I think Mic Check is a true hidden gem on the Adobe Podcast site. It told me that my gain was way too high even though I thought it was really low. Changed all the settings to make Mic Check happy and I got to say my audio in my current project is far better than anything I've had so far.
The text-based editing is just mindblowing! I can imagine the time saved editing long interviews. I hope Adobe will roll out auto-captioning support for other languages.
Holy crap - the text based editing is going to be a game changer. Being able to visually see and delete all the "um"s and "you know"s is going to be a huge time saver for all the talking head videos I do. As usual... thank you for another excellent video Kelsey!
Back when I was learning this stuff in the late 90's some old school documentary people were trying to teach me about 'paper edits' - literally printing out a transcription of your interviews, actually cutting and pasting your selected quotes, arranging these paper slivers, then using timecode to match the paper back to the footage. I see the benefit of cleaning up ums and ahhs, but what I'm excited about is (eventually, I hope) taking those transcriptions Premiere generates and dragging my favorite quotes to another window (from several different interviews), rearranging them into a flow that makes sense, and having the software pulling and organizing the associated video clips automatically. That would be an incredibly fast way to build a spine for a doc, or a first assembly for narrative work.
The only problem I see with these tools is privacy: what happens to the media that I upload to have it enhanced? Who has access to it? What else might they use those files for? Training the AI for better results comes to mind, but then what happens to your personal/corporate files? Can I limit which files they can use for enhanced training? This is amazing technology and I want to use it. I can see so many security challenges with its use for internal corporate projects that include trade secrets. (Example: internal training videos.)
There’s also the matter of “where” the data is stored on Adobe’s servers. Files in the US vs. EU vs. GB vs. other locations will have different privacy profiles and laws that they are subject to. An example might be covering LGBTQ+ topics and the government of an intolerant country demanding that it not be allowed.
I came back to this video just to say how much I liked the AI podcast beta feature. It just saved one of my videos I put in a lot to film and the audio was unusable. It wasn’t a podcast but ice climbing with blown out audio and crampons crunching the ice. Sounds so good now. Thanks for pointing this out
13:28 it's baffled me that these track selection options have never been available in Premiere Pro. Coming from Avid, this was one of those head scratchers. So essential as a time saver. Integral to my workflow. Thank you for highlighting.
Wow, that mask tool/rotation thing has been a bane of my existence for years now!! I use that tool every single day and it always drives me nuts! I'm so happy they updated that tool!
I like both platforms meaning FCPX and PP but one thing I noticed in these videos. You don't have to do all of that in FCPX. So much better and easier.
They can add thousands of new features every iteration of updates, it won't mean a thing if the app crashes and hangs constantly and takes forever to do a simple render. I was getting insane...so I moved over to Davinci Resolve and haven't looked back. The pace of innovation at BD is nothing short of amazing.
You're amazing Kelsey. Happy Extended Internation Women's Day! You're revolutionizing learning. Thanks so much for helping this old dog learn new cool stuff. :)
I've been using Since it was CS, more than 15 years, I have now switched full time to Da Vinci Resolve and I'm kicking my self for not doing it earlier. No more Premiere and no more Adobe. Times change.
They should really put a "voice search" in the program. For exemple in the effects pannel, there should be a mic icon near the search bar. You want lumetri color, you click the mic icon then say "lumetri color". Then the effect pops of as usual. Or a programmable keyboard shortcut to voice search an effect. That would be so much faster and easier to search an effect.
WOW! Thank you for taking the time to not only explore the update, but also the beta apps, the upcoming Adobe Podcast, and then make a video about it all! This deep dive is awesome!
I sub'd yrs ago to you and although I switched a couple montths ago after 17yrs of using premiere to now to Davinci Resolve I will continue to stay sub'd to you because of the value you bring to editing tips. These premiere updates did confirm I made the right choice moving to resolve though. DaVinci Resolve is way a head of Premiere in work flow, Masking, Audio and processing power. Don't worry....you don't have to change your branding that much on your channel. Just change it to "Gal" ;) The water is nice and warm over here.
Not really the updates I was looking for, but I still appreciate you making a great video going through everything. I was hoping they had updated lumetri colour a little to have it better compete with some of the capabilities of Davinci Resolve. It's the one thing about Premiere that has me think about leaving it at times. Simple things like the glow effect.
I have a documentary I’ve been working on for a year, and making final changes this week. There’s one group interview shot where one of the clips from a two camera shoot was corrupt, and it was the one with the mic’d audio I needed. The audio from the other camera is super-echoey, with different levels and reverbs for each person depending on how far from the mic they were. It was killing me that I had to use it. But today… I upload it to the audio enhance page, and it’s now PERFECT audio. Just stunned. BUT…. it’s not just enhancing it with filters. In some cases it’s replacing the audio with AI generated versions. There was one word that was too echoey and garbled to make out, and the page tried to guess what was being said, and it’s not quite right. It’s a single word, and it sounds better than the garble, but you can definitely tell it’s not same word as the lips are forming.
@3:13 For the time being, you can set the default transition in preferences to your desired transition like Text Animator in this case and adjust the default duration too if necessary > Then press A and then shift+click on graphic text layer for track select all the graphic texts > Then press CTRL+D and it will put the transitions to all the graphic texts. I found it quicker than selecting each graphic texts. Then you can mix up certain transitions by selecting 'Surprise Me!' from the effect panel.
Thanks for the update. Your tutorials are so amazing and interesting Premiere Gal. I have a question, I bought the program but there are many errors like the program freezes or crashes, can I solve this problem? By the way, I am from Uzbekistan.
What would really help workflow with new text-based editing is to spit out the transcript, send to the producer, where they either delete copy or highlight-send it back and Premiere goes to those highlights and one click delete-while making those edits jive with the transcript window!
Nice! Really like the "Text Based Editing" (12:51) that's coming! I'm always cleaning up my audio recordings. Loving all this new AI coming out....thx!
Woah! I've used Descript and thought it was brilliant but then Premiere did transcription and now with the editing tool that's a real game changer for me. It would be unbelievably helpful!
There should be a shortcut to use only video or only audio into the timeline. I make Minecraft parkour videos and I don't need the game's audio, so I have to: 1. Import the file 2. Double-click to open the Source window 3. Hold the "Video" icon and drag onto the timeline Like those shortcuts using period or comma for a simple input-and-place, please do one for audio or video only!
If I’m understanding you correctly you can deselect A1 to the left of the timeline then click and drag your clips (or use the shortcuts premiere gal went over )onto the sequence and this will move just the video.
Thanks for the update. Some things will make my editing life easier, especially for voiceovers, for sure. Love Epidemic Sound too, and the same genres as you :D
you earned a subscribe with how informative, interesting and funny the video was. You managed to incorporate your humour whilst still being professional and making everything understandable
I feel premiere make changes very slow. We have new technologies now. The mask update we need is automatic object selection, no more zooming. Photoshop has this tool, why premiere don't? I really want that premiere updates to a real 2023, the AI year. I'm sure Davinci is more aware of this.
So instead making the masking tool more like After Effects, were you can simply drag the image with your middle mouse and then just fix the rotation icon (or any) , they just put more zoom witch means i now have to get my mouse to drag two separate bars (carefully cause they become small) in order to keep going with my mask... I use a triple screen set up so maybe i will be fine with that but imagine editing on a laptop and you need to make a detailed mask and you have to zoom to 1600 and drag the bars up and down slowly... Adobe just never delivers, its ok to copy from Resolve
What! I leave editing for two days, work on an OB, return and the Adobe World has changed dramatically...again! Great and very useful updates from Adobe particularly the Beta sound, which I am pretty sure I will have to use tomorrow on some material I am being sent. Great work again Kelsey, doing a better job than adobe in promoting their updates.
Thanks for the great update - I do love the work Adobe have done on captioning over the past year or so - it's a real time-saver when you're a solo operation. If I had one wish for the future, and it's a big wish, it would be for Premiere and After Effects to work together in one workspace and project - imagine being able to Roto Brush in Premiere directly without having to do the full round-trip and rendering. Plus drop in all the brilliant effects AE now has to your work. I don't know if AE and Premiere are built on two entirely different types of engine, but for me, Premiere After Effects 2024 would be amazing. Can you have a word? 🙂
I hesitate to get too excited about text-based editing because aspects of it remind me of Adobe Story, which seemed like such an exciting game changer at the time, only to be discontinued pretty shortly after without ever having the official implementation the hype had suggested.
Ok instead of me guessing let me ask. If i was just starting and wanted to learn TikTok, RUclips, facebook size videos of streaming games and podcast where would i start in your videos to go from there to here? A marathon playlist
This is absolutely great. Could you please make a playlist for all the updates that have been released for Premiere Pro 23 after Oct22? Also if you could make similar videos for After Effects it will be even more helpful. Thank you for all the hard work
Thanks for letting us know the updates. The envato discount does not seem working, as there is a message that says 'offer no longer available'. Is the offer period over?
okay... a video like this adds lots of value to a workflow like ours here at Eureka Films, with every new update there are new bugs too, perhaps would be nice know what bugs are in the the updates in these videos too, as many people don't upgrade because of new bugs
I like the masking update. Also, I learn a new way how to change the colour via hue vs hue. Thank you, Gal. It's an excellent explanation in this video. From Malaysia
If adobe cared about us, they'd give the option to paste where the mouse cursor is. Of course, they need to start charging less too. Resolve is looking pretty good these days, even though i still kinda hate it.
Thank you for the update. At some point adobe changed the keyboard mapping in premiere pro. When copying, the element was always copied to the source track and not to the destination track. I thought I was crazy but it was adobe.
Question! Does Premier Pro auto-generate a transcript from your audio, or do you have to type yourself? I need a quicker way to add captions to RUclips shorts, than scrolling through the timeline and typing it. Thanks in advanced!
Do you have a class that is meant for intermediate users? I have been using premiere for awhile but am unaware of these shortcuts and certain features. Would love to actually have everything explained clearly and in a concise video (or video series).
Does version 23.1 have the Ripple delete with the Q button fixed? Adobe "fixed" the single frame deletion with multiple presses of the Q button when you were at the start of a clip. Seein you struggle with masking in premiere you cant even move picture while zoomed in, you need to use scroll bars, with is so ridicolous. Thats what after effects is for, and dynamic link, for advanced masking. Premiere masking i think was ment to be just there for some simple masks.
