    This is a really tough issue, and it seems like a cruel system. My son is a high school sophomore in southern California, and by the end of the 2022-2023 school years he will have 2 AP and 1 Honors class completed. He has received all A's and through semester 1 of 10th grade he has a cumulative weighted GPA of 4.22 and is currently ranked #13 out of 604 students. The problem as I see it with him loading up on so many AP classes is that he is a 2 sport athlete. He runs cross country in the fall, and in the spring he is on the school baseball team. Baseball practice during the week his freshman years was nearly 3 hours every day, or they had a game. He didn't get home until around 7pm. By the time he finished dinner and decompressed it was nearly 8pm. And then all the homework. I want him to take more AP classes, as I am hoping he at least gets into a top ranked public school. But with his sports take up so much time! Anyone else deal with this issue?

      That's so hard! I've had a lot of students with this issue in the past, and it's easy to let academic start to slip. There's so much pressure to "do it all" to get into the best schools. I actually have an upcoming video on how to balance sports and APs. Thanks so much for watching!

      A 4.2 and ranked #13??? Maybe I should move there😂. That is a seriously uncompetitive school😂. I got a 4.2 and ranked 140 something. There’s people in my school who have 5.0s!

    Hey, so I am a Sophomore now, and I chose AP psychology as my first AP. I was later found out it was full since upperclsssmen had priority. I tried getting in AP human Geography, but that was also at the capacity. My school doesn’t really have a lot of staff for the abundant number of kids at the school. (680 to be exact) so I am stuck with no AP this sophomore year and I couldn’t freshman year, so I am trying to make up that one AP I can’t with all honors classes, and challenging myself he most I can do. I hope I can do two AP junior year next year and three senior year. Is it bad that I literally can’t do an AP this sophomore year because of the number of students enrolling in the same AP? Like I can’t obviously choose certain AP that I want to since they have a prerequisite for them. I hope I can get in UNC, Duke, or WashU. Last year freshman year I had a 4.3 weighted, and a 4.0 unweighted. I calculated that if this year I get all As which I will work for, I’ll get a 4.5 weighted and 4.0 unweighted or so. Any advice or thoughts to my bad situation?
    Thanks.
    PS my brother got in the AP classes that he chose, but not me. I am just unlucky… 😢

      That's really frustrating, especially since you wanted to enroll and couldn't at your school. There's always the option to self-study for an AP Test (though this can be very challenging: ruclips.net/video/CTFCXcRNu6A/видео.html). I would talk to your college counselors about things you can do this year to shine outside of the classroom. Remember, applying for colleges isn't all about academics, and if you have interesting or unique experiences to share in your essays this can really give you a competitive edge! Best of luck.

      @@LassetersLab I appreciate this so much! I know it’s not the end of the world because I can’t take an AP this year, but I still have Junior and Senior year! I am going to work as an assistant (no pay) for my neighbor who is a professor at Duke and owns his lab, and I can volunteer there. Plus, I do fencing and golf which can get me a scholarship. Also, this year as a sophomore, I can at least focus more on my tutoring for the PSAT, which can get me some scholarship as a ethnicity thing since my parents are both from Argentina, only if I do well in it. I hope I can still get in my dream schools; UNC, Duke, WashU, and others I might dream about going in the future. I would say I am well rounded since my parents are both medical physicians. Do you think I still have what it takes? I am planning to take two AP next year and 3-4 the following year as a senior. I’m trying to take as many science AP classes, since I want to pursue my dream of pre med, but that’s still a few years away.

    Hi I need an advice from you between ib system and ap classes .
    According to your video , it seems ap classes are good but what about the skills and knowledge that student has to acquire to preparing for collage?
    Ap is good for shortcut of your major journey in some classes but there are skills as searching writing essays. In my opinion, ib is good 👍 in this side. What do you think ?

    Can a student choose to take a makeup exam on a different date so that they are not sitting back to back for exams? I see that my daughter will be in this predicament senior year.

      I know nothing about AP Music Theory, but a lot of it depends on the teachers. Ask around what others have thoughts of those classes at your school.

      I did a lot of research on APs and I’ve heard those both are some of the easier APs so take your time, study, ask help when you need it, go back to older units to refresh, and most importantly have a good school and social life while maintaining your stress levels. Goodluck you got this

    I like the video. Thanks for that. But I do have a question. What if the school chose the classes for you and mistakenly gave you six classes and you can't drop out of it? They did that to me and now I'm not getting enough sleep to study😅. And it's super hard to focus on my math when I can't even keep my eyes open. 😂 ❤️

    Hey I’m doing AP classes for the first time next school year and I’m going to be a Junior. I decided to take 2 AP classes, AP Psychology and AP lang, will this be overwhelming and hard or will I be able to manage?

    • @gd_fallen2986
      @gd_fallen2986 Год назад +1

      Currently in both + 3 others in Junior year, I really believe that AP Psych is extremely light on homework & the content is 5/10 difficulty. AP Lang is on the lighter side when it comes to homework, but it's an 8/10 in difficulty. 100% doable, I'd say for every club you're in take 1 less AP and every sport takes 2 less AP classes.
