Here's the deal: She always lipsynchs the high notes at 2:37. Sometimes the backing track that is supposed to kick in is too low, but this time, it didn't kick in AT ALL. So she didn't lose her voice. It was just a technical malfunction.

2:38 is like me in my room listening to this song on my iPod and "singing", dramatic hand gestures and all LOL

Those are two of the instances that I've found on RUclips where she lip syncs. There are definitely more, however there aren't that many videos of those moments on RUclips unfortunately. She has said she has up and down days. This was clearly a bad one. I saw her in central park for GMA and in the warmups before they started filming she sounded great but they dubbed her on TV anyway. I love that she can't bring herself to look at the audience when she can't hit the note at 2:38 so she just stares up for the rest of the song

Why does people like to be negative and say hateful remarks? Mariah doesnt need to prove herself. Her songs are loved and listened by many generations. Cant people notice her songs are so hard to sing. And thats her specialty among the rest :-) Thank God for MC.

I agree that Toni is ultimate Diva because the point is no matter who has a higher register Toni is true to her vocal range and skill set and has always been consisten. Her voice is hers. In studio and out is why she can sing live and hit all the same notes the same way we hear it on the radio. Maria can no longet do tbat. So weather Mari . I am a Mariah fan ever since. But some people need to understand that this video is raw - the original. What the today's show aired has the dubbed version of the high notes of the song. Are you not wondering why she sang the high notes "effortlessly" but struggled with the low notes?

This is unremoved part that the editor failed to remove. First of all it doesn't make sense. Furthermore there are some evidents that proves this is edited.

I'm not going to try to defend Mariah here for lip singing on her high notes. I know that she's been doing that for so long, so now I'm kind of 'immunized'. What I would like to point out here though, is that it was the crews' own fault that the AR didn't come out at that moment. This happened in 2008 too, when Mariah appeared on Good Morning America and performed 'Touch My Body'. The AR didn't come out at the right moment, so she had to sing over her own pre-recorded voice, which was undeniably humiliating for a professional singer with more than 20 years of career. The crews needed to step up and try to make a nice experience for both crowds and of course, a singer.
BTW, it's possible that Mariah didn't know the AR wasn't coming out. When singers sing on the stage, they almost always wear ear monitors. Probably the AR was going off on her ear monitor. It just didn't come out from the speakers at the stage. If she'd known, she would've sung the part somehow. Not the same way she did on her daydream album, but somehow.
We all know this is the real version. The other one is dubbed... SO SAD.
