    I bought it because I didn’t find anything that sounds like it in a positive way. Somehow after really trying to love others, final limiter of choice for me is the ds1. This is one of my desert island plugins.

    I have it. I bought the MM1, loved it. It didn't have enough control for me so I tried the DS1, loved it, bought it. Use it everyday. To me, It excels at taming frequency ranges on a mix bus. Just sounds better than anything else I've used. Incredible at taming a harsh mix or controlling a low mid heavy mix without losing energy. There's not many (well known) plugins i haven't tried and this just sounded better. I'm happy to pay for that. (I did wait for a sale tho:)

    I have both of the ones you didn't mention, the Weiss Deess and the Weiss Compressor/Limiter. (The latter is exactly what you were saying you would have liked to see from the GUI) Still the same coding and are basically the one unit split into 2 for a fraction of the price each. I could upgrade to the full package for £92 which would add both the DS-1 and the MM-1...but I can't see any benefit to getting them besides one being a single plugin and the other being a simplified one. The other 2 are definitely worth a look and about the same price as the MM-1 in the sale.

    I can say without a doubt all of the Weiss Processing gear hardware or plugin is overpriced and the only thing worth considering is the De-esser plugin called Deess. The Weiss MP EQ cramps in the top end like its 1999, the DS-1-Mk3 is a terrible limiter and the Weiss compressor limiter sucks generally with fast attacks or fast releases. I rented the original Weiss-DS1 Hardware years ago and didn't use it again I then immediately bought the SPL 9632 Maximizer as my limiter in the dying days of analog. The Weiss was the Audiophile version of the TC electronics Finalizer but the gear snobs thought because they paid a ransom price for it that it must be good IT WASN'T and still isn't good. The only thing that is worth even considering is the Weiss Deess plugin and then you could get the Sonnox super-esser or Waves Sibilance for the same results! Cheers!

  • @IamSavoiiMusic
    @IamSavoiiMusic Месяц назад

    I bought the MM-1 today for $69. Then there is an upgrade path for DS1-MK3 (if you own the MM-1 already) for $185. For that $185 in addition to the DS1-MK3 you also get Weiss Dees and the Weiss Compressor Limiter. So anyway, I'm not sure when you filmed this, but I think, all in all, for what they are, that's fair pricing. I'm super happy with the MM-1 right off the bat already, especially for $69. I'll sit on that and think about whether I want to upgrade. But, eventually, I think I might. Spending $185 to get ALL of that Weiss tech that would have cost like $10k is absolutely ridiculous. Bottom line, the MM-1 sounds and works great. I really like it.

    Hate to admit it, I do have it, but I think I bought a few of the other Weiss plugs and as sales went on I got offered it for a lot less. Plus I was drunk when I bought it 💩. It is very cool sounding but it really is not worth it. The Tokyo Dawn Labs KOTELNIKOV if thats the correct spelling is based on the Weiss and is free. You can buy the whole of Ozone 11 advanced for less and have a substantially better set of mastering tools. Nothing sounds exactly the same but who listening to a song will even give a shit at the end of it. A regretful purchase for me, but from time to time I do get it out and whip it on to to justify a stupid purchase decision, and I might even load up the Weiss.

    I think the idea is that it is the same code as the hardware and they have to pay Weiss a big part of it.
    Since Weiss is digital it is all about the code and I guess they see that as a bargain compared to their hardware for people who want to use their own computer instead of a hardware unit. More important reason i think Softube wants to give the impression of uniqueness and exclusivity, that you have to be a real PRO to get it and that's the price of admission to the pro club

      As a pro mastering engineer I don’t approve of what is basically price fixing… it’s code…zeroes and ones…they could sell it for less and still make a profit. In 20 years the hardware will still probably work….the plugin will very likely be useless.

    I bought it during a big sale - I feel your criticism of the price is unfair. This isn’t an emulation that sounds 90% like an expensive, famous piece of audio hardware. It is an exact 1:1 copy.
    As mentioned, I did get it during a major sale, and I’ve never run across a limiter or maximizer as smooth and transparent, and as LOUD as the Weiss products. Softube generously lets you try out the product for 14 days before purchasing.
    It is pricy but it’s reasonable since it’s an exact copy of a very expensive piece of hardware. Wait for a deal, but Weiss is my favourite by far to get a master loud.

    • @StudioLife101
      @StudioLife101  2 месяца назад

      Glad you love it… it is good if you can get it in a sale. But it is software and at full price it is way too expensive! Just don’t expect it to hold value like the investment in hardware can. In 10 years you can sell the hardware but the plugin will probably be worth nothing…💁

      @@StudioLife101 I could never afford the hardware version - it’s over $10,000 dollars I believe. I was just watching a mix with the masters where a pro was saying you don’t need new plugins - many old plugins still have value. I hope Weiss will be the same!
      Thanks for your reply and your honest reviews! Thought provoking!

  • @scuzz4321

    It’s a line-by-line code port of the hardware unit that costs £10k, so contextually it’s not a bad price at all. If you were maybe a mastering engineer who was just starting out and looking to get paid for those services, it would probably pay to skip the part where you buy 10 or so bang-average software compressors & limiters through trial and error (we’ve all been there, right?!), and just get this.

    • @StudioLife101
      @StudioLife101  3 месяца назад

      Yeah…but hardware retains value and still functions (hopefully) for decades….this will cease to have value in a few short years…

    • @scuzz4321
      @scuzz4321 3 месяца назад +1

      For sure. But think about the example I gave - it’s a low risk way of adding a top-class mastering processor to your toolkit. You’d get a return on your investment after a few paid jobs. You wouldn’t have to fork out the price of a small car for the hardware. And there would be no tangible benefit to having the hardware other than maybe its shelf-life, since this is a 1:1, line-by-line code port of the hardware so shouldn’t in theory perform any differently. I think this is a really interesting and unique plugin, but for quite a small demographic of customers, which consequently is why the majority of people think the price point is ridiculous.

      Your words "Smoothest compression and Linear phase crossover bands I’ve ever heard“ the part „i`ve ever heard“ can be either a euphemism, showing how much you like it or a Hyperbole.
      So i interpreted it as a claim that it does something „amazing" and as contrast i suggested two plugins and now Powair by Soundradix comes to mind that are alll at least in the same ballpark and there are more than these plugins out there probably. Ah! Also Amek Comrpessor is at the same level. I see many people talking about the weiss series as if time stood still since they came out which is a bit like saying that a supercar of the 90`s was the "best and realest“ and never surpassed. Its a philosophical question at times.
      If somebody would tell me today that the weiss would give them an advantage that is irreplaceable in order to achieve a stellar mix or master and after having tried them i would say i strongly disagree and that the price is ridiculous.

    Acustica Coral
    Fabfilter pro C
    Amek mastering compressor
    A few outboard compressors
    Teggler crème
    Wes Audio NG bus
    Manley variable mu
    I can tell you I’m always looking to hate this plug in and kick it off my mixes because of its price!
    But when AB-ing with the same setting or even setting that favor the other compressors
    There is NOT ONE OF them that can keep the clean clear and open nature of your mix while bringing it together tightening and the over used term glue so effortlessly
    And the only one that is software that can compress -6db and still sound pristine
    I sometimes feel this compressors sounds as 3d as my outboard gear but really it’s compressors so clean and keeping things so clear that I’m just being duped by the clarity.
    Once you really understand all the features of the plug in it really is hard to beat
    And I’ve come to the conclusion recently that it’s really worth the price considering you get a baby version of it, the mastering maximizer, and the deesser
    3 plug ins that can easily go for 2-300 together and I use all of them all the time (the deesser is definitely the best deesser out there)
    The only people thinking it’s over priced is people who haven’t extensively used it
    It beats my hardware or equals them on many occasions or I’m just using in conjunction with them.
