Great to hear!

Wow.. It is amazing how much you can learn without ever looking up a tutorial, just gorilla learning, I started at 14 and started filming at age 8 back when you had to record over the DV tape or pause/start to do a cut in-cam editing lol and I learned a J cut etc was necessary, This video made me understand how humans who create new science and fields learned on the go, I never even thought of a simple J cut as something they teach regularly to beginners haha, So proud lol, But MAN am I MAD that I hardly incorporate an L cut... I've done it on the fly but not ever considering how necessary it is, I hardly understood the use of it, let alone THERE WAS ONE! I've done them without thinking unlike a J cut which i actively keep in mind to do. Wow, Duh! This actually helped me A LOT with more and I felt comfortable doing this for close to 15 years at 27 now. Just.. THANK YOU! I love HITFILM by the way, I ADORE IT! Godbless you guys I subbed!
I didn't know about the ripple delete gap option, that is so useful 👀
Glad we could help!
- Javert
Love this type of content, please keep doing that! :D

Its crazy how I've been using hitfilm for over a year and just learnt so much in 30 minutes from a few of these videos.. I'm still in awe at the fact I don't have to manually drag all the clips together after a lot of editing 🙃
The audio help I got will be the most beneficial as that was the one thing that was truly holding my videos back. Really appreciate it!
Great to hear!
- Javert
Thanks, everyday is a school day!
I like this! Thank you!

Good refresher and useful information for most users!
Glad you liked it!

This is super helpful, I keep having to lookup which is J which is L and this helped so much. There is such great information here thank you!!
We're glad we could help out!
- Tom
Just remember it's a "J" cut because the bottom of a "J" extends left, like the audio. An "L" extends to the right, just like the audio. So the shape of the letters is used to visualize the cut.
You'll never forget again. 👍
Great job! better than CUT! Retake it again. Use what you got and fit it together.
I like this Video! Please do more of essential stuff, for example "The essentials of cinematography"!
Good idea!

Thanks, HitFilm team, just started video editing. Want to try Montage in my future videos. Thanks Tom, you are so cute! I like you ❤
You're welcome, glad you liked the video!

I KNEWWW there had to be an easier way to L and J cut!!! I have been unlinking and relinking video from audio to do this the whole time!
Glad we could help!

What, no star wipe transition?
Ahh knew we would forget something!! Haha

Ok this is helpful 🙏
Good to hear!

Alt drag. OMG how did I not know this. Been unlinking and linking far too long.
Happy to help!
- Javert
I must point out it's in the manual. Few people read the manual, but that's where you'll find all the keyboard modifiers. For example, if you hold Alt and drag a clip from the media bin to a video track, only the video goes on the Timeline - good to know if you don't need the audio. Alt+drag to an audio track only drops the audio. Good if the clip was just to capture background noise and you don't need the visuals. 👍
Nice
Thanks for help! I'am just playing around making my first video on my channel :)

We'd love to see it!

@@FXhome I will do so! But after watching a few videos with beginners' editing mistakes, it seems that I have to start my project nearly from scratch :D.
The bright side is that practice makes perfect :).
Tom calls it a "parallel cut," and everyone else calls it a "split screen." 😉
But, yeah, different from cross cutting.
We'll presented, as always, and nicely set up for Oli to do the Like/Subscribe/Bell.
Still - no love for dissolves, wipes and other transitions to show passage of time?
Funny thing about pacing. Even back in film school my take was generally, "we're here to learn working vocabulary, play with gear and network. We've all grown up watching movies and TV and should already, more or less, have absorbed a lot of framing and pacing from watching." I still believe this.
Jump cuts: hey, I'm pushing 50, I'm old. Just noting when jump cuts were considered, generally, bad/jarring edits. The reason why, say, an interview always had shots of the questioner nodding was for cutaways to hide edits to the responder. In fact, half the time the nodding was b-roll. For a few years editors would try to smooth jump cuts with short (2-3 frame) dissolves or flash frames. It's RUclips and you darned kids that popularized jump cuts.
Then we started getting HD cameras and the jump would be smoothed with "Ye Olde Crop-zoom."
Just an observation on how editing styles changed, which segues into...
"The one-ner." Average shot length of a Hollywood film was 12-13 seconds back in the 1930's to 60's. Now it's 1-2 seconds. Tom's "one shot to let it breathe" used to be the standard. Full discussion of this is beyond a RUclips comment. Just noting the style has changed.
Montage: Montague is becoming basically motion picture only. It's going away in TV. Why? With TV shows moving towards serialization rather than episodic, stories are extended across a season. Something that used to be a montage is now an entire mid-season episode.
Again, editing evolves... But the basic edit techniques remain the same.
very useful
I have a question about HitFilm Express the Editor section can zoom horizontally is there any way to zoom vertically?
eg so can see tracks video 1 and video 7 at the same time
hope that makes sense
Cuts are the defining lines between amateur and professional
Could you please tell how to make a text cut animation. Like a text being sliced to show a dashing title intro. A simple text becomes sliced like the word CUTS in this video's thumbnail.
Ripple Delete is the best thing since sliced bread
👍👍👍
Is Camtrack AR available on the normal iPhone 12, or is it only iPhone 12 Pro and up?
You can get it all the way back to the iPhone 6 and up to the 12
@MARTIN Thank you👍
Make more videos about animation and the mostly complex editing of Star Wars !!!
can you do a video on how to crate a brooklyn nine nine style intro?
Hi, FXhome. How do you do deep fake face replacement?
We made our own attempt at it here: ruclips.net/video/5ljbTJbVsi8/видео.html
- Javert
I always called standard cuts "butt cuts"😁 for obvious reasons.
Even though I didn't comment be 4h but I wish I can get human character add-on for blender. Thanks
I really need help. I am using the MaonaCaster lite mixer. I need to be able to hear the audio track already on the dashboard so that I can do a voiceover on top of it. I have the headset plugged into the mixer along with the mic as instructed. Yet, the only sound I can hear is what I am saying into the mic and I cannot HEAR the other tracks. What gives? I have both my input and output settings to the mixer because both the headset (output) and the mic (input) are there. I just dont understand! Please help!
Another movie without any cuts is the German film, "Victoria" ;)
When should I use a composite shot and when should I use the editor tab? What's the big difference
Composite shots are meant for a single shot with multiple layers, usually for compositing purposess. The Editor tab is usually multiple composite shots put together into a sequence.
- Javert
@@FXhome Got it thank you Javert love your work
@@FXhome Way I phrase it is, "A Composite Shot is a 'virtual media clip,' so the artist can create a complex animation or composite, to treat as a single clip in another Timeline."
Javert, if that works for you, feel free to steal it. The rest of this is for the OP
The other advantage to Comps is they can be pre-rendered, or written to a lossless video file. This speeds up responsiveness in the Editor compared to having several tracks at once on the Editor. It's easier for Hitfilm to read a video clip than to calculate and render every frame.
Finally, Composite Shots can be nested/precomped/embedded in other Comp Shots. This lets you organize elements that might be reused, or set up effects in a procedural manner where changing the elements in the embedded comp ripples through the project, with all effects and animation applied. You'll see this a lot in any tutorial on titling. By placing the original text into an embedded comp all you have to do is change the text in its comp and all the effects and animation don't have to be redone. Another example is all the transitions in Zach's tutorials on this channel. Load in the transition template, change the text, add to the Export Queue and repeat. All the transition cards for a tutorial can be set up in a minute or two because the text is embedded in its own comp.
i want to know how to expand the timeline on the softawre, i seem to never find the tool to do so....
It'll automatically extend as you add more footage, but you can also click the gear icon in the bottom left of the timeline to change the duration.
- Javert
@@FXhome thanks, got it!
నైస్ వీడియో Nice video #gamerboby
I'm new to the channel & I've never heard of HitFilm. I was hoping I could have a collaboration with a fan-made Avengers 10-Chapter story I am planning to work on entitled "Avengers: Next Generation- The Temple Book 2" sequel to a fan-fic I did back in 2019 entitled "My Little Pony: Next Generation- The Temple Book". I'm trying to improve on my films. My production company is entitled "Benton Film Unlimited".
If only there was a hot key for ripple delete..(like pressing DEL?!)
Why does it take so long to export the video idk if its because its long or my computer because the video I made was 10 hours
This is a question better asked on the FXhome forum since we'd need to know your computer's specs, information about the video clips you're starting with, and info on your project setup. That would help determine what, if anything, you can do to optimize for speed.
Ultimately the power of your computer is going to determine how fast Hitfilm is. That said, even on the most powerful computer, real-time or faster exports are a rarity. 2-3 times the length of a project isn't uncommon, and for complex animations or composites long exports are the norm. I'm working on a shot now that takes 10 minutes to export a 20 second shot. I have several 3D models and particle sims happening. And that's still fast. For full 3D programs, like Blender or 3DS Max it's not unusual for a single frame to take several minutes to render.
2:07 i am
cut it to the Wizard of Oz, like everyone else
i dont think there is hitfilm on a chrome book
