Kindergarten Morning Routine

  • I designed my morning routine to obtain their attention early, which makes it easier to keep their attention throughout the rest of the day. I also use this time to ingrain the class rules, exercise their linguistic skills, and implement a leadership training exercise (build their confidence).

This routine is outstanding. In five minutes the teacher was able to: use Behavioral, Social Constructive, and Developmental theories. In addition, got the student's to set their goals for the day with enthusiasm, confidence, and overall FUN.

if all teachers are as energetic as he is then all students are active in class participation. What a great motivator the teacher is. 10 thumbs up!

I kinda want to cry, I watched this years ago, when I began teaching in Mexico, it inspired me so much and it gave me so many ideas that I developed further for each of my 7 different classes. But specially the "English school, English class, English speaking", all of my kids loved it, ALL of them. And I haven't being able to teach again for quite some time now, and I miss that...so much :'(

Love, love, love this routine. What is he getting paid to do? Let the kids have fun and speak english. Mission accomplished. Brilliant warm-up. He covers more ground in 5 minutes, then many ESL teachers do in a whole period! One of the best examples for ESL teachers on youtube, IMHO. Thanks for filming it Ryan.

Any routine even once a week is good. It starts the class with structure, kids love that. It makes them comfortable. Also, it builds confidence. It is something they know they can do. It is a great foundation to have a routine at this level and age class. Definitely adoptable.

I also teach English for little kids, I have a group with kids from 2 to 4 y.o. This is what we do in my school, we only talk in English with them, because they are very small and all the time they get exposure to the referred language, it's better for their learning moment. Nice video, I've got some ideas from you to do with my kids :) Thanks for sharing.

Dual language is best, but then again, they probably speak their first language outside of english class... Sometimes it's necessary to have a time/space where only the language you are learning can be spoken... otherwise you will not learn it fully and to your best capacity.

Sorry, I did not mean to sound condescending... This kind of routine would be best in kindergarten at any level. For 1st grade and on, I would recommend something more complex of course. But regardless, structure and routine of some sort help students feel comfortable and confident. It is always a good way to start the day.

Hey, I am just doing my best. My children are not parrots. I am not drilling the answers into them. There are no questions. This is just our morning routine. Along with what I already wrote under my video. My morning routine provides structure and it is something they know. It starts the day on a comfortable note. This is not at all how I teach. I teach my students all the fundamentals for individual growth. That is super important, I completely agree.

I actually have a lesson where we read the glue, understand it is "Nontoxic” and we all taste the glue. The underlining of that lesson is to take chances, try everything, and not be afraid to go outside the mold… That is why rule #4 is “Don’t eat the glue” and rule #5 is “It’s ok, you can eat the glue. These rules sound and are funny, but really they are ingraining a “Take risks, take chances" mentality.

How superb to teach children :) You need motivation, energy, and a childlike character to get their satisfaction ;)
I am an MA English Student, but one of my dreams is to be a TEYL teacher :) I have a teaching licence, but I decided to carry on the MA degree coz I ddn't find a job in the public sector..anyway when I'll graduate i'll have the opportunity to work as an English Professor at University :) though teaching children would remain a dream for me ! and one day I'll fulfill it.. hopefully :)

Dual language might be better at more mature ages or higher level classes, sure. My Korean is not bad thou, if I really need to use it, I can. If I need to explain something or a word, I can also look it up, no problem. Honestly thou, after the first month they get pretty good, surprisingly good. They are like sponges at that age, so basically the more exposure the better.
