@@superquad7 Sad to say I passed on that as well since I already have the OG Takara version and that works for me. I do have some upcoming XTB releases in my preorders, so keep an eye out for those.
I like complicated, but that was a little much. But then again, I wasn't too interested in XTB Defensor anyway. Wasn't a fan of Gravestone's trailer basicly being Menasor, and looking at Hot Spot's design so far it seems like Defensor is going the same route. I'll wait for MMCs Defensor.
I still stand by my case that XTB would have been better off retooling their Wildrider mold for this design. If they had done that, there'd be much less back kibble to pack down and the legs could work almost identically. The arms would need to be reoriented slightly, but I don't think they'd need to do such an elaborate dance around the hood.

Well then... that just made up my mind. Leave it to xtransbots to over complicate what could have been a simpler transformation. That arm/upper body sequence... come on now.
Right? "Let's make the shoulder joint a ball joint" "Oooo! And we can make it smaller than the ball joint on a legend's figure!" "Yes! And we can put a tiny locking transformation joint right next to it." "Mwaa-ha-ha!"
On their stunticon dead end the shoulder was a half connection swivel that snapped off on me and several others. Maybe the ball joint is to prevent the fatal breaks half their figures have.
This just looks incredibly hard to get in stop motion. So many clearances that make keeping L/R matched difficult and bits that swing a whole body section around so it's prone to flopping and hard to animate, and just a lot to keep track of. I love elaborate transformations and this video is just art, but when the design is elaborate at the expense of not being elegant, it's kind of a let down.
I find the TF Fandom a little Hypocritical in this regard (not you, NameForComments, in a general sense). People in the fandom love it when HasTak makes an innovative AND elegant transformation in a main line releases, yet when it comes to Masterpiece, few people have a problem with frustrating transformations like this because they're "cOleCtoR iTeMs" and not meant to be played with or something. I get that the MP market is for older audiences, but the fun of transformers is supposed to be in their ability to transform, so I think the pricier lines should try to achieve the same things the mainline does, just to a greater extent. MMC clearly has this as their goal, and it felt like it was Takara's pre MP 44.
@@maxmocs5008 No offense taken. Watching this video I remarked on how it's crazy how many people talk about getting a high-end figure and transforming it a few times only because it's either such a chore or dangerous to the figure. It's definitely a balancing act to nail a good transformation.
@@peolesdru imo xtb are much worse offenders than FT. They use thin plastic pieces to hold big chunks and it's held together by screws that can loosen and strip. At least FT will use chunkier metal pieces and be pinned together. I find the Transformers not nearly as bad or needing more clearance as XTB
@@maxmocs5008 MP44 is certainly complicated, but I really enjoy the design. It manages to do some of the mass-shifting required to hit the cartoon-accurate robot mode and there is a definite sequence that avoids any collisions, and I found the whole thing to be sturdy and solid in parts and materials.
Streetwise. A protectobot. The left leg of Defensor. I guess maybe I'll wait to see what Hotspot (firetruck and leader) looks like. So far I'm not sold.
god this looks genuinely unpleasant to transform. fantastic work and my heart goes out to you man
"So, how many steps do you want this transformation to take?"
"Yes."
Ha!
@@peolesdru I'm glad I got a laugh outta ya. :) Still, GENERATION TOY's figures don't take that long to transform!
Geez, they weren’t kidding when they said the shoulders were complicated
They would never kid about such things.
I LOVE this video! Hope you make many more!
I have no plans to continue with the XTB Defensor line. I'm committed to the MMC version. Good lord this thing was a hassle.
@@peolesdru Understandable. I'd like to see you tackle XTB Ultra Magnus. Regardless, I love your videos.

One of those videos that save lives! hehehe😜😜😜
This thing convinced me to not bother with the rest of them.
Nice video as always dude

Great job as always! What a complex transformation. You really had your work cut out for you on this one.
Always fun to try to sequence something as silly as this.

Right? It has that ad-hoc feel to it that Fans Toys suffers from.
Excelente, me encantó!!
Is that massively chipped paint on the feet?
My own fault.
a G1 figure with the transformation complexity of a Bayformer character
They could have made it so simple and yet the arms look like a bayformer.... Holy fuck
This is the figure that convinced me to just stick with MMC for Defensor.
How long does it take to film a complex process like this?
It takes about 1.5-2 hours to shoot the pictures and another 1-1.5 hours to edit them into a video.
He looks pretty over-engineered IMO. Especially the shoulders and arms. Excellent work on the video though!
The tiniest ball joint to hold the entire shoulder. TXB what are you doing???
Right?

"Oooo! And we can make it smaller than the ball joint on a legend's figure!"

I assume they plan to make a fortune replacing that part for a fee.
