Coffee bean is supposed to be simplistic in my opinion. Idc that his vocals may seem “weak” in this song, due to the fact that Travis is showing vulnerability. He seems to just be getting his thoughts out, talking about divorce, the struggles he may have about his relationship with Kylie, the fact that his rapper persona may give off negative vibes, and all in all just stating how he’s feeling. The title of the song also contributes to how he is feeling. I think of it as like he is sitting down with someone in a coffee shop and just letting his feelings fly. The layered sounds and melody of the track remind me of background music that is played in some little store or restaurant.

Houstonfornication is my fave song off astroworld… the bass line is insane. The way it interacts with that synth melody in the upper register slays me; omg. Oh Lord… it’s just beautiful. And that progression (iii-IV-ii) has my heart. He doesn’t need to do much but ride the beat. Essentially, the melodies provided by the beat, and the very active bass line make his melodies seem like countermelodies (to me). They interact so beautifully with everything else but he keeps them fairly simple. Lots of drones, and repeated phrases that add some interesting tones to the harmonic motion.
It’s just a masterpiece… ugh 🥺. And the tritone leap in that upper synth??? I think that’s what hooked me. It’s magical.. bruh. Anything that hints at lydian, has my heart (though overall I get Phrygian vibes with some lydian overtones).

To me the back half of the album was a decent 9 but the first half was maybe a high 6 so in total probably a high 7
