NODE 2i and continue to use it in the new NODE (N130). 4.) We have also added a proximity sensor to the new NODE 5.) Audio can be outputted via the USB 2.0 port on the new NODE 6.) We have also added an HDMI eArc port for Audio Input to the NODE There should be an upgrade to the overall sound quality of the unit with the new and improved hardware implemented in the unit. However, we do not know the overall limitations of the USB out from the unit and we await the launch to understand the unit better. For more about firmware updates, new products, or other great news, please Follow Us on Facebook at facebook.com/bluesound.hifi, Like us on Twitter @BluesoundHiFi. Hope this helps! Thanks for #LivingHiFi. Ruddho The Bluesound Support Crew my notes: 1.) I don't know if I would be able to hear the difference between -110dB and -113dB SNR nor 0.005% and 0.002% distortion... 2.) As you stated in your video, the 2i processor is already faster than necessary. 3.) the power supplies definitely looked different in your video, is your 2i an early version ? I haven't taken mine apart. 4.) proximity sensor; ahh, good in the dark with those extra controls but I never touch my 2i directly 5.) Potentially Great, is it going to be better than the Coaxial S/PDIF output ??? I'm sure someone knows somewhere... 6.) I use strictly with a 2 channel music only system, I'm sure someone will appreciate the benefit... 7.) and they just all together neglected the "Node 2i USB ever be capable of digital audio signal" question... Anyway, Thanks for your Exceptional Videos Mr. Hans !!!
Thanks Hans for this review. Is the new Bluesound Node a good device to add eARC functionally to a Mytek Brooklyn Brige with the Ferrum Hypsos power supply? Or what is a better solution to add eARC to the Brooklyn Bridge?
Thanks a lot for the review. I am planning to use the HDMI-earc to improve the sound quality coming from my TV, considering a good external DAC is already there. Would this be a good plan? Or maybe I should just buy some HDMI-audio extractor? The latter is way cheaper.
good day Hans, first thank you for your Chanel and your reviews. this is not about this topic. Do you have the sotm switch with or without the internal clock? second I got the Eno system and I have to say it makes a difference!!!! the music becomes more analogically et more open thanks Patrick
well Hans got the SoMT switch and wow!!!!! thanks for the review so now got like you from Router to streamer. Once the burn in period elapse I will switch the Eno system from being between the SoMt switch and streamer to between nether switch and some switch to see if it makes a difference .... cheers
Where Bluesound outshines anything else in the segment is by allowing absolute bit-identical streaming making it possible to stream DTS, AC3 content from a local library. All it takes is setting fixed volume at 100%, tone controls and volume normalizing off. Both Sonos and Heos resamples everything and destroys any encoding in the process. Add the ability to handle my two-channel 24 bit/48kHz or 96kHz library to the handling all my DTS 5.1 music and nothing beats Bluesound while being usable for the entire family and not just the techies.
Hi Hans, excellent review! Thank you for your video. I just purchased one based on your review. The ongoing discussion about MQA (I watched your earlier video) got me thinking about "distortion" in the entire audio chain. In this case "distortion" being any deviation from the source (example chain: voice or musical instrument-->recording space-->microphone-->a/d-->recording system-->mixing-->mastering-->rendering-->data transportation-->d/a-->amplification-->speaker-->playback space-->human ear. Do you have or are you aware of any scientific studies on how the human ear system physically distorts sound?
I think that's the wrong question for the brain interprets the signal. The physical part of our auditory system does alter the acoustic signal. Watch ruclips.net/video/3rmqoZwS6SM/видео.html.
Hello Hans congrats for your video. I have a Cambridge AXR 100 that is supposed to have a dac integrated. I want to get a good streamer player for tidal and Spotify, what options do i have for using my macbook pro or just using the streaming with an app of my celular? Is there a dac streamer that no need phone or laptop at all?
Great video with lots of useful information. I am very excited to see that there now is a possibility to connect the Node via USB to a DAC. That alone is enough reason for me to upgrade.
Dear Hans, many thanks for your great reviews, really enjoy watching those. I have a question though. I am considering to either go for a classical amplifier (Atoll, AVM in the 2500 price range) combined with a streaming device (e.g. Node, Elac) vs an all-in-one solution (Naim, Cambridge etc). My question in regards to music/ streaming quality would be, if there are any general downsides of an external streaming module vs an all in One solutions ? (assuming similar overall budget spent). Would appreciate your thoughts on that, Many thanks
Hans, a very good review, as always. I just received my Node yesterday and have enjoyed it. I am curious about hooking the Node with preamplification to an integrated amplifier. What volume should be used for the Node in order to produce the best input signal for the integrated amp? I have tried full volume but get humming when nothing is playing and that is with my integrated amp at a very low volume. Thank you for what you do.
Set the volume control on the Node way down, then set the volume control on the amp on '11 hour' and finally increase the volume on the Node until a comfortable listening level is obtained.
Usb out? That’s very interesting if it will function as a transport with usb. Will wait to see the implementation and what sample rates can be transmitted through usb.
If I currently use a Bluesound Node and later ad a NAD receiver with BluOS, does the Node become an endpoint? My music library is in a Synology NAS, which device will keep track of the music library/metadata? Great news on your surgery. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Hans, I appreciate your reviews and the great detail you deliver. I was hoping you might review the new Arcam ST60 streamer/DAC. This was recommended to me, but I have not seen a good review on line - would value your expertise in reviewing it. Thanks so much!
Thanks for the video, very useful and clear ! I was wondering if it is possible to connect the bluesound to an amplifier through the optic cable? Or the mini jack? My amplifier does not have more than 2x2 rca input that are used by the speakers(it’s an smslad18). Thanks in advance !
Such a Pitty Hans that you don't talk about how I use (and many or enough people?) my Bluesound N130 : only as a streamer! So I don't use it's not so good Dac. And with a good powercord like the Audioquest Z2 , perhaps even with a external powersupply like the Sbooster I would like to hear your opinion about it than! Is it not in that way at the same level as for example the Lumin U1 mini or the newer Lumin U2 mini? The Node 130 has the largely underestimated Hdmi e ARC for my LG oled television with superior sound. And the 'high end' Lumins doesn't!! A home theater needs also good sound so I am hesitating about the two systems. What are your thoughts Hans or better: can you make a dedicated Video for this since to my opinion (perhaps expectations) the DAC is a very important more important device to choose separately. I do use the Chord Quetest for example. Friendly greetings, vriendelijke groet :-) Onno Nugteren.
Hello Hans, this is a answer I cannot follow and this is not true compared with the bluesound N130 with for example the very important Hdmi eARC for home theater use: there is not such a device to my knowledge with the same sound quality etc etc. 'on a dedicated digital out only device.' Do you know a good or better sounding high end kind of level which does all this? Let alone affordable? ( €500-€3000?) Even the Lumin U1 mini is not doing this, and to my experience the connection to my LG Oled with good quality toslink optical wiring ( QED Reference Optical Quartz) is of a far less Quality than with the Hdmi eArc connected with good quality Audioquest hdmi cables. This is my problem. Is it possible for you to give advise or is it also for you to be tested once? I would like to buy a Lumin U1or 2 mini but wondering whether this would be a so much better because you can improve the Bluesound Node 130 a LOT with a better powercable and perhaps BEST: to change the power part and use a SBooster with a super powercord for a less money than the Lumin U2 mini and have thus a super sound for television too! 🙂
I know this is not an easy question I perhaps have to find out ( as usual) for myself but easy questions I can answer myself quickly and are not interesting. :-)
@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel to which truth? I wasn't asking only about the Hdmi eARC only, in general how would it be all I have written. But ok no answers are giffen today, a pitty, you could of answered I have not tested it yet, I don't know. Friendly greetings again, Onno Nugteren.
Hartelijk dank! Groet, Leo
Hello! Excellent video thnank you very much! I have 3 questions: (i) I owe a Rega Brio amp with a pair of Borea BR03 speakers, would you recommend to conect my audiotechnica record player to my node 2i and trough it to the amp? (ii) would you say you develop more audio quality if using cable ethernet conexion than wifi? (iii) would you recommend changing the RCA box cable of this particular streamer? Thanks again and greetings from Peru!!
Hello Mr. Beekhuyzen, First off, I am a new and very happy subscriber. Thank you so much for such an amazing content. Bravo! After many years, I am coming back into the hobby, and I am looking for a simple solution for my listening needs and wants. I am considering the new Powernode 2021 to drive a pair of Q Acoustics 3020i. It is not a super high end system, but it should serve me well for a few years. Do you think buying the new Powernode model is worth or should I just get the 2i and save some money? In addition, would the 2i suffice to dive the 3020is? Hopefully, your busy schedule will allow for a response. Greetings from the U.S.
Thank you for this interesting review. Can you telle if it is possible to adjust the TV volume directly with the TV remote control if the node is connected to eARC? I don't want to use the amp remote or my smartphone if I'm watching TV... Thanks
HI Hans, Thank you for the videos , I would have one question about my setup: I just bought the 2021 Node, as all sources (TV) are connected to the Node would it be better to connect it directly to the Rotel power amp RB-1070, skipping the pre amp Rotel RC-1070? Thank you , Cristian
Hello Hans, thank you for yet another thorough in depth review, I have a question for you to help me reach audioNirvana: I have my system and especially my streamer (old Node 2i which I'll be upgrading to this new model) far from my internet modem, two floors upstairs. I wonder which internet connection option would sound better and have less jitter for this device in particular: 1. A Wifi mesh with direct wifi connection to the Node 2i 2. A Wifi router upstairs to convert the signal from the wifi mesh into Ethernet and then to the node 2i 3. A couple of fibre-optic media converters, from my modem downstairs and then into Ethernet to the node 2i upstairs via optical fiber cable of course Thanks for any guidance
Fibre will not make much of a difference on this level of equipment. Don't get me wrong, the Node is great but to have fibre make a difference you need to look at a network player of at least triple the price. Just use the wifi mesh. That probably will do a great job (depending on the number of other wifi base stations in your direct surroundings.
And now an update to the BlueSound VAULT 2021 - including HDMI and (finally!) WiFi / WLAN! I would buy it IMMEDIATELY. In knowledge of the computing power of the new NODE / POWER NODE versions, however, it is inexplicable to me why the devices do not offer CD ripping as a side effect with an (external) CD / DVD / Blu-Ray drive. As mentioned: (ARM-) computing power is now more than necessary available ...
Hi Hans, I have a headphone only setup based around a Chord Mojo / Poly which is limited by how much of my music I can fit on the SD card. I am considering replacing the Poly section with a Node 2i and running all my music (approximately 2TB) through it via the USB input. There seems to be a difference of opinion on-line on whether the Node 2i can read and index a large disk drive. The users who have said that it can be done, have also said that the sound via USB is better than that streamed from a NAS. Have you tried connecting a drive to your Node and on any of the many items of equipment you have reviewed, noticed a degradation of the sound running from a NAS?
My Node is running from a share on the Intel NUC that runs Roon Rock. When Roon is not used and I use Bluesound OS, the NUC functions like a SMB share on a NAS. That works fine. I did have it running with the Synology J119 NAS and that functioned as well. But indexing the volume took longer.
Should this post be pinned, so that it appears at the top of these comments?
You’re right
I’m watching this a second time several months after publication. Thank you so much for the color coded system setup visuals: they are invaluable for understanding the use and context of the products you are reviewing
My pleasure
Agreed!
Thank you, Hans!
I'm very happy with my Node 2i, but the unexpected addition of HDMI-arc opens up more capability.
Great review, as always!
👍
I highly appreciate your honesty regarding the barely improved sound!!!
That makes it sound as if the sound quality is poor. And that certainly isn't the case.
@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel I wished it would best the sound of the 2i by more than a little bit.
Same here.
Even the 2i surpasses all other options available in term of sound quality, so I wouldn't complain too much...

I always appreciate your clear and concise reviews. Great information. Thank you, sir.
Good point!
Didn’t the capacitors fail on some units? Are there better capacitors now?
@@17cream Maybe Hans would know, I am not an expert, but changing power supply would indicate they are aware of the problem and trying to solve it.
I know of no problems with capacitors. I had a Node, then a Node 2 and now a Node 2i.
Totally agree
Another great in-depth review. Looking forward listening to the new Node myself. Bedankt Hans!
👍
Welcome
Uncle Hans.. You're the man!!! Always look forward to your reviews and lessons... You rock!!
Glad you like them!
Very thorough and informative - you made me a subscriber - thank you for the unbiased review which is greatly appreciated.
Awesome, thank you!
Thank you for this video. You are well informed on the product features and it's capabilities. your explanation is great. love the accent. I will stay tuned in to your channel. Thank You.
Welcome
Excellent, as usual, Hans. Many thanks
Glad you enjoyed it
At home for 2 months. Great device. Fantastic sound. Not normal. TOP!
Great to hear!
Just purchased a Node 2i at a significant discount ($200 off) on the basis of your evaluation. Thanks for saving me some money.
Glad I could help!
my pleasure.
Once again, a very good and detailed review Hans. Thanks.

You reviews are always very well thought out and produced

Excellent, clear and relevant review, thank you very much !
My pleasure!
Thanks Hans, good to hear all of those details. I have mine on preorder, shipping early June '21.

Great review Hans. Thank you very much.🙂
My pleasure!
I wish a quick comparison for the digital output vs the node 2i would have been made, lots of us out there with that setup…
Love the channel anyways, keep up the good work!
I only had the unit for a week. I didn't try but I think there will be no difference.
Hans, your graphic is wrong. It clearly states that the output from the Node is XLR when it's RCA only. Otherwise, another detailed and informative review. Keep them coming.
Thanks for reporting
Quietly delivering some of the best review content there is. Thanks as always!
Much appreciated!
One thing I'd like to know is if once the USB output option is enabled will you be testing it with a couple of dacs at different price points to see if there is any added benefit over the onboard dac or a coax un-synced dac :-P
Cheers!
I might (no promise)
@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel Thanks Hans

Nice job Hans, as always!
Many thanks!
Those of us who use it as a streamer only and run it to an external dac would like to know how the streamer portion scales to better equipment.
I'll see what I can do. But it's not likely I can get another review sample on short notice.
Does it do the MQA unfold in the USB/Xmos since it does not use regular dac chips?
Very good review. Thanks for really breaking it down. 👍
👍🏻
Hi Hans,
I'm glad to hear that you like it.

I don't know. They might value customers that are happy with their product for they might be their promoters.
Br:Kris
It's like I said in the video.
Excellent review thank you
Very welcome
Thanks.
Hi again, I just discovered you actually covered this in an earlier video: ruclips.net/video/3Atd-DQ2PlI/видео.html
Thanks again, seems I will have to seriously save up some money to look for speakers...
👍🏼
Excellent video Hans. Looking at main boards doesn’t typically interest me but seeing that removable BluOS card and power supply less cluttered gives me confidence that Lenbrook is investing in BluOS from Hardware and Software fronts appropriately.
Glad you enjoyed it
As I understand only downside for some people can be Node's internal DAC, but I guess it can be completly bypassed when connected to another external or integrated amplifier DAC via digital connection (Optical or Coax) am I right?
I don't know the Schiit, so I can't say. You do loose MQA when using the Schiit.
@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel Thanks for the info.
I would love to see an updated plugin module for the NAD M32. I am still thinking about getting a bluos module.
What should be updated?
Very cool product! I'm interested in using this spdif bypassing the internal dac then running it through my holo spring kte dac. I wonder if apple's new high res streaming service will work with this no problems.
My question also. I want a nice quality Airplay receiver to output via the optical into an external DAC. Though I am only interested in the CD quality lossless not the high res.
@@aussie8114 used Apple airport express have opt out.
@@adelkharisov I’ve read about that. I’m using an old Apple TV box which has opt out for Lossy but not sure if it will deal with lossless, it might. Otherwise I will try the Yamaha streamer which is 1/3 the cost of this one.
Great review
Thanks!
The only way is to send Apple Music from your iPhone, iPad or Music app via Airplay to the Node. Apple don't allow third parties directly.
Another great review, thanks Hans.

Hi Hans, thanks again for a great review. I saw a comment in another of your videos where you said the Node 2i's digital output is a limiting factor, when using it with the Ares2 and Pontius2. Has there been an improvement to the digital output of the new Node that removes this limiting factor? Thanks
Spdif is equal, perhaps that USB is better but was not yet functional in my review sample.
you are great man thank you very much .. God Bless
You're welcome!
Thanks for sharing
Very Helpful Hans, Thank you. I have a choice of the 2i for $440 US new or the Node 2021 for $550 new. I will be using a Denafrips Ares II as my external DAC. Will the improved power supply of the New Node be an improvement over the 2i. using an external, higher resolution DAC? Will there be any other Sonic improvements? What is your favorite Nederlandse Craft Beer? Cheers from California
Please watch the video. I don’t drink alcohol.
Finally the review of this brand new product is here.
Finally? It was just announced and not yet even in the shops!😀
NAD C658--DUH! Sorry about that.
That's highly unlikable.
Only started watching your channel recently, great content👍do you think that the bluesond node would work well with elac unifi reference bookshelf and iota pa3 monoblocks as a stereo only system?chat later

Glad you enjoyed it!
Hello Hans,
Another excellent content!
@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel Hello Hans,
Thanks a lot for your reply!
You can use Bluesound products as Roon endpoint. So you keep the Discovery as server and select the Bluesound Roon Essentials to play the music over.
I have the node 2i connected through coax to the Denafrips Terminator. I wonder if the 2021 node USB connection would have a noticable improvement ?
We don't know yet, do we.
I wrote this to Bluesound Support:
I have the Node 2i connected through the Coaxial S/PDIF to my Denafrips Terminator DAC. Should I expect a noticeable improvement with the 2021 Node USB audio signal ? Will the Node 2i USB ever be capable of digital audio signal ?
and received this:
Hello there,
Thank you for contacting the Bluesound Support Crew.
Here's what we know about the new Node(N130);
1.) The NODE (N130) features a PCM 5242 Burr-Brown DAC, which has been implemented with a differential output design in an endeavor to cancel out as much unwanted noise as possible.
4.) We have also added a proximity sensor to the new NODE
5.) Audio can be outputted via the USB 2.0 port on the new NODE
6.) We have also added an HDMI eArc port for Audio Input to the NODE
There should be an upgrade to the overall sound quality of the unit with the new and improved hardware implemented in the unit. However, we do not know the overall limitations of the USB out from the unit and we await the launch to understand the unit better.

my notes:
1.) I don't know if I would be able to hear the difference between -110dB and -113dB SNR nor 0.005% and 0.002% distortion...
2.) As you stated in your video, the 2i processor is already faster than necessary.
3.) the power supplies definitely looked different in your video, is your 2i an early version ? I haven't taken mine apart.
4.) proximity sensor; ahh, good in the dark with those extra controls but I never touch my 2i directly
5.) Potentially Great, is it going to be better than the Coaxial S/PDIF output ???
I really wouldn't know. Sorry.
Thanks a lot for the review. I am planning to use the HDMI-earc to improve the sound quality coming from my TV, considering a good external DAC is already there. Would this be a good plan? Or maybe I should just buy some HDMI-audio extractor? The latter is way cheaper.
I don't know the quality of the HDMI audio extractor so I can't say.
good day Hans,
first thank you for your Chanel and your reviews. this is not about this topic. Do you have the sotm switch with or without the internal clock?
second I got the Eno system and I have to say it makes a difference!!!! the music becomes more analogically et more open thanks
Patrick
I use the standard SOtM switch, no external clock.
@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel and internal?
well Hans got the SoMT switch and wow!!!!! thanks for the review so now got like you from Router to streamer. Once the burn in period elapse I will switch the Eno system from being between the SoMt switch and streamer to between nether switch and some switch to see if it makes a difference
....
Add the ability to handle my two-channel 24 bit/48kHz or 96kHz library to the handling all my DTS 5.1 music and nothing beats Bluesound while being usable for the entire family and not just the techies.
thanks for sharing
Please watch Q&A: Which device is better?: ruclips.net/video/BzLmC4n2DX4/видео.html
Great video with lots of useful information. I am very excited to see that there now is a possibility to connect the Node via USB to a DAC. That alone is enough reason for me to upgrade.
🙏🏻
Don't want to burst your bubble... but it looks like the USB port is for external storage?
@@1337sim1 Oh man, really? Couldn't find anything on the Bluesound website either. Too bad, I would have really liked that.
@@YuriBrus I don't know... Maybe Hans was told it was coming with a future firmware update? I'm not quite sure 😋
@@1337sim1 yeah, it's still not available here in CH, so I'll just wait and see.
I can't do buying advise. If I would start doing that, I wouldn't have time to make videos anymore.
Hi Hans, good review, thanks. Did I understand correctly that Spotify will not be played gapless?
I don't know. I have subscriptions on Tidal and Qobuz, not on Spotify
@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel Thank you for the reply. I will give that try!
Usb out? That’s very interesting if it will function as a transport with usb. Will wait to see the implementation and what sample rates can be transmitted through usb.
Sample rate will be limited to 192 kHz.
@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel thanks. That’s a missed opportunity.
Can HDMI used as digital transport from TV to Bluesound and then coax to separate DAC? Probably it's better quality than Toslink
I have no idea.
I will try!
The arcam st60 is amazing much nicer than this but well worth extra money
Thanks for the video, very useful and clear ! I was wondering if it is possible to connect the bluesound to an amplifier through the optic cable? Or the mini jack? My amplifier does not have more than 2x2 rca input that are used by the speakers(it’s an smslad18). Thanks in advance !
Yes you can.
Often if the same money was spent on a dedicated digital out only device, you would end up with a better sound.
Hello Hans, this is a answer I cannot follow and this is not true compared with the bluesound N130 with for example the very important Hdmi eARC for home theater use: there is not such a device to my knowledge with the same sound quality etc etc. 'on a dedicated digital out only device.'
Do you know a good or better sounding high end kind of level which does all this?
Let alone affordable? ( €500-€3000?)
Even the Lumin U1 mini is not doing this, and to my experience the connection to my LG Oled with good quality toslink optical wiring ( QED Reference Optical Quartz) is of a far less Quality than with the Hdmi eArc connected with good quality Audioquest hdmi cables.
Feature wise you might be right, sound quality wise I think I am closer to the truth.
Hallo Hans,
Sorry.
I have no hands on experience with the products you mention so I can't say.
I have not reviewed the Powenode nor do I have hands-on experience with the Q acoustics speakers so I can't say
With this recent release of 2021 Bluesound node, would it be a better musical streamer than the Yamaha wxc 50?
Of course, even the 2i was (for me anyway)
Thank you for this interesting review.
Can you telle if it is possible to adjust the TV volume directly with the TV remote control if the node is connected to eARC? I don't want to use the amp remote or my smartphone if I'm watching TV... Thanks
I haven't tried so I can't say. Sorry.
This is what i need to know as well. Do you happen to get the answer?
HI Hans, Thank you for the videos , I would have one question about my setup: I just bought the 2021 Node, as all sources (TV) are connected to the Node would it be better to connect it directly to the Rotel power amp RB-1070, skipping the pre amp Rotel RC-1070? Thank you , Cristian
I would prefer to connect my sources directly to the amp.
Hello Hans, thank you for yet another thorough in depth review, I have a question for you to help me reach audioNirvana:
I have my system and especially my streamer (old Node 2i which I'll be upgrading to this new model) far from my internet modem, two floors upstairs. I wonder which internet connection option would sound better and have less jitter for this device in particular:
1. A Wifi mesh with direct wifi connection to the Node 2i
2. A Wifi router upstairs to convert the signal from the wifi mesh into Ethernet and then to the node 2i
3. A couple of fibre-optic media converters, from my modem downstairs and then into Ethernet to the node 2i upstairs via optical fiber cable of course
Thanks for any guidance
Fibre will not make much of a difference on this level of equipment. Don't get me wrong, the Node is great but to have fibre make a difference you need to look at a network player of at least triple the price. Just use the wifi mesh. That probably will do a great job (depending on the number of other wifi base stations in your direct surroundings.
Very thorough very neutral very informative, thank you
You're very welcome!
Goor idea (but that's not up to me😟)
Hi Hans, I have a headphone only setup based around a Chord Mojo / Poly which is limited by how much of my music I can fit on the SD card.
@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel Thank you for responding so quickly. Looking forward to the next video.
