The anime this is from is Oshi No Ko (My Star). The first episode is about 40+ minutes long, but is one of my favorite Pilot episodes of all time. Would definitely recommend.

Yoasobi is known for writing very upbeat and happy sounding songs, but when you read the lyrics, you realize it's kind of dark. It's the charm of Yoasobi

The reason why this music video has so many views is that many people are deeply shocked and moved when they see this music video after watching the first episode of the anime "Oshi no ko". If you watch this music video after watching the first episode, you will understand why the music is structured this way, why the visuals are designed this way, and why the lyrics are the way they are. You will be shocked and moved and have a completely different reaction. We are looking forward to the upload of a comparison video showing your reactions before and after watching the anime. The incredible aspect of this seemingly unnatural English translation is that it not only aligns with the sounds of the Japanese language but also with the meaning of the story. Furthermore, after listening to the Japanese version several times, when you listen to the English version, there are parts where it sounds like Japanese despite being in English. This part of the lyrics sounds Japanese for some reason. "That emotion melts" "Completely deny"

Actually this song is a criticism towards the Japanese entertainment industry especially the two-faced idol industry. The song is written from different point of views:
    - the media and fans
    - the other group members of a fictional idol group
    - the own pov of the idol herself.

Oshi no Ko is Anime of the Year. There's no doubt in my mind kk 😁😁

It's amazing. It's the kind of show you remember for a lifetime.

This version sounds very similar to the original Japanese version. And yes, both are performed by the same duo (YOASOBI).
You'll appreciate it even more once you've watched Oshi no Ko, especially its 80 minute pilot episode. Also, the saddest part of this song is its last line.

Hola, Millie!!
Si no viste Oshi no ko, recomendadisimo. De los mejores animes de esta temporada que retrata el lado B de la industria del entretenimiento en Asia.
Que tengas un lindo dia, saludos desde Argentina.🤗😊

The anime is attempting to show viewers the dark secrets of the Idol Life in Japan, perhaps just in general, even, as more and more countries around the world have started adopting the School Idol type of concept. It shows what kind of struggles Idols have to go through and face in life, not just from their strict schedules and expectations from the studios, but also from their fans and haters equally. How they constantly have to fake cheerful happiness on stage and during meet-ups if that's how you started out your career, as fans will have started expecting that from you going forward, the same goes for Idols with other personalities where those personalities are expected to always be the same throughout their career. And then the more sinister aspect that comes with the fame and reputation, that being stalkers and people obsessed with idol, the death threats directed at the idol or their friends, family, or loved ones, and how some fans might go as far as to actually go through with their threats on the idol's lives. How idols are expected to never have relationships, let alone have sex with anyone, as that will ruin the view that the fans have of the idol, opening up to a lot of hateful comments from those who in their delusional mind think the idol is their girlfriend, or just from those jealous of not having gotten the idol themselves, etc.
The anime is pretty deep, and even used a real life scenario for one of the characters in a dating show in the anime, and it's all pretty shocking, especially if you had no previous idea of how idol life was like.

The anime is "Oshi No Ko", first episode is feature length and this OP track covers the story of that 'episode'. Highly recommend watching it: you obviously picked up a lot of the themes but hopefully not enough to spoil the experience... In general the series is set against the backdrop of the entertainment industry, from social media to scouting agencies, and it does not shy away from highlighting the harsh reality behind the fake smiles; but it never feels like it's being 'dark' for the sake of effect.
Once you've seen the first episode this OP's lyrics will hit a lot harder.
It is considered to be a strong contender for anime of the year by many, and I can't say I disagree.

If you like the upbeat music + dark lyrics, you should look more into vocaloid songs in general. An example is 'whatever whatever whatever' by Neru; they get a lot of covers in general (particularly by vtubers which you should also look into) as well if ur not a fan of the Hatsune Miko voice
