I've used resin for awhile, I'm no expert but I watched a guy use water. After the first or second curing ,he placed the item in a small glass clear jar, covered with water and put it under the UV light/ lamp and cured it again 2 min turning over once, it set harder and stickiness went away. So as I'm no expert and sometimes had sticky resin after curing, i tried it, and it worked
I am so happy to have stumbled on to this video. I know it’s 3 years ago, but I have been pulling my hair out trying to resin my pieces. You video covered ALL my issues. I have ordered brushes and tacky putty. Thank you. I hope you are feeling better.
Smart little cookie making the posts for applying the resin to your projects. Mine are in the oven as I type... didn't want to use my expensive brushes, bought a couple of cheap brushes BUT had to pick out bristles as I applied the resin....what a wait of money!!!! Ordered nail brushes ages ago but I think they went for a walk about...😂 Thanks for the tutorial Kathryn 🙋♀️😍
Hi Kathryn, I've just retired and itchy to get crafting again. I really enjoy your videos. You can create jewelry in so many different ways that my eyes are agog learning from you! I'd like to start making jewelry with resin. You've recommended Qiao Qiao Diy resin, but now I'd like your advice on what type of UV light to buy. For example what wattage, various styles with their pros and cons and is a UV LED not recommended. Are UV LED lights just for nails- but not for resin jewelry? Thanks so much
I have been using this same uv resin. When I use alcohol to take off the sticky layer or clean, it loses all its shine and gore cloudy. I don't understand why.
Hi Kathryn! Thank you for doing such lovely videos. I'm curious what you do for ventilation with the UV resin. Is there anything special that you do to keep yourself safe?
I open a window and wear gloves if I'm using a lot, to be honest I only resin one or two pieces at a time, not a huge tray full as some folk do, I don't have an issue with any resin, I know some folk react badly to it though x
New subbie, I love your videos!! I always thought I would get brush strokes. Can't wait to try it. PLEASE do some of the faux stone tutorials!?! I love the cream colored one
thank you for this tutorial I like to use resin on my pieces but most of the Videos don't explain using the resin as completely as you do. I've learned so much. thank you.
I have found that just leaving it alone for 48-72 hours, the resin film will harden. In addition, if you feel like it has a film left on it, take it outside in the sunlight.
Hi, I’ve just discovered your channel and it is one of the best I’ve seen. I have a quick question. Have you had a problem with your up resin hardening in the bottle? Thanks
Hi Kathryn, loving your tutorials thank you for sharing 😊 I'm considering venturing into two part resin, is there any in particular you would recommend?
Hi Carol, I use Resin4Decor its a UK brand, Ive tried a few others but this gives me the best results, Maybe ask for recommendations in a Clay group if your not in the UK x
@@KathrynHalstead Oh my, thank you so much for showing the steps you use to resin a piece. I have looked and looked for a start to finish tutorial and yours just popped up as my settings were for continuous watching of your videos. Your little stands are a marvelous tip and I will be making me a few. You have saved me some frustration and waste of resin. Thanks many times. I am so enjoying your tutorials.
Hi Kathryn, if you use a nail lamp with a wattage high than 36 do you think that would cause the resin to be sticky? I use the same resin however my lamp has a higher wattage and it remains tacky after the 2 mins using your method
Hi sorry I can only suggest using a longer time maybe…. Is it uncured or just a slight tackiness? Try allowing it to cool and rinsing in warm soapy water maybe
Hey thank you for this tutorial. I have a doubt. When I cleaned up my uv resin because it was sticky with isopropyll alcohol it left it completely matte and dull looking. How do I clean that up or make my uv resin glossy looking again?
I think I may have bought the wrong UV Light .. I ordered a 140 watt UV light.. I havent used it yet on anything.. My wattage is 3 times stronger.. I hope it doesnt ruin everything :(
Sara It could be bubbles? Just try thin coats and that the surface is relatively flat before curing any divots in clay or first layers may be kinda amplified by subsequent layers so just take your time and don’t rush to cure it. Also don’t sit in the sun like I did today it cured before I’d even spread it around 🤣😂🤣
Hi Kathryn. I am a resin Novice. I've been experimenting this weekend. After some research, I decided against using the 2 part resin and purchased UV resin and a UV dryer. I too use a brush to apply my resin and I use just a little at a time but I find that it still spills over and the backside is sticking to my tray. If I use your elevated method will it eliminate the resin from getting on the bottom?
Hi Kathryn, thank you for this: I'm about to venture out into using resin. Does it matter what type of UV lamp you use, i.e. a nail one or something else? Thank you
I don't know how it is now in the UK or elsewhere, but shipments from AliExpress are taking up to three months to get delivered in the US. I have several items ordered the beginning of March that I'm still waiting for. Flights between China & the US are the issue....just a heads up.
Hey Jan, we dont seem to be having issues, well I dont ! my latest batch of findings only took 10 days? hopefully it will sort its self for you soon xx
@@KathrynHalstead Thank you, I hope so, I'm on Social Security and the prices of crafting supplies have gone up so dramatically in the past few months that I try to save money buying direct from China, instead of from domestic resellers, who in reality are themselves buying from China anyway and then jacking up the prices. Even on Amazon prices of everything from clay to acrylic paint to silk screens have gone up 50-100% since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Hey Rita, hope you’re well 😘
So, so, SO! Helpful. I have had very little success pooling it, so I’m excited to “practice” on some scrap clay.
Thanks so much for your tutorial, I’ve been having issues with resin. Looking forward to using your instruction 🤗
I guess it's kinda off topic but does anybody know a good place to stream new tv shows online ?
@Leon Taylor I watch on FlixZone. You can find it on google =)
Very useful and informative video. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for this tutorial! You have saved me a lot of frustration.
So glad I found your channel!! Very helpful tips and beautiful stones 😊
Thank you for the tips. Please do a tutorial on that BEAUTIFUL Amber piece.

Thank you !! Great tutorial!!! I’ve had some issues with UV resin( same kind you use) but I think this is going to help immensely 💕💕🧜♀️
Ohh glad I could help x
I am baking the little stands as I finish watching the video. Maybe I will actually finish some pieces. LOTS waiting to resin

Hi Sandra one very old bottle went crystallised but not solid? Maybe a dodgy batch if it’s new? Was it a specific brand ?
@@KathrynHalstead yeah, the same one you use. Tvwas sitting on my work table which is in front of a window. I think that that may have been the cause.

I have a doubt. When I cleaned up my uv resin because it was sticky with isopropyll alcohol it left it completely matte and dull looking.
How do I clean that up or make my uv resin glossy looking again?
That's the same issue I'm having. I'm wondering if it has something to do with humidity in the air. Ugh!
Sorry to hear your having issues, I’m not sure what to suggest, maybe another thin layer, or try a different brand, is your uv lamp 36 watts?
@@KathrynHalstead yes it is. I guess will try another layer.
Are you going to do a video on faux amber? I Love your Amber piece!💕. Thank you 🙏
I’ve done one using amber translucent polymer clay (faux tortoiseshell) I doubt I’ll do any “resin” vids but you never know 😂
Hi! Can you do a tutorial showing how you made that piece you’re holding at the 21:21 mark. Thank you!!
It’s faux amber with resin, I don’t have a resin video sorry
thank you for the tips, how to get rid of finger tips?
Just do your best not to touch it until full cured and cool, if I get a fingerprint I go over with another thin layer x
Question: Do you always use the two part resin to mold cabochons, or could you use the hard resin for cabochons?
i use both June x
Did you put the brush in the acetone in between coats or only at the end when you were completely finished?
i dampened it in acetone initially, and rinse in between ...clean at the end x
Does the smell go away after the resin is completely dry?
green dinosaurs hi I don’t really notice a strong smell with the UV resin x
I think I may have bought the wrong UV Light .. I ordered a 140 watt UV light.. I havent used it yet on anything.. My wattage is 3 times stronger.. I hope it doesnt ruin everything :(
Im sure it will be fine its the low watts that seem to have issues ... under 36w that is xx
so helpful!!
I keep getting divots in my UV resin as it cures! Any advice? It’ll look perfect! And as it cures they start to pop up! 😭

It's curing too fast. Try curing for 15 sec, let it rest, cure, rest, cure

Hi Leslie…. Yes applications with a brush are much more manageable….. using a stand helps you to catch any stray drips too. Give it a go x
Just bril!!!
Thanks!
Do u use thick or thin resin?
sorry Irene i dont know how i missed your comment, its kinda thick this one, I tried a runny one once ... it went in the bin ha ha ha
Hi Kathryn, thank you for this: I'm about to venture out into using resin. Does it matter what type of UV lamp you use, i.e. a nail one or something else? Thank you
Hi Anna. I’d recommend a 36w machine like the type i show at the end of video. The smaller ones just don’t set it. Mines just a nail one x
@@KathrynHalstead Thank you that's so kind of you
