Ah, the enigma that is the little banded piglet squid! 🦑
If ever there was a creature that belonged at Bikini Bottom, it's "Squiglet" 😁 with those false lashes, bright lipstick, and wide smile.. Spongebob would be smitten.. 🥰
Always such a treat viewing these underwater beings.. and the music is divine! 🎵🤗 Thank you, DSO

who cannot smile looking at these cute piglet squids. The head is reminiscent of a Secretary bird's, with its large eyes and its unusual crest of tentacles, whilst the body looks like a well inflated kid's balloon with a nice little knot at the end. Soo endearing. Quite different from the freakish Planctotheusis that I would hate to meet, were I able to dive that deep. Loved the story of the giant squid, what an amazing encounter. Are people starting to realise how much we can protect life in its many forms rather than hunt for trophies. We are the only animal that has escaped the 'eat or be eaten' basic law of Nature so let us show compassion and deepen our understanding. Thank you so much for showing us the animals living in the difficult to reach depth of our watery world. When you mention the rarity of a particular species, I can but marvel that they can find a mate in this immensity of darkness.

Thank you, DSO, for another stellar Squid compilation! They are beyond transfixing… Which is why it seems a shame that the Magnapinna are so misrepresented, by the very same image that’s on your merch! It’s a compelling image, to be sure, but very misleading : They don’t have a big, scary face on their mantles, they have a small, see-through head underneath ; with big black eyes at the bottom, right over their tentacles… In other words, not so scary after all! I hope that soon a more accurate image of Magnapinna will be captured, and you can merch that-along with the cute butt-bows on the Piglet Squid!
    Have a great, firecracker-free 4th, everyone!

    That Giant Squid is dying...
When octopus and squid get old, they start to lose skin and become blotchy. This is their body decomposing, it normally happens just after breeding age. Quite often the animal knows this and becomes less scared of other things, this causes them to do unusual things out of curiosity or desperation.

200 years ago a giant squid would have been dead, the moment some first harpuneer focused it. Long before a scientific scolar could have the chance for an expertise, the animal was cut into pieces and sold. The remainig beak and the eyes were the only proof of that 100 feet monster, which only a handfull of the bravest men could manage to kill.
I hope from the depth of my heart, that this time of growing respect for the beings around us, won't just be an episode in our history.

In no.4 of the very start It looks like something very large is moving behind the first video of the piglet squid. Can you possibly find out what it is. It looked like a large row of spikes 🤔
