    When I was a teen I would have been so happy just to spend time with him. Maybe there is a horse loving young adult around you that would come out and spend some time walking and talking to him. Long shot and logistics I know but it would be heaven for both. He needs one of those clowns that you punch and they stand back up :-) He wouldn't feel so lonely maybe. You're a good human CC.

    I have a horse so much like Skeletor I bought him at six months and he is now 26 and has never changed he is always playing with something if you lay anything down he will get it and run off with it he is triple A bred and my plan was to train him on barrels but he was so boring to ride you had to tap him every step to keep him going and is always looking around at what else is going on one night I kept hearing this banging metal sound and when I got up he was calming walking around the field with a 20 ft extension ladder around his neck I had left it leaning against the barn and he had run his heat through it nothing scares him I just couldn’t make myself ride him so I use him for anyone to trail ride on him one day I was using my phone and he came up behind me grabbed it from my hand and took off I could tell a hundred stories about him a real pain but love him to death

    • @Bodiy
      @Bodiy 7 месяцев назад +4

      The ladder really scared me I went to feed and he was coming to the barn trying to trot and dragging the ladder I just knew he was going to go crazy but he was fine with me sliding the ladder up his neck and over his head if anything was going to cause him to go nuts it was me because I was hysterical🫣I can’t keep a fan he pushes the cover in and makes the blades click till it burns the motor up so I put one on the wire in the stall next to him and he pushed the wire until he had the blade clicking he has never sick or injured fortunately 😂

    I have a Skeletor named Bull... He learned how to open gates, chase squirrels, birds anything that made the mistake of getting in HIS pasture! I can't give him or Buddy any feed with sweet anything in it, sweet feed keeps me out of the pasture with them because they will try to run the other away from me so I can only touch one of them. and they don't notice how close they get to me while they do that crap. I had a total knee replacement last year and couldn't get in the lot with them because they wanted chin scratches and belly rubs at the same time. and I was using a walker! They have the horse balls and I have to hunt for them in the ditch or woods when bull kicks them out of the field. good luck with your boy!

  • @JTEllis
    @JTEllis 7 месяцев назад +24

    Skeletor is still my favorite. You made a comment about him needing a teenager. I suggest finding him one who needs the affection of a horse. It would be good for both of them. And you could parlay that into some extra help around the barn. Manure Fork 101, the first step in basic horse care.

    • @lilolmecj
      @lilolmecj 7 месяцев назад +1

      Through her teens my daughter exchanged work for riding lessons and eventually teaching basic lessons for more advanced lessons. It was a win/win and I was very proud of her iniative. It can be hard to get the right connections but can really be great for a teen who otherwise wouldn’t have the options. Where distances are large transportation to the barn can be a problem. She would drive her Daddy’s ‘64 Bug once she was sixteen. Another thing that impressed me. I don’t like driving a standard transmission, and she was the only one of our three who drives stick.

    • @JTEllis
      @JTEllis 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@lilolmecj Thank you for sharing this family story. A young person who can drive a stick shift is rare today. I learned to drive on one. After retirement, I took up trucking driving as a second career. That required a trip to a community college and training to get a Commercial Drivers License, CDL. We had a young woman in the class who could not drive a stick shift. It was tough for her to learn but she did. That was in 05. I am no longer in that industry, but I keep up with it. Big trucks these days are likely to have automatic transmissions and therefore drivers who can't drive a stick. Driving a stick shift is becoming a lost art. I hope there are enough car and truck enthusiasts to keep that skill alive.

    • @lilolmecj
      @lilolmecj 7 месяцев назад

      @@JTEllis you are welcome, she has tons of moxie! I personally find it very difficult to, but my first driving was a 2 ton truck, it was old, probably 1950s decade, helping my dad haul hay. That is very different than on the street.😸 she will obviously inherit the Bug when her daddy passes. He had it fully restored about ten years ago, it turns heads wherever we go. But people drive so carelessly …a couple of years ago woman, not paying attention, came within inches of hitting us at about forty mph! She was driving a Tahoe, it was terrifying.

  • @TheLindagdetroit

    Observation while watching him play with the tumbleweeds... he'd be sooooooooo easy to clicker train. He's the first horse I've seen who would likely work for a play reward, not just food reward.
    He reminds me soooooooo much of my Bengal cats. How he needs stuff to keep him mentally occupied or else he creates his own Skeletor games? Yeah, Bengals are the same way. If you don't keep Bengal brains puzzling over things, they WILL create Bengal games to the detriment of house furnishings & decor. 😂
    I can tell just from watching him that he would be very easy to shape behaviors, precisely because he's so active and in motion. He'd be able to chain different behaviors, no problem.
    Even if he does eventually get cleared for riding, he'd make an excellent addition to a horse therapy program... as long as someone knows how to channel his "go" into desired behaviors.
    I had one cat who used to practice his clicker behaviors on his own, lol. This particular one was an F3 Bengal, 3 generations away from wild. I had chained a whole series together to keep him busy, and the faster he did the sequence, the bigger the jackpot. That silly boy practiced on his own time & I had to keep adding behaviors to the chain.

    Skeletor might make a terrific trick horse! And I wonder about the idea of backing up motion....it helps build muscle in the hindquarters. Tim Anderson has a halter breed palomino QH mare in for training walking weird (real stiff and she was always pinning her ears when asked to move)in front end. Had magna therapy and found muscles so tight they were pinching nerves and is riding her so and targeting movement to help with those muscles. She is improving...with magna therapy and a ton of walking maneuvers!
    I like Skeletors personality and hope you can figure out how to help him!! He is still growing....

Walked him on a lead for the first year. But eventually he became healthy and trainable. I know it will be harder with this boy as he might not get to be a horse that can be ridden. But he's so bright, smart, curious and fun, with a little bit of the imp or devil in him. I hope he gets to a comfortable health, and that someone with a nice pasture would enjoy having him.

    lol @ Skelly in time out! You know the phrase "growing pains" is rooted in fact---learned this as a young mother years ago. Of course we forget by the time we're all grown up---but quickly growing bodies can ache for a bit in the joints and bones, can make a child cranky. Like teething pains. You've got a still growing youngster on your hands, in addition to his damage he arrived with and is still healing.

It’s even trickier that he has soundness issues that mean you can’t work him so he has something to think about other than hassling his neighbours and breaking rails. Putting him in with a horse who will school him a bit sounds like a great start.

It took most of the time I was home to feed and groom them, clean the boxes and keep up with the vacuuming (they tracked litter and dropped fur all over the house). I didn’t have much time to play with them or pet them. I now have five house cats and two barn cats. This is much more manageable for me. He has a great personality, and loves to instigate play with the other boys!! Sounds like you have some good ideas on what to do about his lameness issues. I'm so glad he ended up with you!! Keep these videos coming...can't wait till the next one!!

    A 'pasture pet' or 'companion horse' are great options for some rescued, rehabilitated horses who shouldn't be ridden. 😊 I love the names you have chosen like: Stewie, Skeletor, Studman, Nigel, etc. Skeletor must be very smart. He seems to crave mental stimulation.

    Always diagnosing, always fiddling with food, treatment, training, experiences. You sure don't have a "tiny brain". New sub working my way through your library old and new. BEYOND impressed. STUNNED! Fascinated by these large (and mini: Nigel!) animals AND by your interactions with them. Total, total STAN! Kudos!

    CC, you tried everything for this boy. We all love him and are so sad that he has transistioned. That must have been so painful a process and my heart hurts for you. Much love, Namaste'

    I would love to have a horse like Skeletor. I will never be able to ride but am absolutely in love with horses. I would spend countless hours hanging out with a horse.

    I recently found your channel. I love watching the horses and you show an honest view of what taking care of them is. I'm basically a city kid (hardly a kid anymore) and have only lived in big big cities, but I love animals and horses. I love watching Skeletor, he has so much personality. He's like a puppy! I love it. So naughty ... LOL.

    Thank you for our Skeletor fix!! I bet when you get home, your mind keeps trying to figure out what more you can do for your one of a kind, beautiful boy. He's so blessed that you picked him out , out of all the other horses at that auction. I hope this spring not only brings lots of grass but some answers for you and Skeletor. 🐎🤍🐎

    Skeletor would be a great candidate for a talking board and horse-appropriate puzzles. I know you don't have the time and money to devote to just one horse, though. At least he's safe, appreciated and being so well cared for!

    Thank you for your videos! I find it so enjoyable to watch and learn about Skeletor- )along with all the other fortunate rescues ) he such a particular character. They are all pretty special and it is interesting to learn about how you adjust their nutrition and the “ look fors” to help formulate their rehab plan. I don’t know about the other viewers but I always wish I could give you a helping hand- be one of your “ ranch hands”- rather do that than go to Disneyworld! Thanks again for the excellent equine ( and Tiny!) fix!❤😊
