  • Brenna Blain shares her story about the unique challenges of being a same sex attracted woman of faith. She tells us about her testimony of following Jesus, what led her to embrace an orthodox view of sexuality and faith, the important role that sensitive/empathetic youth ministry can play in a SSA child's life, and answers questions like "are all Christians called to be straight?" It's a nuanced conversation and we hope it helps you in your walk with Jesus and your pursuit of growing in understanding about this extremely important topic.

Great hearing Brenna’s testimony and enjoyed her very calm and well thought delivery. I’m on this journey as well and positive reinforcement of my decision to let Jesus be the man in my life is most welcome.

This was an interesting perspective to hear from. Initially, I thought that how could you just suppress a huge part of who you are for your faith? That seemed like such a hard life decision to make. But the more I listened, It is your choose to make no matter what either side says, as long as you are happy. I know that must be a hard place to be people from the lgbtq side telling you your wrong and also people of faith disagreeing with you. I applaud you for making the best decision for yourself despite what others may think.

Hi Molly this is Aaron, one of the show hosts. Thanks so much for your comment, and thanks for sticking through and listening to the show even if you didn’t fully agree. From a Christian perspective I can tell you one of the most challenging aspects of the faith is what Jesus calls “dying to yourself,” the idea of being willing to give up desires you have that don’t line up with God’s heart and best intentions for your life. Every Christian faces this in different ways, but man, lgbt Christians who believe the historic Christian sex ethic have to make quite a big sacrifice! Too often the church has looked down on them for merely having the attraction that they do, when they forgot that everyone struggles with temptation. I’m glad for voices like Brenna’s. Christians need to start recognizing the insane amount of courage found in people like her.
Another similar story is David Bennet. He was actually an lgbt activist and fierce opponent of Christianity, and the way he came to know Jesus is powerful and totally unexplainable apart from the reality of God’s spirit.
